So, I personally hc that some of the students in HPA Class 78 have a betting pool of ships. (I first posted this on Wattpad as @Bananapiller btw, oh and I spelled Byakuya's name wrong in the original)
Junko: *talking to Kyoko, who just joined* So, here's the different ships. *Gestures to the blackboard of ships*
Celeste: Pick a ship, any ship!
Kyoko: ... *Looks up at the board and suddenly freezes*
Byakuya: Why are standing so stiffly. Having trouble deciding, Kirigiri?
Celeste: *looks where Kyoko is staring* oh... Well this awkward...
Kyoko: ... *Blushing* certainly...
Yes, I am a Celesgiri fan, don't judge (please). I honestly think that if the Tragedy didn't happen then Kyoko and Celestia would have started dating or at least gone out with each other.

*Cough, cough*
A wheezing, grating sound was heard by none as the rain poured down. It muffled her annoying pleads for air. The oxygen refusing to fill her lungs. She had been running, was still running.
‘If they find me I’m dead.’
That singular thought is what pushed her aching muscles to keep moving. To keep running. In all honesty she was never the type to run. She was very much a doer. A solver, an investigator. And what she found this time would put the whole world in danger if she didn’t tell.
‘I have to find someone, anyone.’
She was amateur at best. Maybe that’s why she was being chased. Heck, she didn’t understand half of the stuff she found.
‘Experimentation? Ultimate Hope? Mother Goose Project? And what does it have to do with Hajime? What does it have to do with Class 77-B? Where is Emi? Is she alright? Oh my lord, is she dead? They shouldn’t chase after her, she’s not an Ultimate, but then neither am I. Maybe they’re going after me because I know some or maybe because I know about everything else. I wish I could have stopped it. If I knew it was going to divulge into this, I would have stopped it. No, no, this is what I want.’
She kept running, faster and faster, she was almost at the gate. She grabbed the sides and climbed. Like a madman, like her life depended on it. Because it does, because in the distance you could see the herd of reserve course students coming for her. She barely made it over the fence when they banged on it.
The fall wasn’t that far, yet it was far enough to cause a sprain. Limping towards freedom, towards civilization, to tell all that was found, hope was crushed. Stand there haughtily, was a tall 5’10 figure, donned in red, black, and white. An eerie smile creeping on her face as she watched you fall. Legs having prematurely given out, as they thought you were safe. As you thought you were safe. She’s laughing to herself. The crowd on the other side of the fence was now surrounding you. She stopped herself once every exit was closed off by the crowd. You still on the floor heaving and she comes and steps on your back, digging her heel into your spine. You see her face and freeze. She looks absent, like the horrors she inflicted don’t bother her. Neither a smile nor frown paints her features. She looks bored. Portraying and having absolute power over you in this moment should invoke some kind of emotion and yet she looks bored. Then as if breaking from a trance a smile snaps on her face. She leans down so you can see her better. Then starts speaking in a nasally, babyish voice.
“And you thought you were so clever. Phu hu hu! You’re an idiot, the worst of the worst. An untalented piece of scum. A poor cowering sheep. But I do have to give you credit. I couldn’t have done it without you. You saw all the weird stuff happening around you and did nothing. You knew something was going on but you didn’t do anything about until it was too late. You could have easily prevented all of this if you just tried to open your mouth. I mean you are the only reserve course student with power. This is all your fault!”
She was cheesing the whole time. Dread seeped into your bones as your spine continued to slowly crack under the pressure of her fat foot.
“It’s not all my fault. So what if I had decided to say something. And it’s not like there was any reason to believe it was foul play. And it’s not like anything would have changed.”
She stopped, raising her foot and letting you breathe for a second. Only to slam her foot down on your back again, breaking your ribs under the pressure and fracturing your spine.
“Are you stupid? You’re an idiot must be. To never understand others envy of you or your own power. No, you knew and didn’t use it. Not that I’m mad. It’s better for me. I’m glad you were stupid. Because of you my plan went off without a hitch. Not that I had any doubts. But you did help, so I gave you a small mercy. A head start if you will. I hoped you enjoyed it, your face of despair was delightful, but it’s time for us to move on. To better, to more exciting despair.”
