This is James Potter asking Lily out for the 12th time that week

Parent-teacher interviews the year before The Four Horsemen of The Apocalyse (TFHTA) Remus had off handedly mentioned to Minerva, while trying to stop the most shit eating grin form, that the quadruplets looked up to Barty and James. Minerva paled dramatically, rethinking all her life decisions that could have made her deserve this.

Also, I could so see their look alikes clinging to someone else.

Like baby 1# (Sirius look alike) is obsessed with Peter, much too Sirius' dismay. Sirius was quite literally crying in the corner for hours when he realised that mini him would rather be with Peter.

Though Sirius got the twins instead, which he was very pleased about, because he got to watch Lily's eye twitch when the twins wanted to spend time with Sirius on his magic infused muggle technology.

They are all Remus kids, though. They are all unintentionally sucking up to him, and they don't even realise it. Regulus will be jaw dropped every single time the kids will do something for Remus just by him giving them a look, not even asking just looking, while he had to ask them for 3 days before they even considered to do what Regulus had asked.

#1 is fucking Sirius, but that was to be expected, the black brothers look like twins, Reg's looks and Remus' mischief, natural

#2 gets Remus' pretty curly brown hair, quickly develops Reg's love for quidditch, and it's not until they're walking in Diagon Alley and someone asks if they're babysitting harry that they realize POTTER CLONED HIMSELF AGAIN, IN THEIR OWN CHILD

Peter is forever sad that he doesn't get his own twin, keeps begging moonwater to try for another but they're too scared (actual reason he became a traitor)

Ok but what if they did end up having more kids than the Weasley's, but it was purely on accident, but not at the same time.

Baby 1# Mini Sirius (the tall version)

Baby 2# Mini James 2.0 (the short version)

Baby 3# Mini Peter (the prettier version)

Baby 4# to everyone's horror looks a little too much like Barty and got Regulus' stubbornness and most of Remus' batshit and self destructive personality traits.

Baby 5# and 6# twin girls, and Remus apparently has quite a few generational traits that he wasn't aware he could pass down because they essentially are carbon copies of Lily in appearance, but 5# personality is Regulus and 6# is Remus personality wise.

Sirius is upset because both Lily and James got two mini versions of themselves, and he's only got one. Peter is happy with his one mini him and doesn't understand what Sirius is on about.

Regulus and Remus decided to have one more kid to tie up with the Weasley's and because both Regulus and James, along with Marlene and Sirius, insisted that they should create a family quidditch team.

Baby 7#, 8#, 9#, 10# quadruplets, Remus doesn't think he'd ever been more mad at Regulus for knocking him up than when he found out he was going to be having quadruplets. He honestly didn't think he could do it, though, and frankly, he was scared. Before his mum passed, he'd hear the story about how her own mum couldn't handle giving birth and passed along with the 4 babies.

They are identical, and they look like Remus with Regulus' grey eyes and lip shape, Poppy lucked out. The quadruplets also ended up in different houses and are constantly switching places. They spent too much of their childhood with James.

Headcannons for the family lives of each marauders (please be reminded these are my headcannons and any hate will cause an argument from me 🫶)

James: happy loving parents but not all the time, families always have flaws the potters are just better at hiding them. He would argue with his dad a lot over stupid things but James never hated his dad

Sirius + regulus: of course the abusive Walburga and Orion BUT I like to think that when they were younger Walburga was kinder to them but was then placed under the imperious curse by Orion to keep her in line, and to discipline there children better

Peter: BIG family, kind of an opposite Weasley family, five sister and Peter is the only boy. I like to headcannon on of his sisters was deaf and non magic so she was less loved by her family but her and Peter were reallly close. Peter is the middle child, three older, two younger. His father is not in the picture, left when Peter was 7.

Remus: farm family, literally grew up on a farm and had like two horses, cows and chickens. His dad worked all the time and his mum was stayed home and took care of the animals. Remus was closer to his mum because he barely saw his dad but in the 6th year she got six and the year after they graduated she passed.

Marlene: child of divorce, (She jokes about it a lot) parents divorced on good terms but don’t keep them in the same room for long because they will argue. Has two older brothers that raised her when he parents were fighting

Mary: raised by her dad, only child, her mother passed away and severe complications during the pregnancy and birth. Her dad always would treat her like a princess but they did not grow up rich, her father balanced two jobs and taking care of Mary. He got a lot of help from grandma MacDonald

Lily: her and petunia were close, REALLY close and were all aware of them splitting apart after Lily was sent to Hogwarts. But I like to think they didn’t just, minimise contact. Petunia despised her so much that as soon as she could cut Lily out completely, that’s why she hated Harry so much. But deep down she still loved her sister,

Barty: absolutely despised his dad. (In a muggle au I enjoy him having severe religious trauma and that’s why he despised his dad so much, probs will write some short about this), his mum was completely corrupted by his dad and always listened and believed everything he said. Barty still loved his mum, he knew that she wasn’t really like that, it’s his dad’s fault.

