And I am not talking about the content on this website… I am talking about the website itself, like from a technical standpoint…
for example: the Create Post window looks like this:
but when you zoom in 200% with your browser it suddenly changes to this?
and this window doesn’t just look different, it is miles ahead of the other one in every single way, for example this his the build in text editor:
yeah, you can change color and font without doing any HTML bullshit…
And the wildest thing… you’re not limited to one kind of post with this create post window…
You want to create a hybrid post that has pictures, text, a video and music? you can just do that no problem…

I’ve seen a few asks/comments running around about how the witches of Tumblr seem to have all their ducks in a row and do magic spells 24/7 and are generally “perfect” because of it. I can tell you this is probably not the case. At least for me its not. I am not a Perfect Witch. I don’t rigorously follow the phases of the moon, most of the time i forget anyways. I don’t do spells on a regular basis (at least not what i consider to be spells) Heck most of the time the most witchy things i do is reblog stuff to this tumblr. So for newbie witches and hidden witches please understand: It’s completely okay to not be a “perfect” witch. Once you’ve discovered that you’re a witch you don’t have to cast spells 24/7 in order to protect your title. The Title of Witch is yours as soon as you decide you want to Claim It. No one can or should tell you how to run your path. That is something you will have to discover for yourself, and honestly that’s the best part of the journey. So you forgot a sabbat, big whoop. Sabbats come and go and i rarely do anything for them anyways (maybe halloween but thats tradition haha) Another full moon pass you by? That’s okay, some people don’t like working with the moon and that’s also okay. Try casting a spell and you don’t think it worked? Trust me i still do spells and most of the time they don’t work too. So to all the newbies and hidden witches: Do not fret. You have plenty of time to come into your path and please please please do not feel like you HAVE to be perfect in your path. I am proud to follow my path with all its bumps and turns it throws at me
Please these are so precious

The witch you tell him not to worry about
Once again, it’s time for one of those posts that baby witches love to flock to in order to see what branches of witchcraft are out there that they can dive into. There’s no reason for me to make this post other than the fact I’ve always wanted to make one. In fact, sometimes I explicitly go into the tag just to see these sorts of posts for the nostalgia that they bring for when I discovered a witchcraft community on tumblr.
So for the baby witches out there looking to conduct their own research about the craft, here is another post you can look at to get a look at some notable branches of witchcraft. Just remember, there are numerous branches out there that are already established and that can be brought to light. So maybe if none of these sorts of branches call your interest, I would definitely suggest looking at your surroundings and the things you are drawn to and experimenting with them magically to see what correspondences they hold and using that for witchcraft.
If you find that popping popcorn helps you with spells, do it. Be the Popcorn Witch or Blacksmith Witch, you never thought possible. Just respect others crafts, research in depth what cultures are closed or semi-close or open, and have fun figuring your path out.
(Though keep in mind you don’t need to label yourself as a ‘type’ of witch, just do what feels right. Many witches, regardless of type, may use any method of casting their spells whether it be candles, crystals, or water they’ve collected so don’t feel that you need to limit yourself with your tools because of a path you may want to follow.)
This post includes small summaries about a small handful of particular paths, a handful of blogs in that path to check out, some 101 posts for those interested in a branch I mention, as well as some spells you may want to try out. So take your time and really look through a branch you may truly feel called towards.
Art Witch: A witch that uses art in their craft whether it be whether traditional or digital. They’ll utilize color correspondences, sigils, or what have you to get the job done in more visual spells. The medium the art witch chooses is irrelevant as long as it is art, this to me, can be interpretive to the individual. Personally I include writing as a form of art. So do with that, what you will! From what I’ve seen, some art witches will even have their sketchbooks act as a sort of grimoire or book of shadows. Art Witchcraft Blog(s): @artwitchpath, @modernwitchesdaily Art Witchcraft Post(s): Intro to Art Witchcraft, Art Witch Tip, Color Casting Notable Spell(s): Self Love Sigil, Health and Healing Sigil, Focus Sigil, Luck Sigil
Bath Witch: A witch that will utilize herbs, flowers, essential oils in a different way that burning something into a candle– the bath. These witches make a second home out of their shower, using the magical correspondences of certain material to manifest particular outcomes into their lives. Showers are also part of this sort of magic for those who aren’t fans of sitting in their tub and prefer to stand. Bath Witchcraft Blog(s): (While I was unable to find witches that went under a ‘bath witch’ title here are some witches who have talked about bath magic a good deal) @themanicnami, @orriculum Bath Witchcraft Post(s): Bath Witchcraft 101, Bath Bomb Magic, Shower Magic, Bath Magic Notable Spell(s): Rose Bath Spell, Lucky Waters Bath Spell, Sea Foam Latte, Kickstart My Heart Bath Spell
Cosmic Witch: A witch that utilizes and draws upon the energy of celestial bodies, including our sun, various moons, stars, galaxies, nebulae, and comets. You name it, they do it. Some cosmic witches in particular consistently rely on specific celestial bodies, for instance Pluto or Jupiter and may coin themselves with more specific titles such as ‘Plutonian Witch’ or ‘Jovian Witch’, etc. Cosmic Witchcraft Blogs: @lunaesteria, @phaesphore Cosmic Witchcraft Post(s): Cosmic Witchcraft Masterpost, Cosmic Witchcraft 101, Types of Cosmic Witches Notable Spell(s): Jupiter Self Love Spell, Quasar Banishing Spell, Neptunian Clairvoyance Spell, Shooting Star Hex
Death Witch: A witch that works with death. This path can include helping the deceased move on, finding power and acceptance in the inevitability of death. Instead of finding death the end of one’s life it can represent the end of many things in our lives from friendship to certain opportunities. This path can also include vulture culture, though that varies from witch to witch. Chthonic deity worship is often followed in this practice. Death Witchcraft Blog(s): @death-witch-envy, @chthonic-curiosities, @gravemire Death Witchcraft Post(s): Death Witchcraft 101, Graveyard Dirt Collecting, What Death Witchcraft Taught Me, Bone Correspondences Notable Spell(s): Relieving Grief Spell, Honor the Dead Spell, Pet Funerary Spell,
Divination Witch: A witch whose primary focus is divination. This doesn’t stop at just standard and mainstream divination such as tarot or pendulum. This can include any method in which a witch sees the possible futures around them. Divination can be done through many methods including throwing bones, birds, seashells, candle wax, leaves, clouds, and even pop culture methods. The possibilities are endless. Dream Witch: A witch that works with the subconscious mind and prepares their spells to influence their dreams. Their spells can revolve around sending messages, lucid dreaming, as well divination in order to divine any signs their dreams may be telling them. Dream journaling is recommended often to those who wish to practice this path as remembering your dreams is quite a big part of it. Dream Witchcraft Blog(s): @sundreamous Dream Witchcraft Post(s): Putting Things Under Your Pillow, Dream Work Correspondence Masterpost, Lucid Dreaming Masterpost, How to Send Dreams Notable Spell(s): Love Advice Dream Spell, Remember Your Dreams Jar Spell, Sleep Protection Jar Spell, I Dream of my Past Life Sigil
Eclectic Witch: A witch whose path is an accumulation of various branches of witchcraft and as such, each eclectic witch is different. For instance a witch whose path is a mixture of cosmic, green, and pop culture magic versus an eclectic witch who uses technology and occasionally tosses something into a jar and uses game cards for spells. There is no real way to find bloggers or spells of this branch as it is one that is your very own. My suggestion for those who feel they may lean into an eclectic path, try out various branches of witchcraft and continue on with whatever calls to you.
