Dialogue Box

Holy shi* the frames on this recording. Anyway, here is my dialogue box! it reads a JSON file with all the lines a dialogue has and plays them with a silly sound that I might change... It has support for some cool stuff although it's not implemented yet since I'm really lazy and suck at writing.

Don't mind the other things in the background... However, if you can't control your curiosity, listen closely. I heard there is a hidden archive on a particular discord server full of other development snippets, including snippets that haven't been posted here!? If anyone asks you didn't hear it from me (plz join, k thx bye)

Liftable Objects

Liftable Objects

Super quick and basic implementation that just tells the object to follow the player's position with a bit of an offset. I use a ray cast to check if there are colliders where the drop area is and change the drop location to behind the player if that is the case... It uh sometimes crushes you or your party members but that's no biggie, right? It also sometimes gets glitched into things but that's an edge case that won't be abused at all.

You know... looking at it now, it might be a little buggy... But it's fun and brings a bit more interactivity to the overworld/field so I'm happy it's implemented haha.

Wonky Battle Scene Camera

Wonky Battle Scene Camera

Math is really important in game development. I'm trying to organize my battle scene similarly to how it's done in a PSP game known as Grand Knights History. My version is a bit rough, to say the least... Is it just me or does it feel like the UI on the bottom is sticky?

Since I had to rewrite everything while porting to Godot 4, I decided to make some tweaks to the battle scene. The UI changed a bit but float text is mostly the same...

New Chests!

New Chests!
New Chests!
New Chests!

Compared to the 2D ones getting this 3D one up to snuff was a bit of work. I still need to retexture the inside of the top half and add some glow effects maybe. I'm slowly getting a hang of blender and 3D workflows but I don't think I'm ready to do a house just yet... Maybe I should make some variants... I kinda want to make a minecrafty one that's super cuby.

As for why I decided to model a chest instead of billboarding one like the trees... So you can stand on it! I have some level design ideas in mind where a chest or some other small object is required to reach locations but for now, it's still just an idea.

Quick update, someone politely inquired about the pronoun setup in my game project yesterday, and to be honest I hadn't given it much thought.

But I decided, what the heck why not just decouple the player sprite's appearance from their in-game pronouns so they are separate questions when you're setting up your character at the beginning.

So you can use the feminine sprites with masculine pronouns or vice versa. I'll also add a 3rd set of "they/them" that can go to either sprite set too.

Not a hard thing for me to do and I'm sure it would make some people happier and nobody less happy, so that's a net positive for the game, and that's what we aim for here in my brain world. It's early enough in development that I don't have to revisit very much of what I already wrote into the game either so it's really nbd on that front.

Anyway will try to work on that sometime today if I get time between working my normie job

SS: I was unsure whether post here or what but, damn, Twitter is a burning hell and I just want to make funny videogames with my friends.

This is Birthright, a "small" project that was supposed to just take a couple of months but OH WELL, in four month will be a year, hell. This videogame is, clearly, based on The Binding of Isaac and intended to be a roguelite hack and slash. But since it is made in unity, this whole project has been a real ordeal, like, for some reason shaders didn't work and I had to delete the whole URP STUFF AND RE DO LIKE EVERYTHING?!?!?!?

I Accidently Made a Game: The Origin of The Duck Game

Hey, pausing the not so regularly scheduled Danganronpa rants to talk about a passion project of mine that has complety taking over my brain for the past several months.

You ever start a joke and then wake up one day realizing it’s gone way too far? Yeah. That’s The Duck Game.

It started with a simple board game, a dumb conversation, and a Danganronpa fanfic idea that spiraled completely out of control.

And now, somehow, it’s a real, fully fleshed-out narrative RPG about the dark side of ambition, success, and power.

Let me explain.

One day, my friend Jensen brought in a board game called Abducktion by Very Special Games.

It’s a strategy game where you move colored ducks into formations to score points. The game had this story where you’re an intern at a UFO company abducting ducks, and in the single player mode you could gain promotions based on how many points you earned.

So, as my friends Jensen, and Braylon were playing, we started joking around. What if Abducktion wasn’t just a fun little game? What if the boss was actually using it to weed out the weak to find the best interns, promote them and get rid of the rest?

And that’s when I thought: Wait. This would make a great fanfic.

I didn’t want to write a fic about me and my friends, so I did the next logical thing—turn it into a Danganronpa fanfic. That same day, literally hours later, I had a draft for the first chapter, multiple endings planned, and a whole choice-based structure where readers would click links to different chapters based on their decisions.

Then I realized... that would be alot of work even for an over-obsessed Danganronpa fan.

So, I told my friend Braylon about the idea, and he said:

"If you come up with the ideas, me and my team could make it a game for you."

And just like that, me and his team partnered up. But there was one little problem:

Copyright.

I couldn’t just submit a Danganronpa fanfic as a standalone game and try to market it off as my own that would be a legal disaster.

But then I remembered—my stupid brain had already come up with HCs so OOC they twisted the characters beyond reconigtion.

So I took my favorite (sadly) non canon friend group—Tenko, Kokichi, Maki, Shuichi, Kaito, and Kaede—gave them new names, new roles, new backstories, new trauma, and new relationships and boom.

The Duck Game was born.

What started as a ha-ha funny idea spiraled into something way bigger than I ever expected.

When I was writing the idea down for the first time I literally wrote "The Duck Game, lmao no way this will go anywhere"

And now, several months later, here I am—actually making a real game. And honestly? I’m really proud of myself (which is rare, so that’s how you know this means something).

It's also really weird to be super fixated on something that isn't Danganronpa for once.

So What Is The Duck Game?

