(Sexual Inferences, manipulation, depression, suicidal thoughts, major character death, Lancelot, Klance)
It was silent in the castle and Lance is missing, and they had no lead on where Lotor had taken Lance nor what he was to do with him. They didn’t talk too much and none of them wanted to until they found Lance.
-meanwhile-
“Shit!”
The Blue Paladin was thrown onto the floor with no defenses other than his armor once again. Eventually hung left waiting to be questioned. Lotor thankfully chose to train Lance himself. No one tried to interfere with the ‘training’. Lotor rather took Lance to his room and put Lance on a collar and gave him beautiful golden chains and jewelry training him but it was all mental.
Manipulating his mind to feel intense hatred for Voltron and his place on the team. It was probably a week of torture till Lance finally let Lotor hold him and twirl his hair. Soon leading to long nights of warm baths and tending to wounds from physical training. Drowning in pits of water letting the burn slowly become craved sensations. Sleeping together became natural with tangled limbs on the covers and gold flakes everywhere.
The two had just gotten out of the shower from training, Lance throwing on a tight jumpsuit designed specifically for him to be an assistant during training. Lotor was sitting in his chair brushing out his long locks as Lance made his way over to braid his hair.
“Lotor guess what?”
“What Lance?”
“I can make things now!”
Lotor smiled as Lance sat on his lap hands linked around Lotor neck,” Look.”
Lance winked and a beautiful flower appeared in mid-air soon transforming into a flower crown placed on Lotor’s head.
-Meanwhile-
Team Voltron finally had tracked down a base with a lifeform matching Lance’s figure and Blue along with Red urged everyone he was there. The Blade good with stealth came along on the mission in case this was going to harder than it already seemed. Keith, Krolia, and Kolivan were sent. The 7 rushed in undetected Pidge tracking Lance’s location in the base. They passed and checked every room as they raced through the halls.
-Back with Lance and Lotor-
Lance got up gold dangling from his forehead and ears, his beautiful designs were gorgeous. Lotor got up from his seat lifting Lance holding him. Lance, who of course kissed the Prince holding him wrapped his legs around Lotor’s torso. Lotor supported Lance by holding his backside and twirled him around, singing the melody an old Altean tune.
“Bedtime.”
Lance quickly curled into Lotor as the lights dimmed. Within what seemed like a minute the ship alarms were set off.
Lotor immediately grabbed two weapons handing one to Lance, “Lay down if they come in we can catch them off guard.”
Laying down the gunshots rose along with the noises of grunting.
Within 3 minutes there was slamming on the door and with seconds the door was down. The Paladins walked in to see the two cuddling.
Lotor squeezed Lance's thigh alerting him to attack. Lance gets up holding his gun and shoots at Kolivan who takes the chest shot. Everyone froze.
“Lance, what the hell?”
“How do you know my name?!?”
That’s when everything spun. Krolia sent a bullet flying towards Lotor and a scream shocked everyone as the bullet froze along with everything else.
Another shot fired hitting Lance in the abdomen who didn’t even flinch yet Keith shouted.
“Lance!”
Rushing over he picked up Lance, “Hey look at me.”
“Keith?”
Keith smiled tears falling suddenly shocked when a hand came up and smacked him hard, “Get the hell out of here. Don’t be stupid. Now, please.”
The Paladins and Lotor were holding aim at one another and Lance pulled out his gun and shot everyone’s weapons out of their hands including Lotor.
Within seconds Lance flung his arms and sighed his gun right in his hand the backside of the gun resting on Lance’s forehead as he shook his head, “God fuck this stupid war! Like honestly what does ruling the world solve, no one is a slave and no one owes anyone anything. Lotor your parents fucked with shit they shouldn’t have which should’ve resulted in their death. And no the planet should’ve have been destroyed but it came down to it. Why can’t you find quintessence without killing?”
The room grew quiet again. Lance dropped his gun and gripping his wound while still holding his composure.
