All you could think about is ‘Run as fast as you can’.

You ran through the screaming crowd, trying to reach the one you love with all your heart. Atsushi and you have been assigned with a mission, it wasn’t a difficult mission at all, but someone had did their research on the agency and their members, and all it took was a little bit of information about Atsushi’s past to get him out of control.

He had fully turned into the were tiger without ever meaning to do so

“ATSUSHI!” You screamed for him, as you used your combat skills to get onto objects like trash cans, bus stations or even cars. You needed to calm him down before anything would happen to him.

You jumped over the cars, seeing him in the distance as you received a call from none other than kunikida.

“Y/N WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING OVER THERE?” You heard him scream, as you realised this is all being broadcasted, looking up as you saw the news helicopter fly above the two of you. ‘Shit.’ You muttered, as you speed up.

“Someone got sensitive information kunikida, He went out of control and almost killed the guy have they not gotten away since I stopped Atsushi.” You explained, your legs aching while you still speed up after Atsushi, hearing more screaming people of fright.

“SECURE THE AREA FOR ME OKAY THANKS BYE-“ You rushed the call before you heard kunikida scream on the other side.

You ran as fast as your legs could, as your eyes widen, seeing Atsushi about to attack. “ATSUSHI!” You screamed as you came in between the innocent people and the tiger that was about to attack. He couldn’t stop on time, as his claw made contact with your arms, giving it a nasty scratch mark.

You screamed out in pain and held onto your arm, whimpering slightly as you saw the blood and clothes being ripped off your body.

That’s definitely going to leave a nasty scar.

“Run!” You screamed at the innocent people, as they quickly scrammed, leaving you alone with a clearly distressed tiger. “Its okay baby its okay..” You whispered softly, holding your other hand out, treating him like a cat. “Its just me, your safe Atsushi..But you have to get control again.” You put a step forward, as him bumped his nose against your hand, smelling in the scent and his pupils dilated to a normal size again, as you heard whimpers come out of his mouth.

You slowly pet him with your good hand, as you squad down.

“We have to get out of here, can I ride your back?” You asked him as he nodded gently. You hopped onto his back, leaned forward and whispered, ‘Make sure to lose the helicopter first dear”

As you guys moved like the speed of light, going directly towards the Agency.

They immediately stood their ground, as Dazai and Kunikida came to your rescue. You were bleeding quite a lot on the floor as your vision began to blur because of the amount of blood you had lost by the wound that needed treatment this instant.

You heard screaming, Dazai nullifying Atsushi’s ability, Seeing the doctors coat of Yosano flash in front of you, as you slowly fade away out of consciousness.

As everything around you became black pool of darkness.

You woke up, slightly feeling your arm being sore, as you slowly opened your eyes to adjust at the light of the room. You groaned softly, as you felt a weight at the side of your bed. You looked down, seeing a sleeping Atsushi with red puffy eyes, sleep by your side.

A sharp pain in your side snapped you back in reality, as you realised you also had been bandaged by the side of your body. 

“Your lucky it wasn’t something that touched our organs.” A sudden voice spoke as you were eye to eye with Yosano herself. “A shot like that could’ve been nasty if you weren’t here on time.” She stated, something that you nodded your head in agreement on. “He’s been worried about you, He basically cried like a small baby when I told him your state and that you were okay.” Yosano chuckled as you smiled gently, stroking his hair with the hand attached to the bandaged arm.

You heard him groan slightly, as yosano took that as a cue to get out of the room.

He slowly woke up, as you smiled softly at him, your hand on his cheek as you whispered softly. “Hi baby..” You let out a small smile as he started to cry again, His arms and body flopping on top of him. 

“Y/N!!” He sobbed, as you groaned slightly but rubbed his back and kissed his cheek gently. “Right here dear..right here..” You smiled gently, as you cupped his face, making him look at you. “Oh Y/n Im so sorry I shouldn’t have lost control and that was just- he just-“ He stuttered, trying to get his words in the right context.

You kissed him gently, immediately shutting him up. “Its okay its okay trust me it is okay-“ You stated, as he still kept crying. You hugged him close, as you guys slowly calmed down together.

“We’ll train some more sushi, you need the emotions and those powers of yours under control.” You teased him as he kept crying.

“Okay- I love you”

“I love you too”

Atsushi always gets concerned about your health and safety he just wants you to be alright and comfortable.

He noticed you bite your nails a lot and he knows it's not good to do that so he always tries to stop you from doing it but you actually never stop.

You hate to make people worry about you so you don't tell him much about how you're doing mentally. That just makes him more worried.

He really just wants you to be alright.. but you don't understand that.

He wants to get you a therapist. Although you may not be comfortable with that so he just doesn't.

