you can’t tell me that… 

kalim isn’t that popular guy who throws the best parties ever. everyone knows him, but no one knows him. he’s practically untouchable. in fact, you’ve never even met him, despite going to his parties so often. one day you were hiding in one of the rooms of kalim’s estate during the party. your date left you for someone else, so you just wanted to be left alone, until some guy snuck in there with you. ‘ oh qamar ( moon ) , what’s got you cooped in here instead of out there where the party is ? ‘ and so you explained to the pretty stranger the secrets of your heart. he comforted you, smile made of gold, eyes made of rubies—it was nice to have him listen to you. he made you laugh. eventually, someone came looking for him and called him by his name. kalim. “ ah , sorry about that qamar. i’m needed outside now , but here’s my number if you want to chat sometime ! ”

jamil isn’t that gorgeous guy you happen to run into every once in a while. you guys share a few classes together, but you’re both way to busy to stop and chat. however, your heart flutters every single time you bump into him. he always leans down to help you grab your things, chiding you softly about being careful, before rushing off to where ever he’s needed. those moments were far too short. he finally sat next to you during a lecture in your arabic literature class, and he helped you translate the poetry. “ ya amraten enqalub al tareekh. eni madhbuhu fiki. min al shiryan , ila al shiryan. this part means ‘ you flip the maps of time and i’m slaughter by it , vain to vain. ‘ ” he’d pause to make eye contact with you, eyes brimming with enigmatic emotions, “ pay attention to the context , because it’ll make even more sense once you do. “