Everything happened in a flash, Pidge and Hunk teamed up Hunk grabbing Lance while Pidge shot Lotor and everyone else running. Lance screamed. Cried. Fought. The sound brought everyone to their own tears filling their eyes, and the atmosphere grew unbearably heavy. Lance refused to eat or speak, told to hate Voltron he was utterly bewildered finding out he was a Paladin.
Sitting in his observatory with a blanket wrapped around him he struggled to wrap his head around what had happened. How has Lotor wipes all memory of him being a Paladin?
Coran opened the door, “Hey my boy how are you feeling?”
“How am I feeling? I feel like shit. I’m recovering from being shot and almost dying while having to push through the fact I fell in love with a guy who got killed right in front of me. I gave him my first. And I’ve been manipulated for months and trained and brainwashed Coran. So you wanna know how am I fucking feeling?”
Coran quietly and quickly wrapped his arms around Lance holding him tight.
“I’m sorry we didn’t find you soon enough, you didn’t deserve any of this.”
Lance felt tears whelm up and he just sobbed holding Coran tightly the entire team hearing the conversation felt an overwhelming amount of shame and remorse for their teammate as well joining the hug all in a pile. The BOM isn’t happy with Lance but understands the circumstances of what occurred.
-Weeks Later-
I still am trying to bond with the team but it’s difficult. I miss Lotor every day but Keith seems ten times better. Caring and deep down a good guy with a hard past who I can relate to.
Shiro helped me as well.
I’ve bonded with Hunk already and we are close once more.
Pidge and I are iffy we will talk but we’re nowhere near as close friends. She killed my first real love.
Allura didn’t talk to me the first two days but eventually, she hugged me and we sat down talking about everything that I went through.
Coran and I are as close as can be and I constantly go to him for guidance.
I feel better but still, I don’t think I’ll ever recover from something like this. Maybe I’ll kill myself, I know that’s something apparently I wanted to do back on Earth.

Chapter 6: Decorated The cleanup had been humiliating. Hours after he had been left in that sorry state, another one of Lotor’s generals had entered the room. Tall and sleek, with an oddly colored pattern on her face, she wrinkled her nose in disgust as she approached the mortified paladin. “I’ve been asked to do a lot of things since I’ve worked for Lotor, but this might be one of the worst.” Zethrid walked in after her, looking irritated “Stop complaining. Ezor, I’m the one who has to clean him up, your job is to spruce him up when I’m done.” She reached down and dragged Lance up by his hair, recoiling slightly when she saw his face. Lance held on to her wrist, trying to keep on his feet. His throat hurt and his face stung from all the blows Lotor had inflicted upon him, but he would gladly deal with the pain if it meant he didn’t have to be seen like this. Noticing that Lance was on his feet, Zethrid shoved him forward, leading him out of the room and down the hallway, with Ezor following slowly behind, her arms clasped behind her head. Keeping his head bowed, Lance didn’t immediately notice when they had entered a new room. It was only when he heard the footsteps come to a halt, that he looked up. He was standing in a beautiful, brightly lit bathroom. An enormous tub, the size of a small pond took up the entire back part of the room while the left wall was covered in gleaming counter space. On the right wall were several mounted shelves filled with all sorts of toiletries and products, and below that was a clean porcelain toilet, surround by even more counter space. If Lance wasn’t in his current situation, he would have been itching to try this place out, but instead all he felt was fear. This was the first time he had been in this bathroom and so far, experience had told him that when Lotor was involved, new situations were never good. He stopped and looked hesitantly back at Zethrid and Ezor. “What are we doing here?” he asked, nervously shifting his weight between each leg. Zethrid tsked, approaching the tub, “Lotor has ordered us to clean you up.” she replied as she turned the nozzle, allowing the tub to fill up. She grabbed a few bottles and placed three of them on the brim of the bathtub and opened the tops of the rest, placing a few drops of each into the heated water. The moment it was full, Zethrid turned off