Well, what if the adult he once knew was wrong, and didn't have the chance or idea to explore their gender? How would he react then if the skeleton kept saying it as they matured?

Even if they don't have any changes like being or not being trans or having a different sexual orientation, as previously asked, he knows they will not be the exact same as they were before. Their life experiences have changed, which means there will be changes. Regardless, he still loves them, and he will love whoever they grow up to be. He already considers them his, and that will never change.

Knowing that, take whatever scenarios you want and apply. Is the person in question one of his idiots? Yes? Then that person will always be one of his idiots, no matter who they are, change to be, or what happens to them. And to make it clear, if he feels there is a need to guide or redirect, it would be gentle. If he realizes they are correct and he is not, then he will adjust.
