While numerous studies have been conducted on the effects of captivity on other classes of vertebrates, very few studies have investigated the effects of captivity and its related stresses on amphibians. Chronic stress results in elevated levels of corticosterone (CORT) released from the adrenocortical cells, which in turn result in hyperglycemia, anorexia, and changes in behavior.

âDo you remember my name?â Gale asks him quietly, hesitantly. He thinks he wonât be angry, if John doesnât.
âGale. Cleven.â Johnâs breath is warm on Galeâs belly. âNever got the middle name, I donât think.â
âWinston.â
âCondolences.âÂ
Gale huffs a laugh. Johnâs hair looks soft, a little extra shiny with sweat and grease, but still nice-looking. Itâs soft under his fingers as he cautiously reaches out to touch it, brush through the strands carefully, thumb smoothing across Johnâs temple.Â

thinking about hollywood! clegan au đ€
John Egan is a beloved actor who had his big break 5ish years ago and been doing a steady stream of hit movies ever since, 2-3 a year over all genres
Hollywoodâs heartthrob but also a versatile actor whoâs amazing at talk shows, considered very cool but also your grandmaâs favorite celebrity
Has always been very private about his life outside of the films, always manages to make a joke out of everything when heâs (often) asked about his personal life, just wants to talk about his dog and whichever project heâs promoting
Heâs been connected to a bunch of singers and actors (he loves a good party and isnât aftaid of physical contact so heâs shipped with pretty much everyone he meets)
The absolute SHOCK that goes through entertainment world when he shows up to a premiere with a beautiful man on his arm
There are some speculations about this being another goof to get everyone confused but the picture of John looking at the man and rounding his arms around the his waist at any given moment on the red carpet go viral in relationship pages (theyâre used in the type of pics âif your man doesnât look at you like thisâŠâ)
Internet detectives quickly discover the manâs Gale Cleven, a publicist at the firm that represents Egan (not his publicist tho they keep work separate from their relationship)
Heâs considered one of the best in the industry but hates spotlight and has stayed away from the media completely so far
However⊠After dating for 5 years John popped the question and Gale said yes, and as a part of their deal with how to deal with all of that Gale allows Johnâs long-awaited dream of being able to scream his love from the rooftops
He wasnât kidding either, every single social media post after that is about how much he loves his fiancĂ©, and the wedding plans are pretty much all he wants to talk about in interviews as well (aside from their dog, of course)
The negative side of it is that the internet also starts to thirst after Johnâs man and it becomes a new widely shared joke, like everytime John goes to talk shows after that the questions are all centered around âHey, is your fiancĂ© single?â
John is a good sport about it but in private he takes any excuse to mark Gale as his, weather it was a seemingly carelessly placed hand on him any chance he gets or a hickey just visible over his collar and esp when they have sex John never shuts up anyway but now heâs particularly keen on reminding Gale he belongs to him
Gale doesnât care about the public attention one bit but he loves how happy John is about showing him off, and every time heâs nervous when theyâre photographed together John makes sure to make him laugh and relax even on red carpets when everyone is trying to get their attention
The one time they give an interview together the internet goes nuts because Gale is so shy but so sweet and John laughs at everything he says and the two of them are just so clearly smitten with each other people canât help but root for them
Itâs also clear form the interview that while Gale hasnât been at previous premiers or public outings heâs Johnâs workâs biggest fan/supporter, Johnâs telling some story about how they managed to keep their relationship secret while also living an active life like âOh and while I was doing promo for this project Gale lived in London with meâ and Buckâs always very nonchalantly like âNo actually it was for this project dearâ because heâs more aware of Johnâs work than he is and John will always tease him like âoh youâre right thank you baby youâre so smartâ and Gale would fail to hide his smile behind his hand
(additionals: johnâs insta â galeâs insta â how they met â media/friends instas â how they first said i love yous â domestic hcs â gale//red carpet look â troubles with media/fans â jealous bucky â pda video leaks â candid pics â discussions about going public+proposal â going viral during award season â buckâs reactionâs to bucky doing sex scenes â stalker attack â reunion â sickfic â stalker attack cont. â photoshoot â divorce rumors â fanfiction â short n sweet)
Is there any chance that bucky and buck would have dirty, disrespectful sex? Especially when either one would suddenly show up unannounced at the otherâs door after the war.
YES ANON THEY'RE HAVING NASTY DISRESPECTFUL SEX AS WE SPEAK I LOVE THIS
----
There's a knock on the door. Quiet, unabtrusive, almost like they don't want to be heard. Gale stalks towards the door and peers out of the peephole, breath catching when he sees John.
He's standing casually, leaning up against the door with his shirt sleeves rolled up and the top buttons unbuttoned. He looks good. He looks healthy.
Gale could take a bite out of him.
Gale blocks the entrance of the door with his body, crossing his arms and fixing John with the angriest stare he can manage.
"Should have called to let me know that you were coming," Gale mutters.
John chuckles, biting his lip and looking up through his coarse eyelashes.
"Come on, Gale. When do I ever call? You know that's not my style," John says and it's in that dangerous tone that gives away exactly what he's here for.
"Well, maybe it should be--" Gale starts before John shuts him up with his mouth, pushing Gale into the house and slamming the door with Gale's body pushed against it.
Gale's hands are rough in the front of John's shirt, wanting to rip, wanting to tear, but all he can focus on is John's rough and hot mouth on his. John's teeth are sharp on his lips, hands on his waist and holding the nape of his neck, pressing Gale somehow closer.
Gale wants to push, he wants to pull away, he wants John to kiss him harder and fuck him right there. It doesn't make sense, none of this makes sense, but he can't bring himself to stop when John's tongue is hot against his.
"I missed you," John grunts into Gale's lips, the hand around his waist messily undoing Gale's belt, pawing at his half hard cock.
Gale sighs, almost a growl as he fists John's hair, teeth gritted when John's lips find his again.
"Fucking show me then," Gale hisses.
