Stalag AU (BB Buckies)

@hogans-heroes’ last fic (So it goes) as well as our little chat 🥰 reminded me of how we talked about an au of our bb buckies au with @alienoresimagines 😘 a while ago

While the main au is meant to be full of fluff and cute moments between baby buckies, chick and the 100th, the stalag version was more … angsty (too much fluff required angst to balance it out 😉)

In the original au, both Buckies became children (7 and 4), but here it's only Gale.

(also known as How the 100th POWs learn about Gale's very bad childhood)

Gale becomes a 4-year-old child after his fight with Bucky (to make the situation even more angsty).

After the fight, they're directly called away and haven't had time to talk about what just happened, and so neither of them knows how the fight affected the other.

You can imagine everyone's surprise when the next day, instead of their Major Cleven, they find a young child hiding under the covers, tears in his eyes.

After a moment of panic because “how did a child get in here?”, “what are they going to do? ”, “and... and... and....”, Bucky approaches and asks him his name.

The answer is a shy little “My name is Gale 🥺”

It only takes 30 seconds for everyone in the barracks to adopt him on the spot (it could have taken less time, but they blue-screened at the information)

After that, you've got a baby!Gale who imprints on Bucky like a duckling and follows him around, stars in his eyes and all shy.

Baby!Gale who sees Bucky's broken nose and shyly asks him with his cute kitten eyes if Bucky “wants him to kiss it better? because Marge's mom says it makes everything better”

Mainly, it's about baby!Gale, who's good as gold all day, never complains and helps everyone (4 dead and 10 injured with his cute little face).

That's the fluff, now let's move on to the angst

Even if they think it's cute and are happy baby!Gale doesn't misbehave (especially in the stalag), there's also something rather unsettling about it

Baby!Gale is too well-behaved. He doesn't cry (too much) or make a scene when he's handed over to strangers (and they're aware that they don't look the most welcoming in this situation and would normally make kids cry more than they'd make them want to be around them, they're POWs, for heaven's sake). He didn't say anything about waking up in an unfamiliar place. He didn't cry at all. Oh yes, he had tears in his eyes, but he didn't scream or make a scene. He didn't say anything about the lack of food or the cold. There's something wrong with how he behaves

At the end of the day, when Gale has been sweet and helpful all day, they ask him if he wants a little something. They expected him to ask for some chocolate (they don't have any but will have negotiated it with another bunkhouse) or the small meatball figurine (the one he spent all day looking at) like kid would normally do.

But instead he asked quite shyly as if expecting to hear them laugh and say no, if his Bucky can hold his hand (or if Gale can sit on his lap) 🥺

And Bucky makes sure to show him that it's not a problem at all and uses it as an excuse to always have him in his lap. The others don't know who likes it more (the answer is both 🤭🥰).

With Gale's dad being a bad parent and gambling a lot (in this au), it goes like this:

Just before going to sleep Buck asks Bucky, “How much did he sell me?”.

Bucky, completely lost, asks what Buck is talking about.

“Dad, he always said he'd sell me if I didn't behave...” he pauses before adding “but that's okay, I'd rather be with you Bucky”

While Bucky is completely shocked, doesn't know how to react or say and tries with all his might not to burst into tears.

Which also made everyone realize why Gale wasn't all that shocked to wake up surrounded by strangers (and it made everyone cry)

Baby!Gale dreaming of his adult life (and his fight with Bucky) 😭

“Are you mad at me Bucky?”

“Oh, baby, I could never be mad at you, why did you say that?”

“In my dream, you were angry and I hit you and I'm sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I didn't mean to 😭😭😭” and Buck bursts into tears.

“Oh, no, no, no sweetie, I promise I'm not mad at you. I'm sorry if I scared you, baby. Come here.”

As they curl up on Bucky's bunk, baby!Buck carefully protected in his arms, Bucky can't help but think that he's never felt more alive in the last few months than during the last days when baby!Gale was looking at him as if he'd hung the stars.

