Suddenly I was in another place. There was tall grass all around me, taller than me. The sky was clear, the sun stood high, and it was awfully warm. Something was calling to me, bidding me to come closer, and without much of a choice, I followed. After a few dozens steps I got out of the grass, and there were large stone steps before me. As I looked up I saw a large temple made of nothing but stone, with plants growing all over it. There were figureheads in some places, some looking human, others more animal-like. I wanted to go on further. Suddenly something heavy was pushing me to the ground, standing on me, clawing into my back. I felt the blood drain from me. I looked behind me, a huge feline was standing over me. More sturdy built than a cat, and with fangs going beyond it's lower jaw. I stared into one big golden eye with a pupil that was so dark and deep, that I couldn't look away. Before I knew what was happening it bit right into my neck. I woke up disoriented. What just happened? Where's that cannibal? I looked down at myself, my hands were covered in a dark, red, sticky fluid. I knew the feel, blood. Then I saw that guy on the ground. I was sitting on him, his throat slit, but he was grinning.

There it was again. What attack? It all flushed back into my mind in an instant. I was there again.
'...Survive' She yelled. I ran out back. Suddenly she started crying 'Leave me be, please. I don't want to die' 'Like I give a shit. It's all on the king's orders' Hahahahaha
That laughter. I knew it from somewhere. She started screaming. Louder and louder. You could feel her pain in those screams.
I turned around and ran. Ran to the forest. I didn't turn back anymore, I just ran. Ran for my life, hoping I never have to feel the pain I heard in those screams

It’s so dark already. I’m sure it will be night soon. I should find some tree I can sleep on.
I found a nice tree fast. It was climbable and probably high enough so wolves couldn’t get me. After finding a ‘comfy’ position on a branch I fell asleep fast.
Prepare for the Onslaught
’…Survive’ I yelled. Someone came in the front door. It was a man. He had a wound on his face. His eyes were glowing red. I started crying. 'Leave me be, please. I don’t want to die’ He looked at me and grinned 'Like I give a shit. It’s all on the king’s orders’Hahahahaha
He snapped his fingers and suddenly I was burning. I screamed. Louder and louder. Screaming out of pain & agony.

Birds... frogs... the stream in the distance... the wind in the trees... Damn it!
I opened my eyes and stood up again.
I looked at the sky, it was the first time I had done that all day. The sun is setting... lets see, two hares... had one in the morning, some berries too... guess I don't have much of a choice... either one risk, or the other... but which is the safer bet?
With every step I took I felt my energy being drained. I had to eat something, now. Even if it wasn't enough. I went back to the beck, took with me some branches on the way to make a fire.
I skinned and gutted the hares. Threw the rests into the forest on the other side of the stream. Something would surely come to eat that, but I wouldn't want that over here.
I fastened the hares to each their stick, and set both by the fire. Washed my hands in the water, drank some, and laid down besides the fire.
What should I do? I can either take the risk of hunting at night, or take the risk of sleeping while hungry and drained of strength. After having some food I should be able to get up on a tree, if I find one, but what if he... IT thinks of any shenanigans in the meantime.
Yøû kñöw Ï cån hær yôú?
… Shut up.
Yòú... Yôü... Yøµ...
I-I-I What?
He snarled at me. Didn't hear much more from him after that.
I laid on my side, watching the hares by the fire, the fire itself, how the flames danced their warm, but destructive dance on the wood...

She left shortly after Wasn't anything here for her, she said, so she didn't want to waste time
I had a few questions I wanted to ask her What she'd tell that guy if she met him again, where the nearest town is, what her name is but I didn't want to keep her, wasn't anything important anyway and in my current situation I did neither need nor want company Especially not some stranger who'd see me eat nearly a quarter of a deer, half raw, and in less time than some need for a 'normal' portion of meat
I found some branches, sharpened them on the rock walls of the cave, put some meat on them, and placed them over the fire
I was hungry, and that made me impatient so I held one stick right into the flames it took only a few moments till it was scorched on the outside but that was all, inside it was still as raw as before I didn't care, I did that a few times till that hole in my stomach began to fill Then I became patient enough to wait, but there still was one problem I had no idea of cooking, so it was still raw in the center
After eating all the meat I had prepped earlier, I put on the clothes They weren't completely dry yet but at least no longer soaked So I went to the road, by the pond on the way there, only had to choose which way to go now, east or west I'm unsure but I think I came from west, better go east then, I'll have to tell them that I'm alive some other time

