Thanks so much!!! At first it started with the whiskers, just to make him look more like a creature (because he is) but then I wanted to design Agni, y’know, the s u n. Eventually that spiraled down into the whole “Children of Agni” thing, so in short! Firebenders / Fire Nationals take their looks after Agni, their type of tusks showing weather they were favored/assisted by Agni or not. In Zuko’s case, the whole “lucky to be born” spiel gives him the Yokai-ish teefers. While “The Mark of Agni” (the weird nose stripe) is to show they are of Royal Blood, so Ursa wont have the stripe but Zuko, Ozai, Iroh, and Azula will. As for the ears, that was just an old headcanon as to how I draw each nation/kingdom/tribes general features to make them more distinct aside from their eye colors, more things to make them suspicious if they were sneaking around, more things to hide if you will.

Luna later Mets korra nd the gang in book 3 where she went with them to zaofu but before she met korra Ang the gang she was usually seen hanging around the air temple or water tribe

I said Japanese because I looked up what the fire nation was based off and it was imperial Japan

The reasoning behind why Iroh choose a doll for Azula, from a colonial perspective

irl, colonizers and other dominant groups made dolls of minorities to assert their hegemony and subjugate them, often using stereotypes e.g. https://www.ferris.edu/HTMLS/news/jimcrow/links/essays/toys.htm

These toys were also used to indoctrinate children into particular cultural values or racist ideas. This might be the purpose of Azula's doll. It might be made in EK or FN colonies. Either way, it may represent the colonized EK female, symbolizing women the colonizer can own and objectify. It fits the stereotype of the pretty EK girl from Iroh's song. That might be the message of the doll.

If so, this wouldn't make it better that Iroh gave Azula the doll not the knife. But it shows his chauvinist and sexist thinking that he would use the doll to say: FN women, you can be imperialists too! (just not by fighting or being ruler, that's for boys only).

I actually had SO much fun designing the jacket and the cheer outfit but I couldn't decide if I should give her blue pom poms or not cause they are meant to look like fire and maybe blue in this case would look a little out of place? I don't know but I'm definitely making this into an au!