John laughs almost, a breath of hot air against Gale's lips as he shoves Gale's pants down, hand still roughly palming him until he's fully hard and Gale's panting into John's mouth. He gets his hands on John's pants, shoves them down and grabs a handful of John's cock, breathing in the ragged sigh John lets out as he grinds into his hand. It's so easy with John, a flick of the wrist and a thumb dug into his slit and he's coming apart so easily, god Gale missed this.
Gale yelps when John hoists him up from the backs of his thighs, pressing him firm against the front door as his lips travel to Gale's neck, biting until almost pain at the protruding vein. Gale groans arms coming to wrap around John's shoulders, hands bunching into his shirt and hiking it up to his mid back.
"You're gonna fuck me against my front door? Want me so bad you can't even wait to get me to bed?" Gale whispers and curses quietly when he can feel John's cock hot and heavy at his entrance.
John bites down on Gale's shoulder, leaning his head up ever so slightly to whisper against Gale's jaw.
"Yeah, doll, can hardly keep my hands off of you. I'll get you to bed too, don't you worry, I ain't letting you go until I can't get it up anymore," John whispers and Gale bites his lip to prevent a moan from slipping out.
It shouldn't be this hot, with John's cock pressed against his hole, holding him up against the door and whispering nasty things into his ear, but Gale loves every second of it.
"Fuck me, John," Gale mutters and gasps when John spits in his hand, taking his length and pressing in slowly.
They don't have lube and Gale's not prepped, so John takes it nice and sweet as he pushes into him, waiting until he's fully seated and panting against Gale's jaw. Gale pants, hands gripping John's shirt tighter and he leans his head back against the wall, cursing at how tight and big John feels. Gale didn't realize quite how long he and John had been apart, and John is making up for it now, already starting to grind his hips forward into him.
Gale's legs tremble as John starts to pick up a rhythm, long and deep thrusts with only his spit to ease the slight burn, but it's so good when John tilts his head and kisses Gale open mouthed, deep and sensual as he fucks Gale against his front door.
Gale knows he's not going to last long, it's been months since he's been able to properly take his time, quick sessions in the shower as he hides his shame, and he can already feel his gut tightening when John groans in his mouth.
"Need you to come inside me, come on John, give it to me," Gale whispers, gasping when John tilts his hips up at just the correct angle.
John nods, panting into Gale's mouth as his thrusts get more uncoordinated, the bolt on the door shaking as he fucks Gale against it, god if someone were to come to the door they could probably hear Gale's mouth, would probably hear John's grunts. The thought causes Gale to shoot all over his stomach, a long and prolonged moan sang right into John's ear.
John comes not long after, pushing himself deep into Gale as he does, the warmth filling his insides deliciously. John shakily brings Gale's legs to the ground, holding him up by his waist as Gale trembles on his feet. John kisses him slow now, tongue still reaching for down his throat. Gale still feels hot, can feel his gut twitch even after he just came. He pulls away and looks at John with his ruddy cheeks and eager blue eyes.
"Why don't you take me to bed now, John?" Gale asks and smiles when he can see the instant heat in John's eyes.
Premiere - Callum discreetly grabbing Austins arm and Gary in the middle trying to get their attention but being ignored đđ

The countryside stretched out ahead of me, the narrow road winding through rolling green fields under a cloudless blue sky. My little car hummed along, but my mind was anything but calm. I tightened my grip on the steering wheel, the smooth leather warm under my palms, and tried to steady my breathing.
Callumâs text had been vague, which wasnât unusual for him. âJust get here by 10âyouâll see,â heâd said, like that was helpful. See what, exactly? The set? The cast? Austin? My stomach did a little flip at the thought of him, unbidden but not unwelcome.
I glanced down during a brief stop at a red light, frowning at my outfit for the hundredth time. Skinny jeans and a blouse in a light, summery fabric had felt like a safe choice at the timeâcasual, comfortableâbut now I wasnât so sure. Maybe I shouldâve gone for something a bit smarter, something that said, âYes, Iâm totally calm and not losing my mind over seeing a guy who may or may not like me back.â But then again, it was a TV set, not afternoon tea at the Ritz. Maybe Iâd overthought the whole thing.
What was I even going to say when I saw him? âHiâ felt too bland. A casual wave seemed awkward. A hug? Too presumptuous. I could practically hear Zaraâs voice in my head: âJust act normal. Unless you want him to think youâve completely lost it.â
Easier said than done.
The set came into view as I crested the hill, the sight taking my breath away for a moment. Massive WWII planes were parked across a sprawling airfield, their wings gleaming in the late-morning sun. Uniformed extras milled around in clusters, the scene alive with motion and noiseâa vintage time capsule brought to life.
And there, leaning against a battered army jeep like he owned the place, was Callum.
I blinked, my breath catching as I took him in. Dressed head-to-toe as a WWII pilot, his khaki uniform and tan leather jacket making him seem like heâd walked straight out of a history book. The aviator shades perched on his nose added to the effect, his relaxed grin making it clear he was enjoying himself far too much.
âYouâve got to be kidding me,â I muttered under my breath, pulling the car to a stop.
âAnge!â he called, his grin widening as I stepped out.
âBlimey,â he teased, sliding his sunglasses down just enough to peek over them. âYouâre actually here. Didnât think youâd make it past the nerves.â
I rolled my eyes, brushing a strand of hair out of my face. âYou look like youâve stepped out of a recruitment poster. Is that part of the job, or just your natural charm?â
âBit of both,â he said, straightening up and spreading his arms. âWhat do you think? Dashing, right?â
I snorted. âIâll give you âdashing,â but only because you look like youâre enjoying this far too much.â
âCan you blame me?â he said, climbing into the jeep with a practised ease. âCome on, hop in. Time to show you what all the fuss is about.â
I climbed into the passenger seat as Callum started the engine. The jeep rattled and bumped as we made our way toward the heart of the set, the air alive with activity. Crew members adjusted lighting rigs and sound equipment, extras chatted in their period-perfect uniforms, and the faint crackle of a loudspeaker cut through it all.
