Late night thoughts post and I'm eepy so if I sound deluded that's why but like, I just discovered fictionhearted and I am currently questioning if I'm fictionhearted with Basil as the character and that could be part of the reason why I'm so freaking defensive of him and get so upset when people misinterpret his character 💀

People are not defined by their addictions.

Someone who is an alcoholic isn’t just an alcoholic. Someone who’s hooked on opioids isn’t necessarily a bad person. Someone who can’t help but shoot up on heroin isn’t necessarily crazy. SOMEONE WHO IS ADDICTED TO DRUGS ISN’T A BAD PERSON JUST BECAUSE THEY DO DRUGS. And even if they are a bad person? They should still be entitled to get help. If the cops arrest someone for possession of drugs, that person shouldn’t just be charged for the crime. They should be given legitimate help to stop the addiction. And because this isn’t done, at least where I live in the US, my Papa (mom’s stepdad) is now dead. Today’s his birthday, and two days ago, he committed suicide. He was an alcoholic, who was arrested multiple times, and one of those times was for possession of drugs. I don’t know what kind. All I know is, very little was done to help him, if anything at all was done. Just because someone has an addiction does not make them a bad person. I can say this with confidence because, when I was little, my Papa was one of the funniest people in my life. He made me and my cousins giggle a lot, by telling jokes and making funny faces and tickling us silly. I don’t have many memories of him beyond that, because once he and my Nana (mom’s mom) got divorced a few years back, we only saw him twice. We tried to schedule time to spend with him, but a lot of the times, he would cancel last minute. He would stop reaching out to people as much. He had to give away his cat and move out from the house he and my Nana had lived in. He moved into an apartment. Multiple times, my aunts who lived nearby called for police welfare checks on him.

Two days ago, on March 20th, my Papa was found dead. I don’t feel comfortable sharing how he did it, but he did leave a suicide note- a note that none of my family had access to for about 24 hours or so after we found out what had happened. Chances were that he was intoxicated, due to the location he was found, though we haven’t gotten back the toxicology report yet to confirm this. The day before, one of my aunts had called the police to do a welfare check on him, as he wasn’t answering his phone. Five minutes later, the officer she’d gotten in contact with responded- a time short enough for us to believe that the officer(s) involved in the welfare check were negligent. My personal opinion, though biased, is that since he had been arrested before (not for any sort of major charges to my knowledge), the police were starting to be tired of him, and think of him almost as a nuisance. Like I said, however, this is just my opinion.

People with addictions need to be treated as what they are- people. Good or bad or anything in between, everyone deserves to get treatment for an addiction, and to have their health taken care of. Otherwise, the consequences can hurt not just the person themselves, and not just the people who love them, but our entire society as a whole.

Rest in peace, Papa, and happy birthday. I love you, and I hope you knew that. 🤍

Okay I just- I really wanted to thank you guys for everything with the last few doodles I posted. As of rn, a sh!tpost I did has 18 likes and 5 WHOLE REBLOGS. I know that might not seem like much to some people but to me that means literally everything and I love you all so much 😭🫶🫶🫶

Gladly! :3 they’re all incredibly disorganized half-formed thoughts btw, sooo fair warning that it’s a bit chaotic TvT

Each character has attacks related to their flower and likely either has their assigned flower in their hair or a flower crown of said flower. Personally, I like to imagine that Sunny and Basil would be the only ones to have flower crowns. 

Basil’s headspace is very different than Sunny’s. All the characters are their current ages. Aubrey is a frequent character Basil has to battle, though you always end up losing to her, or refusing to do damage. Depending on what’s happening outside of headspace, Kel sometimes aids in battles and is the one who urges Basil to fight Aubrey back. Hero is elsewhere in headspace, doing his own thing (idrk what to do about him, but he probably comes back when he visits from college). Mari isn’t exactly gone, but she’s not there as a normal character. Sometimes, her spirit is glimpsed, just like how it is in Sunny’s headspace. 

Unlike Sunny’s headspace being warm and happy and friendly, Basil’s is much darker. As if how Sunny couldn’t think of the Mari’s death and repressed it entirely, Basil could hardly stop thinking about it. Maybe the entire thing is monochrome except for his flowers. 

All the other characters have lost their flowers, and have either grown monochrome or a different color than their own. Each boss defeated (and the bosses aren’t fun and cool like Sunny’s; they’re more like the Somethings/phobias), Basil collects a new flower; one for each of his friends. Kel’s cactus is first, then Hero’s rose, then Aubrey’s gladiolus. 

I’m just gonna come up with some plot points for the three days from Basil’s POV if he had a headspace. On the final night, Basil’s headspace goes full nightmare-mode, partially why Basil is still awake on the final night. The nightmare kind of bleeds into reality as hallucinations, aka the Somethings. If Sunny doesn’t save Basil, the nightmare takes over, and… Well, you know what happens next. If Sunny DOES save Basil, Basil sees Sunny as Something, and Basil fights it, trying to stab the Something in the eye. Of course, he ends up stabbing SUNNY’S eye. Basil realizes what he’s done, and stabs himself. He ends up in headspace again. Headspace Sunny finds him, and leads him to the orchid flower, which is guarded by Something (both his own and Sunny’s, though kind of merged and shifting forms). They try to fight it, and eventually Basil realizes that he can’t. The way isn’t to fight the Something- instead, it’s just to calm down, hold each others’ hands, and trust in each other. Good ending, Something fades away, and they both water the orchid together with their tears, and the flower blooms. Bad end, Sunny fades away, leaving Basil to water it on his own, with his tears, but as his tears aren’t enough to fully water the flower.