He told kunikida about this, and kunikida requested that he would talk to you about it but atsushi just said that he will just find a way to deal with it because atsushi feels that would be a bit weird for you.

This is genuinely why there's no BSD character I 100% dislike. Everyone in BSD is portrayed in such a human way (even Fyodor and Nikolai). Personally, for me, it's what makes BSD very beautiful, in all the ugliness shown in the story and relationships. I find in some media that there's a narrative for certain characters being 'good' and some 'bad.' I'm not saying BSD has no protagonists or antagonists, I'm saying that BSD doesn't shy away from showing the character strengths and flaws of either. There isn't that much of a narrative going, 'Oh, you should like this character and dislike this one.' Tying back to OP, one amazing way BSD does this is how it portrays abuse.

Hi by the way I'm never going to not throw up when thinking about what BSD says about abusers and victims. Abuse can occur out of love or a desire to protect or save or help someone and it's still abuse. Abuse can occur and years later you will still feel the affects so deeply it's as if it's a part of your body. Your abuser can change and regret and sometimes that means you will walk away over and over and sometimes it means you will throw yourself at them over and over and both are because you never developed a sense of self beyond what they made you to be. Your abuser will die and you will cry and you will hate him and in your weakest moments his memory will be there. Your abuser will live and become a better person and you're still stuck there unable to move on. The sheer complexity of what it allows and asks of us - to understand that at the end of the day we're all people fucking each other up and making mistakes. No one is a monster and wouldn't it just be easier if we were?

I have seen so many people misconstrue this part of Atsushi’s journey and not quite grasp this scene for what it really is. It’s great to see someone break it down a bit.

i want to talk about the moment that both made me fall in love with atsushi nakajima as a character, and which made me realize that I was probably going to get obsessed with BSD.

specifically, it was this moment.

words can not describe how important this moment was to me, and how vital this is to both atsushi as a character and his relationship with dazai as a whole.

as someone who is currently living with my abusive parents, this was something that resonated with me a lot — oftentimes, media when attempting to portray abuse (specifically parental abuse) and victims of abuse, does 1 out of 2 things:

1. Tries to justify the abuse and protect the parents — having the kids be okay with the treatment they recieved.

2. Has the kids utterly despise their parents with no shred of good feelings.

And whilst, sure, both of these can happen — and I'm sure there are victims who actually feel like this — it's not the most common response.

Speaking from my own experience — I don't know how to feel about my parents. If they died, I wouldn't know what face to make. I hate them more than anyone else, but at the same time, I grew up with them. I hate them, but I also love them. If they died, I don't know how I'd feel about it. And we get to see Atsushi having that exact breakdown — the elation over the person you hate dying, versus the grief and frustration and confusion. Abuse isn't simple, and feelings aren't simply — your abuser dying isn't something that's clean cut, it comes with a million different conflicting confusing emotions.

And the fact that Atsushi is allowed to have these feelings, is allowed to hate the headmaster, is allowed to grieve without forgiveness, is so important. BSD doesn't try to justify his abuse — it's okay to mourn someone that hurt you even if you don't like them. Their death — or their intentions — don't make forgiveness a necessity.

And even moreso, the fact that he gets explicitly told that regardless of the fact that that abuse was what molded him into the person he is today and has helped him survive, and the fact that the headmaster had good intentions, it was bad and unforgivable, is extremely important.

dazai not forcing atsushi to feel a certain way about his abuser, and encouraging him to mourn without forgiveness and to actually feel, is an incredibly important moment — i doubt that i'm only speaking for myself here when i say that when dealing with these subject matters, these are the types of things we'd like to hear.

the fact that dazai is the character telling atsushi this isn't lost on me, either — considering that earlier on this chapter, he sent ryuunosuke to tell atsushi about the headmaster, and they had this interaction:

everything about this is so fascinating and well written — from atsushi having an extremely realistic breakdown over the death of his abuser, to dazai telling him that he has zero obligation for forgiveness — and the implications that he's aware that what he's done to ryuunosuke is wrong regardless of intentions, is fascinating.

to me, atsushi nakajima has always felt human in a way most protagonists don't — his trauma impacts him, he has complex messy feelings that can't be easily resolved. it's his choice what to do with his emotions, and all others can do is give advice, and let him figure out how to deal with them.

atsushi nakajima crying over the man who simultaneously raised him and made his life a living hell is accurate in a way that almost hurts.

(slightly unrelated, but i sure was accurate with this prediction from a month ago, huh!)

Atsushi and Akutagawa for the Soul Eater AU!!!