Faerie Witch: A witch that works closely with the fae. This can include working with particular Courts, using certain fae magic such as glamours, and leaving offerings for the fae to connect with them and express gratitude for any help they may have given you in a spell. This is a particularly difficult branch of witchcraft as you must be very knowledgeable about dealing with the fae, fae etiquette, and avoiding them. There is a discrepancy in what sort of spirits constitute as fae as far as merfolk and elves being included between practitioners, I suggest asking the mermaid and elf themselves if they consider themselves a fae as some may and some may not. Fae Witchcraft Blog(s): @moon-lightfaerie Fae Witchcraft Post(s): Faerie Witchcraft 101, Signs of House Fae, Casting Glamours, Faerie Rings, My Fae Stories Notable Spell(s): Faerie Milk Bath, Faerieland Sigil, Fae Attraction Charm, Faeries Are Welcome Sigil
Green Witch: A witch who works closely with the earth and uses herbs and flowers to manifest outcomes. There are other sub-branches of this path such as a Floral Witch and Garden Witch, but the spells are all the same. These are witches who are in tune with their plants and the nature around them. Though it may look like it, not every green witch is born with a green thumb and there are plenty who developed one over time. Be careful with plant identification and edible plants, it’s greatly recommended to either grow your own organic plants or just buy herbs if you wish to do spellwork that includes consuming herbs. Hedge Witch: A witch that works closely with spirits and “rides the hedge”, or as its often put, travels to liminal planes such as the astral. This is a path that is rather close to the green witch and traditional witch paths, often using herbs to help with meditation and hedge riding. This path requires patience as not everyone can freely and easily astral project or travel or hear the voices of non-physical entities. Kitchen Witch: A witch who uses their ingredients’ magical correspondences and cooks them to cast and manifest their spells. This can include the standard ingredients in their recipes or using additional herbs and spices for a kitchen witch spell. Should these witches celebrate the Sabbats, the harvest festivals are when they would shine. Kitchen Witch Blog(s): @kitchenwitchcraft. Kitchen Witchcraft Post(s): Taste Correspondences, Fruit Correspondences, Food Correspondences, Notable Spell(s): Grilled Cheese Spell, Luck and Love Bread Spell, Biscotti Heart Warming Spell, Spirit Soup, Prosperity Dutch Baby Spell
Love Witch: A witch whose magic focuses around love magic. This can include attracting love their way, self-love, platonic love, familial love, or even ending relationships. When it comes to this path, there is a general consensus against forcing one to love you or another person. If you’re going to practice love magic, focus on yourself or just raising the opportunity for you to meet someone you can start a romantic relationship with. Love Witch Blog(s): (couldn’t really find specific love witches) Love Witchcraft Post(s): Love Correspondences, Love Witch Self-Care Tip, Notable Spell(s): Begone Pining Spell, Tinder Matches Love Spell, Communication Emoji Spell, Lucky Love Charm, Self-Love Spell
Lunar Witch: A witch that follows a specific branch of witchcraft in correspondence to a moon and may typically practice spells at night. More often than not, our moon, but this includes the moons of other planets such as Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, etc. Each phase of the moon in particular will have their own correspondences and as such, it’s important to plan ahead in your spells and track the moon to perform the spell you would like. Pop Culture Witch: A witch who draws inspiration from tv shows, books, anime, and movies for their spells. A spell based off of the Screaming Rick meme? This can happen in pop culture witchcraft. A glamour that makes you feel as gorgeous as your favorite character in Sailor Moon? This is possible in this branch of witchcraft. It has even gone so far as for some pc witches to find pop culture deities to worship and find guidance from. Sea Witch: A witch who works with the ocean, drawing its energy and using its gifts to cast their magic. There are variants of the sea witch that work with water, but not directly with the sea (ex. ponds, lakes, rivers). Sea witches typically work closely with sea (and even lunar) deities and other spirits of the sea such as merfolk and faeries such as kelpies and selkies. Solar Witch: A witch, like the lunar witch, follows a specific branch of witchcraft in that they draw and utilize the energy of the sun for their spells. Typically, these witches cast their spells during the day when the sun is both present and at its strongest. Some solar witch activities include making sun water, sun tea, and charging stones. While the sun does not follow phases, there are different times of day best for certain magic and like how moon water takes the properties of the phase it was left out in, the same goes for sun water. For solar witches who wish to cast magic but its nighttime, they can draw energy from the stars as the sun is scientifically considered a star. Tea Witch: A witch whose craft surrounds preparing drinks such as tea into magical creations. Choosing teas based off correspondence and even incorporating stirring motions to grant magical aid alongside herbs, edible flowers, honey, sugar, etc. Iced, Hot, Lukewarm, it’s up to the witch on how they prepare their witchy brews. Tea Witch Blog(s): @orriculum Tea Witchcraft Post(s): Teas That Aid Divination, Herbal Tea Correspondences, Fruit Tea Correspondences, Normal Tea Correspondences, Stirring Magic Notable Spell(s): Lunar Rose Milk Tea Self-Love Spell, Thunder Focus Spell, Daytime Witch Tea
Tech Witch: A witch that, unlike most, prefers to use technology quite heavily in their craft beyond constellation and moon apps. These witches typically use their laptops, computers, and phones in their spell. They may keep their BoS/Grimoires as apps and even go as far as to using code for sigils and color magic, emoji spells, scrying via their blacked out phone or laptop screens, or use their own WiFi routers as the wards that protect their home. There unfortunately isn’t many resources for this branch of witchcraft as readily as some other paths. Weather Witch: A witch whose path is dictated by the weather as their spells resolve around it. From using storm water to give their spells an extra oomph or calling in a bigger chance for rain, these witches pay close attention to their weekly weather forecast. Some weather witches in particular will utilize and call upon particular weather patterns such as snow, rain, or storm and may label themselves as Snow Witches, Rain Witches, or Storm Witches specifically. Channeling is allowing a nonphysical entity to use your physical body, in order to accomplish something. If that sounds, vague, it’s because it is. Channeling takes many different forms and intensity levels! Depending on how it’s done, it can be a medium-difficulty task or one of the most advanced things a spirit worker can do.
