This is a bit different from what I usually post, but I recently watched a few playthroughs of Poppy Playtime including chapters 1-4. And it got me thinking.
My Au
Imagine player as a super realistic toy. And we were actually created by the prototype. Like think of that one opening scene in Coraline
Now, doesn't other mother (Beldam)’s hand look a bit like the Prototype? And we know from a tape between prototype and the doctor that the prototype could possible want something to be made. Perhaps a replacement for us? Or as its in the past, prohaps it is us.
Like, and we only find out in a tape what we are, where we see the whole intro scene from coraline type tape but with prototype and us.
Anyway let me know if you like this Au as I might expand on it a bit.

Dough-brain here saw that Safe Haven was getting low on supplies and had the bright idea to start skipping almost every meal and barely eating a thing so the littles wouldn’t have to ration their food as much, just as he started doing in canon judging by the “I haven’t eaten in weeks” line after devouring Pianosaurus.
Aaaannd they all found out because he literally passed out in the middle of a conversation, giving everyone a huge fright and pissing the medic off once they figured out what he’d been doing to himself.
Partially inspired by a post I reblogged a bit ago talking about how much pain Doey puts himself through just to make sure the little ones have enough to eat 😢

Can we agree that Doey has the potential to be a he/they because he has 3 kids in him but is mostly referred to as a “he”

I totally agree with you, as someone with anger issues and gets super overwhelmed easily; to see the hate towards Kevin...it hurts a lot because I understand how he feels to an extent.
People don't like you when you're angry and see you as 'bad' and it hurts. The boy was traumatized and had probably one of the best things taken away from him in a visceral way and moment, he was valid to react the way he did, to lash out. I lash out to when my emotions overwhelm me, hitting an angry cracking point that leads into a meltdown.
And a little off that but to me Doey, or at least the three boys within, would definitely have formed some sort of found siblings relationship. And all their struggles are very real in their respective roles. I've moved through the sibling hierarchy, starting as the youngest, then going to the middle child, and then when my sister moved out I was put into the eldest role. Each boy obviously would have their own struggles and I feel for them.
To understand Doey at all is to understand each boy within him, and to love them all equally.

But you're very right and I could not say it better.
Doey and all the boys that make him deserve so much love. And as far as I care in my current state of knowing Poppy Playtime, I wholeheartedly believe that all the toys deserve to be happy. They're just kids man.
BTW I cannot stress enough that if you do not care/have an understanding for all three of those boys that form Doey, I do not want your opinions.
Do not come at me with "Kevin is the bad/evil one" or "i would like doey if it wasn't for Kevin :/"

I love Doey and all three of those poor boys and I will hear nothing else.

For those who don’t know the AU: it’s 1995 and Playtime Co. has decided their toys are good enough to publicly display and brag about through a massively expensive Toy Tour. Obviously it’s amazing for bragging and getting collaborations and deals, but there’s always the chance someone might want to… steal the Tour toys.
For those who know the AU: Harley and Ollie were like “yeah let’s beef up security lol” and the BBI is now getting trained to eat people even more than usual. Three new BBI toys are brought in. First is Infox, made by @thattiredgamer! Second is Miss Marionette, made by @yukitiramisu! And the third is Doey the Doughman, whose dough is so shock-absorbent he’s going to keep the more savage BBI under control.
TL;DR: dough bro is a big beefy security guard
He works so well for the smaller bodies initiative too because come on it’s literally safe haven all over again
