“to be a witch” falsehoods

there are a lot of misconceptions going around lately on what someone needs to be a witch, i just want to clear some up.

“to Be A Witch” Falsehoods

you do not need:

fancy tools - or any tools at all, really. all you need is yourself and your intent. sure, tools that fit your aesthetic are nice, but you don’t need them. if you have the ability to buy and you want to, there’s no stopping you, but please don’t feel like you have to go out and buy yourself an etsy broom or a cauldron. and don’t stress yourself out over making one either! they are but trappings.

appearance - in witchy aesthetic photos, it’s usually a slim, white girl with long hair. and that lack of a more diverse representation can give the impression that you need to look and be a certain way, but please know it is untrue. it does not matter what your race, weight, hair, or anything looks like.

aesthetic - you don’t need to dress “like a witch”. a witch can look like anything. if you want to indulge in the black cat, black clothes look, fine, but you don’t need to confine yourself to it if it’s not your thing, you can look like whatever you want to.

gender - there are some in the community that will fight tooth and nail to make it seem you have to be a cis female to call yourself a witch. don’t listen to those terfs. anyone can be a witch, regardless of gender. male, non-binary, agender, trans, demi, etc.

black cat - you don’t need a black cat. you don’t need to have a familiar either. those are unique relations that should not be forced to happen

dark, mystical attitude - you don’t need to suddenly start talking like chaucer or put effort into having an air of mystery. you don’t need to be holier than thou, or act like you know it all. witchcraft is a journey that takes time to learn.

cursing - no, you don’t need to curse. but you don’t need to shame someone for cursing either.

on a spiritual path - witchcraft does not have to be spiritual! you can practice magic without having to worry about being “spiritual enough”, because each craft is unique and deeply personal, you don’t need to force it to be something that you’re not invested in.

religious -  there are many witches that wonder where the power comes from if they don’t call upon a god. the power can come from you. you do not need to devote yourself to a god

wiccan - wicca is not the only way to do witchcraft, it is only one way of practicing magic. there are many people who think the only way to do witchcraft is to be wiccan, but they are misinformed. if you do not want to work with wiccan influences or traditions, you do not have to.

initiated - some practices, some traditions, initiation is needed. however, to be a witch in general, you don’t need to go through any ritual to prove yourself one. be wary of those who insist you do, they are often trying to take advantage of new witches.

straight/cis - some traditions you’ll encounter have homophobic roots/influences. while it is discouraging, you dont have to listen to those, or you can work with others to rework phobic traditions

a “natural” witch -  some people will claim to have “witch’s blood” or “the flame”, meaning witchcraft has been in their families for generations. this does not make them superior or more of a witch than you. anyone who wants to be a witch can, no matter their birth circumstances.

labelled - a lot of witches label their craft, “herb witch”, “space witch”, “storm witch” etc. you can be as many as you want, or none if it pleases you. you do not need to label your craft however. some people can’t put their craft in a box.

td;lr, you do need:

to want to be a witch

your intent

that’s it! happy casting!

So my petty ex, who I left for being a rapist and sexually assaulting me in my sleep, is pathetically spreading dumbass little rumors about me on world of Warcraft of all things. I’m a bit annoyed, but it isn’t like it’s hard to change servers so I guess that’s what I’ll be working on tomorrow. I don’t even want to be bothered by it but I guess I can’t even do pet battles in peace on my server now. Sucks that I have too many characters to transfer so I’ll only take one and start from the beginning, but still. I think I have the right to be irritated. It is amazing how people who are abusers act like they are the ones who are hurt when you finally leave after being abused for two years. Oh, and when I did finally leave and did finally get all my things, I found in with my clothes the clothes of the girl he was cheating on me with before covid. Can’t be happier to have cut these ties.

Lavender in Witchcraft

Lavender In Witchcraft

Gender: Feminine (Though this is disputed)

Element: Water and Air

Planets: Neptune and Mercury

Signs: Virgo and Pisces

Deities: Selene

Chakra: Third eye

Represents: Longevity and long life, peace, harmony, love attraction and romance, healing, sleep and dreams, the third eye and psychic abilities, as well as purification and spirit healing.

Some uses for lavender:

- Wear the oil, perfume or essence of lavender as a way to attract men, women -or whatever you are into- towards you. Men especially are attracted towards lavender; prostitutes were  known to wear lavender in ancient times to draw in clients.

- Drink a tea of lavender before doing any mental or psychic work; it is said to increase both mental and psychic abilities.

- Burn it or scatter it around your house to ward off evil spirits; as well as cleanse and raise the vibes.

- Scatter a mixture of lavender and rosemary across your doorway to keep unwanted guests * and that really irritating postman*

-Carry some on or around you (ex: keep a sprig in your purse or pocket, wear some oil of it on yourself, throw some in your sock drawer, etc.) for a longevity in your life.

- Add some into your skincare to bring a youthful glow and essence to your skin and body.

Got any more ideas? Let me know!!!