I once heard channeling described as a car ride, and in my experience that’s very accurate. The car is your body, and you’re in it with an entity. Sometimes you’re in the driver’s seat, and the entity is in the back seat giving directions. Sometimes you or the entity is in the passenger’s seat: not calling most of the shots, but able to reach over and grab the wheel if needed. Sometimes you’re in the backseat watching the entity drive, and sometimes you’re in the trunk. In practice, this can take a number of forms.
Speaking on Behalf. This is the kind of channeling people do most often. The entity isn’t controlling you, just feeding you lines which you can then relay to a third party. You’re translating their messages to something other people can comprehend. If you’ve ever answered a question for a spirit in their words, you’ve done this.
Isolated Channeling. The entity takes control of just a part of the body, usually the hands or fingers. This is mostly used for things like automatic writing.
Assuming Form. Also known as consensual possession. The entity is in the driver’s seat, speaking and acting for themselves without your help. Some people will call this “horsing.”
Possession. While the word “possession” could technically cover all of this, within the spirit work community it’s usually reserved for channeling where the human did not consent beforehand. This doesn’t necessarily mean in a violating way- I once had a friend who got possessed just long enough for an entity to yank them out of danger; once I was taken for just a moment to convey a quick (but very direct) message to a devotee, and snapped out of it right after.
Everyone will have a different reason to channel but most of them fall under a few categories:
Helping Someone Else. You’re channeling on behalf of someone who can’t [easily] reach the entity themselves, in order to ease communication between the two parties. This is often seen with mediums contacting spirit guides and Ancestors.
Aid in Other Works. The entity is better suited to accomplish a certain task than you, so you let them take the lead. This is often seen with a familiar or spirit companion, someone the practitioner works with closely enough to know their strengths and trust them.
Easier Communication Overall. Channeling is a way to get really familiar with an entity’s energy. Again, we often see this with spirit companions and is more to bond than to achieve another goal. This would include automatic writing or letting a spirit experience things “through” you.
Ritual Invitation. In some traditions, it’s common to invite deities to ritual events. Often, some type of channeling/possession is expected and is usually reached through ecstatic experiences. It’s taken as a sign the deity has arrived at the party, either a sign the offerings have been received or a time for the deity to convey important messages.
Know How To Protect Yourself. This is non-negotiable. Is your discernment tuned enough to spot an impostor or malevolent entity? Do you know how to end a session early? Do you know how to banish a spirit in an emergency? If the answer is no, then study up and return to channeling when you’re ready.
Know Your Entity. Channeling, by nature, puts the practitioner in an intimate and vulnerable place, so you don’t want to give that access to an entity who may misuse it. If it’s your first time channeling, make sure you trust this entity with your life.
Don’t Channel Alone. When you channel, you’re in an altered state of consciousness. Having someone grounded near you helps keep the session on track and keep you out of trouble should you need it. (Either by forcing an entity out if needed or just keeping you from climbing that tree.)
It’ll Probably Take a Lot Out of You. Have something ready to ground and rehydrate yourself after a session, and make sure you don’t have anything high-demand planned after.
Start Small. No need to jump head-first into the most advancecd and high-intensity types of channeling! Start with automatic writing or painting and get used to the feeling and work your way up.
Don’t Make It Weird. Basic etiquette still matters. Channeling is not a pass to give unsolicited messages to other practitioners, speak on behalf of their deities to them (unless they’ve specifically asked), or say hurtful things cushioned by: “What? It wasn’t me who said it.”
Messages Are Rarely “Pure.” This means everything is still filtered through you, the practitioner. Your values, morals, biases, and beliefs can inform what messages get through and how they are conveyed. Nobody wants to send out a message they disagree with, after all. This becomes less of an influencing factor with experience as one learns to hone their skill and let go more, but it’s important to always keep in mind. (If a channeling friend says a deity doesn’t accept your gender identity or something, that’s a good sign that really your “friend” doesn’t accept it.)
This is the divination infographic that I recently illustrated for my Editorial Illustration class! We were free to choose our own topics, so of course I chose something magic related. I wanna continue making these, so hit me up with some topic suggestions that you’d like to see! Please do not repost elsewhere without credit ♡

Shadow Work
Origins, Meaning and Utility
Carl Jung theorized the existence of three levels/spheres in the human psyche: the Ego, representing the conscious mind, the Personal Unconscious where memories are contained and the Collective Unconscious, where all knowledge and experiences of the species are shared.