Callum brought the jeep to a stop, turning to me with a lopsided grin. âWelcome to 1944.â
I climbed out slowly, my feet hitting the ground as I turned in a slow circle, trying to take it all in. It was overwhelmingâthe scale of it, the detail, the way it felt like stepping into another world.
But none of that held my attention for long.
As we approached one of the planes, my eyes locked on a figure standing off to the side, arms crossed and his bomber jacket slung casually over one shoulder. Austin.
The sunlight caught his hair, the honeyed strands tousled in a way that looked effortlessly perfect. His uniform was just snug enough to hint at the broadness of his shoulders, and the toothpick perched between his lips gave him an easy, roguish charm.
My heart stuttered.
âAnge, you alright?â Callumâs voice broke through my thoughts, his teasing smirk firmly in place. âYouâre looking a bit⊠distracted.â
âShut up,â I muttered, quickly glancing away. But the heat creeping up my neck wasnât so easily ignored.
âCome on,â he said, motioning me to follow him toward the centre of the set. âThereâs a lot to see, and youâve got to make the most of it.â
I nodded, trying to focus on the planes, the costumes, the sheer scale of it all. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldnât stop myself from glancing back toward Austin.
And when his eyes finally met mine, my stomach flipped.
Austin pushed off from where he was leaning, his bomber jacket shifting with the movement, and started walking toward us. His steps were measured, unhurried, and every inch of him exuded the kind of easy confidence Iâd always envied but never mastered. The toothpick shifted in his mouth as a slow, lopsided smile curved his lips, and my pulse tripped over itself.
âCal,â he greeted with a nod before his gaze flicked to me. âAnge.â
âHey,â I managed, my voice coming out a touch higher than Iâd intended. I cleared my throat and tried again. âHi.â
Callum gave a low chuckle and clapped Austin on the back. âSheâs already starstruck, mate. Told you this would happen.â
âShut up, Callum,â I shot back, but my retort lacked any real bite. My attention was locked on Austin, who seemed entirely too amused by my flustered state.
âGlad you could make it,â Austin said, his voice softer now, the words settling somewhere in my chest.
âYeah, wouldnât miss it,â I replied, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear and cursing myself for how awkward I sounded.
âRight, enough standing around,â Callum said, clapping his hands together. âThereâs a lot to see, and not much time before Iâm due back in front of the camera.â
He led the way deeper into the set, Austin falling into step beside me. The air was alive with the hum of activityâcrew members shouting instructions, the clatter of equipment being moved, the distant drone of a plane engine starting up. It was overwhelming in the best way, like stepping straight into a time machine.
âThey really went all out,â I said, more to myself than anyone else, my eyes darting between the planes, the props, and the clusters of people in immaculate period costumes.
Austin glanced at me, his smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. âItâs something, isnât it?â
âSomethingâ didnât even begin to cover it. The sheer scale of it allâthe authenticity, the attention to detailâwas breathtaking.
A familiar voice cut through the hum of activity. âWell, well, look who it is.â
I turned just in time to see Anthony strolling toward us, his uniform looking pristine, though his cocky grin somewhat ruined the composed military effect. Behind him, Nate and Raff followed, all of them looking far too at home in their costumes.
âDidnât think weâd see you again so soon,â Nate said with a smirk.
âOh, come on,â Anthony added, âletâs be honestâweâre just impressed you survived all that tequila.â
I groaned. âIt wasnât that much.â
âEnough to make you very entertaining,â Raff teased. âBut fair play, you held your own.â
Austin hummed around his toothpick, eyes glinting with amusement. âShe did.â
I shot him a glare. âNot you too.â
Austin just grinned.
âI donât know whether to be proud or concerned,â I muttered.
âOh, be proud,â Anthony said, throwing an arm around my shoulders. âYou held your own, and more importantlyâyou provided the nightâs best entertainment.â
âYou lot are never going to let me live this down, are you?â
âNot a chance,â Callum said cheerfully.
Austinâs eyes were still on me, amusement lingering in his expression. âIt was a good night,â he said simply, and something about the way he said it sent a flicker of warmth through my chest.
âAlright,â Anthony said, shaking his head. âWeâve got a scene to shoot in a bit, but make sure she gets the full experience.â
âOh, she will,â Callum assured them.
Austin was quiet as the others wandered off, but I caught the brief glance he and Callum exchanged. Something was going on.
I folded my arms. âOkay. What was that about?â
Callum slung an arm around my shoulders and started walking me toward a row of trailers. âCome on, Ange. Just trust me.â
âThatâs exactly what I donât trust.â
But it was too lateâbefore I knew it, I was being ushered inside a trailer by two women holding hairbrushes and fabric swatches.
âYou must be Angie,â one of them said warmly. âCome on, love. Weâve got work to do.â
âWait, what?â I asked, glancing at Callum in alarm. âWhatâs happening?â
Callum grinned. âYouâre getting the full experience. Hair, makeup, wardrobeâthe works.â
I turned to Austin, hoping for an ally, but he only shrugged, his smile softening. âYouâll look great.â
âThatâs not the point!â I exclaimed, but the words lost their punch as the two women gently but firmly ushered me toward the makeup chair.
âRelax,â one of them said with a grin. âYouâre going to have fun.â
I wasnât so sure about that, but as they set to work curling my hair and pinning it into an intricate updo, their infectious enthusiasm started to chip away at my nerves. The wardrobe team bustled in next, handing me a simple but elegant 1940s-style dress that fit like it had been made for me.
By the time they were finished, I barely recognised myself in the mirror. The hair, the makeup, the dressâit all came together to transform me into someone who looked like they belonged on this set. My nerves hadnât disappeared entirely, but there was a flicker of excitement now, too.
When I stepped out of the trailer, Callum let out a low whistle. âBlimey, Ange. You clean up alright.â
I rolled my eyes, but my cheeks warmed under the weight of his gaze.
Then I looked at Austin.
