So...did Bail Organa basically kidnap Leia? Luke went to his aunt and uncle, which is already kind of suspect because it doesn’t seem like either of them really had much of a connection to Padme or Anakin but at least there’s a legitimate familial connection and I guess Anakin probably lost all rights to decisions over his kids after he became Vader, but I really don’t think Padme would have been all that on board with a.) her children being separated or b.) neither of them going to her family or people she trusts to raise them. She met Owen and Breha all of one time? And I get Bail was probably her friend, but I really don’t think a work colleague would have been all that high on her list of guardians over say...her sister? Her parents? Her handmaidens/best friends? Luke can be explained, he went to nominal family in a place outside the purview of the Emperor where his father couldn’t find him. But Leia? She was raised on a stage in the very heart of the Empire, very obviously not related to Bail or Breha and being given the same title and position as her mother. She could not have possible been in more danger, besides that, no way Bail had any legal right to take her, whatever his intentions, he basically kidnapped her from her proper family who definitely would have done a better job of keeping her away from Vader and the Emperor. Even if Padme’s family were considered too dangerous, Padme’s handmaidens could have easily disappeared outside the Empire. I just can’t stop thinking about how Padme’s agency as a mother was violated by these three men who had very loose connections to her and really didn’t have any right to decide how her children would be raised.

I’m also never going to not be angry that Bail had C-3PO’s memory wiped without any kind of by your leave. He had no right to either of those droids either. The more I think about it the more angry I get.

I watched that scene where Leia was in a bikini way to many times to be normal. My parents really should have realized by the sixth rewatch.

my gods, there's gotta be a be a fall guy au anidala fic, i can just picture them in the movie man. Like if i were to cast Anakin is Colt, Padme is Jody (honestly this is wut makes me ask for this in the first place) Rex as Dan, Ahsoka as Tom's assistance ig but she gets more plot relevance because of course she does, Obi wan as Nigel ( Satine is also there cuz why not), maybe Rush as Tom, idk who would be Gail, go wild on that really. Padme Amidalia asked AT LEAST once whether Anakin was into *her* or into her badassery. She was how he looked at Rex, decided it was both, and then proceeded to kick Palpatines ass in public for meeting with A 9 YEAR OLD boy when he was a senator.

Obi-Wan tells EVERY news station that asks that Palpitine KEPT ASKING until they HAD to say yes. Anakin reads it, thinking it’s about two different people and says that that ‘sleemo shouldn’t have EVER been granted access to a kid like that’!… a lot of things are put into perspective after that. Padme and Anakin bring Rex into their couple. Everyone is happy except Palpitine.

padme amidala + star wars prequels, 1999 - 2005

Padmé comes from a beautiful fairytale planet ruled by benevolent queens, a privileged world of luxury and leisure, where the sociopolitical structures designed to keep the peace (apparently) function as they are meant to, at least more or less.

Anakin comes from an ugly barren planet ruled by ruthless gangsters, a harsh world of slavery and violence, where the only rule of law is that of the greedy and powerful over the weak, and there isn’t even the faintest veneer of social nicety to cover this.

Palpatine comes from the same world as Padmé, and outwardly operates by the same rules - gentility, respectability, sophistication. But in reality, he’s much more the sort of ruler Anakin is familiar with - cruel, domineering, power-hungry. He puts the nice face of Naboo on the tyranny of Tatooine.

No wonder Anakin follows him so readily.

The original AOTC script having Anakin say this after Padmé kisses him in the carriage scene on Geonosis, and it not being included in the final version is a criminal offence.

There’s a small part in the beginning of the Legends novel Yoda: Dark Rendezvous where it‘s narrated how Padmé was looking out to the distance watching the spaceport landing nearest to the Jedi Temple waiting for someone (Anakin) to land and immediately got her macrobinoculars when a ship landed but disappointedly put them down when she realized that it wasn’t “him.”

(It’s confirmed that Padmé waits by her window, watching the Jedi Temple with macrobinoculars intently waiting for Anakin to come home 🥹 the way she loves this man.)

Current status: overwhelmed with love and appreciation for Padme Amidala.