the nozzle and shoved Lance forward, and he stumbled against the brim, falling to his knees. “Strip,” she ordered, and Lance felt his cheeks grow hot. “Here…in front of you?” he asked gripping the edges of his ruined cloth. It had been hard enough to be forcibly stripped by Lotor, everything that had been done to him so far was degrading and uncomfortable, but it was all done by Lotor, another man, the idea that he was to strip down in front of two girls was much harder for him to stomach. “Of course here, now stop asking questions, strip down and get in the bath. Or am I gonna have to force you?” Zethrid asked, balling her hands into fists, putting them up threateningly. Lance hesitated and then gripped the edges of the silk wrap, sliding it off of his waist and letting the soiled fabric fall to the floor. Cheek red, he covered his dick anxiously with his hands and slipped into the bathtub, crouching down in an effort to hide his length. Despite the situation, Lance let out a soft moan and closed his eyes as his aching muscles began to relax. It had been ages since he was able to properly bath and after everything he had experience, it felt good. He didn’t have long to enjoy it however, as Zethrid suddenly crouched down beside him, grabbing one of the other bottles. He tensed and watched carefully as she squirted some soap into a sponge and began to lather it up, squeezing it between her fingers. For a moment, Lance thought she was going to hand it to him, but without warning, she reached forward, grabbing him by the upper arm. He let out a yelp and he couldn’t help but flinch and pull away, causing her to tighten her grip and yank him back. Lance trembled in her grasp and Ezor, who had been watching from the corner, sighed and kneeled down beside Zethrid. “He’s kinda jumpy isn’t he? I thought he was the blue paladin.” Zethrid, keeping a firm grip on Lance’s upper arm, began to scrub at his skin ignoring his protests, “For the past week and a half, he’s been Lotor’s plaything, how the hell would you be acting right now?” Grimacing at the thought, Ezor stood up and nodded, “Alright, I get it. I’m gonna go get set up, Lotor wants him prepared for the video feed, so bring him in when you’re done.” Zethrid nodded and Ezor stood up and left the room as the other general began to scrub away the dried vomit and piss from Lance’s face and neck. When he was finally washed, Lance was pulled out of the tub and dried off. He had to admit that it felt nice to be clean, but he was more anxious than ever before. ‘What the hell did that girl mean by prepared and what video feed?’ So many questions buzzed in his mind but he wasn’t given any time to voice them as Zethrid yanked off his towel and pulled him out into the hallway, leading him to yet another new room. In a futile attempt to keep himself covered, Lancc walked slightly hunched, hands cupped around his member, but before he knew it, he was shoved into a much darker and smaller room. The floors and walls were black and an overhead light was shining brightly down upon a metal, salon style chair, adorned with thick leather straps, grafted in the direct center of the room. It was this that Ezor stood next to, fingers drumming over a covered tray. Lance’s heart leapt into his throat and he tried desperately to wrench his arms out of Zethrid’s grip to no avail. “Get the hell off of me! What is this?” he spat, as the general shoved him into the chair. Ezor sighed and began strapping the blue paladin in, “Zethrid, can you gag him or something. I honestly don’t want my eardrums blown out when I start piercing him.” Fear and dread washed over Lance at the smaller general’s words, “p-piercing?” he repeated, gulping down the bile that threatened to bubble over. “I don’t know what you-” he froze and his eyes widened as Ezor lifted the top off the tray revealing an assortment or needles, next to which was a bowl of intricately designed jewelry. “N-no!” he stuttered, struggling beginning anew. “No please, I’ll do anything, I’ll…” he bit his lips, fresh tears prickling at the corner of his eyes. If Keith saw him begging like that, he would probably be disgusted. Zethrid suddenly began wrapping a harness, complete with a medical gag, around his face, shoving the metallic piece past his lips. Unable to close his mouth, drool began to pour down his chin and his eyes bulged in fear. Though he couldn’t speak, the gag did little to stifle his sobs, and he watched in terror, legs shaking uncontrollably as Ezor picked