Witchcraft for the Home : Cleaning Edition

Witchcraft For The Home : Cleaning Edition

So for me cleaning in and of itself is a ritual. Cleaning my home is how I destress and organize my life, and how I help good energy flow into my home. For me clean counters are as important to my craft as Sage. So hear are a small list of things I do when cleansing my home.

🌱First things first. Open the GD windows. You have no idea how awful the stale air in your home is until you let some fresh air in. Especially if you live in a small apartment like I do. You’d be amazed how quickly that alone can lift the bad energy in your home. 🌱I wipe down my counters and such with those little wet wipe cleaning things. When I buy them I add a tiny drop of Frankincense essential oil and orange blossom essential oil to them and shake them up (I buy the none scented ones so that it doesn’t get all weird smelling)  🌱Same goes for floor cleaner. Add a small drop of whatever cleansing oil you like to clean your laminate or tiles floors. DO NOT ADD ANYTHING WHEN CLEANING REAL HARD WOOD. If you have real hard wood floors adding oils to your hard wood floor cleaner can mess with the ph and screw up your floors 🌱Put some moon water in your oil diffuser while you’re cleaning to help balance out the energy in your house 🌱Sprinkle some salt in the carpet right before you vacuum it up to pull up those bad vibes as well as the gross stuff in your carpets.  🌱Tidy up your altar. I don’t know about you but for me I could have a perfectly clean room and if my altar is a little cluttered then the room doesn’t feel clean. Making sure my tools are put away and my offering dish is clean is important.  🌱When sweeping, sweep the dust out the front door if you can. (Don’t sweep like, trash or anything out). 🌱Once everything is clean and fresh light some incense. I normally choose clove or vanilla to make my apartment feel cozy

a spell to make a home cozier

A Spell To Make A Home Cozier

here is a little ritual you can do to bring warmth, joy and harmony to a home to make it feel cozier and more welcoming. best done during a full moon, but you can do it any time. you will need:

☾ a small bowl of ceramic, wood or glass

☾ a clove of garlic (bringing warmth + togetherness to a home)

☾ a sprinkle of lavender flowers (tranquility and calm)

☾ a sprig of pine (home blessing, cleansing, grounding)

☾ a brown candle (home and hearth magick)

sit in the main area of your home. light your brown candle; sit comfortably on the floor or couch and meditate on the candle for a while. warm your hands with its flame.

set the offering bowl in front of the candle. take the garlic clove in your hands and visualize the way you want your home to feel: warm, lived-in and welcoming. warm the clove over the candle-flame briefly and set it in the bowl.

take your lavender flowers in your hands. close your eyes, take a deep breath and inhale the scent of them. let it calm you, as it will calm the energy of your home. place the flowers atop the garlic.

lastly, take the sprig of pine. use it like a wand; point it toward all four corners of the room you’re in. place it against your heart, and set it in the bowl.

whisper to the bowl: “may your magick bless this home with kindness and warmth.” blow out the candle; place the bowl on a windowsill, mantle, or coffee table for three nights. on the third night, sprinkle its contents outside your front door.

Tasseomancy: Symbols

Tasseomancy or Tasseography is the practice and process of using tea leaves or coffee grounds to forecast, understand, or improve upcoming or current events. This can be used for planning ahead, or for personal growth, healing and development. One nearly finished a loose herbal concoction, and then flips the remaining biological powders onto a small plate. They then scry based off of the shapes or symbols the leaves lie in. Here are some basic shapes and their meanings.

Symbols:

Anchor: Stability, Stagnancy, permanence, and immobility. Angel: Fortune, positivity, and potential true romance. Apple: Health, longevity, academic or professional success. Aries: Strength, intensity, lust, and scorching emotion. Axe: You have overcome your challenges, victory and triumph. Boat: Reunification, fellowship, familiarity, and support. Bowl: Containment, stagnancy, summer, light, and Litha. Bridge: A wonderful voyage to embark on lies ahead of you. Candle: Enlightenment, guidance, illumination, and warmth. Car: Impending prosperity, fortune, and achievements. Chain: Accountability, a sequence of occasions, and stagnancy. Clouds: Trials and troubles ahead. If surrounded by dots; success is coming. Clover: Upcoming luck. The higher up its located, the sooner it will come. Compass: Guidance, direction, backing, assistance, and support. Crown: Triumph, magnificence, incentives or gifts, and admiration. Cup: Achievement, celebration, emotional healing, and purification. Dagger: Love, encouragement, assistance, and support from allies. Gun: Discord, tension, slander, defamation, and disharmony. Hammer: The journey and trials you’ve faced have been overcome. Hat: Accomplishment, success, and achievement in general. House: Stability, victory in profession or corporate choice. Knots: Apprehensions, concerns, tension, worry, and pressure. Ladder: Advancement, improvement, development, and progress. Mars: Movement, action, progress, vigor, and lustful love. Mountain: Forthcoming impediments, obstacles, and challenges. Mushroom: Rebirth, shifting, transformation, everlasting growth. Owl: Deceit, deception, loss, probable illness, or deprivation. Pear: Social status, wealth, prosperity, and admiration. Ring: Harmony, love, partnership, alliance, and marriage. Scissors: Arguments, disputes, separations, or possibility of ailment. Sun: Stamina, energy, vitality, triumph, and opportunities. What are some of the top mistakes you see new witches make (aside from not warding)?