She hops off your back leaving you to die out in front of the school. To be watched by your classmates as you writhe in your last moments of life.
‘Fuck. I’m going to die. There’s no point. I tried so hard for nothing. I wish I could have helped. I wish I did help. There was so much going on that I let slide. If only I helped. If only I acted the moment this were getting out of hand. I could’ve saved them. All of them. I could’ve stopped her. Why. Why? WHY?”
Tears stream down your face as your breath comes to a painful slow. The rain beats heavy on your face, as if to drag you down where you “belong”.
‘If only I did something. If only I didn’t sit around and wait. Things would have been different.’
Sluggishly you move forward. Pained breaths ring loud in your ear, as you struggle to move forward. Even just a bit. To make a difference, one you didn’t have the heart to do before.
“Please. Please!”
Weak pleas escape but you can no longer move nor speak. Blood fills your lungs and mouth giving you moments to spare.
‘I want to save my friends! I wish I could save my friends. If only I could save my friends.’
And that’s the last thought she had. As she choked on her own blood the life in her eyes and the hope in her heart died.

“I’ll help you fulfill your wish.”
junko is a fascinatingly funny villain who defies so many attempts to understand her, reason with her, or empathize with her. i think the creator of danganronpa even said she was made to be a villain who’s impossible to relate to or understand. BUT HERE I AM, writing a meta about the inner workings of her mind and her motivations as a villain and how much of a tragedy she really was, because i am out here empathizing with her and loving her with all my heart.
i think she can be difficult to understand, and it’s easy to give up and explain away her actions as just “an obsession with despair” but there’s so much more going on that i just can’t leave it at that.
SO HERE WE GO: what the fuck is going on in junko’s mind?
[contains MAJOR spoilers for the first and second games and danganronpa 0; includes content from unlocked bonus mode games]

"She forgave my existence.. my beloved"
And you can’t prove me for shit otherwise
[spoiler for danganronpa 1]
disclaimer: I haven't read the novels, also these aren't character analysis, just my reasoning for why i put them in this category, also please add onto it if you disagree or have anything to say ^^
Sakura Ogami: She always takes decisions that she considers to be the best for the people around her : trying to proctect her dojo by accepting to work with Monokuma or committing suicide and making sure to write a letter explaining to everyone why she did it as to resolve the situation and create a more peaceful atmosphere among them.
Kyoko Kirigiri: She has good intentions and i feel like what pushes her to act is kind of a "i can do it therefore i should do it" mindset.
Chihiro Fujisaki: Cute baby sunshine, never did anything wrong in their life.
Ishimaru Kiyotaka: He's the Ultimate Moral Compass, pretty self-explanatory.
Naegi Makoto: A genuinely good person who tries his best to be kind.
Aoi: We can see during chapter 4 that she put her personal beliefs above all else but even if she tried to kill everyone i still think that she is a good person.
Toko (Ultra Despair Girl): If we were talking solely about THH i would've put her in Neutral Evil since she doesn't care about anyone but herself and is pretty mean (also something that i find very interesting during the 4th trial is that even if throughout the game she seems totally devoted and in love with Byakuya + her obvious lack of self esteem she still chose to defend herself when she thought Genocide Jack had killed Sakura which could've led to his death), but the character development she gets in that game is golden so yeah.
Mondo: Feel free to disagree with me on that because of the fact that he killed Chihiro who very much did not deserve it but contrary to what Naegi says in the game it absolutely wasn't a cold blooded murder, himself stating that he blacked-out while killing them. I still chose to put him in good because otherwise he really tried to do the right thing (protecting Chihiro's secret by moving their body or even when in the anime he covered Mukuro's bldy with his coat it showed that he was a kind person) + we also know that he uses his influence to minimize tensions between gangs.
Byakuya: I feel like his god complex makes him kind of uncapable to relate to other people and consider their struggles on the same level as him so he doesn't care about anyone + we saw during the 2nd trial that he definitely can't be described as a good person. I truly feel like he couldn't care less about rules or moral implications as he considers himself above it.
