I love to learn, I do...but only when the end goal is not an exam ykwim.

I love even the hard subjects like physics and Maths, they are so fun...but not when I have to eventually go write them in a dumb exam, because can't write exams.

Examination culture is definitely killing peoples want to study, and we as a society need to evaluate why that is.

Thanks to the person who thought it was more fun to add a letter instead of a number. Thanks to you, I have to study for days just to do a silly little equation without a number.

If I don’t answer tomorrow don’t worry I will probably just cry for bit because of my math exam.

38/100 days of productivity: My teacher are all trying to finish in time. It's like my third maths lesson of the week.

35/100 days of productivity: Working outside feel good ! I've planned my revision weeks. I already feel stressed, there is so much things to revise/learn in such a short period !

30/100 days of productivity: Bullet journal pages about engineering schools entrance examination

28/100 days of productivity: I didn't have a lot of homework today. I studied maths outside with the news pens I bought yesterday.

18/100 days of productivity: Fiches d'informatique parce que "spoiler y a de l'informatique aux concours" et maths.

9/100 days of productivity : This afternoon I had some time, so I began my physic notes for my khôle. (sort of french oral exam every week for student who pretend to join a "great" school like engineering school or commercial school) I also helped my sister understand primitives. I mades a lot of exercices in maths myself, learned engineering sciences for tomorrow exam and read again my French notes.

J-7: I bought new highlighters and highlight everything I could ! Scanning like 40 pages of book, it took so long ! And eventually learning a bit.

I want you to know that tomato soup is so underrated ! And I hate working with 10 pages of words open on my computer

What’s the worst thing about limits?

• Is it always having to amplify by the conjugate to eliminate indeterminate forms? NO.

• Is it having to learn some limits by heart (especially for trig functions)? NO.

• Is it having to sometimes use L’Hôpital-Bernoulli’s rule over and over again? NO.

• Is it having to just write “lim” before each line? YES. FUCKING YES. WHY OH GOD WHY I HATE THE NOTATION.

The most infuriating part of it is that it’s just a notation and it could so easily be changed, BUT NO, we’re stuck with this shit.

I love the fact that it’s commonly believed the writer (and mathematician!) Lewis Carroll could have done a math diss on quaternions, their unintuitive multiplication and their non-commutative nature in the Mad Hatter scene in “Alice in Wonderland”.

What does FTC say?

It says that if a person takes the derivative of a function and then integrates it over a region on the number line say [a, b] then this is the same as evaluating the function on its endpoints.

What does the Green's Theorem say?

Green's Theorem is the fundamental theorem of calculus in 2 dimensions.Instead of taking the derivative of a single variable function we take the curl of a 2 variable function.Instead of integrating this over a number line we integrate it on the xy plane.Instead of evaluating the function at the two endpoints a and b and taking the difference, we take the line integral of the function and integrate it around the curve in a counterclockwise direction.

What does the stokes' theorem say?

Stokes' theorem is the fundamental theorem of calculus in 3 dimensions. Instead of taking the derivative of a single variable function, we take the three-dimensional curl. Instead of integrating this over a number line, we integrate it on the surface (To evaluate the surface integral one has to dot the vector field with unit normal vectors). Instead of evaluating the function at the two endpoints a and b and taking the difference, we take the line integral of the function and integrate it around the curve on a surface in a counterclockwise direction just like in Green's Theorem.

I constantly feel intimidated by math. Like only some people get it and others just don't. I can't make connections and lose hope quickly. I am pursuing a combination of statistics, economics and math so math^3. How can one romanticize sitting in the same place and wrestling with difficult abstract math concepts without giving up? I am just penning this to find some point that triggers action in me.

Math is practice, practice and just when you think you're done practicing, you need to practice some more. I believe the issue is that in public schooling resources are very limited and teachers are undoubtedly overworked. This is a major issue with any subject but I believe particularly with math because, depending on which part of the subject you're currently engaging, it's the most abstract thing you will have to deal with. If you don't get it, well the resources simply aren't there for your teacher to take time with you and help you.

In reality math is nothing like that. As I have quoted before: “If you are receptive and humble, mathematics will lead you by the hand.” (Paul Dirac). I stand by this and will until my last day. Math requires an open mind and time, it does not like to be rushed and it will not stand for abuse. If you treat it kindly and patiently you will be rewarded. I understand it can be annoying/painful to have to take longer to grasp with content, just as it is annoying to practice the same kind of problem a thousand times but it's the way. You need to allow yourself to be wrong, to slam your head against the wall because you don't know how to proceed with problems. All of it is deeply painful, but remain open and calm and it will pay of.

When it comes to romanticizing mathematics I don't believe there is one right way. I love the rush I feel when I finally know the next step in a problem I've been stuck on for a day already. I feel butterflies in my stomach when I go outside and watch the water oscillate, when I look at bridges and try to figure out what parabola they describe. Small things in real life can always be reduced to math, and when you're out on a walk enjoying the weather it's a nice thing to focus your thoughts on. I love standing up, looking down at my desk which is filled with papers all over the place. Some filled with notes, others completely scratched out. To look down and tangibly see all the work I have done in the past few hours. Perhaps all of this applies to you, perhaps none of it applies. At the very least I hope you have some ideas now.

Mostly from the sides. But the top as well.

All I know is that it seems to line up with actually happening consistently for the last 15+ years.... & You agreed i Have people hacking & watching me.