Each Sphere has in it a certain number of Archetypes, used to better describe the components of those structures, and the Shadow is one of them.
The shadow can be seen as a instinctual or primitive part of ourselves, it exists as part of the unconscious mind and is composed of repressed ideas, weaknesses, desires, instincts, and shortcomings.
It is this archetype that contains all of the things that are unacceptable not only to society, but also to one's own personal morals and values, normally going against social norms and rules as well as what we personally consider right.
The Shadow is often described as the darker side of the psyche, representing wildness, chaos, and the unknown, and it is common for people to deny this element of their own psyche and instead project it on to others.
Art: Unknown
The Shadow, in witchcraft, can represent The Unknown, hidden depth of ourselves. Speaking in terms of energy, this is an area that can be a deep source of energetic issues, because it’s locked up in the dark and always striving to reach the light.
To not work with one’s Shadow is to make it greedy and aggressive, as well as denying a big part of oneself, making everything a half of a whole.
Through that brief explanation, we can already establish the importance and role of the Shadow in witchcraft, and with that in mind, comes the concept of Shadow Work.
Shadow Work can be seen in a number of practices, meditation, trances, inner journey’s, lucid dreaming, astral travels, spells and divination.
The method can change, but the principle is simple: Centering your intent to self discovery, self knowledge and self acceptance.
Working with one’s Shadow is not only beneficial to one’s craft, as it allows one to get in touch with their intuition as well as allows for easier connection with one’s guide/guides, but it also allows for healing and acceptance of one’s feelings and needs.
Think of all aspects of life as a wheel. If there is one part bent, the wheel can turn, but with more effort. If the owner spends time fixing that bent part, the wheel will turn in a much more smooth manner.
That is what happens when you take the time to do Shadow Work, you have to put in effort, and most of the time it’s not easy, but once done, all other components on the wheel of your life will be relieved to move on without that obstacle that makes their job harder.
The Shadow is not evil, as evil is just a moral compass invented by humans. It is a part of one’s nature, and to deny it is to supress a connection with yourself.
Take the time to know and accept your shadow, and you’ll see that life will be a little easier.

First thing I will say, that many might not like: Familiars in folklore are spirit beings. Not just any spirits, but ones that a witch has made a pact with for various other tasks usually in exchange for offerings, lending of power, a foothold to the physical world, and sometimes protection as well.
They were also in folklore inherited from other witches, given/assigned to a witch by a more powerful spirit being (most often Fae Royalty, Divine Beings including God, or the 'Devil'), or show up on their own offering assistance in times of need. However, they still perform the tasks and expect reciprocity.
Familiars can and do in folklore, leave. They are not permanently bound to the witch and so will leave if their the relationship is no longer beneficial. A witch could also have more than one Familiar in their lifetime or at a time.
☽⦁──────── ⦁⧊⦁ ────────⦁☾
Familiars did not always look like animals, they also could be plants or humanoid. Some are said to be capable of shapeshifting or possessing living creatures with the help of their witch. Interestingly, in my research, I found more accounts of humanoid Familiars that could shapeshift or had some beastial traits (they also ranged in size) in early folklore than I did actual animal Familiars.
Also, in the literature, I encountered they were about 8/10 times referred to as ‘Familiar spirits’ instead of just Familiar. They are also often described as imps, fairies, or demons. However, they seem to be closer or more often related to Fae lore. * Which when you take away the Celtic cultural context from the classification of ‘Fae’ it is basically distinction-less meaning any liminal being not human or divine. *
☽⦁──────── ⦁⧊⦁ ────────⦁☾
“In the early 1970s, Jeffrey Russell noted that 'The small demons that became the witches' familiars of the later Middle Ages were originally dwarves, trolls, fairies, elves, kobolds, or the fertility spirits called Green men, any of whom could be either frightening or funny' and Keith Thomas claimed that the cunning man's fairy helper belongs 'to the same genre as the witch's familiar or the conjurer's demons?'
In 1971 Keith Thomas lamented that the English animal familiar was 'largely unaccounted for'.Despite such references to formality and fear, a large number of relationships between magical practitioner and familiar spirit were informal and intimate” (Wilby).
☽⦁──────── ⦁⧊⦁ ────────⦁☾
Tasks included but were not limited to spying, shapeshifting, attacking or protecting others, give knowledge, warn and aid in times of danger, help a witch develop abilities, and travel between worlds.
The most common offerings mentioned in folklore was blood, energy, and a stable foothold in our realm. However, modernly people offer what one would standardly offer a spirit. Things like milk, honey, incense, food items, and items work just fine.

A Magickal Pet is a physical animal that lives with a witch, that said witch uses for magickal purposes, involves in ritual work, and/or feels spiritually connected to.
This connection really isn't uncommon in pet owners in general and you could involve any animal in magick, so what really makes a Magickal Pet? Well, it is the belief that the pet is interested in the witches craft. Most modern witches cite things like seeming interest in their altar or actions during ritual work, as well as divination forms like interrupting tarot sessions.
You can get a Magickal Pets the same way you get any pet. You don’t need to have these animals from a young age to have a deep connection with them.
☽⦁──────── ⦁⧊⦁ ────────⦁☾
There is a bit of an ethical dilemma when it comes to using your pets in your craft. This is that using your pets energy, fur, etc. and involving them in rituals can open them up to the same dangers you face during all spell work.
This like overextending their energy, spell blow-back, and connecting them to the work can and do occur. There isn’t really a way that they can expressly consent so if you are going to involve them then PLEASE ward your fur, scale, or feather babies.
☽⦁──────── ⦁⧊⦁ ────────⦁☾
This is when you ask yourself why you want a Familiar? Are you ready for one? What kind of Familiar do you think you can handle? As well as think up what your basic terms and negotiate terms are. This introspection period is often paired with meditation.