Another wonderful question like the last one! I love that you know about my not-warding complaints. This is not meant to mock or shame new witches in any way, you guys are welcome here and I hope you know that. It's just for education and a bit of fun.

Common New Witch Mistakes

Let's start with a lightning round, here are all things that are false:

You need to be born into a witch family

You need to be a woman

Certain beliefs are required or you can't believe in God

You have to work with spirits and deities

You must pick a witch type

You need a metaphysical or witchy store to get supplies

Specific kinds of tools or supplies must be used

You need to be Pagan/Wiccan

Witchcraft is the only magical practice there is

Tools must be gifted

You need an altar & fancy supplies

Here are some further mistakes:

Not following mundane safety tips Practice fire safety! Wear gloves when you forage! Don't ingest essential oils! Don't take medical advice from strangers online! I see a long list of things spread around that are just really physically or mentally unhealthy for people.

Believing something just because you heard it in passing Just because you heard somewhere witches have to use crystals doesn't mean it's true. Take things with a grain of salt. Consider them. Cross reference. Knowing how to research and find solid information will serve you as a witch FOREVER.

Missing out on core practices Warding is one of them but also goes for cleansing, charging, grounding. You can decide to not do these things and I can't stop you but you need to know what they are first.

Jumping into spell work Doing a simple low risk spell after some research is fine but I see people trying really risky spells without any research! Backfire is a thing people.

Posting information someone could use against you  Do not show exactly how you do a spell. Do not show exactly how you ward. Do not post your whole birth chart. I see witches and non witches alike do the last one and it sends me off on a tangent every time.

Lack of attention to themselves Know yourself. Find your intuition and follow it. What do you think about that? What do you believe? What do you want your path to be like? Knowing yourself and following your intuition is something that will serve you forever, just like knowing how to research.

Lack of experimentation You're a witch, not a pretentious ceremonial magician. Experiment! As you advance you can write your own spells. You can do tarot without a guide book. You can find your own ingredients. I could go on.

Do you have a like list of topics that you think new witches should look into? i've been trying to make a list of things for myself to research and i wanna get some other more experienced peoples input :)

Wonderful question! Here's a list of what to research and why. Please keep in mind this is just my opinion and these are things I think are essential to everyone who wants to practice witchcraft no matter the background, beliefs, or path.

What To Research As A New Witch

Types of Magical Practices Note, not types of witches. I notice many people don't even know there are many many ways to practice things like magic outside of the modern eclectic witchcraft you often see online. I also notice many people feel limited by the concept of witch types so I suggest you learn about the various magical practices that exist instead, and talk to real witches. What do they do? What do they believe? It varies a lot. I'm sure there's a path for you.

Types of Spells This one is a little more self explanatory. Most people who are interested in witchcraft are interested in spell work or want to get to it eventually. Learning about the types of spells we do is essential, even if you never do them that often or specialize in one or two types of spells like I do I think it's valuable to anyone who wants to be a witch.

Intention Kind of a side tangent off of spell types! You absolutely have to learn to make your intention and needs clear. If you just put some ingredients together without knowing why and without telling them what to do you won't get very far. This goes for things like using crystals too, but it especially applies to spell work.

Types of Divination Similar to the above, most witches do some form of divination. Even if you think divination isn't for you there are a wide variety of methods, try to find one you like. I'd also recommend it because it's a relatively safe practice for new witches where you actually get to do something and try witchcraft.

Tools & Ingredients There are a wide variety of tools and ingredients we use and you need to learn about them so you can find what's right for you and applicable to your practice. Do keep in mind there isn't any tool or ingredient you're obligated to use as a witch unless a tradition you picked requires it.

Cleansing Cleansing is a practice witches do to remove negative or stagnant energy from a place, object or person. It's an essential part of prep especially before spell work, learn about it and the various ways it is done so you can find a method that works for you. You'll be doing it often.

