Here isn't getting as much traffic for my blog as I'd hoped. I opened a Tumblr page as part of several post-Twitter alternatives, but mostly just using it to follow a few fan comics/people I followed on Twitter. I'm also tired of dealing with spambots on here.
As such, I thought I'd reopen my dormant Facebook page to link to new blog posts on, as well as for anyone who won't use anything else besides Meta's site.
While ChatGPT and chatbots are all the rage, I have some doubts about its widespread use, especially after the CNET incident.
Warner Bros. Discovery is launching several FAST channels on Tubi and the Roku Channel. While it's a good idea, WB's streaming state is still in chaos.
Paramount has announced that Paramount+ and Showtime will fully merge into a single service later in 2023, with Showtime renamed "Paramount+ with Showtime."
"Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur" the TV series, "My Dad the Bounty Hunter," and the Super Bowl are among noteworthy media coming out in February 2023.
With HBO Max axing much of their cartoon catalog, I look at how to watch Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, and the Flintstones on DVD and Blu-ray.
Overall, “Velma” didn’t leave me irate, just mildly annoyed at how banal and adolescent its “adult” humor felt, while lacking much else of interest. While I’m glad we finally got a racially diverse version of Mystery, Inc., I just wish it was for a more traditional take on the gang. Otherwise, this show is pretty much “‘Scooby-Doo’ in name only.”
I offer some basic tips on setting up a Plex server for streaming your own video content.
I take a look at the most popular cartoons in 2022 on the major American streaming services, from Netflix to Paramount+ to HBO Max.
HBO Max has seen a lot of its content, from "Westworld" to Looney Tunes, getting axed as part of Warner Bros. Discovery's penny-pinching austerity drive. As such, it's growing hard to recommend as a streaming service for casual viewers. In today’s post, I take a look at some alternatives to HBO Max.
The major animation cable networks are all down in ratings for 2022; kids these days are more likely streaming cartoons nowadays. One channel showed an increase: FXX (now basically the “Fox animation lineup channel”?)
What do Peppermint Patty, Frankenstein Jr. and the Impossibles, and Poison Ivy have in common? They all should’ve entered public domain as of today under their original copyright terms, but didn’t thanks to retroactive extensions.
Also, obligatory ”Mickey Mouse enters public domain a year from today” comments.
Happy New Year’s, everyone! Time to look back over my blog for 2022.
A look at media of interest coming out in January, in an expansion of my old comics/graphic novel picks posts.
Happy first day of Kwanzaa!
Today’s the winter solstice! (Or summer solstice for those in the southern hemisphere.)
I take a look at the reasons why cryptocurrency is a bad thing, i.e. is a flawed concept, from simply not working as money to insufficient government oversight.
A look at "The Real Ghostbusters," plus its short-lived spinoff “Extreme Ghostbusters.”
A look at what appeared on the 2022 Google Year in Search list, from Disney's animated film "Encanto" to the popular word game Wordle.
I look at how the world’s most popular sport is portrayed in cartoons, from dismissive (”The Simpsons”) to the centerpiece of the whole show (”Supa Strikas”).
A look at "Doc McStuffins," the popular Disney Junior animated series about the eponymous character, who serves as a toy doctor.
A look at PBS Kids' "Jelly, Ben & Pogo," a series of animated shorts about two Filipino-American siblings and their sea monster pal.
A collection of tips on starting and running a blog, including choosing a domain name, coming up with topics, and dealing with spam.
In my latest round of Mastodon advice, I list some of my favorite accounts to follow.
Hmm... well, Tumblr *is* supposed to be adding ActivityPub support, which would let it work with the Twitter-like Mastodon. So however it's implemented, that might be Twitter-like enough? Plus it'd be a big boon for Mastodon/ActivityPub/the "fediverse", as it'd be easier to get into it via just using Tumblr?
I keep saying: If Tumblr added a Twitter-like sidebar they would render every other social media platform not supported as a loss-leader for Nazis extinct in a month.
A look at hockey in cartoons, from the gay romance webcomic "Check Please" to DC Comics' fake NHL teams (Gotham City's the home of the "Blades"? Metropolis has the "Mammoths?").
I take a look at animated holiday specials featuring LGBTQ characters, from "The Loud House" to the "Rugrats" reboot.
From December 2021, I look at the year’s worst password choices.
With the possibility of Tumblr adding ActivityPub support, could this give federated social networks like Mastodon a boost in popularity?
I’ve updated my list to reflect “Black Adam” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” being released. As of this writing, the latter is now the third highest-grossing film on the list., after the two billion-dollar entries (the original “Black Panther” and “Aquaman”).
