i need to say a thing
i was reading The Catcher In the Rye during the same time as i first watched Dead Poets Society and drew the following parallels:
both take place during the 50s.
the parallels between Charlie and Holden are crazy
both were expelled from a fancy prep school in America
rich parents
chaotically bisexual
didn’t quite flunk English
had someone close to them pass away
smoke a whole lot
also
i can totally see Charlie doing whatever Holden did
i can also totally see them becoming pals
BECAUSE JUST IMAGINE IF they take place in the same universe, they could perhaps run into each other and bond over their trauma and smoke cigs and drink till they pass out. they would totally, 100% like each others company and be out there doing some illegal shit together.
what i’m saying is, this is an amazing crossover that i would very much love to read, i wanna see these two interact in some way, that would be so cool, perhaps an alternate universe where they just fuck off together and become cowboys riding into the sunset or some shit idk i just want them to meet somehow
I feel like everyone on tumblr is just the same person in slightly different fonts. Like we all love books, simp over fictional characters, want to live in a cottage in the woods, want to learn old forgotten languages, love kitties, know specific details about random stuff, like pretty rocks, want to run in an empty castle wearing a gown, love taylor swift and lorde and hozier, are anxious and mildy sad, love iced coffee or tea, and are sick of waiting for our teenage dream.
Ps ~this isn't me trying to generalize, it's just an observation lmao.
DEAD POETS SOCIETY (1989, dir. Peter Weir) V FOR VENDETTA (2005, dir. James McTeigue)
YEAH BUT THIS ONE WILL BE DIFFERENT
me: i’ve got another idea for a fic
them: you literally have seven unfinished works
me:
so i’ve seen a lot of these going round, and in honor of fanfic appreciation day i’m going to jump on the bandwagon and share my fic rec list! these are the ones i always love to come back to. they’re all super talented and brilliant - check them out! in no particular order:
a river to skate away on by @frostysunflowers - the best memory loss fic out there, period. incredible writing and fantastic characterization!
turn back the clock (and i’ll try again in the morning) by @madasthesea - time loop plus identity reveal equals fanfiction gold. i have reread this an embarrassing amount of times: the angst is absolutely supreme, and the resolution is immensely satisfying!
alucinari by celluloid - a fantastic fic exploring the effect of ffh on peter. it’s a little dark, but incredibly well written!
runaway by spectra - irondad is upped to the max when peter runs away from home. it’s a cool concept, and executed brilliantly!
when in doubt just keep the faith by sparrowflight246 - this is one of my favorite biodad fics of all time. it’s supremely angsty, but the comfort is well worth it!
goner by @emkayohh / camelotqueen - peter goes after a serial killer in queens. one of the best kidnap fics out there, imo!
let’s kick it by @too-many-bees / civilbores - peter gets an alien disease and deals with it spectacularly badly. amazing hurt/comfort and a fab conclusion
it wasn’t you by @losingmymindtonight - i’m a sucker for fics like these, and this is a shining example. supremely good whump and recovery
the entirety of @tempestaurora‘s whumpvember series - there’s not much i can say that the series doesn’t say for itself: this is one of the best 30-day whump challenges i’ve ever read! each part has incredible effort put into it, and stands alone extremely well
i’ll always find you in the drift by @tempestaurora - this is a crossover with pacific rim, but even if you’re unfamiliar with it this fic is still a fantastic ride and deserves more attention. the characterization is perfect, and it’s filled with brilliant cameos
five times peter parker pretended to be asleep by @blondsak - all-around incredible 5+1 featuring the amazingly-characterized avengers, and great irondad! awesome blend of angst and humor
what if there is no tomorrow? by @iron–spider - it’s another time loop, but this time tony’s inside it. it’s a brilliant reworking of the groundhog day trope to fit mcu characters, and it keeps amazingly well to the original film’s tone
brooklyn by @hailing-stars - i’m usually not a fan of bad guy may stories, but this fic absolutely knocks it out of the park. it also carries a healthy dose of ironmom! (note: this is part six of a series, which is fantastic and sets up this story.)
don’t leave me now by @iron–spider - peter thinks he’s losing his powers, and it leads to a whole lot of fantastic hurt/comfort. one of my favorite fics!
i’m probably guaranteed to have forgotten a bunch of my other favorites on here, but i encourage you to read all these and give the authors some love! happy fanfic appreciation day. 💕
I have literally seen Spiderman Homecoming at least 6 times in theater…
que democracia mais capenga essa dos Estados Unidos
American students, do you really enjoy studying northen-american literature? So far I've read "The Catcher in the Rye" and I'm almost done with "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", and I honestly believe that american characters are much more relatable with the brazillian ones. I mean, I totally respect Machado de Assis and I recognize the importance of José de Alencar to our literature, but honestly, Holden Caulfield and Tom Sawyer are much more interesting than Brás Cubas and Iracema...
I honestly hope You won't be extended to a fifth, sixth or seventh season. I hope the fourth one will be the last. Enough is enough. I never once hated Joe Goldberg since season one, but the third one, the ending, like ugh... I can't. For me, at the least, he has to be caught and convicted. For Beck, Love, Peach (I hated her), Benji... how the fuck does he get away with it?