Leon: His actions only seem to be motivated by what he wants in that moment without a lot of reasoning behind it, like changing from baseball to music or killing Sayaka when he could've totally ran away after she tried to kill him.
Sayaka : I feel like she's morally neutral in the way where she's so goal-oriented that she doesn't care too much about the means to get to an end (which is also implicate in her backstory) but she's aware that what she does might bad : she was willing to let everyone die and pin the crime on Naegi but once her plan failed she still made sure to save everyone instead by writing Leon's name.
Yasuhiro : I hesitated to put him in chaotic evil because of the fact that he quite literally could have/tried to kill Sakura + he never was particularly kind to no one in the game and tried to steal money from us during his free time (tbh im still kinda mad at the wasted potential of making him a nice chill guy but well). In the end i went for neutral because i feel like its more a case of picking the worst possible choice than being a bad person, even if he is quite selfish.
Hifumi: The reason i put him in "lawful" is because what convinced him to kill Ishimaru was Celestia accusing him of SA, which is an understandable reason especially paired with the chance to get out happy and with Celestia but he was still willing to sacrifice everyone to get out so lawful evil it is.
Celestia Lundenberg: It was pretty complicated but i settled on this alignement if we take the things she tells us at face value (since i've seen a few people saying that she wasn't actually trying to win the game and that's why her plan was so sloppy). I don't feel like she's a bad person but she doesn't care about doing bad things to get what she wants.
Mukuro Ikusaba: That's where me not reading the novels probably makes a difference because i know that she gets more development there but based on the game and the anime i have to put her here, even if she was obviously manipulated by Junko she still seemed to agree with her.
Junko Enoshima: Do i really need to explain ?
Genocide Jack: I mean, she enjoys killing people and has no other reason for what she does.
Thank you if you read all of that, sorry for any typos/grammar mistakes, english isn't my first language and i wrote it all in one go. Please tell me what you think :)
actually the real reason why Taka couldn't have been a survivor is because if he made it to Chapter 6 as soon as Junko revealed herself in the trial he would've vaulted over the podium and started mauling her with his bare hands and then it would've been really anticlimactic
Big sister Sonia info dump : info below read more
I made a new AU called #bigsistersoniaAU
(I'll probably make a part 2 to explain the rest of the WOH relationship with their caretakers)
Btw on the relationship chart I would like to note :
Platonic: who each WOH was adopted by
Likes : basically friends but not friends
Ha/Ji , monaca's family and the rest of the WOH's family are in jail for the rest of their lives.
Sonia and gundam are not dating yet, they just both have a crush on each other.
The WOH still have their trauma so their caretakers have a bit of a challenge in taking care of them. They still manage though.
What are the relationships in your Danganronpa x owl house AU?
Important notice: This is a what if scenario Like how I thing the cast of danganronpa would be in an owl house setting. No character replaces any character in the Owl house (neither do they exist)
I’m only going to be doing the main characters of this AU
: Info Underneath :
Hajime(14) and Korekiyo (12) both live with Yasuhiro (36) and Hiroko (50)
Yasuhiro and Hiroko are hiding Hajime’s identity from the emperor (not revealed yet) and the rest of the boiling isle
Korekiyo and Hajime share a room in the attic of the house
Korekiyo doesn’t know Hajime is human and thinks he’s just a magicless witch
Their house is located in the woods (similar to the owl lady in the owl house , though the Hagakure's are much closer to the town)
Korekiyo and Angie (12) Are sort of friends
Korekiyo reluctantly lets Angie helps him try to track down a human in the boiling isles, but later on learns to appreciate her company and companionship
Angie by the end of the AU knows a lot about Korekiyo’s thought process and past
Tsumugi (12) , Izuru (14), Junko (14), and Mukuro (14) are all in the emperor's coven.