He didnât say anything at first, just let his eyes sweep over me in a way that made my stomach flip all over again. When he finally spoke, his voice was softer than Iâd ever heard it. âYou look perfect.â
The words hung between us, warm and unexpected, and for a moment, everything elseâthe noise, the bustle, the nervesâfaded into the background.
âAlright,â Callum said, breaking the moment with a clap of his hands. âTime to get her on set.â
âOn set?â I echoed, my heart skipping a beat. âWhat do you mean, on set?â
âRelax,â Callum said, throwing an arm around my shoulders. âItâs just a walk-on part. Youâll stand in the background, maybe carry something, look like you belong. Easy.â
âCallum, I canâtâwhat if I mess it up?â
âYou wonât,â Austin said, his voice steady and reassuring. âJust think of it like this: youâre not playing a partâyouâre just you. Well, you in the 1940s.â
âThatâs not helpful,â I muttered, but the warmth in his gaze eased some of the tension in my chest.
âYouâll be great,â he said simply. But I wasn't sure I believed him.
By the time Callum led me toward the soundstage, my nerves had officially kicked into overdrive. The sheer scale of the set had been overwhelming enough, but the idea of stepping in front of the cameraâeven just as a background extraâmade my stomach churn.
It wasnât a big deal. I wasnât expected to act. I just had to exist in the background, blend into the world theyâd created. Easy, right?
Except all I could think about was how one wrong moveâa misplaced step, an accidental glance at the cameraâcould ruin the take and waste everyoneâs time. Time that costs actual money.
I stopped in my tracks just outside the set, my breath catching in my throat. âCallum, I canât do this.â
He turned back, raising a brow. âAnge, itâs not that deep. Youâre literally walking through a scene.â
âExactly! Which means I have to walk properlyânot too fast, not too slow, donât bump into anyone, donât look at the camera, donât trip over my own feetââ
Austinâs voice cut through my spiralling thoughts. âHey.â
I turned, startled. I hadnât even noticed him slipping away from the others.
He tipped his head toward a quieter corner of the set. âCome here.â
I hesitated, glancing between him and Callum. My best friend just smirked, clearly seeing right through my hesitation, before giving me a little shove in Austinâs direction.
I followed Austin toward a quiet space behind one of the prop walls, away from the main bustle of crew and cast. He leaned a shoulder against the wall, studying me in that steady way of his.
âYouâre overthinking,â he said simply.
I let out a shaky breath. âI justâwhat if I mess up? What if I walk the wrong way and ruin the take? What if Iââ
âAngie.â His voice was warm, patient, like he could hear every anxious thought bouncing around in my head. âYou wonât.â
I scoffed. âHow do you know that?â
His lips twitched. âBecause I used to be you.â
I frowned. âWhat?â
His gaze softened. âWhen I first started as an extraâwhen I was, like, twelveâI was terrified of messing up. Everyone else seemed to know exactly what they were doing, and I felt like an imposter just standing there. So you know what I did?â
I shook my head.
âI gave myself a backstory,â he said. âI wasnât just some random kid in the backgroundâI was part of the world. If the scene was in a diner, I imagined I was waiting for my dad to get off his shift. If it was a school scene, I pretended I was late for class. Something simple. Something that made me feel like I belonged.â
He let that sink in before continuing, his voice quieter now. âYou love history, right? You know this world. So donât think about the cameras or the set or any of that. Justâmake up a story. Imagine youâre really here.â
I swallowed hard, the nerves still there, but shifting. Make up a story. Imagine I belong.
Something about the way he said itâso certain, so effortlessâmade it seem possible.
A thought flickered in my mind, soft at first, then settling deep in my chest.
I already knew the story I wanted to tell.
âMy nan,â I said, my voice quieter now.
Austin tilted his head. âYeah?â
âShe used to talk about the Americans in London during the war,â I explained. âShe worked in a factory, but she and her friends would go out dancing whenever they could. She said the Americans always knew how to have a good time.â
A small, nostalgic smile tugged at my lips. âShe called them âtrouble with good hair.ââ
Austin huffed a soft laugh, but his expression was warm. âSounds like she had some fun.â
âShe did,â I said. âShe always said those nights were some of the best of her life. Even in the middle of a war, they still found ways to celebrate.â
Austin nodded, like he understood. âSo, be her.â
I blinked at him.
His voice was steady, sure. âFor the scene. Pretend youâre her. Youâre just a girl on an airbase, surrounded by pilots celebrating their latest mission. Youâre laughing with your friends, soaking it all in. No cameras, no crewâjust a moment in time.â
I let the idea settle, the edges of my nerves softening. Be Connie. Be my nan.
I took a deep breath. âOkay.â
Austinâs smile was small but proud. âOkay.â
He pushed off the wall, giving my hand a brief, reassuring squeeze before leading me back toward the others.
As I stepped onto the set, the nerves didnât vanish completely, but they felt different nowâsmaller, quieter. I wasnât just Angie, the panicked background extra.
For just a little while, I was Connie.
And I belonged here.
As soon as the director called cut, the tension I hadnât even realised I was holding drained from my body. I let out a slow breath, still half-expecting someone to rush over and tell me Iâd ruined the entire shot. But instead, the crew was already resetting for another take, the energy on set shifting smoothly around me like a well-oiled machine.
I had done it. I had walked through a scene, kept my nerves in check, andâmost importantlyâhadnât tripped over anything.
A small burst of triumph flickered in my chest.
