when I was 14 I worked in a grocery store and one day I got to bag Stephen Kingâs groceries and of course, being the little horror fiction nerd I am I was completely starstruck
I think he thought I was gonna ask for an autograph because I was not even lowkey staring I was full on moon-faced and bouncing and he kept looking over at me hesitantly like aw jeez kid fuck off
anyways I finally managed to squeak out that I was a huge fan and asked for advice on writing, âhow do I write as well as you do?â in my horrible thick German accent and broken ass English and he gave me the best writing advice I have ever received
âshit kid, stop worrying about how other people do it and just write your storyâ
14 years later my wife and I nearly hit him with our car because he was jaywalking
Wow, I can personally relate to just about every single example. I am so happy to know I am not alone.
⢠*someone says something* âwhat?â *repeats themselves* âsorry?â *repeats themselves again* âpardon?â
â˘"hey, y'see the red thing at the top of the shelf, will you get it?â âSorry, what?â âOn the sh-â âoh yeah sure, Iâll get it.â
â˘*doesnât hear teacher because someoneâs pen is making a scratchy sound at the back of the room*
â˘*replays video 10 ten times to figure out what theyâre saying*
â˘teachers asking, âwhy do you always stop writing in the middle of a sentence, just write down whatever Iâm saying,â followed by the response, âIâm just processing it,â rebuked by, âweâll stop processing it and just write.â

Kaitlyn groans face first into her pillow as she blindly seeks out her ringing phone. After a few seconds of searching she finds it on the nightstand and turns off the alarm.
As she lies there, she canât help but wonder why she tortures herself like this. Why she insists on waking up at this ungodly hour on the regular when she could be fast asleep. Fast asleep and having wonderful dreams.
Kaitlyn groans again. She rolls over and throws the blankets off herself, the cool morning air an unwelcome wake-up call. She gets herself up out of the bed taking a moment to stretch and yawn and then grabs the black shirt hanging on the back of the chair in her room.
After throwing on the shirt she makes her why out of her room and heads to the bathroom. Once done, Kaitlyn cautiously makes her way down the stairs with the sporadic yawn on the way. She enters the hall to come to the door to MCâs room.
She gently knocks on the door and slowly opens it. She peers in with sleepy eyes to find a sleeping MC. Quietly shutting the door behind her, kaitlyn walks up to the bed and proceeds to crawl onto it and over her sleeping beauty.
The previously sleeping MC stirs from the sudden movement on the bed. âYouâre late, Liao.â She groggily says. MC slowly opens her eyes to see kaitlynâs bright smile.
âShush you, I had to make a pit stop.â Kaitlyn says.
âFor coffee I hope?â MC asks. Kaitlynâs hair, face, and eyes beautifully light up in the morning light now creeping itself in through the window.
âNo coffee. But I can give you some sugar.â Kaitlyn flashes a mischievous smile and instantly begins showering MCâs face with kisses.
âAhh!â MC squirms and giggles from the affection. Satisified, Kaitlyn stops and crawls under the covers next to MC.
They both settle into the comfort of the bed and the warmth of the rising sun. Kaitlyn snuggles up against MC wrapping her arms around her, letting herself fall into this blissful moment.
It is then that Kaitlyn is reminded why she wakes up so early on the regular. And she will continue to do so for nothing could convince her to do otherwise.

I was inspired by this great piece of art and headcannon to write this little thing. I hope it was okay for me to write it. I have always enjoyed your art. Thank you so much for sharing it! đ
Headcanon: Even tho Kaitlyn is not a morning person, she wakes up an hour earlier than she has to so she can go cuddle with her girlfriend <3 (when they donât sleep together of course)
A comma splice walks into a bar, it has a drink and then leaves.
A question mark walks into a bar?
Two quotation marks âWalk intoâ a bar.
A gerund and an infinitive walk into a bar, drinking to drink.
The bar was walked into by a passive voice.
Three intransitive verbs walk into a bar. They sit. They drink. They leave.
on a evening where Alison convinces Becca to try a game with her nerdy friends.
Word Count:1800+
This was requested by absolutely no one, i just wanted to write it for me, and that is why i started writing to start with, for me and my silly ideas. I had a lot of fun with it, and i hope you enjoy it too. (Also not been proof-read, sorry.)
âSo, you want me to play some video game with you?â Becca said, slightly surprised at the suggestion, she was sure she never shown any indication at being into any such thing before.
âYeah! Why not, isnât that what couples do? Take an interest in each otherâs hobbies and interests?â Alison was excited at the idea, she was really interested in seeing how Becca would react, whether she would enjoy it. Becca was always full of surprises, she had managed to get into watching The Crown and The Flame with Alison, something previously conceived to be far to nerdy for Becca to endure never mind enjoy.
âDonât you think playing video games is a little childish, oh wait look who Iâm talking to!â Becca mocked, Alison smiled in return, she did rather enjoy the teasing back and forth that they had, it was one of the reasons why they worked. Beccaâs smile quickly faded and her face fell, her eyes following, dropping to the floor as she questioned herself. âWonât I be absolutely useless? I wouldnât want you to get fed up with me.â
âiâm really not that competitive, besides youâve shown yourself to be very adaptable.â
Becca rolled her eyes, and blew out a sharp exhale almost in defeat, she did make a very good argument. And how could she say no to that half smile Alison always pulled when she knew she came out on top with an indefensible argument.