Plan your ritual. Time, place, tools, etc.? Take into account the weather of the day and be sure not to trespass. Maybe you want to make new portable wards or make/acquire a vessel, anchor, or conduit for the spirit (some spirits refuse to be bound to them and they are not mandatory).
Ward yourself and, if you use them, cast your circle. I recommend warding both your self and the space. Here is a pretty good wiki if anyone needs ideas or is confused: Wards
Lay out your offerings. Offerings can include food items, incense, burning herbs, etc. But if you are going to be doing this outside then I recommend non-toxic and biodegradable materials. Milk and honey are always an easy and safe bet.
Call to potential spirits. You can use the one below or make your own.
”Spirits of the forest, I pronounce my intentions to thee.
Come forth and seek me, and equal we will be.
Not master and servant, but familiar to familiar, to share our knowledge, our spirit, and our traits.”
Meditate and wait for a spirit to answer your call. This may take a bit and they may not show until you enter the astral plane, are sleeping, or at all. Just like in the show, spirits might not come to you right away and that's okay. However, if they don't come within about 3 days then you might want to try again.
If/When a spirit shows you then negotiate your terms. Tell them what you want and expect of a Familiar and allow them to say their terms. Get a feel of the spirit and judge whether they are the right choice. Be flexible, but also know the terms you will not move on. Many spirits will take a mile when you give them an inch.
The first spirit might not be your best choice and that’s okay, be careful not to bite off more than you can chew. For example, if you are a witchling or new to spirit work then you should probably respectfully decline powerful spirits like Aos si or mid-level demons (I don’t know how to express that better, sorry demonologists and workers).
Be realistic about what you can handle and try to avoid power/experience imbalances. * I personally have turned away spirits that I felt I was not ready for and there is no shame in it. * Don’t become disrespectful if a spirit decides to say no. They are sentient and often sapient beings that have the right to refuse.
Part of your negotiation may have included a vessel or anchor for them (you may make one and they refuse) and this would be the time for you to bind them to it.
Conduits are physical objects used to channel a spirit beings energy and a spirit may prefer that over an anchor/vessel. For example Sigils, the spirit might give you -or you can ask for- a sigil to represent them in ritual and for easy communication. Possibly bring a notebook and pen, just in case.
End your communication with the spirit, close your circle (if you use them), and cleanse yourself to avoid having parasitic or negative spirits attach to you. Gather your stuff as needed.
☽⦁──────── ⦁⧊⦁ ────────⦁☾
Many modern witches equate these two things but unfortunately, a Magickal Pet simply isn’t capable of many of the things a Familiar is. They can’t consent and they rely on you for spiritual and magickal protection.
If it wasn’t for the tasks and capabilities then I would be completely fine with people applying the label to their pets. I have no problem with people involving pets in their craft and I think it is great that so many people feel so connected to their pets as it tells me they are well loved, and that’s always great to see.

🌱Earth spirits are just about the easiest ones to make contact with. Their forms tend to be less subtle than those of many fairies, and they generally stick to one place- so if you feel a location is haunted by these beings, it will always be haunted. Wherever anything grows, there will be a fairy to attend to it.
🌱 Earth fairies love gardens, and will gather round you while you are planting and watering. At the end of a hot day they exult when you get out the hose or watering can, and will dance among the refreshed flowers with glee. Often they do not like you weeding, though,so make sure you always do this with respect. Leave a patch of your garden to grow wild, for the fairies love this and it creates a space for all the plants that are unwelcome elsewhere- just because humans do not like them, this does not mean they do not have a valuable place in the scheme of things.
To draw close to the gnomes, settle quietly in your garden or in a park, woodland, field, or hillside- close to a barrow-mound may be the most powerful place of all. Gnomes of the deep earth may be experienced in a cave or hollow, whereas others may be more of the flower- or tree-fairy types. Let your bare feet and hands make contact with the earth, mud or stone. Beat a soft rhythm on a drum,if you wish.
Be very still, relaxed, and quiet. Try not to see anything, because that will put you in the wrong frame of mind. Just be there, and be observant- these spirits do not show themselves in the ways you might expect, and seeing them can seem almost ordinary.
Be aware of any little movements out of the corner of your eye, for that is where spirits are often first perceived. An animal running in the undergrowth may also be a shy gnome in disguise. Look out for the face of the Green Man among the leaves, and watch flowers, for they can also be sweet faces, nodding and smiling.
To show they have drawn close to you, gnomes will often give you a tangible gift, such as a coin or a piece of jewelry. If you find this on your path, treasure it, for it is very lucky.
Hello witches! I couldn’t sleep last night, so I wandered to my altar and made a spell jar for vivid dreaming. I love dream magick, but sadly I find that I never remember my dreams/don’t dream at all most nights. This spell was powerful, and I was visited by Aphrodite in my dream. So I’d love to share it with you all✨
A glass jar
A light blue and dark blue candle
Lavender incense
Moon water
Thyme
Lavender flowers
Sage
Black salt (for protection, this is optional)
Lavender oil (optional)
Your wand of choice (optional)
I also used amethyst, crystal quarts and selenite.
Cast your circle and cleanse the room you’ll be sleeping in (I use ethically sourced palo santo to cleanse). During this time I call upon whatever deities I wish to work with, but if you don’t work with the devine that’s okay too. After casting your circle, light the lavender incense and use the smoke to cleanse your materials.
Set your intention! What kind of things are you looking to gain from this dream? Are you performing this spell for what kind of reasons?
Light your blue candles. I used both light and dark blue.
Add your moon water to the jar, along with a few sprigs of thyme, a pinch of ground sage, lavender flowers, black salt and lavender oil. As your doing this, focus on your intention. Visualize what you’re wanting to gain from this spell.
I used a little chant while doing this:
Whatever the meaning, so mote it be. Show me the dream I wish to see.
Meditate on your intention. Call upon your deities if you work with them, ask them to guide you during your sleep.