up a pair of piercing forceps and approached him slowly. Picking up the first and smallest of the needles, she clamped the forceps onto his left earlobe before placing the needle in the direct center. Lance tried to pull away but Zethrid grabbed him by the hair holding him steady. His body jolted as Ezor pushed the needle through his skin and a layer of goosebumps broke out along his arms. Picking up a small golden ring adorned with tiny blue sapphires, Ezor pulled the needle through his ear and pushed in the gold ring clamping it into to place. Lance squirmed in his seat as his earlobe began to grow hot. It didn’t hurt too bad, but the shock of being pierced without his consent was enough to send a fresh wave of tears pouring down his face. Ignoring the blue paladin’s obvious distress, Ezor picked up a matching stud and placed the needle an inch above the previous piercing. Working diligently, over the next twenty minutes, she slowly mapped out his ears. On the left; the golden ring, topped with two matching sapphire studs, half an inch apart. Around the the shell of his ear were four golden studded rings, ending in a point. On the right; a single sapphire stone was placed at the tip of his cartilage, connected to a golden chain which ended in a glittering dangly collection off golden ropes, ending with sapphire stars. When it was over, Lance was relieved. The pain hadn’t been too bad and he looked expectantly up at the two generals expecting to be released. His hopes were quickly dashed when Ezor picked up another needle, and the color drained from his face when she clamped the forceps at the bridge of his nose. Letting out a soft whimper as a small trickle of drool began to drip from his open mouth once again, he braced himself for the what was to come. This time the pain was much sharper and his back arched slightly as she pierced the needle through his skin, sliding in a pointed tipped golden bar. Please, he thought desperately, shutting his eyes tightly, let it be over. Just let this end. His eyes shot open as Ezor pushed the forceps through the medical gag, clamping it tightly around his tongue. “N-nnngh,” he shook his head in protest but once again, Ezor showed no signs of remorse as she placed a much thicker needle on his tongue, suddenly sinking it through the thick muscle. The pain was much more intense and he sobbed, tugging fruitlessly at his binds. She placed another similarly themed ring through the hole and released the clamps. Lance’s pain didn’t end for another two hours. Working quickly, Ezor pierced snake bites through his lips, a golden sun through his septum, and four sapphire stars above each eyebrow. His nipples were pierced and connected by a golden chain which dangled down, leading to nothing in particular and his navel was pierced with another sapphire ball. A small collection of bloody tissues and used needles sat in a large bowl and only one needle and one piercing remained. Lance was laying motionless in the chair, drool pouring openly from his mouth, his eyes fixed on nothing in particular. “We’re almost done,” Ezor exclaimed, and Lance turned his head to fix her with a watery stare. He swallowed thickly and nodded, feeling exhausted and eager for the pain to end. However, the moment the forceps clamped around the head of his cock, a fresh wave of panic set in and his bloodshot eyes widened in fear. A thicker, slightly more heavyset needle was placed through the hole and ignoring his whimpers, she shoved it through. The pain was excruciating and it tore a silent scream from his throat. Taking advantage of the paladin’s shock, Ezor pushed through another golden piercing, connecting it the the chain dangling from his nipples. Ezor sighed and began to clean up the mess, and Zethrid removed the gag from Lance’s mouth and face. Chest heaving, and pain and heat blossoming in his reddened cock, Lance looked down, tears cascading down his cheeks and he sobbed in defeat. “Please…” he sobbed, “No more.” Previous Ao3 Link
Chapter Four Used Lance pulled desperately against his binds, pain blossoming in his already sore shoulders. He had to get out there, he just had to – the sound of footsteps, growing louder with each step echoed down the hallway, and panic rose in Lance’s throat when Lotor returned carrying a small, plastic bottle. No- nononono- Please- Lance thought desperately, squeezing his eyes shut. Gritting his teeth, tears leaked from the corner of his eyes, dripping down onto the pillows under his head.