Callum was the first to reach me, his grin absolutely insufferable as he draped an arm around my shoulders. âWell, well, well. Look at you, Miss Hollywood.â
âOh, shut up.â
âNo, really. Very convincing stuff,â he said, voice dripping with faux sincerity. âThat whole standing in the background thing? Mesmerising.â
I shoved his arm off, rolling my eyes. âI hate you.â
Austin appeared beside him then, hands tucked into his pockets, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. âTold you youâd be fine.â
I exhaled, shaking my head. âYeah, yeah. You win.â
Callumâs brows shot up. âWait, Austin helped with the nerves? Not me?â
Austin barely looked at him. âIâm more persuasive.â
I let out a laugh, shaking my head. âHe told me to make up a backstory, so Iââ I hesitated, my gaze flicking to Austin before I continued. âI pretended I was my nan. When she used to go out dancing with the Americans during the war.â
Austinâs smirk softened into something more genuine. âLooked like you belonged.â
My stomach did a small, ridiculous flip. I covered it by rolling my eyes. âWell, I wouldnât go that far.â
Callum, however, did go that far. âOh, mate, donât say that. Next thing you know, sheâll be trying to get a speaking role.â
âPlease.â I scoffed. âThat was a one-time thing.â
Callum grinned, slinging an arm back around my shoulders as he started walking us toward the trailers. âWeâll see about that.â
The excitement from the scene still buzzed through me as Callum led us outside, back to the battered army jeep heâd picked me up in earlier.
The jeep rumbled to life beneath us, the engineâs low growl blending into the hum of activity on set. Callum had thrown on his flying jacket before climbing into the driverâs seat, looking even more the part now with the shearling collar turned up against the breeze. Austin, already wearing his, had wrapped a faded blue scarf loosely around his neck, the ends tucked into his bomber jacket.
I really needed to stop staring at him.
Callum gave the wheel a sharp twist, swinging us around toward the far side of the airfield where one of the B-17s stood waiting. âTime for the real tour,â he said, flashing me a grin before accelerating down the narrow path.
The ride was bumpy, the jeep jostling over uneven ground, but the view made up for it. Massive aircraft loomed on either side, their metal frames gleaming under the midday sun, while extras in full uniform moved between them like ghosts of another time. The scent of oil and earth mixed with something distinctly old, like history had settled deep into the bones of this place.
Austin sat beside me in the back, one arm slung casually over the side of the jeep. The toothpick was still in his mouth, rolling between his lips as he watched the set pass by. My eyes kept catching on itâon the way his lips shifted around it, on the slow, almost absent-minded way he worked it between his teeth. It was stupid, how distracting it was. Just a stupid sliver of wood.
âYou good?â Austin asked suddenly, glancing over.
I blinked, realising Iâd been staring. Again. âYeah. Just⊠taking it all in.â
His mouth curved slightly, the toothpick shifting. âItâs a lot.â
That was an understatement.
The jeep rolled to a stop beside the B-17, its massive silver hull towering above us. The crew had done a meticulous job on the aircraftâthe detailing, the weathering, even the scuffed edges of the metalâit all looked authentic, like this thing had been through actual missions.
Callum hopped out first, stretching with a satisfied sigh. âNow, Ange, I know youâre desperate to see inside, so letâs make it happen.â
Austin was already moving ahead. He climbed the ladder with ease, disappearing inside the plane like heâd done it a hundred times before. A few seconds later, his voice echoed down. âCome on up.â
I was still looking at the ladder, debating the logistics, when Callum clapped me on the back. âOh, right. Forgot to mentionâonly two seats.â
I turned to him. âOkayâŠ?â
He smirked. âMeans youâll have to sit on his lap.â
âWhat? No.â
âOh, definitely. Up you go,â Callum said, motioning toward the ladder.
I opened my mouth to argue, but Austinâs head popped out from the hatch, brows raised. âWe doing this or what?â
I hesitated for a fraction of a second before gripping the rungs and climbing up after him. The metal was warm beneath my palms, the scent of fuel and aged leather thick in the air as I pulled myself into the cockpit.
Austin was already in the pilotâs seat, adjusting the straps of his harness out of habit. The space was tightâcramped with dials, levers, and panels that looked intimidatingly complex.
I barely had time to take it all in before Callum hauled himself up behind me, taking one glance at the two seats and smirking.
Austin shifted, looking up at me with an unreadable expression. His toothpick rested at the corner of his mouth, and for some reason, my eyes kept getting stuck thereâon the movement of it, on his lips.
It took me a second to process that heâd already reached for my hand, steadying me as I awkwardly climbed over and lowered myself onto his lap, my back pressing against the solid warmth of his chest.
Austin shifted, his arms moving to rest lightly on either side of me as he reached for the controls. âComfy?â
âI wouldnât go that far,â I said, determined to sound unaffected.
His breath brushed against my ear as he leaned forward slightly. âWelcome to your first flight lesson.â
The words sent a shiver down my spine.
Callum, of course, had zero sympathy. âOh, you two look cosy.â
âShut up, Callum,â I muttered.
There was a beat of silence before Austin reached past me to gesture at the controls. âThis is the throttle. Thatâs the altimeter. And thisââ His fingers brushed over a switch, his voice dropping. âThis oneâs just for looking impressive.â
I huffed out a laugh, forcing myself to focus. âSounds very official.â
âMm.â His breath was warm against my cheek. âVery.â
Callum turned in his seat, oblivious to my internal crisis. âYou two look like a proper flight crew. Maybe I should get a picture.â
âNo,â I said immediately.
âYes,â Austin said at the same time.
Callum was already digging for his phone.
I turned my head to glare at Austinâa mistake, because now our faces were inches apart.
The smirk on his lips deepened, his voice barely above a murmur. âYou good?â
No. No, I was absolutely not good.
I forced a nod, ignoring the warmth spreading through my chest. âTotally fine.â
If Callum noticed the tension, he didnât commentâjust took a few photos, grinning at his own handiwork before finally declaring, âAlright, letâs get out before we break something expensive.â
We climbed down from the plane, the metal rungs warm under my hands as I carefully stepped onto solid ground again. The second my feet hit the tarmac, I turned to Austin with a smirk.
âDo they pay you extra for that, or is it just for the aesthetic?â I nodded toward the ever-present toothpick between his lips.
Austin grinned, plucking it from his mouth and twirling it between his fingers. âYou donât like it?â
âOh no, I think itâs very method,â I teased. âReally completes the whole tortured-pilot look.â
Callum snorted as he hopped into the jeep. âHeâs been doing it since boot camp. At this point, I think itâs just stuck there.â
Austin flicked the toothpick at him, narrowly missing his shoulder before sliding in beside me. âIt helps me think.â
I raised a sceptical brow. âThink about what?â
He considered for a second before slotting another between his lips. âLots of things.â
âProfound,â I deadpanned, earning a laugh from Callum as he started the engine.