Take the melted wax from your blue candles and pour it into the jar while you focus and meditate on your intention. After this, take your wand and trace a pentagram over the jar while using the chant above. Tap the glass three times with your wand to set the spell.
Once this is finished, take your desired crystals and the jar to a place beside your bed (i set my things on my bedside table). Put out your candles, incense, turn off the lights and get comfy in bed. Meditate on your intention as you fall asleep ✨
More grimoire pages from last night 👀 I made a few mistakes but other than that it's pretty good so far.
Weather Magic
The term “weather magic” or “weather witching” has been used to mean anything from divination and forecasting of weather to actual control and manipulation of the weather itself. From calling up treacherous storms to destroy another’s crops or providing fair winds for those at sea, witches (and even those who do not consider themselves to be such) have always been involved with weather magic. When you consider that most forms of magic are based around an agricultural past, the ability to affect and predict the weather was considered an invaluable skill. After all, if your family’s livelihood depended on the success of your crops (or the ability to find water as it did in my family’s case), weather magic would be an extremely handy thing to know.
Why the url Storm Born Witch?
I am quite fortunate, as the gift for weather related magic comes easily to my family. For generations, the men in my family have been dowsers or water diviners. However, it wasn’t until after I displayed an aptitude to weather related magic that I was told about my family’s history with it.
My grandfather was the last water diviner in the family and he died when I was very young so I was never taught how to divine for water. My grandmother was the one to teach me what little she knew about weather magic - the rest either occurred naturally or I picked up along the way.
Whistling Up A Wind
This is the most common form of weather magic and has been practiced for hundreds of years. Depending on the pitch and tone of the whistle a witch can create a gentle breeze or a sharp gust of wind. Traditionally, if the skill of whistling up a wind does not come naturally to you the option of making a ‘wind whistle’ out of willow or alder wood is available.
Here in Australia, whistling up a wind is probably the most common form of magic I do. I honestly do not go a day without whistling up a cool breeze. It’s bloody hot here and sometimes a cool breeze is just what you need.
Storm Casting
Storm casting is the art of creating storms. There are many different methods to creating storms and bringing rain. The method used by my family is to fill a jug with water and while sitting outside (or facing a window) pour the water into a basin or bowl (I just use a wash basin I inherited from my mother - see below). Dip the tip of your pointer finger into the water and slowly make five clockwise circles in the water (if you have a pendant necklace this can be used instead - just above the water in the bowl).
As you are making the circles call the wind to bring in a storm by blowing (or whistling a continuous low note - the sound of wind over the mouth of a glass bottle) over the water in the basin.
Storm Catching
Storm catching or “reeling in a storm” is even more difficult than storm casting so it’s always wise to think before you cast. Too much energy put into a storm and it will go on for weeks (and cause some flooding - basement incident) or it will be extremely violent and knock down power lines and tree branches. Too little energy and all you will get is a 5 minute shower of rain.
The most common way to catch a storm is by binding it in string/rope or in a bottle. The storm can then be released from the bottle or string at a more opportune time by pulling out the cork or undoing the braid/knots.
Dear Diana, how can I calculate my dominant element and modality? Thank you🙏
If you do not know how to do this yourself, here are some natal chart generators. Co-Star is the one I use below. Let us talk about it as if it is yours.
Depending on the natal chart generator you use, you could also see the asteroids and the nodes. But the only players that matter are the 10 astrological planets and the Ascendant, highlighted below.
“Your” Zodiac signs are the Zodiac signs where the 11 players are. Out of the 12 Zodiac signs, there are 6 that you can call yours, highlighted below.
How many players do you have in each of your Zodiac signs?
Capricorn – 3 (Ascendant + Uranus + Neptune)
Scorpio – 3 (Mars + Pluto + Sun)
Aquarius – 2 (Saturn + Moon)
Virgo – 1 (Jupiter)
Libra – 1 (Venus)
Sagittarius – 1 (Mercury)
Use these correspondences:
FIRE – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
EARTH – Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo
AIR – Libra, Aquarius, Gemini
WATER – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Capricorn having 3 players in it means 3 points for Earth.
Scorpio having 3 players in it means 3 points for Water.
Aquarius having 2 players in it means 2 points for Air.
Virgo having 1 player in it means 1 point for Earth.
Libra having 1 player in it means 1 point for Air.
Sagittarius having 1 player in it means 1 point for Fire.
So far, Earth leads with 4 points. Water and Air follow with 3 points each. Fire gets 1.
Now, identify the element of your Sun and Ascendant. They are the most important parts of your natal chart. So add 1 point for each. In our sample chart, the Sun is in Scorpio, and the Ascendant is in Capricorn. That means an additional 1 point for Water (Scorpio’s element) as well as for Earth (Capricorn’s element).
The final count is:
Earth – 5 points
Water – 4 points
Air – 3 points
Fire – 1 point
Your dominant element is Earth. Your secondary element is Water. Air and Fire are considered weak in you.
Use these correspondences:
CARDINAL – Aries, Capricorn, Libra, Cancer
FIXED – Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, Scorpio
MUTABLE – Sagittarius, Virgo, Gemini, Pisces
Capricorn having 3 players in it means 3 points for Cardinal.
Scorpio having 3 players in it means 3 points for Fixed.
Aquarius having 2 players in it means 2 points for Fixed.
Virgo having 1 player in it means 1 point for Mutable.
Libra having 1 player in it means 1 point for Cardinal.
Sagittarius having 1 player in it means 1 point for Mutable.
So far, Fixed leads with 5 points. Cardinal follows with 4 points. Mutable gets 2.
Now, identify the modality of your Sun and Ascendant. They are the most important parts of your natal chart. So add 1 point for each. In our sample chart, the Sun is in Scorpio, and the Ascendant is in Capricorn. That means an additional 1 point for Fixed (Scorpio’s modality) as well as for Cardinal (Capricorn’s modality).
The final count is:
Fixed – 6 points
Cardinal – 5 points
Mutable – 2 points
Your dominant modality is Fixed. Your secondary modality is Cardinal. Mutable is considered weak in you.