Ignoring the blue paladin’s tears, Lotor ripped the rest of Lance’s ruined suit and tossed it aside, leaving Lance spread eagle, naked and exposed. He then quickly popped the top off of the bottle and squirted a liberal amount of warm, sticky fluid between Lance’s cheeks, grinning lustfully. The prince freed himself from his pants once more, pulling them down around his thighs and began using the head of his cock to rub the lube around Lance’s tight hole.
Lance’s eyes widened in fear, and he tensed up despite knowing he should relax to lessen the pain. Lotor chuckled and without a seconds thought, pushed the tip of his massive cock into Lance’s hole, marveling at its tightness. “Tell me, Blue,” he purred, sweat beading along his forehead, “how would you feel if I had the witch’s druids modify your body in order to bear offspring?” With a cruel laugh, he began to thrust, every bump and ridge rubbing against the paladin’s insides. It hurt. Every muscle in Lance’s body tensed painfully and he opened his mouth in a silent scream. At the prince’s words, tears openly poured from Lance’s eyes and his teeth ground together in an attempt to muffle the sound of pain that threatened to rip from inside him. Yet, despite his effort, it tore free past his lips, hurting his throat in the process until it was red raw. Beads of blood knitted together around the massive intrusion, and every thrust coated Lotor’s length in blood. I-I’m gonna tear…. Lance thought desperately, trying to think of anything else but what Lotor was saying.
Lotor shoved his knees underneath Lance, pushing his body upwards and straining the ropes in order to thrust in deeper. Noticing Lance’s distress and discomfort, he chuckled, “don’t fret young paladin, while it would be wonderful to see your belly huge and round with Galran brood, I have other plans for you.”
Lance didn’t like the sound of that, but he didn’t have time to dwell on it. Pleasure was starting to spike in between waves of pain, and it was becoming easier for Lotor to snap his hips forward without resistance. Lance moaned raggedly as Lotor began to fuck into him. “Such a good boy,” Lotor praised, leaning down to whisper into Lance’s ear, “taking me like this, and on your first time no less. You must be built for this.” Lance sobbed, shaking his head back and forth, but Lotor quickly stilled the blue paladin’s movements. Placing his clawed hand against the side of Lance’s face, he shoved his head into the pillow, grunting as his hips pistoned back and forth. “You can try to deny it all you want,” he growled, a cruel smile playing over his lips, “but I think I’ll enjoy using you for a bit longer.”
The tip of Lotor’s cock suddenly ghosted over Lance’s prostate, and his eyes shot open as a moan tore from his already raw throat. “N-no,” he gasped, as realization flashed behind Lotor’s eyes.
“There..?” the prince mused, slowly pulling his hips back before snapping them forward repeatedly, pressing once again against Lance’s vulnerable spot.
Cock twitching violently, white hot pleasure coursed throughout Lance’s body and his thrashing began anew, desperately trying to escape that feeling. He wouldn’t…no.. he couldn’t allow Lotor to make him cum. He was a paladin of Voltron, a defender of the universe, “f - ngh-a-AH!” his body shuddered violently and his back arched stretching his binds to their limit, as ribbons of cum shot out from his untouched member, splattering against his own chest.
Lotor chuckled once again, and began fucking Lance mercilessly through his orgasm, revelling at how each spasm had Lance clutching tightly around him. He quickly picked up the speed, feeling a familiar warmth and pressure building in the pit of his stomach. After a few more thrust, Lotor suddenly shuddered as well, releasing his load deep inside the blue paladin, pumping him full of cum.