Callum drove us across the set once more, the jeep bouncing over the tarmac as we neared a large hangar-like structure where the partially built plane sets were housed. From the outside, it wasnât much to look atâjust a nondescript industrial buildingâbut the moment we stepped inside, I understood why this was saved for last.
Two sections of a B-17 sat on the floor, both open at strange angles like theyâd been cut straight out of history. One was just the cockpit, set on a massive steel frame, while the other was a larger chunk of the fuselage with an exposed belly turret. The air smelled of sawdust and metal, with crew members adjusting rigging and camera mounts.
Callum gestured toward the cockpit first. âThis is the one we use for the interior flight scenes,â he explained. âItâs mounted on a gimbal, so when they need turbulence, the whole thing tilts and shakes, nearly twenty feet in the air.â
I tipped my head back, my stomach flipping slightly at the sight of it. âThatâs mildly terrifying.â
âYeah, you get used to it,â Austin said, his voice lined with amusement. He tapped the metal framework of the lower fuselage, where a ladder led up into the cramped space. âThis oneâs mostly for the actors to move throughâgetting to their positions, action shots. No fancy hydraulics.â
Nearby, a large whiteboard was propped up against a workbench, a list of character names was scrawled across it, each followed by a series of numbers. I stepped closer, scanning the list. âWhatâs this?â
âOh,â Callum said, following my gaze. âThatâs the competition.â
I turned to look at him. âCompetition?â
Austinâs voice carried the hint of a challenge. âFastest time from the floor to the cockpit.â
I scanned the numbers, my eyes landing on Callumâs nameâEgan, 8.8 seconds. Then I saw AustinâsâCleven, 5.5 seconds.
I glanced up at Austin, who was watching me with a lopsided grin. â5.5 seconds?â
He rolled the toothpick between his lips. âI got good at it.â
âYou got competitive about it,â Callum corrected.
Austin shrugged, the picture of nonchalance.
I looked back at the hatch, taking in the cramped opening. âAnd you have to climb in through that? Like, full gear, under pressure?â
âThatâs the job,â Austin said.
A nearby crew member strolled past and overheard. âYou want to see him do it?â
Austin sighed but was already rolling his shoulders, and lowering himself to the floor. âGuess Iâm doing it.â
I crossed my arms, curiosity getting the better of me. âGo on, then. Show me what all the fuss is about.â
Austin shot me a quick smirk, then, without hesitation, grabbed the edge of the hatch and hoisted himself in. The bulky bomber jacket and harness didnât slow him downâhe moved with practiced ease, twisting his body through the narrow opening in one fluid motion. His boots barely made a sound as he disappeared into the cockpit, like heâd done it a thousand times before.
Callum checked his phone. âSix seconds.â
Austinâs voice echoed from inside. âBullshit.â
The crew member called back, laughing. âNah, mate, that was closer to five.â
I shook my head, still staring at the hatch. âThat was ridiculous.â
Austin reappeared, bracing one hand against the frame as he leaned out slightly. The toothpick in his mouth shifted as he grinned down at me. âThatâs why Iâm the best.â
I rolled my eyes. âI think I need a second opinion.â
Callum clapped a hand on my shoulder. âOh, Ange, thereâs no contest. The ladâs got it.â
Austin hopped down from the ladder, landing lightly beside me. âTold you.â
I exhaled sharply, shaking my head as Austin adjusted his jacket like he hadnât just scaled the plane in full gear like it was nothing. âAlright, fine. You win this round.â
His smirk deepened, the toothpick shifting between his lips again. âI usually do.â
I rolled my eyes, but it was mostly to cover the fact that my brain was still struggling to function properly after watching that. âYeah, well⊠doesnât mean Iâm impressed.â
Austin let out a soft hum, like he wasnât buying it for a second. Then, just to make matters worse, he winkedâcasual, effortless, devastating.
My stomach flipped.
I turned away, fully prepared to pretend none of that had just happened, but Callum was already looking at me with far too much amusement. I pointed a warning finger at him. âNot a word.â
He held his hands up in surrender, but the smirk on his face told me heâd absolutely be bringing this up later.
âAlright,â Austin said, straightening. âI gotta head over to rehearsal.â
Callum clapped him on the back. âYeah, yeah, weâll get out of your way.â
Austinâs gaze flicked back to me for half a secondâjust long enough to make me feel like he wanted to say something elseâbefore he gave me a small nod and turned to go.
Callum nudged me toward the jeep. âCome on, Ange. Letâs get you out of that dress before you combust.â
I climbed in, still feeling a little unsteady, and Callumâof courseâwaited exactly three seconds before glancing over with a knowing look.
âShut up, Callum.â
He laughed, revving the engine. âDidnât say a thing.â
But as we drove back toward the trailers, I could still feel the warmth of Austinâs gaze lingering on my skin.
By the time Callum came to fetch me from the trailers, I was back in my regular clothes, my hair still holding remnants of its 1940s curls. It felt strange stepping out of the past and back into reality, but the day wasnât over yet.
âTheyâve wrapped,â he said, leaning against the doorframe with that ever-present smirk. âAustinâs with meâfigured weâd grab you on the way.â
I followed him outside, where the jeep was parked once again. Austin was already sitting in the passenger seat, arms folded, now in his own clothesâjust a simple white t-shirt and black Adidas tracksuit bottoms, his hair slightly messier than it had been all day. His head turned when he heard me approach, his eyes flicking over me in a way that made my stomach do something ridiculous.
âBack in the modern world,â he said, amusement threading through his voice.