Evan + Pandora: parents were very together but Pandora was raised as a princess, learning how to be a good housewife and a perfect mother, while Evan learned the “manlier stuff” (which I cannot think of right now so use your imagination). The Two grew up very differently from eachother, so they never had a strong relationship, but they learned bro be siblings over time

Dorcas: another child of divorce, probably why Marlene and her clicked so well. The only difference is that Dorcas parents divorced when she was really young while Marlene was older. Dorcas always favoured her dad over her mum but they both were severly flawed.

I wrote a Jegulus fanfiction for my English short story thinking my teacher wouldn’t know what the marauders were but she came up to me giving me feedback and said “maybe this is just my fanfiction brain” and then she said “maybe discuss some of there years at Hogwarts” and I genuinely have no idea what I felt in my moment but afterwards I could not stop giggling

I’ve made one of my friends who doesn’t know shit about the marauders read art heist baby during a cyclone while her power is out, I haven’t gotten any confirmation if she enjoys yet but once I do I will update.

Not to mention, you have the narrative struggle of being pulled in two different directions.

Tom Riddle, as a half blood in Slytherin, is pulled between these two extremes of the wizarding world. Abraxas being the elitist pureblood rhetoric of protecting the status quo and Leach representing the muggleborn movement for equality.

If you want to draw an even bigger connection between Leach's fall and Voldemort's rise, you could say that Tom wanted to believe that things could change. He wanted to believe Leach could do it. And when it didn't happen...well it's time for Riddle to take the reins and force the purebloods to change it themselves.

Riddle: You want to uphold the status quo? Well I'm gonna hold it up SO HIGH you'll beg for me to stop.

And they did.

I mean when you look at Voldemort's ranks it really shows just how much he's likely changed the concept of blood purity.

I mean, would post-Grindelwald purebloods be willing to work with werewolves, vampires, giants, etc? I doubt it. And then you have the half bloods who joined.

Would those post-Grindelwald wizards turn against eachother and actively torture and kill other purebloods (ex. The Longbottoms) from their already limited gene pool? I very much doubt that.

Voldemort limited the concept of blood purity to be against muggleborns and anyone who disagrees with Voldemort. And you can even argue that he would welcome muggleborns since he canonically attempted to get Lily Evan's on his side.

Riddle over here sneakily making the Death Eaters more tolerant by upholding the status quo he defined and placing all of his supporters on an equal level when it came to receiving his approval and being in danger of wizard jail.

So I suppose Riddle found a middle ground after all.

Its supremely unfair how under utilized Nobby Leach is in fanfic.

He's a blank slate! The 1st Muggleborn British Minister of Magic but we know very little about him personally or even the circumstances of his election.

Voldemort rose to power in the late 60s-early 70s. Leach was minister sometime between 1962-68. And Leach was supposedly threatened from returning to his position or possibly assassinated.

Do you think poor, working-class, assumed Mudblood of Slytherin Tom Riddle didn't see these shady dealings and go "Okay so taking the legal route to power won't work."

If having power was Tom's only goal then he absolutely would've taken a quicker route to it. But instead Nobby Leach's failure just proved the system was too broken to fix from the inside.

(Quick disclaimer, I think Riddle only used the blood-purity thing to get an in with the purebloods who were running the country. There are better posts that expand on this idea in detail so I'm not going to get into it too much here. Okay? Okay.)

We know so little about Leach that he could conceivably have gone to Hogwarts at the same time as Tom Riddle. Did they know eachother? That's up to you, but if they went to school together then they definitely knew OF eachother.

So here you have Nobby Leach who hit the ground running after graduation, who clawed his way to being the FIRST muggleborn Minister of Magic in a government made up of bloodpurists, and then he just...resigned? Fuck that. That doesn't fit at all.

And anyone with half a brain would've picked up on that. Tom Riddle could not have missed how uncharacteristic this would be if he knew Leach, or heck just noticed the sheer will and patience it takes to become THE Muggleborn Minister of Magic.

On that note, there might've been some sort of Muggleborn movement happening in the background following Grindelwald's defeat. After all it takes more than one person to achieve this kind of victory.