Lance choked down a sob, shame washing over him. He had failed, he had allowed Lotor’s filthy cock to defile him and worse, he had cum without even being touched. I’m disgusting. Previous Ao3 Link
Chapter 2 The Prisoner Three days had passed since Lance had been unceremoniously dragged away from his first cell and relocated to a new one, and he was not enjoying the accommodations. This new room was much colder than the last, and his body suit definitely wasn’t a replacement for a nice, warm sweater. On top of that, his shackles had been attached to a small ring on the wall, about four feet off the ground and making it impossible for him to sit down comfortably. After three days of being strung up, his shoulders were feeling stiff and painful, and he had stopped struggling in order to free himself from unnecessary pain. That did not mean, however, that Lance was going to take this treatment on the chin. “RELEASE ME, YOU FUCKING LONG-HAIRED ASSWIPE! STOP IGNORING ME, I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME!” He roared at the closed door. Lance had been pretty sure he was about to experience some sort of heinous torture when he first arrived but so far, he had just been locked in the room, and the only time the doors had opened was when Zethrid or one of Lotor’s other general’s came in to feed him and give him water. He supposed he should be grateful that they were feeding him, but still, being ignored was not sitting well with him at all. Just when Lance had shouted himself hoarse and was about to give up, the doors suddenly slid open with a metallic hiss revealing Lotor, an amused grin spread over his face.
“My my, Blue, you are quite the noisy one aren’t you?”
Lance’s eyes narrowed and he curled his lips up in a disgusted sneer, “I didn’t want you to forget I was here! Release me at once or -” he suddenly faltered, or what? What the hell could he do while he was chained up like this? Lotor chuckled and seemed to guess what the blue paladin was thinking, “I am afraid I can’t do that, however - ” he broke off suddenly, his eyes seeming to almost shine in the dim light. Slowly, he approached Lance, looking down at his body with an almost hungry look in his eye. Reaching out, he slid his hand down Lance’s side, admiring how his suit accentuated his form, “If you really don’t want to be alone I suppose I could -” Lance didn’t let Lotor finish his sentence; he wasn’t oblivious, and the way that Lotor was looking at him made the hair on the back of his neck stand up. Without warning, he launched out as far as he could go, his head making contact with the prince’s with a sickening crunch. Lotor stumbled backwards, swearing angrily and clutching his head. Pulling his hand away, he saw blood and growled. “ZETHRID!” Lance glared at her as she tore into the room, blood trickling down his forehead; she surveyed the scene and approached Lotor, unable to hide the grin that was forming on her face.
“Release him,” Lotor ordered, wiping the blood from his forehead, eyes narrowed in anger.
“Yes, Sir,” she replied pulling the key from her hip and pushing it into the lock before standing back.
Lance fell onto the ground, shoulders burning as he suddenly held out his hands to land. This was his chance! Lance prepared himself to roll forward and tackle Lotor, but before he could even move, fingers gripped Lance’s hair and dragged him to his feet. Lotor’s fist connected hard with his stomach, winding him. “Try that again and I’ll make sure you won’t be able to walk ever again, understand?” Lotor growled, twisting Lance’s face to look him in the eye, which turned out to be a mistake as Lance suddenly spat into it. Lotor froze, anger bubbling in his gut, and he brought his hand up as if to slap him. Lance flinched away, bracing himself, but when the blow never landed, he looked up. Lotor let go of him and he tutted loudly, “Oh Blue,” he sighed, wiping his face, “you really are a glutton for punishment, aren’t you?” Before Lance could answer, Lotor turned to address his general. “Zethrid, take our guest to my chambers. It’s time he learned the true meaning of fear.”
——————- Chapter 1
Chapter one Captured
Lance awoke with a start, the first thing he noticed was the pain, he hurt everywhere. His body was littered with cuts and bruises and he could feel that the hair that was stuck to his head was matted with sticky dried blood. The blue paladin’s breath was coming out in short wheezy pants, and he realized the he probably had a broken rib.