In a nutshell:
Fire means a passionate personality and an enthusiastic energy.
Earth means a practical personality and a grounded energy.
Air means a logical personality and an intellectual energy.
Water means an emotional personality and a spiritual energy.
Cardinal means an initiating attitude and an enterprising character.
Fixed means a determined attitude and a consistent character.
Mutable means a harmonious attitude and an adaptable character.
Since your dominant element is Earth, and your dominant modality is Fixed, it means that a sense of practicality and realism influences the choices you make in life. It also means that your determination will be your key to success, and that other people may think very highly of you because of your trustworthiness.

Dear Diana, i'm really interested in astrology and astronomy, but i've only recently started my way so i don't really know how to make my birth chart myself. Different websites tell me different rising and moon signs. I was wondering maybe you know any trustworthy natal chart websites? Thank you 😌

Requires you to download the app. It shows you an easy to understand table that illustrates your planet placements. Includes short and sweet explanations of your chart’s major components.
Hello Lady Diana thank u for your kindness and for this blog. I have an astrology question; when reading some birth charts I saw two w/ the same ascendant but in one of them there were intercepted planets and signs. I understood some changes in a general context of reading however I’m in doubt about how to interpret these interceptions because it seems that the houses are full of information that I shouldn’t ignore. Can u explain to me how to read this? (Sorry for my English I’m still learning)
An “intercepted” Zodiac sign is one that is fully enclosed inside a House. And an “intercepted” planet is one that is inside an intercepted Zodiac sign.
How does this happen?
Each Zodiac sign has 30 degrees. The same is not true for Houses. Depending on how far your birthplace is from the Equator, the sizes of your Houses will vary, because of the Earth’s axis.
Interception happens when you have a House that is over 30 degrees and is embracing an entire Zodiac sign.
That is the thing. Embracing. There is absolutely no problem with the act of embracing. It is a synonym for hugging. To be hugged is a wonderful feeling.
But instead of embracing, people use the term intercepting. Which, unlike hugging, is a bad word. Intercepting means seizing, halting, hindering. It is antagonistic in nature.
Except Houses are never antagonistic. Because Houses are areas. Places. Spaces. They are incapable of being malicious.
So when a House encloses a Zodiac sign and a planet, there is no harm being done to either. They are simply hugging each other. There is no act of “intercepting” that is actually happening.
Many astrologers claim that if you have an intercepted planet, you are unlucky. Because that planet’s powers are seized, halted, hindered.
This is impossible.
Planets are sources of power. They are the ones with the authority here. Houses are simply areas that they decide to visit. So claiming that a planet is intercepted is like claiming that a person suddenly loses his or her power when inside a big space such as a museum or a theater. Preposterous. In fact we feel freer. In a larger environment, we breathe easier.
So in truth, to have an “intercepted” planet only means that that planet is even more able than usual to give you blessings in the House it is visiting and in the Zodiac sign it is in.
If your Sun is “intercepted” in Scorpio, the only difficult experience you will have is finding someone who is better in bed than you.
And if your Mars is “intercepted” in the First House, your biggest challenge will be finding a partner who can love you more than you already do.
You are probably wondering, “If interceptions are not real, how come so many people believe in them?”
Well, at some point in time, the entire human population believed the Earth was flat. It did not make them right, did it?
I'm awed by your knowledge, dear Diana. You make the most complex things super easy to understand. And I laughed so much when I saw your astrology masterlist because the concepts that are so difficult for me to learn are under a heading called "The Basics" 😁 I felt bad for myself at first till I actually read them and saw that you did make them very simple to utilise. My question is do you have any advise for people who have very good placements and aspects? I'm somehow afraid I'll waste them ❣
Technically, there are no good or bad placements and aspects, because there are no good or bad planets to be placed and aspected.
The most feared ones, Mars, Pluto and Saturn, actually bestow some of the best gifts. Mars gives confidence, Pluto gives power, and Saturn gives fortitude.
Placements and aspects are better categorized as easy and hard.
Pluto in the First House, for example, is an easy placement. The First House is about valuing yourself, and Pluto is about empowering yourself. There is no clash. It creates people with great self-esteem.
While Neptune in Libra in the Seventh House is a hard placement. Because Neptune is kind, Libra likes harmony, and the Seventh House is all about other people. It creates individuals who are pushovers.
As for aspects, trines and sextiles are easy; squares and oppositions are hard; and conjunctions can be either, depending on the planets involved.
It is people who have hard placements and aspects that need to scrutinize those facets to make sure they rise above them.
Mars in Libra, for example, has a reputation for being a cheater. And whether your faith calls it karma, revenge, or the natural order of things, people who cheat eventually get punished. So those who have this placement should closely watch their actions, to avoid divine retribution.
And Jupiter square Saturn tends to have their luck cut short in just about any situation. So those who have this aspect should always devise a Plan B, C and D, to ensure that things still work out for them in the end.
But for people who have easy placements and aspects, you do not have to do anything. Except follow your heart, as cheesy as that sounds.
Because the benefits of your easy placements have been installed inside of you. Like a GPS that is always pointing you to the right direction.
The only thing I can advise is regular meditation. It is you yourself who can take you to your intended destination.

Navigating Tarot
One of the more popular forms of divination, tarot cards, can be both incredibly useful and complicated. There are special rules used by practitioners, some of which I’d like to talk about. In other words, this is a good general guide to getting started with tarot.
Connection
Connecting with your deck is incredibly important, and vital to your relationship with your cards. Keep in mind, your cards are their own entity. Having a weak relationship with them isn’t beneficial for either of you. Some great ways to connect with your deck are through meditation, spending time with them, asking questions, and just generally speaking not abusing them.
Cleanse
Not cleansing your deck can have serious consequences. Not only will it hurt your relationship with your deck, but your readings will be out of whack. Some of the most popular forms of cleansing are moonlight, smudging, and crystals. Any and all of these methods are great.