i am so, so glad you guys are loving my trans lesbian daughter aisha bhatt as much as i do! it was really important to me to be able to write a love interest who was both trans and gay, and it was also really important to me to have a flashback moment where we meet her at the very beginning of her transition. so many trans people, including myself, have the experience of desperately wanting to transition but feeling like itâs pointless to even think about it because theyâll never âpass,â let alone be considered beautiful, as their true gender. like, so much of your self-worth is wrapped up in whether or not you look like a cis person! and it shouldnât be like that!!
so, with the college flashback scene, where we meet aisha for the first time on her first night on the town presenting as a woman, i was very specific in my notes to pixelberryâs art team: like, this is essentially Day One for aisha, she still has pretty short hair, her makeup is gonna be modest because she doesnât have a ton of experience applying it yet, and sheâs not exactly âpassingâ perfectly, but that doesnât matter! fuck that! what matters is that sheâs finally getting to be who she is and sheâs radiantly happy about it and her friends are behind her 110%! and sheâs taken her first step on this road and sheâs gonna continue on that road and we will meet her again in adulthood as an exquisite butch in a leather jacket and a cool pixie cut.Â
anyway!! i canât wait for you all to get to know aisha on this wild vegas journey. for those of you who arenât in the choices fandom already, you can download the choices: stories you play app on the app store and click on âbachelorette partyâ to meet her!!
Hey everyone, Abby here with another writing post! Today weâre talking about those classic characters, the ones who have crushes and no idea how to act on them.
Everyone knows that one person who canât relationship. They canât romance and at the moment it seems hopeless, but itâs also kind of entertaining to see how things work out for them. Today Iâm giving advice on how to write that character, things to do and not to do, as well as some ideas to get the inspiration flowing.
So, your character doesnât know anything about relationships. How do we know? These things usually start off with two things: a crush and a character who has no idea what to do with it. Do they act on it? Do they not? Do they stay friends? Do they just keep staring until their crush gets the message and asks them out? (That was weirdly specific but weâre rolling with it.) Who knows? Not them.
Weâre also going to remember that anyone can have no idea how to relationship. Itâs not always the quiet kid in the back with the high grades and big glasses, please remember this. It can be the star of the basketball team or the girl whoâs friends with everyone. It can be anyone.
Also, thereâs a difference between being âgood in bedâ and knowing how to maintain a proper relationship. There is a huge difference. Characters like this who get into serious relationships can end up being abusive or (more likely) only in it for the sex. If the other person wants a legitimate relationship, things arenât going to work out.
If youâre character has no idea what theyâre doing, they probably fall into one of two categories. Theyâve either never been in a relationship or theyâve been in multiple that didnât make it very far. So, you could probably consider them naive when it comes to relationships. So when they get into a real, lasting one, theyâre going to be in love with the idea of being involved with someone. This can often be a misunderstanding or misinterpretation; they might project that love of being in a relationship onto the person theyâre with, which could lead to some major issues.
Another problem is the media. It only portrays the extremes. You never see anything in the media about people in regular relationships, theyâre either madly in love or falling apart. Thereâs no in between, and because your character has no experience to tell them otherwise they could fall into the trap of believing thatâs the way real life goes. (Hint: itâs not.) This could end up creating a lot of unnecessary drama when things are going fine, because thereâs nothing you would see in the news about that and your character expects action.
I just realized Iâve made this more of a list of the negatives of writing these characters. Why not some positives?
This is a relationship, and itâs important to them. If your character cares, theyâre going to do everything they can to keep this relationship in a healthy state. This could include things like random little surprises, trips to random places for some time away, things like that. These things are all considered endearing and will definitely earn them some Romance Pointsâ˘.Â
If this character hasnât been involved with anyone in a while (or ever) and theyâre happy in their relationship, you bet theyâre going to talk about it. This might include proclamations about how happy they are, how great their partner is, etc.
If your story is set in todayâs world, the Internet is a thing. Theyâll probably be turning to all sorts of articles to help them out, and the fact that theyâre doing this is definitely a good thing. Even if they do something wrong, they cared enough to try.
So, there are some tips to follow. Just to get the ball rolling (because this topic isnât a stranger to anyone, Iâm sure) Iâm going to throw in a few examples/ideas for your clueless characters.
Being afraid to talk to their crush.
Thinking about simple exchanges (saying hello in the hallways) for ten million years.
Finally working up the nerve to ask their crush out.
The intense joy that comes after they say yes.
Or the bout of sadness that comes from rejection.
Brainstorming little things to do, like making breakfast in bed or arriving to their house with a bouquet of flowers.
Intense confusion about first kisses, when they should happen, how they should go.
Long phone calls or texting late at night, being exhausted in the morning but itâs okay because at least they got to talk.
Things like this. I would probably die of a cute overload if book characters did anything like that; maybe Iâm reading the wrong genre, but I donât think I see enough of it.
Anyway, thatâs all Iâve got for today. Like a lot of the topics I write about, there are plenty more pointers to give, but I think this would be enough to get you going. If thereâs anything youâd like to see me write about in my next post, please donât hesitate to leave a message in my ask. Until next time, stay lovely <333
youâre doing a great job, seriously
guess what? the game even helps you on training your English skills, how amazing is that??? seriously, for free