Take care and goddess bless )O(

Witchcraft 102 Masterpost

So. You’ve covered the basics. You know what every kind of ritual tool does, you understand all the terms that seemed alien to you before and you think you’re finally starting to get a feel for this witchcraft thing. You’re not a baby witch anymore, but… where to from here? Making the move from beginner witch to intermediate witch is a lot more difficult than it seems, purely because resources aimed at intermediate witchcraft are few and far between. But there’s a good reason for that.

Witchcraft 102 Masterpost

There are general rules and ideas that can be applied across all of witchcraft. There’s so much to learn from other witches, but your greatest teacher will always be yourself. There is a reason witchcraft is so customisable to the individual: some things just work better for certain people. Not to mention pretty much every magick practice in history was developed by witches using their intuition! Because of this, it’s hard to create resources that tell somehow how to go from a beginner to an intermediate. However, they do exist! You’ll just find that most of them will act as prompts or scaffolds. They’ll instruct you on how to figure things out for yourself.

This next stage of your craft will involve a lot of introspection, and a lot of trusting your gut. It’s the reason you learnt all that baby witch stuff in the first place. This is where most of the personal growth happens. It can be scary, but it’ll also be magical. It’ll be a while before you actually qualify as an ‘intermediate witch’, and there’s no shame in that. The process of moving from beginner to intermediate is one that can take years, simply because witchcraft is such a deep and complex art. I myself definitely wouldn’t identify as a baby witch, but I’m still a beginner in many aspects despite having been a witch for years.

Without further ado, I present to you witchcraft 102.

ORGANISATION

When reading through information, I recommend taking notes on the content, as well as your thoughts on it. Do you notice any connections to other texts or ideas? Do you have any questions you’d like to follow up? This will not only help you remember the information, but encourage you to look at it critically and see the bigger picture. Here is an example of my personal note-taking scaffold which includes some of the notes I took a while ago. I adapted it from the Cornell notes system based on my personal needs.

At TechnoCoven, a recent online witchcraft convention, there was an hour-long panel about planning in witchcraft called Spirit Papers. Here is a link to the recording. It goes over different organisation systems, notebooks, etc.

Why you should cite sources

How to cite sources

What is an annotated bibliography?

I would highly recommend setting aside a specific time every day to study witchcraft. This way, you will be improving your craft every day. Even if you only set aside half an hour, you will be doing three and a half hours of study a week. An hour a day totals to seven hours a week. If you can’t find a specific time every day, then find a specific time every week. 6pm-8pm on Tuesday and Saturday, for example, or reserve all of Sunday afternoon. This structure obviously isn’t compulsory, but with it you will advance at a much quicker pace and probably find your craft more fulfilling.

You should definitely have a grimoire already, but if you don’t, get one. It can be on paper or online, if you’d prefer. OneNote, Evernote, Microsoft Word and Google Docs are all viable digital options. You probably have lots of loose information lying around, whether its physical, in note form or on your Tumblr blog. Categorise it and order it. Then go through it. Document the important and useful parts in your grimoire.

ASTRO OBSERVATIONS

If you want to repost this on your Instagram, please tag the creator: @sacerdotess4 on IG

ASTRO OBSERVATIONS

🔹 I’ve noticed that people with Moon and rising signs as sister signs (example: Aries rising with Libra Moon) tend to be extremely difficult to understand, they’re not naturally good with expressing their feelings and intentions, people tend to misunderstand them. It’s not natural for strangers to trust them, they always seem like they’re hiding something or like they’re not truly authentic.

🔹 I admire Cancer Moon so much, their intuition is so accurate!

🔹 People with Scorpio Moon tend to feel intense negative emotions and to be stuck on them, they should be very careful with their mental health.

🔹 People with Leo Moon have a sensitive ego, I’ve noticed that they tend to hold grudges a lot, especially with Earth placements or other fixed signs in their chart.

🔹 I’ve noticed that Virgo, Leo and Scorpio placements tend to be vindictive.

🔹 People with Venus opposite Uranus, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto tend to have an unstable sense of self worth.

🔹 People with Venus in good aspect with Pluto tend to be lucky with money.

🔹 Gemini placements are not double faced, they’re just insecure, they care a lot about other people and want to impress them in a positive way imitating them.

🔹 People with Libra rising tend to be people pleasers and tend to attract many aggressive partners, they need to be careful and work on their boundaries.

🔹 We perceive ourselves as our Mercury sign, Mercury rules the mind (self talk as well) we tend to associate ourself to our self talk and with what’s on our mind.

🔹 Capricorn placements tend to over complicates simple situations.

🔹 Taurus placements tend to search for the simplest and easiest solution with everything in life.

🔹 This is so weird, I’ve never known an Aquarius Sun proud of being different. The Sun is related with the ego (self esteem as well), Aquarius is in detriment here, maybe that’s why Aquarius Suns tend to feel insecure and try to emulate others at all costs.

🔹 In general I’ve noticed that people with an Air Sun have the tendency of being insecure of themselves.

🔹 People with Sun or Venus in the 6th house tend to have a low self esteem, working on gaining confidence is always a priority for them.