In this pair, Atsushi is the Meister and Akutagawa is the weapon. In PM Academy, Akutagawa primarily fights solo, materializing blades from his body. Atsushi on the other hand is a versatile Meister who wields several of the weapons in the agency. The most common ones are Dazai, Junichiro, and sometimes Kenji. I haven’t decided if Kyouka is a Meister or a weapon, but if she’s a weapon she’d likely team up with Atsushi a lot because she’d trust him not to use her for evil.

These two both dislike how Dazai paired them together, but they’re a strong team once they get past their fighting and actually work together. Maybe they’re like the second coming of Double Black?

FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT IT ISN'T HATE

I absolutely love the sskk (fic) dynamic where Akutagawa loves Atsushi yet he doesn't tell him due to fear

He holds in his feelings because of fear of rejection, fear of Atsushi hating him for loving him and losing Atsushi. Fear of losing the only person bathed in light in his life. Fear of losing his equal because of three words

I just think it's a beautifully tragic take on their romantic relationship, where Akutagawa loves Atsushi but he can't say it because what if Atsushi doesn't requite his feelings? Considering fanfiction though, Atsushi 100% loves him back, but yk

Akutagawa has experienced more loss in his life than anyone should, and the inner monologue of him being so scared to lose Atsushi or disgust Atsushi with his real feelings would make a great oneshot/fic

Seeing Akutagawa deal with alienating feelings like love for Atsushi is always so interesting to me

Atsushi saw Akutagawa's past. He learned about Akutagawa's trauma. He knows how Akutagawa was treated, how he was taught, what he was put through.

He understands Akutagawa now

He fully sees Akutagawa for his humanity now

Atsushi has seen Akutagawa's darkest, most vulnerable side now

And that's just so...

I can't even put it into words oh my God, their relationship is so complex and heartfelt I'm screaming

I have a feeling that Akutagawa doesn't mind Atsushi seeing his past, seeing him at weakest, lowest point

I think their trust runs deeper than that

Also Akutagawa isn't alone anymore. Nor is Atsushi, because they have each other. Akutagawa has someone who knows and tells him he isn't weak, Atsushi has someone who can be by his side and save him. I feel like without each other they aren't complete

I really like how you talk about sskk, do you have any reviews about them?

It's super obvious that I love Sskk, and it's true, I do, I'm completely enamored by the ship and I love their relationship dynamic so much (I love Bsd for a plethora of reasons, such as the individual characters, plot, abilities, depictions of mental health, etc, not just sskk ofc, but sskk has always been something that's interested me a lot and it's my favorite ship) so I'd love to give some reviews!

I won't be able to name every reason or review on this ship lol I just have too many, but I'll try to list some of my favorites

I don't ship Akutagawa nor Atsushi with anyone else besides each other, because to me they're soulmates. I adore their symbolism of the yin and yang, Akutagawa being the yin (evil with a bit of good) and Atsushi being the yang (good with a bit of evil). I think they have a very unique duo concept while still fitting as the next generation of Double Black/Soukoku

Also I'll never get over how much they actually like and respect each other. They might bicker and argue, but they've only fought like, twice. The first time was their first meeting and they fought because they weren't personal enemies, they were organization rivals. Then the second time was Atsushi desperately trying to save Kyouka, and people seem to forget that in the beginning Atsushi didn't know his own strength. Until he became an Agency member he wasn't able to control his ability, and he couldn't even remember transforming

A *huge* thing for a view on Sskk's relationship is circumstance. In the main series of Bsd, Atsushi is told to stay away from Akutagawa because he's a Port Mafia member. He isn't told about Akutagawa's personality or who he is as a person, because why would he? He's simply the enemy (at that point in time). Basically, the whole reason they were so adverse to each other was because the only information they were given about each other was to hate each other

Akutagawa never truly hated Atsushi for who he *was*. He was told to dislike Atsushi, along with every single other Agency member. Akutagawa has said he doesn't hate Atsushi twice, once in the manga where he said "I only hated you for your good fortune," as he was jealous of Atsushi and how Dazai treated Atsushi. The second time was in the 55 Minutes light novel

I kinda rambled a lot, but all in all, Atsushi and Akutagawa have never *personally* hated each other. It's all circumstance. Look at BEAST, when Akutagawa and Atsushi meet, they meet at a cafe and have no idea who the other actually is. They get along easily and enjoy each other's company, relating to each other and talking comfortably. It just goes to show that they might clash but in the end, they go so well together and support each other

So that's my review on how they actually don't hate each other lol

I think Akutagawa does respect Atsushi, and vice versa. I think their relationship is something similar to "I wish you never came into my life, because now I can't live without you,"

