One thing I love about being gay is that very specific emotion you get when you witness another queer person coming out or Realizing^tm or simply existing in the world for the first time as a queer person. And I’m not talking about friends or even people you know - it’s something I feel for complete strangers too: a youtuber I vaguely follow who just came out as a trans woman, two teenage girls I saw holding hands and furtively kissing behind shelves at the bookstore, this story of a 90yo gay man who finally decided to come out to his family… It’s a mix of pride and joy and, idk, tenderness? protectiveness? kinship? It’s like even though I’m never going to meet or talk to them, in my heart I’m holding a big sign that says “Welcome! Sorry if the journey’s been difficult, but you’re home now.”

wasn’t going to say anything regarding the national coming out day because i thought “it’s not like i will come out in real life”, but at the end of the day i changed my mind and decided to at least come out on a tumblr account where my real life friends and parents can’t see. 

well, then, hm,

i’m queer.

that felt better than i thought it would. 

so, happy national coming out day and remember, it’s ok to not come out and it’s ok to come out outside this day. your life is your business :))

do you ever just look at dan and phil and feel an overwhelming surge of comfort? i’ve never met those men before but the happiness they give me just through a screen is so overwhelmingly comfortable. i could be anxious the whole day but as soon as i hear their voices i’m okay, just for a few minutes. i love them.