Simplicity
As a beginner, don’t do any sort of complicated spreads. I know it’s tempting; you just want to jump right in! Start with just one week in the very least of pulling a card from your deck each day and interpreting it; it increases your familiarity with the cards and their meanings. Personally, whenever I want information about the cards, I love to go to Biddy Tarot. See them here: https://www.biddytarot.com/tarot-card-meanings/
Respect
I’ve said it before, but again, your deck is its own entity. Treat it with the respect it deserves.
Journal, Journal, Journal
Every time you do a spread, I recommend jotting it down. It helps your growth significantly. Just include the date, deck used, spread, results, interpretation and your reflection.
Alternatives
I understand that this can be complicated if you’re in the broom closet; perhaps you can’t get a deck, or maybe you just feel uncomfortable practicing around others. If that’s the case, you can use playing cards! Here’s what I use in such a situation to help me: https://exemplore.com/fortune-divination/How-to-Read-Tarot-with-Playing-Cards

𝐎𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐙𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀 𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐌𝐎𝐈𝐑𝐄:
🍁A table of contents is a wonderful idea and can be a great help, but it really is up to you.
🍁Try and plan what you’re going to write down and when.
🍁You can write down every idea you have in a notebook aside first to organise and plan if you want (this is what I do but I do consider myself a little bit of a perfecionist haha)
🍁You can print out photos, dry out flowers and herbs, add stickers, doodle and more to decorate your Grimoire if you’d like. It makes it more personal, but in the end the most important thing is that you understand it.
🍁And remember that it is your Grimoire, try not to compare it to anyone else’s and remember that witchcraft is all about personalization. If you do not have a Grimoire that’s okay too, this is your craft and your rules♡
Like any other school of Magick, Divination uses many different methods in order to divine esoteric knowledge, including the past, present, and possible future.
Important note: It is important to remember that, no matter the type of divinatory practices used, no single person is able to tell the future. There are always variables at play that may change your future and your destiny. Divination simple says that, should things continue as they are, this is the most likely outcome of the situation.
In and around all things is a flow of energy. You can think of this flow of energy as the circle of life type of thing from Lion King. “The circle of life flows through us all”, or, like water: Water particles are everywhere, even in the air we breath, and is thus constantly in motion. Same with energy. Energy makes up the very fabric of our existence, making us connected to everything around us.
Here’s a witchy secret they don’t often bother to tell you: We are connected to this energy, and this energy is connected to all things. Energy, at its base, is information.
When we tap into this energy, we are able to see the information that the energy has to give us. Different diviners use different methods of tapping into this energy, but it’s all the same.
By no means is this list exhaustive. As mentioned before, there are many ways in which diviners practice divination. None is better than the other, and all accomplish basically the same thing. There are a few that I have dabbled in, and a lot that I have not.
The most common and well known form of divination is divining using a deck of cards, most commonly tarot. Among the cards are different sets of titles and imagery that is meant to invoke some sort of reaction from your intuition. The best way to work with the tarot, oracle, or any other deck of cards is allow the cards to speak to you, and not you for it. In other words, allow there to be a natural progression as you read the tarot, instead of forcing meanings where there may be none.
Runes are another form of divination that use ancient symbols housing esoteric wisdom to divine. According to the legends which I’ve read, the runes are Norse in origin, but the exact details of how they came to be is a mystery. It is said that they were sacred to the Norse goddess Freya, and were possibly even discovered by her. She then introduced then to Odin, the Allfather, god of war, and the greater mysteries. Odin, who became fascinated by them, hung himself in a tree to die a shamanic death, and was then reborn as Odin the Runemaster. At some point, it is rumored that Odin then gifted the runes to man.
Whatever the legends, the runes do have an energy all their own, but are not quite as easy as the tarot to read. They are symbols, ancient and unknown in origin, not pretty little colored images on a deck of cards. The best way to work with runes is to learn their general meaning, and allow them to expand their knowledge to you over time.
Scrying is another popular form of divination that uses a smooth, reflective surface in order to “See” images within the depths. Most commonly, crystal balls, black mirrors, and bowls of water are used.
This form of divination is difficult to master, and takes tremendous patience. Thus, I will not be able to go into further detail about this at present.
“Throwing bones” as it were. I’ve had more time to learn a little bit more about this, and I have a very basic understanding of how this form of divination works.
Osteomancy uses bones, preferably from small animals, as well as other shells, beads, and curios collective known as the “bones” thrown out onto a cloth to divine the future. Depending on where the bones land, the diviner is then able to use their meaning to paint a picture of the quarents future, past, and present.
I’ve read a few blog posts about this form, and it seems that, most commonly, osteomancers use what is known as “animism” the idea that everything has a spirit and is alive, in order to divine. While this may or may not be true, I believe that bone throwing employs the use to psychometry in order to decipher the bones.
Which brings me to my last point…
Psychometry is a powerful way to exercise your “Psychic muscles”, but it also takes a lot of patience to learn. Psychometry refers to the latent or inherent or learned ability to perceive residual information off of objects and/or people, usually by touch.
Psychometry is best practiced in one of two ways.
Collect various, preferably older items, such as necklaces, pocket watches, other small antiques, wood, shells, etc. Place all of the items under a cloth or under a bowl and then shuffle them around, making sure that you shuffle long enough for you to have no way of knowing where each item is. You then place your hand over the object, fell its energy, and try and divine what the object is. It’ll take time, but your accuracy will vastly improve, and you’ll find that other esoteric things come to you easily.
Find random objects such as old building bricks, signs, lampposts, antiques, etc. and place your hand on them. Close your eyes, and try to sense the object. See all of the memories that it houses within. Who did it belong to? What has it witnessed? Where did it come from? Eventually, you’ll begin to gain an understanding of the objects around you even without needing to touch them and close your eyes. Then, eventually, you’ll be able to divine a person’s past, present, and future using the same exact method, giving you yet another tool in your divinatory arsenal.
There are, of course, many MANY other methods that I missed. The ones I mentioned above are simply the ones that I personally have, so far, dabbled in. The tarot, of course, is my strongest practice, but others are working their way up there as well.