Charging Charging is a sort of sister practice to cleansing. Where cleansing removes energy charging replaces it. Some common objects we charge are our tools and crystals, if you use them, but there's a wide variety of ways it can be applied. I keep using crystals because they're an easy example.

Grounding Grounding is a practice witches do to relax and focus our energy. Like cleansing, it is typically a form of prep done before spells, ritual work, things like that. For many of us though (especially if you're me, who has an anxiety disorder) it can be used any time you like.

WARDING Arguably THE most important on this list because it's so important to keep you safe and so many people don't know about it or do it properly. Warding is a practice we do to protect ourselves from negative energy, entities, and occasionally other witches. It is typically done by building barriers of energy or keeping protective objects near or on you. There are many, many methods though as with most things in witchcraft. The methods can be applied to just about anything you want to keep out too. Think of warding as the energetic or witchy equivalent of having a household security system or carrying pepper spray on you.

Circle Casting This is a practice that's done before spell work. The definition has shifted a bit particularly recently and varies a bit but what people are usually referring to (and what I'm always referring to) is when you call the four elements to empower and protect you.

Banishing & Binding This is a variety of magic/spell. It's kind of what it sounds like. To banish something is to keep it away from you or your space. To bind something is to keep it from continuing (a usually harmful) action or behavior. Usually people recommend you learn about these things to keep yourself safe like with warding but these methods can be applied to mundane things too. Like people. Don't ask me how I know :)

Open & Closed Practices (I'm not part of any culture that is closed so please correct me on this if needs be) Last but certainly not least. If you are present in (the right) witchy spaces you will hear people say a thing or practice is closed. This means that practice is from a closed culture. A closed culture is a culture that is not open to outsiders, and to take from it is cultural appropriation. If you educate yourself on these practices you can avoid wrongfully using them. Additionally as you've probably assumed, an open culture is a culture that is open to outsiders. This means you can respectfully do these practices or take inspiration from them, which is very useful for eclectic witches like me.

Important notes!

I know I mentioned things that relate to spell work a lot here and that may seem useless to those who aren't actively as interested in it as I am but even if you don't do spells often you still need to know how to do these things to prep for when you do. Cleansing, charging, grounding and warding also can be applied outside of spell work and are important to other practices. Any practicing witch should be warded. Do also make sure to pick a topic or two of distinct interest to you. It will keep you motivated and keep things interesting. I hope this helps! Remember to never stop learning.

🌙Magick vs. Magic🌙

And why witches spell it ‘magick’ Or don’t.

The word was created by the controversial occultist Alister Crowley (1875-1947) who founded the religion Thelema which later became known as Wicca.

One reason he added a ‘k’ was to separate between entertainment magic and witchcraft magick.

Many thing the distinction isn’t necessary but there are other reasons Crowley did this.

Crowley’s philosophy of Thelema meant that he also used the word magick to describe any act that brings someone closer to what he called their ‘True Will’; their purpose in life.

Will is different than want

I can make a post about Crowley and True Will in the future

EDIT: I have made a post about True Will, just click the link.

In 1886 (about 11 years from 1875) Crowley’s father, a devout Christian and preacher, passed. Crowley, a formerly devoted follower of Christianity out of respect for his father, began to turn his back on the Christian religion, pointing out irregularities in the Bible. His mother, also a Christian, because of this called him “The Beast.”

When Crowley created the word ‘magick’ he lengthened a five letter word to six letters, the number six being sacred in many beliefs. Interestingly, according to Genesis, God created man on the 6th day. In the Bible, Revelation 13:18, God assigned the number 666 to man and to the Beast.

Revelation 13:18

“Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.”

The letter K is also the 11th number of the alphabet. This number has huge significance to Crowley and he often wrote about its importance: “Firstly”, 11 is the number of Magick in itself” along with his well-known phrase “Do What Thou Wilt Shall Be The Whole Of The Law” which has eleven words and eleven syllables.

Some people refrain from using ‘magick’ due to Crowleys reputation and the several stories surrounding his life, others use ‘magik’ or ‘majick’ or variations of said word. But there is no right or wrong here and you can use ‘magick’ or not, it’s all up to the witch at hand. I just use it to differentiate magick and magic.

⭐💎ZODIAC CRYSTALS AND ANGELS💎⭐

⭐ There are a number of different gems and crystals associated in various traditions for birth months with the zodiac signs under which we are born. I will give a more comprehensive list than usual, as I will suggest you also buy your zodiac crystal angel. If none of the birth crystals feel right, substitute a crystal in the color associated with your birth sign. I will describe your crystalline zodiac angel and the special strengths that can be absorbed either from the angel or the associated crystal. Small crystal angels are relatively cheap and are a very potent source of energy and protection. Some crystals are ruled by more than one zodiac sign.