We went back to the village in silence.
We had ventured out far. Were back in village a bit after noon.
Nothing really special happened there. People greeted as usual after we came back. Some asked if the hunt was bad. We told them bout the stag we followed but, we altered the story a bit. First time we got asked Ingrid improvised, then we agreed keeping the story of a pack of wolves coming out of nowhere. That they luckily went after the stag instead of us. Must have noticed that he was the bigger meal. We kept the rest to ourselves. No need to tell anyone.
After that day talking between Ingrid and me kept to the most important stuff. Every now and then, I saw in her eyes that she really wanted to get closer to me again, but she didn't try. She feared what might happen. Wished I could have done something about IT back then.
Then spring came, the snow began to melt, birds were chirping in the forest... and my 'bargain'; a warm place to stay in winter, paid with my help came to an end.

Helos
He opened the door. I walked in behind him.
'Martin, where 'ave ya been?'
'Met th' wee un on th' way'
'Wee wahn?'
I came forth from behind Martin. I saw in her eyes that she was exactly like him, only wanted to protect the people dear to her. And it seemed like I just became one of those people.
'Wot 'appened ter ya lil' wahn?' She came down and hugged me tightly. I didn't resist, it felt like paradise. I wanted that moment never to end. This warm, sincere hug. Like the one from a worried mother.
Then, still hugging me, she looked at Martin. 'Ya think...'

Looking at it afterwards I’m unsure what I thought. Although he was just an image from my memories, I did barely know how to fight.
The only experience I had was the training with that one guard. And hitting at a tree stump on my own.
I didn’t even know how to use a sword properly, and I had the brilliant idea to fistfight with this guy.
Oh shit-
He came at me with a right. By acting like I had a shield in my hand, I actually managed to block that.
It was a hard swing, It hurt like hell. But I had a small success there.
I was actually able to block that p –
He hit me under the chin.
I felt how I bit through my tongue, then lifted off the ground. Still pushed by his punch.
I woke up again. Panic-stricken, sitting up instantly
He beat me. Should have expected as much.

Distant Horizons
My stomach was rumbling Nothing edible in sight --- at least nothing I know is edible. I hope that I find another town soon. Else I'll starve in this forest.
I noticed that there where many animals around now. Although I only saw that beaver in the days before. Maybe if I somehow manage to catch a rabbit --- no, I wouldn't be able to make a fire here and raw rabbit doesn't sound very good.
Continuing through the forest I thought about what I could find here that was edible.

Kingslayer
A few days later Ruth and I went to a nearby town for... something -- I can't recall for what or why. Nothing really special was in town. Only masses of people, far more than in my hometown.
As we came by the Tavern a man came out. He was still looking inside while walking out the door. But then, he turned around. And his face went from tipsy smiling to sober fear. He went white as a sheet in no time.
He stood there, frozen in place. He slowly raised his shivering hand, pointing at me. He was opening his mouth widely. Like he wanted to scream, but -- nothing came out.

I snapped out of it I was back again. On the hard, cold ground of the forest.
'How did you do that? What are you? Where are you?'
Nothing. Not a single word. First then, as I listened closely, I noticed all the sounds around me. A crack here, a bird there. Then, a crackle. It came from a bush a few paces in front of me. I didn't know if I should run away or go to it, so I just sat there. Staring at it.
It was just a beaver. It looked at me shortly and then turned around and ran away.
Wait... a Beaver. That means there's a body of water near. I'm sure it'll return to it sooner or later. I went the direction the beaver disappeared into but there was no trace of it. I just continued in the general direction.

I'm a guy from Norway, 96 model. But enough about me, on this blog you'll mostly find stuff about Bjorn. Maybe I'll add a few short stories of other characters too after a while but for now it's Bjorn.