âAlmost,â I replied, tucking a curl behind my ear. âIâve spent most of the afternoon picking peopleâs brains about costumes, hair, and makeup.â
Callum shot me a look as I climbed into the back seat. âYouâre joking.â
âNope,â I said, grinning. âYou know I love getting the details right.â
Austin twisted slightly to glance at me. âFor your writing?â
I hesitated for a fraction of a second before nodding. âYeah. I mean, itâs exactly the time period Iâm writing about, so the way everythingâs put togetherâit helps.â
His lips twitched, a small but genuine smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. âThatâs smart.â
I felt my face heat slightly, but thankfully, Callum chose that moment to rev the engine and pull onto the road, saving me from having to respond.
The drive back to the cast accommodation was easy, the three of us slipping into a comfortable rhythm, mostly Callum telling stories about mishaps on set. By the time we arrived, the sun was starting to dip, casting long golden streaks across the sky.
Austin hopped out first, stretching his arms above his head before turning toward his house. He hesitated for a moment, then glanced back at me.
âHey,â he said, quieter now. âYou did good today.â
I exhaled a small laugh. âYou mean I walked convincingly? Groundbreaking.â
His mouth quirked. âI mean you didnât let it get to you. You belonged there.â
Something in my chest tightened at that, warm and unexpected. I bit my lip, then nodded. âThanks. And, you know⊠for earlier. Helping me get out of my own head.â
His eyes lingered on mine for a beat, something unreadable in them. Then he gave me a small nod, one that felt heavier than it should, before turning and disappearing inside.
I barely had a second to process the moment before Callum nudged me toward his house.
âInside,â he said, dragging me along. âBefore you start overthinking whatever that was.â
âI wasnâtââ
âYou were.â
I sighed but followed him inside, ignoring the way my thoughts still lingered on Austinâs parting words.
Callum and I sat across from each other at the small kitchen table in his rental, the remnants of dinner between usâpasta, because neither of us had the energy for anything more complicated. The atmosphere was easy, familiar, but my mind was still buzzing from the day.
Callum pushed his empty plate away, stretching out in his chair with an air of satisfaction. âNot bad, huh? Iâd say my cooking skills are improving.â
I snorted. âBoiling pasta and opening a jar of sauce isnât cooking.â
âWow. Ungrateful,â he muttered, shaking his head. âNext time, you can cook.â
I smirked, taking a sip of my drink. âNext time I will.â
The comfortable silence that followed was filled with the low hum of the fridge and the occasional scrape of a fork against a plate. I let myself relax into it, my mind still replaying the day over and over. The tour, the costumes, the planes, the walk-on part. The moment I had thought would be the most terrifying had turned out to be one of the most exhilarating, and now, sitting here, it all felt a little surreal.
I set my glass down, glancing at Callum. âI still canât believe you pulled all of that together.â
He looked up, brows raised. âPulled what together?â
âThe tour, the set experience, getting me into costumeââ I gestured vaguely, still half in disbelief. âYou made today one of the coolest things Iâve ever done.â
Callum grinned. âWell, youâre welcome.â
I narrowed my eyes. Something about the way he said thatâŠ
I tilted my head. âYou look too smug.â
âI always look smug.â
âYeah, but this is worse than usual.â I squinted at him. âWhat arenât you telling me?â
Callum hesitated just long enough for me to latch onto it.
âWhat?â I demanded, leaning forward. âWhat is it?â
He took a long sip of his drink, drawing it out, before finally exhaling a sigh. âAlright, fine. I didnât plan the whole thing.â
I frowned. âWhat do you mean?â
He smirked, taking a sip of his drink before setting it down with an infuriating amount of nonchalance. âI just set up the tour. You should really be thanking Austin.â
I blinked. âWhat?â
Callum shrugged like it was obvious. âI told him you were coming, figured weâd just show you around, but the rest? The costume, the walk-on part, getting you into the cockpitâthat was all him.â
I stared at him, trying to process that. âYouâre telling me Austin arranged all of that?â
âYep.â
âThe same Austin who barely knows me?â
Callum snorted. âStarting to think thatâs not entirely true.â
I opened my mouth, then closed it, my thoughts racing. âBut⊠why would heââ
âOh, come on, Ange.â Callum leaned forward, smirking. âYou really need me to spell it out for you?â
I ignored the way my stomach did an inconvenient little flip at that. I ignored the way my heart had started thudding a little harder in my chest, the warmth creeping up my neck.
Callum didnât push. For once, he just watched me, the teasing edge in his smirk fading into something softer. Like he was waiting for me to catch up to something heâd already figured out.
I swallowed, my fingers curling slightly against the edge of the table. The warmth in my chest, the nervous energy buzzing under my skinâit had been there all day, hadnât it? Not just today. Before that, too. In the bookshop. At brunch. Even before that, when he first walked into my flat with Callum, all slow smiles and careful attention.
I had spent so much time trying not to read into things, convincing myself it was nothing. But now, sitting here, with Callum watching me like he knew exactly what was running through my head, I couldnât ignore it anymore.
I exhaled slowly, shaking my head, more at myself than anything. âI need to thank him.â
Callum hummed, something amused and knowing in his expression. âYeah, you do.â
I pushed back from the table, standing abruptly. Callum didnât say anything as I grabbed my phone and shoved it in my pocket. Didnât smirk, didnât tease. Just watched, like he knew this was a moment I had to reach on my own.
I hesitated for half a second, fingers gripping the back of my chair, then turned for the door.
I wasnât thinking anymore. I was just moving.

@hogans-heroesâ last fic (So it goes) as well as our little chat đ„° reminded me of how we talked about an au of our bb buckies au with @alienoresimagines đ a while ago
While the main au is meant to be full of fluff and cute moments between baby buckies, chick and the 100th, the stalag version was more ⊠angsty (too much fluff required angst to balance it out đ)
In the original au, both Buckies became children (7 and 4), but here it's only Gale.
(also known as How the 100th POWs learn about Gale's very bad childhood)
Gale becomes a 4-year-old child after his fight with Bucky (to make the situation even more angsty).
After the fight, they're directly called away and haven't had time to talk about what just happened, and so neither of them knows how the fight affected the other.