It's fairly obvious that Atsushi mourned Akutagawa and replayed his death many times in his head after Akutagawa died at Fukuchi's hand. Atsushi might call Akutagawa annoying but he missed him, and even was able to quote Akutagawa's last words back at Akutagawa before dying for him. Atsushi even canonly feels safe around Akutagawa, because he trusts Akutagawa. He trusts Akutagawa won't try to (seriously) hurt him nor kill him (at least until the six months are up)

(actually, regarding that for a second, I highly doubt the promise will actually go through. Or at least they'll pretend to want to fight, and then one of them is going to fold and admit that they don't want to do the death match. They would [and did] literally both die for each other, they're not killing each other any time soon)

Anyways

Their trust runs deep, even if its unspoken. Akutagawa is basically completely vulnerable without his coat/Rashomon, yet he gives it to Atsushi because he *trusts* Atsushi to use Kokko Zessou (the Singularity of their abilities) properly

Also in Wan!, which is to some extent canon btw it's confirmed to just be an alternate chibi universe, Atsushi stalked Akutagawa for a bit to see if he truly wasn't killing anything and then proceeded to comically see Akutagawa not even kill a mosquito. So after he sees that Akutagawa is true to his word he buys some pork buns for Akutagawa and gives them to him as a gift. Akutagawa splits open the bag with Rashomon and takes the food and I just found it really sweet that Akutagawa took the food that Atsushi bought for him. I know it's just Wan! and it's all silly, but idk it warms my heart that he didn't just throw out the food that Atsushi got for him 😭 (btw this is Wan! episode 4/chapter 66) (and even if I'm wrong about Wan!'s canonical credibility, this is still one of my favorite sskk moments and I don't really take it that seriously lol)

Also, Akutagawa has stated that his reason to live is to get Dazai's validation, to have Dazai admit that he is indeed strong and worthy (in BEAST his reason for living was to find Gin). Akutagawa even says he doesn't fear death, but he fears dying before proving himself to Dazai. The thing is, I think Atsushi could become his new reason to live (I know how cheesy this sounds 🙏). Atsushi 100% recognizes Akutagawa as strong and capable, and I just really think that protecting Atsushi and fighting alongside him could be Akutagawa's new reason to live (or at least, *a* reason)

Also another point of how much Akutagawa trusts Atsushi (whether or not he wants to admit it) is that he told Atsushi about his lung condition. Akutagawa is obsessed with power because of how Dazai trained (abused) him. He wants and needs status and to be feared, Atsushi even calls him out for "killing just to look powerful". Why would he keep his lung condition a secret? Because sickness is *weakness.* He despises being seen as weak or defenseless, but with Atsushi? He knows Atsushi won't ever think he's weak. So he tells Atsushi (and inadvertently Fukuchi) about his lung disease, trusting Atsushi with the information

Okay so these are (some) of my reviews on their canon relationship and why I think they're so perfect for each other, and ofc I had more reasons and opinions about sskk (I swear I'm normal about them 😭), it's practically an endless list

Also I love every single depiction I've seen of domestic/no abilities au sskk. I know their relationship isn't necessarily soft, but it could be. The look Atsushi gave Akutagawa before turning into bubbles was very soft.

As a romantic couple, they would be wonderful for each other. They're literally the perfect balance, and I think it would be a healthy and loving relationship just with some (weightless) arguing. That's just their personalities lol

And I think no matter what universe they're in, they're still going to be connected to each other. In BEAST when Atsushi enters the cafe, Akutagawa takes immediate note of him although he looks comparatively normal. Akutagawa senses his strength and notices him. I think even if in a world where they've never met, if Atsushi walked past Akutagawa one day,Akutagawa would turn around to look at him, and vice versa. They're very intertwined and I adore that part of their relationship

Oh, and I'm not saying it's odd or specifically special that Atsushi cares about Akutagawa, after all he's kind and cares about many people like Kyouka, Dazai, Kunikida, Ranpo, etc. But Atsushi has *extreme* trust issues so the fact that he trusts Akutagawa along with caring about him really shows how different their relationship is. Also it goes to show that Atsushi doesn't view the world as black and white, and doesn't only like the "good guys" and hates the "bad guys". Atsushi cares about Akutagawa despite all of Akutagawa's sins and debatable flaws, because he *likes* Akutagawa. And Akutagawa caring about anyone ever is pretty unusual lol. Atsushi, Gin, and his friends from the slums who died might be the only people he actually gives a damn about (he hates Dazai)

Also I do think they have the potential to become canon, it's unlikely due to a bunch of different reasons (such as Bsd isn't a romance manga/anime), but if it did become canon, it would just make a lot of sense. Seeing them navigate their relationship together while also dealing with Fyodor, Amenogozen, The Book, etc and their own internal struggles would be extremely interesting. I just know Asagiri would write it wonderfully