Tsumugi ( to an extent later on) and Mukuro are extremely loyal to Junko
Izuru is the highest ranking only slightly at par with Junko
They all (with the maybe exception of Junko) believe the emperor wants what's best for them
Sonia (14) and Gundham (14) are sweethearts and also best friends of Hajime’s
They both know Hajime’s secret and are trying their best on keeping it from Angie and Korekiyo (it is hard)
Hajime and Izuru are siblings
Hajime is the older twin
Izuru and Hajime have been in the boiling isle for a long time and currently have a rocky relationship with each other.
After a fight when the two were 10 , they sort of separated from each other, each getting picked up by different people (Hiroko and the emperor)
Both were transported to the realm of magic when they were 8
Nobody know what the emperor looks like except Junko and Izuru
In the eye of despair or something
Ok so fair warning its shit. But ive redrawn these fuckers like seven times so!
haha anyway @danganronpa-twist
HERE is the terrible comic of this :)
Sayaka: What’s it like being friends with Taka and Byakuya? Toko: One time i asked Taka for a cup of water when we had just fought, he came back with a single ice cube and said ‘wait.’ Byakuya laughed at me.
Mondo after the fifth butter joke hes gotten today: I FUCKING HATE THIS FUCKING FAMILY.
Taka holding a butter container: Look everyone! Its our good friend Mondo!
The group playing D&D. Taka and Junko chanting: you better watch out, You Better Watch Out; YOU BETTER WATCH OUT, YOU BETTER WATCH OUT- Mikan crying: WHY???? Akane frantically rolling her dice: I have zero idea i rolled a 3.
Toko looking at the WOH: Oh my fucking god is that a gremlin??
Kirigiri: How was the Honeymoon Taka? Taka: It was fun but,,,, ~Flashback~ Byakuya holding the marriage certificate and a lighter: GOOD LUCK TRYING TO RETURN ME WITH THE RECIEPT! ~Flashback end~ Taka: Toko just cheered him on.
Byakuya showing off Taka and Kokichi: MY LOVE AND MY CHILD. LOOK AT THEM. AMAZING.
Kirigiri and Celeste flirting Leon: Really? In front of my salad?
and some Toko third wheeling Taka and Byakuya:
If you’re a Danganronpa fan you probably have personal favorites whether it be characters, class trails or the topic of this essay favorite games. Despite all of the games having the same formula they still have a distinct identity from each other which is commendable but alas that’s not what we will discuss. In this essay I will explain why Danganronpa 2:Goodbye Despair is the best Danganronpa game.
Let me discuss the setting of the game Jabberwock Island. Immediately the tropical island serves as a stark contrast to the two schools of the trilogy. This isn’t just for show either while the schools are claustrophobic Jabberwock Island feels like an open space which makes the world more fun to move around in. Speaking of contrast in Danganronpa 2 each island does a good job of feeling distinct from one and another. When you get more floors to the school in the other game you do find interesting things. I especially like V3’s Talent Development Labs compared to the islands of SDR2 it’s no contest. The other games take place in a school and thus are limited to things that would logically be in a school were as you’re allowed much more freedom with the islands. From the bright and colorful amusement park of island four to the futuristic setting of island five there is no doubt that SDR2 has the most creative and diverse setting of any of the Danganronpa games.
Another thing that SDR2 executes well is feeling like a true expansion of the themes of DR1.Unlike V3 SDR2 plot is directly affected by the plot of DR1 without feeling like a rehash which can be difficult to pull off. I think the virtual world is an interesting concept that is executed quite well. Let’s use Chiaki as an example: the twist of her being an AI is foreshadowed with her direct similarities with Chihiro and Alter Ego. While not being overly obvious if you take a look at their designs they do share a lot in common. There designs both include a white button up shirt, similar bowties, an overcoat, a skirt with black stockings, along with similar shoes and haircuts. Once you spell it all out the design parallels become pretty obvious but they also share similar personality traits Chihiro they both share a love of gaming even though Chihiro isn’t as explicit about it. They also have a very sweet and well meaning personality along with a certain degree of intelligence which in Chiaki’s case is very analytical in nature which reflects her nature as an AI. There’s also some information in her free time events that foreshadows her nature as an AI which furthers her alter ego parallels. During one of her free time events she didn’t know that cows made milk which is basic human information and in a later free time event the only genre of games she’s bad at is dating sims which directly involves human connection as it’s primary gameplay mechanic.