You can imagine everyone's surprise when the next day, instead of their Major Cleven, they find a young child hiding under the covers, tears in his eyes.
After a moment of panic because âhow did a child get in here?â, âwhat are they going to do? â, âand... and... and....â, Bucky approaches and asks him his name.
The answer is a shy little âMy name is Gale đ„șâ
It only takes 30 seconds for everyone in the barracks to adopt him on the spot (it could have taken less time, but they blue-screened at the information)
After that, you've got a baby!Gale who imprints on Bucky like a duckling and follows him around, stars in his eyes and all shy.
Baby!Gale who sees Bucky's broken nose and shyly asks him with his cute kitten eyes if Bucky âwants him to kiss it better? because Marge's mom says it makes everything betterâ
Mainly, it's about baby!Gale, who's good as gold all day, never complains and helps everyone (4 dead and 10 injured with his cute little face).
That's the fluff, now let's move on to the angst
Even if they think it's cute and are happy baby!Gale doesn't misbehave (especially in the stalag), there's also something rather unsettling about it
Baby!Gale is too well-behaved. He doesn't cry (too much) or make a scene when he's handed over to strangers (and they're aware that they don't look the most welcoming in this situation and would normally make kids cry more than they'd make them want to be around them, they're POWs, for heaven's sake). He didn't say anything about waking up in an unfamiliar place. He didn't cry at all. Oh yes, he had tears in his eyes, but he didn't scream or make a scene. He didn't say anything about the lack of food or the cold. There's something wrong with how he behaves
At the end of the day, when Gale has been sweet and helpful all day, they ask him if he wants a little something. They expected him to ask for some chocolate (they don't have any but will have negotiated it with another bunkhouse) or the small meatball figurine (the one he spent all day looking at) like kid would normally do.
But instead he asked quite shyly as if expecting to hear them laugh and say no, if his Bucky can hold his hand (or if Gale can sit on his lap) đ„ș
And Bucky makes sure to show him that it's not a problem at all and uses it as an excuse to always have him in his lap. The others don't know who likes it more (the answer is both đ€đ„°).
TW: child abuse
****
With Gale's dad being a bad parent and gambling a lot (in this au), it goes like this:
Just before going to sleep Buck asks Bucky, âHow much did he sell me?â.
Bucky, completely lost, asks what Buck is talking about.
âDad, he always said he'd sell me if I didn't behave...â he pauses before adding âbut that's okay, I'd rather be with you Buckyâ
While Bucky is completely shocked, doesn't know how to react or say and tries with all his might not to burst into tears.
Which also made everyone realize why Gale wasn't all that shocked to wake up surrounded by strangers (and it made everyone cry)
****
Baby!Gale dreaming of his adult life (and his fight with Bucky) đ
âAre you mad at me Bucky?â
âOh, baby, I could never be mad at you, why did you say that?â
âIn my dream, you were angry and I hit you and I'm sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I didn't mean to đđđâ and Buck bursts into tears.
âOh, no, no, no sweetie, I promise I'm not mad at you. I'm sorry if I scared you, baby. Come here.â
As they curl up on Bucky's bunk, baby!Buck carefully protected in his arms, Bucky can't help but think that he's never felt more alive in the last few months than during the last days when baby!Gale was looking at him as if he'd hung the stars.
After a moment, Gale softly adds âbut it still hurtsâ and Bucky freezes and starts to panic because what does Gale mean when he says it still hurts? It shouldn't hurt because Buck isn't hurt, right? Bucky'd know if he was, right?
âWhere does it hurt, Buck?â
âHere,â and when Bucky looks, he finds a big bruise on Buck's torso/ribs (and some others because of POW's life).
âSince when did it hurts baby?â
âWhen I arrived.â And that's when Bucky realizes that their fight has left more marks than he thought.
âOh, Buck baby, why didn't you say something?â
âDaddy doesn't like when I complain.â
The whole bunkhouse tries to hold back their tears and fails miserably when they overhear the Buckies' conversation.
Bucky trying really hard to be strong for his little Buck when he doesn't know whether he wants to scream, hit someone or lock Buck up to protect him from all possible evils (in the end, he decides to hold him tight and carefully).
Also the stress of hiding baby!Buck from the guards (their little sunshine in need of comfort đ„č).
And for extra angst, if the de-ageing is caused by a lot of stress, Bucky would feel so guilty because it means Gale was suffering and he didn't see anything đđđđ
If you've been through the angst, here's a little more fluff for you
Baby!Buck beaming every time he's called Buck because it's like his Bucky đ„°
Can you imagine how many times the adults had to turn around to calm down after Buck did something because "he was so damn cute"? So many cuteness agressions
Gale taking Bucky in his mouth while prepping himself at the same time. I wonder how Bucky would react to the mental image..
this I'm absolutely obsessed with this anon I'm foaming at the mouth thinking about this image
but Gale is always so good about taking his pleasure from John bcs he also genuinely likes to suck John off but he'll be touching himself the entire time as well, a hand on his cock or rubbing at his chest, he just gets so so turned on by John's cock in his mouth and hey the oral fixation is kinda going crazy lmao
and maybe he'll lean against John's thighs, John's hand in his hair pushing him down until he's gagging on it and he reaches a hand back and moans around John's cock as he teases himself with a finger and John comes undone at the sight of it, Gale with his mouth stuffed full and his eyebrows screwed up in pleasure when he puts a finger inside himself, eyes also laser focused on John as he does it
maybe Gale is hashtag domming John and he's not letting John prep him so he does it himself while he's sucking the life out of John, he told him before he got on his knees that John wasn't allowed to touch, he could only watch, and maybe John whines so prettily because he wants to touch, he wants to be the one making Gale feel good but it's Gale doing it to himself, Gales doing it all and he makes sure to let John know that he's taking all of this pleasure for himself, maybe he tied John's hands behind his back so he definitely couldn't touch
maybe Gale comes from just his fingers and Johns cock in his mouth and through all of the teasing, John doesn't even get to come :(( Gale's so mean
