We Need A Kipperlilly Special On The Complicated Women Podcast - She Willingly Chose To Be Possessed,

we need a kipperlilly special on the complicated women podcast - she willingly chose to be possessed, those are some complex ethical and philosophical ramifications. for the sake of the argument i'm assuming porter also has control over her since the shatter star is a part of her, because the morality of choosing to become evil is so interesting. did she think she was going to become a hero somehow, or did she accept that she would have to be a villain to have the power she wanted? she wanted to be better than the bad kids but she kept her moral superiority about fairness and the rules, so was she aware that she couldn't beat the bad kids by playing fair? was her anger always at her own inadequacy, at the fact that she could never excel in the same way they did without cheating? was she projecting the entire time?

Remus: Did you have to stab him?

Sirius: You weren't there. You didn't hear what he said to me.

Remus: What did he say?

Sirius: "What are you going to do, stab me?"

Remus:

Lily:

The rest of the Gryffindors:

James: (nodding) That's fair.

Sirius: Baby shower invitation? Haha, no thanks, Lily. I have a regular size shower that I can use whenever I want.

penelope's line from prompocalyse always stuck with me - 'i let them put my best friend in that crystal'. i can just picture her lying in her bed before prom wishing she had her best friend there, possibly the only person penelope ever actually loved, but knowing that she would never be forgiven for giving her up in the first place. sam wasn't a means to an end, in her eyes sam was a sacrifice that had to be made to be queen. sam was a shred of goodness and hope and happiness that penelope gave up for power, not only because sam herself would be sacrificed but because the sam that loved her, her best friend, would cease to exist.

i don't think she liked sam because she was pretty or talented or famous - i think she liked sam because sam loved her. it's both more and less meaningful, because in being loved by sam penelope could and did love her back but didn't anticipate that one day sam would stop loving her. she's left with this feeling of empitiness and loneliness that she doesn't even attempt to mend because she knows that nobody would ever compare to sam, so all she can do is cling to her crown and try to fill the hole herself with everything she thought she admired about sam.

sam was strong. sam was beautiful. sam was fierce and independent and powerful. penelope could be all of these things and more, and yet never be able to fill the hole sam left because she wouldn't let herself care. penelope loved that if she said the right thing sam would be hurt, because sam cared and penelope could always exploit that weakness. there was a kind of sick pride in not caring, because even if sam was stronger than her at least penelope didn't care. at least she could nurture that love and dependency without ever having to be burdened by reciprocating it.

penelope never anticipated that one day sam wouldn't care. and penelope would be forced to acknowledge that she cared, that she had cared all along, and that now sam didn't.

I’m thinking about nightpetal again and specifically thinking about the “I don’t love you anymore.” thinking about it from penelope’s perspective, if that actually was penelope. thinking about her taunting sam like she always did, except now six girls rip through time and space to take sam’s hand and take her away. six girls who have clearly fought through some shit to come get sam, six people who love sam and aren’t afraid to tell her, to show her. I just wonder how she felt seeing antiope taking sam by the hand and telling her she loves her so openly. I wonder if, as sam told her “I don’t love you anymore,” surrounded by people who would clearly do anything for her, if penelope regretted not being that for sam. I wonder if it hurt her to know that she didn’t have someone like that, especially because she knows that, for most of her life, she did.

now i really hope this isn't right, but i gotta say it

kalina said ragh barkrock, not lydia. lydia has experience with these things, she knows how to seal it and she's pretty cognizant and capable at the moment so she doesn't need ragh to explain on her behalf. maybe kalina just said ragh because he used to be infected (and he wasn't born with it so we can assume lydia wasn't) so she knows him better, but. lydia's already occupied with the gem in her chest. IF the same ritual needed to happen to seal the shatter stars again, lydia wouldn't be strong enough in her current state since she's weakened by the gem. gorgug's strength score dropped to 18 since taking more levels of artificer. ragh still has a +5. as far as we know the closest person to the bad kids who COULD have the strength to fuse with the gem is ragh, who also has some experience with it already. and if he did he would experience the same illness as his mother if not worse.

i didn't find this argumentative at all, this is exactly the kind of thought-out, articulate response i wanted! i'm not super good at expressing myself effectively when i have personal biases (idk if that's the right word, but i'm influenced by my own experiences) so i really genuinely appreciate you putting it all into words so well !

personally i know i get attached to disabled characters and if they're cured i almost always prefer the disabled version. recovery can be done really well if given the proper attention and care, but i'm always more of a sucker for the arc of accommodations than the arc of recovery just because i can't relate to the latter - i just really want to make it clear that i'm not against recovery or think able-bodied characters are worse, i just relate more to the world when there are characters i relate to in it.

am i a total asshole for being kind of upset that they totally healed lydia? i know disabilities in fantasy are tough because there are spells that can fix everything but i get a bit sad imagining the new art of her without the gem standing up.