It’s a narrative-driven RPG about climbing the corporate ladder at a shady company called Luxus Enterprises. You play as Bennett Brooks, an anxious intern who slowly gets tangled in a world of corruption, power, and moral compromise.

Every decision you make shapes his relationships, his career, and who or what he ultimately becomes.

With multiple endings, branching choices, and a heavy focus on ethical repercussions, The Duck Game asks one question:

"How far would you go for success?"

If you're into narrative driven games, power struggles, and complex characters you'll love The Duck Game. It's got drama, tough choices, and dark themes, with a unique twist on corporate ambition and moral dilemmas.

It's still a WIP but I'm excited to share as it develops. Follow @theduckgameoffical for updates!

If you're intrested I'd appreciate you checking it out! Your feedback and support let me know people are invested, but no pressure.

Thank you so much for all the support you’ve shown on my rants and projects in the past—I’m really excited to work towards making The Duck Game a fully fledged game with all of your help!

Hey guys, it's been a minute since my last Tetris devlog. For those of you that are new here: Hi! Welcome! I'm making a Tetris clone of sorts completly from scratch without any game engines or libraries or anything of the sort, writing all the code and making all the assets myself. It's running on a custom-built engine I wrote (or rather, am writing) in C, using the Windows API for window creation and sound output and other low-level stuff.

Development has been going pretty smoothly since my last devlog. There's sound effects now! And new music! And new graphics! And pausing! And text rendering! And save files! And a lot of other things besides. I've spent a decent chunk of the time on behind the scenes stuff to just make the game run better basically. There's still a lot to do left but at this point the game has really started to come together. I'm really happy with it so far :3

You can find the GitHub repo here if you wanna compile it or just take a gander at the code or whatever. Please don't steal anything I will cry if you do and you don't want that on your conscious right? :(

Hey fuckers check out this Tetris devlog

So uhhh yeah. Here's another quick lil preview of my Tetris game that I've been working on. I built the game engine that it's running on from scratch in C without any libraries or some such (except the Windows API for opening the window and handling basic file stuff of course) so that's fun I guess. Right? Yeah. So anyways progress has been coming along surprisingly smoothly since my last update. There's finally some proper graphics! Yay! It's not finalised yet but y'know. It's something. I've been using Krita for the first time to make all the art assets and it's been really fun. Oh right, I'm meaning to make everything myself including art and music, not just the code. I've already started working on the score/level/lines UI code so that'll probably be done soon.

I've also finally made the GitHub repo public so if you wan't to take a look at the code or download it or whatever you can find it here. The repo isn't very user friendly yet but eh. Who cares.

That's all for now. Stay tuned :3

Handmade Tetris Devlog - Gameplay!

You read that right folks. The game's got gameplay now. Revolutionary, right?

For those of you that are new here (which I imagine is most of you lol): I'm building a Tetris clone from the ground up in C without any game engines or external libraries or whatever, making everything myself. That includes the music and the graphics and everything else, not just the code. See my last post for more details.

The project has taken a major leap forward since my last update. We've actually got gameplay now! There's all the essentials of Tetris, from movement to line clears to a lose condition. It's an actual, playable game! Next up on my TODO is probably the preview window as well as the hold box, and then the score counter, which probably means that I have to implement a font rasterizer lol. And then there's of course hard drops and wall kicks and T-spins and all that. That's basically it in terms of actual gameplay, but there's still so much more to do after that. I'm excited.

See you in the next update :3

Programming? On my Tumblr?

It's more likely than you think >:3

So anyways here's an early tech demo for a lil project I've been working on. I'm making a game in pure C without any external libraries or game engines or whatever, writing everything from the ground up. Why? To see if I could. And also because I hate myself.

This bad boy's got low-latency audio output with a custom audio mixer and WAV file loading, input handling (keyboard + mouse, no controller support yet), and a basic graphics renderer (with BMP file support), as well as some other fun little features. It's built on the Windows API but all the platform code is isolated so that the game can easily ported. And what grand creation shall I make with this? ...Tetris. I'm planning to make a Tetris clone. Lol.

Oh, and the tetris remix you hear in the background? Wrote that myself. Music was never my strongest subject but I am determined to make everything by myself.

That is all.

👻Happy Halloween to everyone!👻

I didn't have time to draw the art with congratulations (but I'll finish it later), but today I'll write to you about the process of developing the demo version of my game!

Finally, the working demo version is ready, so I gave it to my friend for testing. All I have to do is make the translation and maybe fix some errors that may be found during testing.

So, very soon my visual novel will be ready!

In the meantime, I'll go finish drawing the art for Halloween:)

---

~some Screenshot From The Game/какой-то скрин из игры~

~some screenshot from the game/какой-то скрин из игры~

So, today I'm writing a short report on the progress of the "Gray Path" demo development:

~Text: 90% ready (actually, it's already completely written, but some minor edits are needed)

~Sprites: 100% ready

~Backgrounds: ~60% ready (10/16 but changes are possible)

~Sound: ~70% ready (I use free sounds so I just need to find them)

I will also need to do the translation at the end, test everything, and possibly make some other changes.

Bottom line: I think I'll have a demo out in about 2-3 weeks!

-----

Gray Path":

~main Menu~

~main menu~

Yesterday I made the main menu for the game.

I thought about the design, and decided to stick to the standard renpay's design; in my opinion, it fits well with the atmosphere of the game.

---

~a Small Screenshot From My Game~

~a small screenshot from my game~

Recently I started making backgrounds. To speed up the process I decided to use photobash (and because I'm not very good at drawing backgrounds xD)

What do you think about these backgrounds, not drawn?

I think they give off a bit of a "weird and wrong" vibe (which actually suits the overall vibe of the game)

---