So Tom Riddle watches (or is apart of 👀) a fast-paced, determined movement place the FIRST Muggleborn Minister of Magic and then watches as this victory silently tumbles down into forgotten history.

Meanwhile Tom builds the Death Eaters who also work outside the system via raids and murder despite the fact that they all work inside of it already. Theres already lots to unpack with THAT decision but moving on... Once the Ministry finally gets its shit together and arrests the (clearly labeled with Dark Marks) perpetrators, throwing them in wizard prison eventually reaching the point where they would be thrown in without a trial (Sirius Black), the Pureblood lawmakers all of a sudden realize "oh fuck, this is getting real."

And now what do they have to do to avoid suspicion in this very Red Scare-esque era of spying and tattling on eachother (it worked for Karkaroff) to avoid wizard prison? Play nice with the Muggleborns.

TL;DR

Nobby Leach: went the legitimate route to making change by working WITHIN the system. He rose fast and fell silently.

Tom Riddle: went the shady route to power by working OUTSIDE the system, painstakingly working for decades to build a support base, and falling in notoriety.

There needs to be more fics with them as foils to eachother. And if it has to be me, I warn you it will take YEARS to finish.

Prompt: Quaint

The man in the portrait casually leaned against the golden frame. He eyed Marlene suspiciously; his narrow, dark eyes followed the movement of her quill. He had raised his eyebrows and stretched his head to get a better view of her chart as if he could look straight through her. Like an exam invigilator, he hovered behind her, which sent cold shivers down her spine. 

Afraid to make a sound, she nudged Lily under the table and nodded towards the portrait. 

"Do you see that guy over there?" she whispered. 

"Who? Black? Yeah, he's been staring for a while," Lily shrugged. She had barely looked up from the paper to notice him. 

"Not Sirius," she replied loud enough for the professor to raise their head.

"Uhhhh," Lily looked intrigued, "already on first-name terms. Suddenly, he's 'Sirius'."

She mustered the four boys at the table conspicuously until Sirius and James caught her watching, and they had to suppress to burst out laughing in the classroom. 

The wizard in the portrait cleared his throat loudly and began walking up and down the painting. His shoes made a clicking sound with every step. That was when Lily finally noticed him. 

"You have another admirer," Lily giggled, "creepy portrait guy. Looks like Venus is totally in your favour this month." 

"Ms Evans and Ms McKinnon, five points from Gryffindor for chatting in class," the professor said without looking up from their newspaper, "I'm sure you are still missing the descending houses in your chart." 

"We were just talking about Venus in the 8th house, professor," Marlene replied seriously, which nearly sent Lily into a laughing fit, "we were wondering what impact Venus had on relationships." 

"Oh yes, interesting," the professor folded his paper, "Venus in the house of Transformation, Death, Possession and Intimacy. The time for passionate love, that new beginning after a breakup, the deep connection with each other." 

Lily raised her eyebrows and nodded in Sirius' direction. 

"But beware!" the professor continued, "it's also the time for the big mysteries in life, the time for lurking strangers in the dark and healing from hardship. Very well, Ms McKinnon 10 points to Gryffindor."  

"Very well, Ms McKinnon," Lily repeated mockingly, "thank you for sharing your love life with us." 

Marlene rolled her eyes and threw a piece of parchment at her, "Èist do bheul!"

"Oh, be quiet yourself. Now that you know you're in for passionate love, why not ask him out?"

"Only if you finally go out with that Potter guy," Marlene made a couple of kissing sounds. 

"Urgh, I'd rather go on a date with that creepy portrait guy; that mysterious stranger lurking in the dark." 

"Quiet! Or I'll take another 5 points off Gryffindor!" the professor warned them, and they spent the rest of the lesson quietly completing their astrology charts. 

When the lesson was finished and the girls packed their stuff, James, Sirius, Remus and Peter approached their table. 

Lily dove out of the way and left the room as quickly as possible, leaving Marlene alone with the boys. Sirius grinned obnoxiously with that air of haughtiness as he leaned against her table and blocked the way to the door. 

"I was wondering if you still need help with Venus in your 8th house", he smirked. 

Marlene shouldered her bag, crossed her arms and raised her eyebrows. The other boys were already in stitches with laughter. 

"As it happens, Scorpio is the ruler of the 8th house, and I should know all about that." 

Marlene burst out laughing, "That's the quaintest pickup line I've ever heard!" 

Sirius raised his eyebrows, too, tilted his head and said, "But did it work?"