🔹 Vegans tends to have planets in their 6th and 11th house.

Tea recipes for a glow up

So my tea business kind went down the drain because to legally sell tea in my state I need to mix them in a commercial kitchen. So I added the price of rent for a kitchen and the price of my herbs and it’s just not profitable. People aren’t willing to spend a million dollars on tea and that’s what I’d have to sell it for. So I’m releasing my recipes for free and you can buy the ingredients and make at home!

Rich Bitch Tea

This tropical tea has herbs that in folklore bring abundance and money. Plus it has caffeine to help to grind.

Coconut oolong tea

Dried pineapple

All spice

Moody Moon PMS

This tea is contraceptive safe unlike most!

Peony

Ashwagandha

Gymnema

Cinnamon

Point Blank Period

A period tea that is contraceptive safe! Only have up to 3 times a day

Cinnamon

Yarrow

Skinny legend

This tea will help with weight loss but you have to put in the work. It helps with cravings and in human trials was proven to be more than a placebo. I don’t want you guys abusing this though so only once a day okay!

Gymnema

Yerba mate

Fenugreek

Aphrodite Aphrodisiac

If there’s one thing I’m good at it’s attraction spells! So this tea will attract romantic love into your life

Rose

Cornflower

Nutmeg

Clove

Dried strawberries

Cinnamon

Dried cherries

Morning bloat tea

Peppermint

Fennel

Ginger

Lemon peels

I hope you guys get use out of them. I wish I could sell them to you but the FDA is just doing it’s job 🤷‍♀️

Instructions for a walk in the woods

Never turn around to check behind you. You’ll see nothing, but once you start doing it you won’t be able to stop, and an ominous feeling will follow you until you don’t lock your house’s door behind you.

If you stand very still and listen you will hear the woods calling for you. Don’t answer. Never answer.

You’ll hear things quietly following you, hidden in the trees by your sides. It’s okay, they’re just checking on you.

Don’t be scared, but be really, really wary.

If you have a bad feeling about taking a certain path, don’t. You’ll avoid whatever is waiting for you at the end of it.

You never know what may be buried under the soil you’re walking on. Remember that every time you take a step. Pray that whatever it is, it won’t wake up.

Be careful not to step on any beetle, or you’ll never get rid of them.

If you bring a knife with you, name it. Otherwise the blade will turn against you as soon as you try to use it.

Make sure you remember the way back home. As soon as you get lost, you’re just another piece of fresh meat.

I think it’s really important that we talk about a very pertinent and relevant topic:

How to spot fake crystals!

“Fake” in reference to crystals can mean many different things depending on who you ask, but we’ll cover all of them. Dyed stones, heat treated, glass, man made, mislabeled/marketed, etc.

As the crystal community grows, so do the counterfeit dealers! One of the fakes I see most often are the small little bullet shaped points made into pendants, with very over exaggerated color and patterns, that are being sold at extremely low prices and readily available at places like Walmart, Five Below, and Amazon. These are either made from resin/plastic or dyed glass, and possess absolutely no metaphysical properties or vibrational energy.

I Think It’s Really Important That We Talk About A Very Pertinent And Relevant Topic:

Another way to spot a fake is if the price is just too good to be true. While I am able to offer stones (IG @petriquartz) at a lower price than most retail metaphysical stores, it’s usually just because those places are OVER charging for their product. While you don’t want to overpay, you also don’t want to underpay, as that is an indication that the stone you are purchasing is not genuine.

If a stone is one with a natural pattern, we want to be sure that the pattern is not completely uniform or symmetrical. A patterned stone that is often faked, as it is on the rarer and pricier side, is malachite. A good way to tell if your malachite is genuine is to see if the stripes on your stone are dark green or black. Black stripes that are very uniform are a tell-tale sign that what you have is a fake.

I Think It’s Really Important That We Talk About A Very Pertinent And Relevant Topic:

Now what about heat treated stones??? The vast majority of the time, heat treated amethyst is marketed and sold as citrine. While this isn’t really false, it is a little deceptive. Amethyst and citrine are both varieties of quartz. The only difference is the oxidized state of the iron impurities within the mineral. Naturally occurring citrine is quite rare, which is the result of natural heat and pressure applied to amethyst over a very long period of time. We are able to simulate that effect by heat treating pieces of amethyst in order to speed up the process.

I Think It’s Really Important That We Talk About A Very Pertinent And Relevant Topic:

Finally, let’s talk about man made stones. Some of the most popular man made crystals include opalite, goldstone, and blue sandstone. Some people debate whether or not these man made stones still possess any sort of metaphysical properties while not coming directly from the earth. Whether you use them in your own practice or just have them as display pieces in your house is totally up to you! Do what feels right, and if you feel called to them, there is nothing wrong with using them!

I Think It’s Really Important That We Talk About A Very Pertinent And Relevant Topic:

I hope that this can offer some insight to anyone just getting starting, or some guidance for anyone looking to purchase crystals! For genuine, ethically sourced stones, be sure to check out Petriquartz on all platforms.