⭐ Buy a small angel for each member of the family- present, absent, and departed loved ones- adding one for each new birth or new older family members in the future. These you can keep in a circle in your crystal place. Add also any angels whose crystalline zodiacal strengths you need, even though they are not your own sign- for example, a moonstone angel for Muriel, zodiac angel of Cancer, to bring quiet sleep. To Help You Remember:

Wands are days, because they are fire, and fire moves fast.

Swords are weeks, because while a sword is quick to cut, it first requires some thinking on the warrior’s part.

Cups are months, because they are water, and water flows with the moon, which completes a cycle in roughly a month.

Pentacles are seasons to years, because they are seeds, and some seeds only require a season to grow while others need a year.

The timings for the Major Arcana and the Pages are related to the cards’ meanings. Once you know the meanings, you know the timings.

The Kings, Queens and Knights are the Zodiac signs’ birthdays:

King of Wands – Leo (Fixed Fire)

Queen of Wands – Aries (Cardinal Fire)

Knight of Wands – Sagittarius (Mutable Fire)

King of Cups – Scorpio (Fixed Water)

Queen of Cups – Cancer (Cardinal Water)

Knight of Cups – Pisces (Mutable Water)

King of Swords – Aquarius (Fixed Air)

Queen of Swords – Libra (Cardinal Air)

Knight of Swords – Gemini (Mutable Air)

King of Pentacles – Taurus (Fixed Earth)

Queen of Pentacles – Capricorn (Cardinal Earth)

Knight of Pentacles – Virgo (Mutable Earth)

⭐ Inner Child Magic ⭐

⭐ Inner Child Magic ⭐

Connecting to your inner child is a great way to bring curiosity, simple joy and innocence into your life. Here is a simple spell I like to do when things feel overwhelming and I forget who I used to be…

–

You will need

Pen and paper

A blue candle

An object from your childhood

Inner child spell

⭐ Find a peaceful and quiet space to perform the spell. Light the blue candle. Blue is associated with happiness, laughter, innocence and childhood.

⭐ Spend a few minutes looking at the object you brought - it could be anything ; a cuddly toy you used to love, letters from family members, jewellery you received as a child, etc. How does it make you feel? Can you remember the child you used to be?

⭐ On the paper, make a list of things that made you happy as a child. What food did you like? What movie did you love so much that you watched it on repeat? What songs did you sing to yourself in your bedroom? What activity were you always up for? What book did you read under your covers at night, while pretending to sleep?

⭐ Read through the list again. Highlight all the things you can still enjoy today.

⭐ Close your eyes and visualize yourself as a child. Send love, compassion and empathy towards this version of yourself. Make a promise to your inner child that you will not forget the things you used to love.

Successful Job Interview Spell

I just completed this spell for a friend who has a job interview tomorrow, to help give them confidence and make a good first impression. Here's what I used.

Materials:

Tealight candle

Rosemary

Bay leaf

A penny

Tarot deck

Process:

I took the tealight candle out of the metal holder and placed the penny in the bottom.

I took five cards from the tarot deck;

The Emperor, for authority

The Ace of Pentacles, for financial success

The Fool, for new beginnings

The Magician, for the skills to succeed

The Star, for confidence

And placed them around the tealight candle one at a time, stating their purpose.

I lit the candle and placed a few rosemary leaves in the melting wax for protection against negative energy.

I wrote my intention on the bay leaf: "[Friend's Name] will get a job offer soon." Then I burned the bay leaf using the flame from the tealight candle. (Have a bowl nearby to drop the leaf in in case it catches fire quickly, don't burn your fingers!)

I visualized my friend at their interview tomorrow, then getting the job offer, then starting their new job. I did this until I could see the penny underneath the melted wax.

If you try this spell, let me know how it goes!

Witchy Record Keeping; What To Do With A Grimoire/Book of Shadows/ etc.

In my practice, the most important tools are my Book of Mirrors and Grimoire. Record keeping is very crucial to my witchcraft practice. Emphasis on mine, some people find they don’t need to keep records on their magickal information. I feel I need to keep track of where I am in my practice and have it for the future should I ever want to look back.

Witchcraft is deeply personal to each Witch, or your practice is I mean. I find it important to keep records as we are so prone to change we have to keep in mind our past and present to move into our futures. So, here we go.

What’s The Difference?

What is the difference between a Grimoire and Book of Shadows? Well, based in the dictionary there is one, but these words have adopted a different meaning to different people.