After a moment, Gale softly adds “but it still hurts” and Bucky freezes and starts to panic because what does Gale mean when he says it still hurts? It shouldn't hurt because Buck isn't hurt, right? Bucky'd know if he was, right?

“Where does it hurt, Buck?”

“Here,” and when Bucky looks, he finds a big bruise on Buck's torso/ribs (and some others because of POW's life).

“Since when did it hurts baby?”

“When I arrived.” And that's when Bucky realizes that their fight has left more marks than he thought.

“Oh, Buck baby, why didn't you say something?”

“Daddy doesn't like when I complain.”

The whole bunkhouse tries to hold back their tears and fails miserably when they overhear the Buckies' conversation.

Bucky trying really hard to be strong for his little Buck when he doesn't know whether he wants to scream, hit someone or lock Buck up to protect him from all possible evils (in the end, he decides to hold him tight and carefully).

Also the stress of hiding baby!Buck from the guards (their little sunshine in need of comfort 🥹).

And for extra angst, if the de-ageing is caused by a lot of stress, Bucky would feel so guilty because it means Gale was suffering and he didn't see anything 😭😭😭😭

HS AU - Life After 30

All right, here we go - let's look at the lives of my HS AU boys after their Big Fight.

As I shared previously, when they're 30, the boys fight about whether to have kids or not. It’s a difficult period where they hurt each other deeply, but eventually, they resolve the fight: Gale runs away back to Milwaukee and visits his parents alone, goes through some trauma processing that he has been putting off, then ends up going home and making up with Bucky.

They both tear up during this conversation. Bucky tells Gale that he would rather stay childless with Gale than have children with someone else. But then, Gale tells him about everything that went through his mind during his time in Milwaukee and the revelations he had.

In the end, Gale says that he’s going to start therapy again, and he asks Bucky to give him time to see if he can get to a mental place where he is ready to have children. Relieved and happy to have his husband back, Bucky agrees.

Over the course of the next two years, Gale goes through a brief period of depression, then a therapy process that helps him tremendously. Once or twice, Bucky is asked to join him on these therapy sessions. Gale also starts working at NASA, where he becomes best friends with Marge.

After more than a year of therapy, Gale tells Bucky that if Bucky still wants it, they can look into their options to have children.

First, they look into adoption, but eventually, after many long discussions and external advice, they end up choosing surrogacy via Marge's sister, who's the one who suggests it in the first place.

Gale still has some fears about becoming a father, therefore they decide that the baby will be Bucky's biological child.

Their first kid, Abigail "Abby" Egan, is born when Bucky and Gale are 35.

She looks just like Bucky, with dark curls and dark blue eyes, but she has the rounder face shape of Marge's sister. She's vocal even as a baby, and she starts talking at a very young age.

Her name is Abigail because Bucky fell in love with the idea of her carrying Gale's name in hers, and Gale felt too touched to say no. (And the name means "my father's joy", which the boys both like.)

They decided even before starting the surrogacy process that any child they would have would take Bucky's surname only. Gale has no desire to pass his on.

Gale's anxious and tense at first when they bring her home from the hospital. He doesn’t know if he'll be able to connect with her or if he can be someone she could love.

But, the first night he holds her in his arms and puts her to sleep by singing to her quietly, he realizes that those paternal feelings he thought he didn’t have were there in his heart all along. That night, after he leaves her in her crib, he tears up in Bucky's embrace and tells Bucky that he didn’t think he would ever love anyone as much as he loves Bucky, but he thinks he might have been wrong.

Bucky and Gale turn out to be really good parents, and they're able to adjust to fatherhood well enough that not long after taking Abby home, they decide that they would like to have another child if they have a chance.

Three years after Abby, her brother, George "Matty" Egan is born, also via surrogacy.

This time, Bucky and Gale have some difficulty deciding on a name. Nothing sounds right. Eventually, they name their son after Georgia.

But, while they're still undecided about it, Gale starts referring to the fetus as Baby B, which becomes Baby Bee, and he gets really attached to the nickname. So much so that he continues calling him Baby Bee once he’s born and buys him bee-themed blankets, toys and onesies. Bucky's a bit... exasperated by this.

