Your personal Tumblr journey starts here
Jekyll: I love dogs who are obsessed with licking people. "This human is pleasing to me, I have to put my tongue on it".
Hyde: Dogs treat us like we treat cool rocks.
Jekyll: Your relationship to rocks is apparently very different than mine.
Draw
DRAW THEM MORE OFTEN
I WANT TO ADMIRE YOUR BOYS MORE OFTEN Edward is very tasty........ (And a little hot)
Henry gets a new haircut every time I draw him *ahem*
I see a lot of aus of tgs, and i think we need more ,so here im giving some ideas for aus because im too lazy to write them
THE SCIENTISTS CATALOGUE
"Some creatures called the alternates start appearing more and more in the world, Englad is not a exception."
So basically an au crossover with tmc. Where the society tries to survive the alternates(and maybe some died trying too). Other ideas could also be Hyde being an alternate and killing the lodgers one for one or Jekyll dying saving the lodgers from an alternate who enter the society and becoming a ghost.
EPIC X TGS
An au where the characters change places with the characters of epic the musical. Jekyll being Odysseus and Lanyon being Penelope or reversed, Hyde being Hermes, Frankeistein being Athena, Jasper or maybe a child fan oc could be Telemachus, and the rest you can decide.
And thats are all the aus i could think of, if i think of more im gonna post it, bye š
Just saying, Stevenson is 100% projecting his guilt on his very liberal views (for the time) and finding a way to cope with the religious trauma of how he was raised and disappointing his father.
Heās making the personification of Edward Hyde devilish to show that he feels he is a monster who disappointed his father. Even tho he doesnāt want to care about what his father feels.
Also just saying Hyde writes with his left hand which was seen as a sign of the devil during this time
Iāve been reading a lot of 19th century literature ever since Nosferatu(2024) came out and Iāve gotten to The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
But as Iām reading this, I donāt think Edward Hyde existed at all
From how Dr. Jekyll writes this account he seems to be fully in control and observant as opposed to a passenger in his own body
The only different is this drug he is taking is freeing him from religious inhibition. (the Calvinistic belief that you must deprive yourself of pleasure because itās sinful.) but because the drug makes him look younger, heās using it as an excuse to personify the āsinfulā urges he has and rid his conscious of blame
Tumblr is now going to be my outlet for talking about books
(Sketch of Edward Hyde as I try to figure out how to draw his body hair)
I like how the pose turned out on this one, I think most of his face being hidden and his character being shown more in body language works well for Hyde
I feel like I don't draw Edward Hyde looking Spooky often enough.
This was actually a test sketch for those stylized shadows, but I like it so you all get to see it too!
Mr Edward Hyde in modern clothing. Apparently my idea of modern is 1992.
So, The Glass Scientists by Sage Cotugno is one of my absolute favourite Jekyll and Hyde stories and I would highly recommend it.
It has the same tone of lighthearted silliness mixed with genuine tragedy which I loved about the original novella
I gives Jekyll and Hyde both ample screentime so you get to see both of their perspectives, and get to know them both as people
It doesn't play the "Jekyll's pure good, Hyde's pure bad" card, which I appreciate
The character designs are great and Hyde's facial expressions are priceless!
It keeps in the queer narrative, which is a major part for many people reading the novella but I haven't seen other adaptations do it very well
It has a werewolf, and he's a very nice and sweet young man
And it's Webcomic, so it's free to read on the internet!
Edward no! Put that conical flask down right now or so help me!
Edward Hyde, Victorian gremlin man, I love you so. ā„ This ended up looking a bit like concept art for an animated movie art style wise, and that just makes me sad there isn't a cutesy animated classic disney musical type Jekyll and Hyde movie because that would be amazing.
Little sketch of Edward Hyde looking sassy.
A Smol Edward Hyde.
Mr. Edward Hyde from the gothic novella "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson.
I have no idea why This is how I imagined him looking XD
*pats Edward's curly hair*
THE PRETTIEST OF BOYS
THE PRETTY BOYS
Some traditional art I made on a road trip cuz Iām bored asf, hopefully this will suffice for my absence from the fandomā¼ļø imma try to be active again
Who fed the gremlin after midnight-
Doodled this yesterday, please save me from schoolššļæ¼
I made āØmoreāØ
Hydeās self appointed job when in shadow form is to make Jekyll think heās low on sanity when heās really not (so kinda like canon DNKDKCWKXK-) except he doesnāt do it to take control (mostly).
He just does it to fuck with Henry.
Idk Donāt Starve is in my life again and my friend mentioned small things Henry and Wilson have in common so⦠TGS Donāt Starve AU ig
Also bonus Wilson. For Funsies!
So is it law now that every version of Edward Hyde must be a bottom orrrrrrrrr?
Lanyon: I'm threatening you--
Hyde: You sure you're not trying to seduce me, daddy?
Lanyon: What?
Hyde: what
Frankenstein wonāt hesitate to poke fun at Creature about it but approves of Hyde, exclusively from knowing he set London on fire. Thatās some āproperā mad scientist behavior right there, striking terror into the masses and all that.
One reading of what Mr. Utterson suspects the possible relationship between Jekyll and Hyde, and the 'ghost of some old sin', might be is that Hyde is his illegitimate son, but between Hyde entering through Jekyll's back door (literally and metaphorically), Utterson having a nightmare of Hyde breaking into Jekyll's bedroom while he's sleeping and forcing him to do his bidding in the middle of the night, and thinking of shenanigans around Jekyll's bed a second time, another theory he might have is that Hyde is Jekyll's secret lover, either estranged or ongoing, and between those two possibilities, the latter would be far more dangerous to Jekyll in social and legal terms if it were to be discovered or used to blackmail him.
For historical context, the novella was published in 1886, though as we will later find out, the only information we are given about the temporal setting is that the story is set in the 19th century, though it can't be any earlier than 1850, if you do the math based on Jekyll's age. Homosexuality between men in the UK in the form of sodomy was punishable by death until 1861, during which the Offences Against the Person Act was passed to amend the penalty for sodomy from death to a minimum of ten years in prison; later, and just prior to the novella's publication, the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885 criminalized any and all acts of homosexuality between men (not just sodomy), including those done in private with no witnesses ā even a mere affectionate letter would suffice as evidence for prosecution ā to the point where it became known as the Blackmailer's Charter (source); this would later be the act under which Oscar Wilde would be found guilty of 'gross indecency' in 1895 and sentenced to prison.
Meanwhile, it wasn't uncommon for upper-class men to have illegitimate children, and while potentially scandalous, it would not necessarily be life-ruining ā though of course, the concern in that case could be that Hyde has other information he is holding over Jekyll's head as blackmail, including possible relationships with other men that would be both scandalous and illegal during this time period.