Technically speaking, a Grimoire is for spells whereas a Book of Shadows is like a magickal diary or journal. It holds all the other information for your practice.

There is some overlap and some blurring of the lines for some people, and it isn’t required you have both or either. You can really call it whatever you want, there’s no rules to it.

I don’t use a Book of Shadows anymore. My first book was a Book of Shadows but I have since moved on to call my new one a Book of Mirrors. I have a friend who calls hers a Book of Ursa Major. You can call your witchy book whatever you like.

What Should It Look Like?

What do you want it to look like? Ok, I know there’s a big thing with the witch aesthetic to have a beautiful leather bound journal. Yes, my old Book of Shadows is leather bound and so is my Grimoire. But my Book of Mirrors is a blue binder I bought at the store with some cool dividing insets and some covers I made.

You can do whatever you want! You want that leather bound journal, save up for it! You want some old notebook? Go for it! Want to do it electronically? You do you! It’s whatever works for your practice. The only reason I used leather bound for my first Book of Shadows was because it had been a gift from my grandparents. I already had it.

Do what makes you happy and also what you have available to you. There’s nothing wrong with using a notebook or binder, actually I find the binder really useful in keeping things sorted.

Use what you have, it doesn’t have to be fancy.

Where To Start?

I always make a cover page when I start, some people will put a blessing spell in the front, and if you’re Wiccan you can put the Wiccan Rede on the first page if you so please. The reason I make a cover page is to give it an introduction, to write down my book and know this is something important to me. If you want, go in and start writing spells in it. I do recommend you do a blessing spell on it. Just to ensure it is protected and will give you inspiration.

Book Blessing Spell

Take three crystals and put one at the top and two by the sides of the book, you sit with the bottom of the book facing you.

Lay your hands on the cover and recite

“Book of Shadows made to hide,

Book of Light made to guide.

It is you and I, mighty book,

To discover the secrets others overlook.

So mote it be, my good friend.

May we be there till the end.”

How To Fill My Pages?

How do you want to fill the pages? With spells, obviously, but you can include a myriad of other things. Are you a kitchen witch? Put your favorite recipes in there! A green witch? Fill with information about plants! Worship Gods and Goddesses? Put their stories and correspondences in there!

It is to be made by you and no one else. Below are some extra prompt ideas.

Prompts

Ancestor Dedication

Tarot Guide

Personal Correspondences

Symbols Guide

Tool uses

Secret messages

Maps

Flower or herb pressings

Your own art

Stories from your astral travels/ dreams/ nature walks

Your hopes and dreams

Anything Else?

Because this book is made to keep records of where you are in your path, try and date everything. Also every now and again write down your beliefs, what gods you follow or don’t follow, what you believe about the universe, what you believe about magick, etc. Talk about the why and how of your practice.

Most of all, enjoy what you’re creating. Your Book of Shadows/Mirrors/Light/Whatever You Call It is all about you and your practice. Make sure it’s fun and make sure it’s a reflection of you.

This might be one of my longest posts yet but it’s something that’s really important to me. I want other witches to know their practice is their own and everything they do it in belongs to them.

Blessed Be!

🐾Animal Edition🐾

Cats and their magical properties

🐾Animal Edition🐾

Hello my loves! I am finally back with a new post! So todays post is a special one because one I love cats, and two we have hit 2500 followers! I would like to thank you all so much! I love seeing the comments on posts about how you enjoy the information and hacks!

Cats and Magic

Cats are great animals to work with if you wish to develop your intuition, as they have incredible psychic properties.

They symbolise a balance of a wild and tame personality, one that can act on a whim and be independent while also making sensible and open minded choices.

They teach us to balance the physical world with a deep awareness of natures spirit, encouraging us to embrace our spiritual side while also being able to remain grounded

A cat with tri coloured fur is supposed to be extremely lucky, and also has a extra strong protective effect on the home

A snub nosed cat is attracts wealth to its companions, and stroking any cats tail 9 times grants good luck in love

Cats were seen as protectors of the home from disease and rodents, making them an ideal household pet!

Black Cats and their specific magical properties

Are a sign of good luck

If you see a strange black cat for seven days straight it is a sure sign that you will recieve money

Represents that you must believe you are worthy, to develop your own personal and unique craft, and encourages you to take risks and learn from them.

Some uses of cats in magic

Using cats fur in magic to add to your spells can contribute peacefulness, resourcefulness or grace to the spell

If you are stuck with a question of yes or no, call your cat in over a threshold and watch its paws, if its right paw crosses over first then it is a yes, left paw means no.

And thats it loves! I hope this is helpful to any cat lovers out there! Send me asks if you would like a specific topic covered and I will do my best to help! Later loves!