Matty gets his final nickname as a toddler - once, he gets frustrated because of something Bucky has done and throws a tantrum. In an attempt to cheer him up, Bucky asks him if he's "mad at Daddy". In his upset state, Matty doesn’t pronounce this correctly and it sort of comes out as "Maddy", which very quickly becomes Matty because Bucky is giddy that he finally found a nickname that isn’t Bee.

Matty is Gale’s biological child. He has light blond hair, big blue eyes and a quiet temperament. He’s very good-natured and easy to handle, but he doesn’t like change and gets clingy with his parents.

The family lives in Washington because of Gale's job at NASA.

In addition to the kids, Bucky and Gale also have their first dog, Achilles, from when Gale was a PhD student, but the dog is very old by the time Matty is born and has to be put down not long after. Bucky is heartbroken about it, because he doesn’t cope well with loss, and he says he doesn’t want to get another dog for a while.

This only lasts for a few years though, because around the time when Abby is 7 and Matty is 4, Gale gets Bucky a puppy as a birthday gift. It’s also a golden retriever, but female, and Abby is obsessed with her from the beginning. It’s quickly apparent that it's going to be her dog basically. Bucky and Gale let the kids give the puppy a name each, and that's how she becomes Poppy Pancakes Egan.

They visit Georgia and Neil in Milwaukee a few times a year, and when they're old enough, the kids spend multiple weeks there during the summer.

In a nutshell, this is how Bucky's and Gale’s life changes in the years after they turn 30. They move to Washington, Gale starts working at NASA, and they have their own little family. 🥰

I have been brainstorming about my HS AU with the lovely @butdaddyilovehim99 for several months now, and by now, these characters and their lives feel almost real to me. Therefore, this post is only a summary, but I have many, many more headcanons that we can talk about if you guys are interested. Could you give us some insight into how John and Gale’s sex life changes once they have kids and how they navigate that and adjust? Especially with John’s high sex drive/libido. Do they ever have arguments over the lack of sex, etc.? Does it ever make them crabby and short with one another, especially on John’s end? Do they ever take weekend trips or vacations without the kids so that they can have intimate time for themselves to focus on each other? And how does their sex life change from when the kids are babies/toddlers/little kids to when they’re older?

Good question! Things do change, because of all the time, energy and attention children require.

Bucky and Gale have been together for 20 years already when Abby is born, so sex isn’t a big priority in their relationship anymore. It’s not as difficult to give up on it in favour of more sleep, which they desperately need while Abby is a baby. In that initial period, they usually have sex only on the weekends, then 2-3 times a week when she's a bit older.

They have to learn how to be quiet again, and I think that's the most frustrating change to them. But they're really good at having sex even without any words exchanged, they know each other so well. They don’t go all the way as often as they used to, because that takes a long time and it's more difficult to stay quiet than during handjobs and blowjobs. However, they do joke about how the situation is reminiscent of their high school years.

The absolute rock bottom in their sex life is when Matty is born, because then they not only have two children under 5 (one baby), but Abby also brings home all sorts of contagious illnesses from daycare. Then, they only have sex every few weeks. But it gradually improves after that until they're back to 2-3 times a week. I'd say 3 times per week is their average until the kids move out.

They do try to have some time to themselves regularly. It’s a big relief when the kids are old enough to have sleepovers. And every summer, the kids vacation in Milwaukee with Georgia and Neil for a couple of weeks.

They don’t have too many arguments about sex. They're resourceful, so they usually find a way to be intimate if one or both of them are getting frustrated. Sometimes, they have smaller disagreements over what sort of sex they have time and privacy for. Bucky's libido isn’t as high as it used to be, so he’s fine with their 3 times weekly sex. If he's really horny and Gale’s really tired, Bucky just jerks off in bed or in the shower sometimes. This doesn’t bother Gale at all - if Bucky does it in their bed, he likes to curl close to Bucky, stroke his chest and whisper encouragement in his ear.