That’s enough about Chiaki for now let’s discuss another character that uses parallels to another character that uses character parallels to great effect Nagito Komeda. The Makoto parallels are pretty obvious but let's still go over them starting with his design and also the fact that Nagito Komeada is an anagram of Makoto Naegi. Both characters wear a hoodie, have a similar haircut including the patented anime protagonist ahoge and his generally unremarkable design makes the Makoto comparisons clear. Were the parallel really shine however is in personality. During the early game the Makoto parallels are effective are used to create a false sense of security. During the early game he spends a lot of time helping you out and general doesn't come off as a bad person even if he does come across as a bit odd. This makes him an effective wolf in sheep's clothing. Even after revealing his true nature the Makoto parallels only grow stronger. Let’s take a look at both of their talents and how they operate in the narrative. Despite having the same title of The Ultimate Lucky Student there talents operate very differently. Makoto’s luck while powerful in it’s own way primary is used to keep him alive with conscience that make sense due to his talent. On the flip side Komeada’s luck is truly supernatural and he relise on it for his plans to work like when he used the random raffle to get himself on cleaning duty. Even though his luck is powerful it does come at a price. During his free time events he is revealed to have a cycle of luck where bad luck is preceded by good luck and vice versa As an example Komeda has said that he was kidnapped and then immediately found a lottery ticket that was worth ten million dollars Komeda’s luck serves as a powerful force of nature that is even beyond his control which is a real interesting subversion of Makoto’s luck. Another parallel is Makoto’s humility versus Komeada’s self deprecation. They both stem from the fact that they don’t see themselves as having worthwhile talents. Makoto sees himself as mundane compared to the exceptional people at Hope’s Peak Academy but he learns to overcome that insecurity and recognize his own value. Komeada on the hand sees himself as inherently worthless because of his lackluster talent and is willing to sacrifice his own life for the sake of the other ultimates Despite him seeing himself as worthless that couldn’t be further from the truth in fact he’s one of the most intelligent characters in the series but he refuses to acknowledge himself because of the way he see himself as worthless. Another thing the two characters have in common is the desire for hope but there methods are very different. Komeada like the founders of Hope's Peak sees ultimates as the embodiments of hope and he wishes to sacrifice himself for them and is willing to become the adversity they overcome and is willing to kill just so that he can become an obstacle that hope overthrows. Makoto is comparatively simpler in this regard and only becomes a symbol of hope because of his undying optimism and becomes known as the Ultimate Hope because of the adversity he faced and his ability to inspire Komeda also tried to become the Ultimate Hope by killing all remnants of despair including himself. This is a somewhat sound motivation however it ignores to hope of recovery and the ability to create their future. Speaking of hope for the future, let's talk about SDR2’s ending because it does a good job of thematically tying into Trigger Happy Havoc. It’s revealed that the world is a virtual world created by a The Future Foundation which was created by the survivors of DR1. The purpose of this world was to reform the sixteen students from the game which were revealed to be remnants of despair. This explains the nature of Monomi and the seeming peaceful beginning of the game however this turns into a killing game because of AI Junko. Let’s address the most common complaint about this finale which is that Junko was overused and this game should have had a new mastermind which is a fair complaint however if you consider the fact that SDR2 was created as a direct continuation of DR1 it works thematically for Junko to be the mastermind and it was a satisfying conclusion to finally kill Junko excluding the anime because the anime doesn't deserve rights. The Future Foundation also helps continue the story of DR1 due to the fact that we get to see these characters again in a way that furthers the plot. The new finales use’s characters from the previous game however it adds a different theme that feels natural with the theme of being able to change the future regardless of the past. This isn’t something that the survivors of the first game had to deal with because of the SDR2 survivors' unique situation of being remnants of despair. This while different is still a fundamentally optimistic theme so it feels thematically consistent with the themes of hope and despair from the first game
As I hope I’ve made clear that due to the thematic parallels of DR1,SDR2 is a true sequel that expands on the thematic elements of the first and becomes something greater than its predecessors.
