no bcs district 12 tributes for the 50th hunger games are iconic af.... lucy gray, jessup, katniss and peeta are cool and i love them but they are mostly pure angst... while these... louella and her "i don't want these idiots as my allies," maysilee and insulting everyone's fashion sense, wyatt and his betting on everyone's deaths, haymitch drinking snow's milk.... hilarious af, they're so bratty and insane i love them

As i am rereading tbosas i had a thought that Maysilee and Wyatt were doomed in every narrative. Had they lived during the First Quarter Quell timeline, when district citizens chose their own tributes, they would have been reaped as well.
So we're supposed to choose our own tributes, huh? How about that meanest girl in town, Maysilee Donner, who moves around the town looking down at us, flaunting her jewellery and money? Well, you're in for a surprise Miss Donner, all the money cant buy you power over us. Who's the superior one now, Miss Donner? Good luck in the games.
And how about we teach that old Jethro Callow a thing or two about betting on seam kids? Lets see how willing he is to bet when it's his own son that is in the game. The son is likely involved in the betting as well, so no innocent life is being sacrificed in the process.
Meanwhile as soon as they were given a chance, both Maysilee and Wyatt reverted the expectations. The "meanest girl in town" taking care of all the underdogs in the games, being an older sister and showing great care for them when nobody else would, and the "heartless" booker boy sacrificing his chances for a person he barely knew. A true don't judge a book by its cover.

okay so i've gotten some mixed answers on this. i'm probably gonna go with yun cigarette elias matches for my fic though. thank you to allo for always cooking and to whoever (maybe vani) said "the cigarettes are the reason the matches burn in the first place"

you could argue that yun is self-destructed right now. but how is elias contributing to that? in the fic this is after their breakup and it like reallyy fucks yun up.
but ALSO we could argue it's them during the relationship. elias collapsing in on himself because of yun. how elias wants to help him, but he refuses help. yun is obsessive, incredibly unstable. (i mean tbf so is elias...)
this doesn't need to be about self-destruction either. it could also be about recreation, appearances, someone being "the spark." i don't know anymore why am i debating this it's one line about which colors the boxes are.
this might be controversial, but i had another conversation about the japanese with my friends actually. it was about japanese colonization of indonesia and their treatment of korea. also how they fucked over a lot of countries in ww2...one of them said something along the lines of "The US doesn't teach about negative Japanese history because we sent Japanese Americans to concentration camps and nuked their islands twice. So now we're only fed propoganda."

my fav thing about sunrise on the reaping was when haymitch was like yeah caeser i'm a lone wolf 😏 i'm with the newcomers but i'm not WITH the newcomers, yknow? they call me a rascal. a rebel against the gamemasters. I scored a ONE and that is a THREAT. you do not want to mess with me 🙅

sotr is my favorite book because it's so fun/interesting to see how everything connects together. like snow being highkey offended at lenore dove's name, katniss's parents making a cameo, etc. "oh he knows that because of lucy gray!" "oh everdeen?" "oh my god katniss's mom actually has a personality." plus there are so many lore drops, haymitch yaps so much, we get a lot more information about d12 in the first three chapters than in the main trilogy.
oh also did i mention the lgbtq rep, and that maysilee, louella, wyatt, and lenore dove are all icons? i need to get geese now.
My favorite headcanon is that Lucy Gray, Lenore Dove, and Katniss look almost exactly the same, but not in an easily definable way like having the same hair, eyes, etc. It's probably facial structure and vibes, and President Snow goes insane about it routinely because he *knows* they're all related but can't just point to a picture and immediately explain why.
