As a Ukrainian fan of VC, I am very disappointed with the plot twist of the series. Of course, this could be predicted, but I hoped to the last that Armand's Ukrainian origin would be reflected at least in the series. It is very bitter that even in the 21st century, in a series that positions itself as modern and tolerant, Ukraine was again erased from history and canon.

They turned a blind eye to Ukraine. Again. And this is right now, when the genocide of the Ukrainian people and culture is taking place. They play up the narrative of a non-existent Ukraine, a Ukraine that invisible to the world.

What is the best way to financially help Ukraine? Is it better to go through organizations or gofundmes or something else I'm not aware of?

Stand for Ukraine gives you a range of charity options, depending on whether you want to donate directly to the military, or you would prefer to fund non-lethal or humanitarian aid, etc.

Come Back Alive is the main fundraising platform for the Ukrainian military. You can choose to donate to air defense, heavy weapons, demining, medical aid, overall combat equipment, etc.

Donate to Ukraine's Defenders also offers various (carefully vetted) links and options to donate to rebuilding projects, private medical assistance programs, initiatives for democracy, and others.

One of the biggest issues of moving to England as a person who is Ukrainian AND neurodivergent is not knowing how to answer the small talk question of "how are you", but today I was reminded that Ukrainian blessed me with the phrase that roughly translates as "living is hard but dying would be a pity" and can we please naturalise it so I can use it all day every day

Alexandre Serebriakoff, watercolours of Château de Groussay (France). Serebriakoff (1907-1995) was a Ukrainian-born watercolour artist who lived and worked most of his life in France. He developed contacts with French and English high society, and made watercolour albums depicting the richly furnished interiors of French chateaux and London flats, so-called Zimmerbilden or portraits d'intérieur. It was once a popular and charming genre of art, of which older examples are often of interest for the cultural historian, but has faded from the mainstream. Serebriakoff was one of the last masters of the genre.

Про важливість укрліт мемів

Короткий тред про укрліт меми. Одразу попереджаю: я не проводила досліджень, а просто пишу те, що думаю. Як людина, яка часто створює меми про укрліт та мові, гадаю, маю право.

Отже, якби меми існували, коли я готувалась до ЗНО, я б склала його ще краще. Скільки балів я набрала скажу пізніше, а поки поговоримо про меми.

Що це таке всі знають: яскрава дотепна картинка з коротким влучним надписом. Саме на меми ми звертаємо увагу більше, ніж на текстові пости (хоча є винятки). Меми про укрліт з’явились ще в одній російській соцмережі. Звідти вони пішли в фейсбук, інстаграм та твіттер. Існував великий та цікавий акавнт у твіттері, зараз неактивний, на жаль.

Меми використовують для поширення важливих зборів, що там вже казати про літературу. Однак літературні меми сприяють кращому засвоєнню інформації. Наприклад, якщо прочитати «Кайдашеву сім’ю», а потім поглянути на меми, то краще запам’ятаєш хто є хто і хто саме де втопився чи яке дерево засохло.

До речі, здається, саме з Кайдашами найбільше мемів. Здогадатися чому неважко. Сам сюжет прямо кричить про меми, а ілюстрації Базилевича додають бажання створювати жарти. Це ж стосується «Енеїди».

А як же важкі твори, твори серйозні, трагічні? Їх в українській літературі чи не найбільше. Звичайно ж тут меми робити важче, однак можливо. Можна посміятися з імен літературних героїв чи їхніх безглуздих вчинків. Чи, зрештою, пригадати щось про самого автора.

Такі меми допомагають посміятися над тим, що раніше викликало у нас журбу та навіть завдало психологічних травм. Привіт, «Федько-Халамидник». Але жартувати з такими творами треба обережно.  Ба навіть з такими постатями як Хвильовий чи Стус, чия доля, без сумніву, тяжка, є меми.

Найбільш мемна постать укрліт — Тарас Шевченко. Звісно, він найпопулярніший поет, однак хіба його твори комедійні (є винятки), вони ж такі глибокі та серйозні! Однак його образ, його стиль, його картини, його доля, рядки з його віршів — меми. Знамениті: «як умру, то пох», «немає долі» тому приклад. Шевченко — це непочатий край для мемів та жартів. Жартів різних, але таких, аби точно не образити нашого Кобзаря.

Замало мемів про твори Кулішів (обох), Карпенко-Карого, Старицького, Багряного, Кобилянську, Костенко та інших. Найпопулярніший мем з Багряним створений вже давно, але його досі поширюють. Це ще одне свідчення того, що меми про укрліт важливі та майже такі ж безсмертні як твори, на основі яких зроблені.

Звичайно, ви можете сказати, що меми не несуть в собі нічого корисного і треба читати книжку. Треба читати! Читати треба! Однак візуальне сприйняття та смішний жарт при цьому допоможуть учням. Меми ж не лише несуть освітню мету (здебільшого не несуть взагалі, якщо так подумати), а популяризують щось, змушують усміхнутися чи аж зареготати. Літературні — популяризують літературу, українську літературу, на уроках з якої буває… так нудно!

Ще один сучасний спосіб прищепити любов та популяризувати укрліт — фанфіки. Але про них поговоримо якось пізніше. Дякую за увагу.

Tho, it shows western view very accurate. Would an American vampiress know that Ukrainians speak Ukrainian (what a surprise)? Would a nazi know that Ukrainians speak Ukrainian? I think we all know the answer. It would be a dark irony, but I think showrunners eather didn't know...

I'm also very sour abot tolstoy's full screan cameo, but well... At least they showed true ruzzians - how they were through WWII and how nothing changed. But still... It's so westerned. Oooh, look, they kill and torture innocent people, what a fascinating rotten creatures, let's show tolstoy's book.

Still, it would be nice to see Kyivan Armand, as he meant to be in the books. But well... At least they romanticized nazis, not ruzzis. It's a progress...