He didn’t want to move but he knew he needed to get a look at his surroundings and figure out what had happened. He made a move as if to sit up, and panic rose inside him when he realized that his hands were shackled tightly behind him. Brain kicking into high alert, Lance curled his knees upward and lifted his upper body off the floor, ignoring the sudden spike of pain, looking frantically around him. What he saw made his heart sink.
He was in a cold, empty, metal room, lit dimly by purple lights, A low electrical hum filled the air and displayed on the wall was a familiar sharp, four pointed symbol. He all alone, chained helplessly on a galra ship, he had been captured.
——————-
Looking down at himself, Lance tried to piece together the events before his capture. They had gotten word from the Blade of Marmora that a distress signal had been sent from a ship somewhere in the Javeeno Star System. Knowing it was so close to where the Balmera and Shay were located, Hunk had immediately jumped at the chance, insisting they answer the call.
Shiro however, was much more skeptical, though he agreed, only on the condition that they all go as a team, a decision that turned out to be good one, as the signal had turned out to be a trap. Before they had even gotten close, they had been intercepted by Lotor and his fleet. The last thing he remembered was a frenzied battle, a sudden flash of pain, and then nothing.
He shook his aching head of the memory and glanced around, trying to think of a way to escape. He quickly noticed that his paladin armor, helmet and weapon had been confiscated and that he was wearing nothing but his skin tight body suit, a realization that made him feel uncomfortable and exposed. For comfort, his mind turned slowly to his team, he knew they would do everything in their power to find and rescue him, and that he would eventually be reunited with them, but with a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, he realized that for the time being, he was on his own.
Leaning his head against the cool metal wall to find some relief from his aching head, Lance couldn’t help but think, ‘Whats gonna happene to me?’ As if on cue, the metal door suddenly opened with a metallic hiss, revealing his captor. “Lotor!” Lance hissed out, fixing the young prince with an icy glare. “Ah,” the silver haired galaran replied, a malicious grin spread across his face, “I believe you meant to say, Prince Lotor.” Strolling into the room with an air of confidence, he approached the blue paladin, who shuffled backwards against the wall, growling angrily.
“Oh come now, is that any way for a Paladin of Voltron to act?” Lotor admonished, in an almost playful tone of voice.
“As if I need to be told off by some spoiled exiled Prince!” Lance spat back, lifting himself off the ground to stand up, straining to free his arms which were still shackled behind his back.
Though his face remained impassive, Lotor felt a spike of anger at the blue paladin’s words and he stared at Lance for a few seconds, before snapping his fingers and whipping his head around to look through the open door. One of his generals, Lance believed she was called Zethrid, entered the room and, after a quick and quiet exchange between the two, Zethrid strode forward and grabbed Lance by his hair, earning her a strangled yelp, and began to drag the blue paladin out of the room.
Lotor watched the exchange leaning against the wall, an unfathomable grin on his face. “Come Blue,” he chuckled, straightening up to follow them, “let us show you the VIP treatment,” and with those final words, he left the room, shutting the door behind him.

Gwaine talking to Merlin about why he should bring him on the quest to the Perilous Lands!
I just love the dynamic of all of the knights looking at Merlin and going "hell yeah, that's our little buddy! :) And if you hurt him we'll disembowel you! :)"
I've been seeing a lot of knight posts recently. pretty great
Hello everyone! I've got to say, I'm very pleased that this au won the latest poll! Gwaine's one of my favorite characters, but I don't give him enough love in my writing. So, I decided to really let his character shine in this au alongside some other characters who I feel like didn't get enough attention in the show. Enjoy! :D
Also, I saw that Merlin was trending again today, so I decided to jump in while that was happening lol! I love that this fandom will just wake up on a random day and decide to take over tumblr!
This au is set in the years between season 4 and season 5 (but Lancelot is still alive because I say so), and the story starts with Gwaine's getting a little worried about his friend. Merlin's getting more and more stressed as the weeks go by, and he doesn't smile very often anymore despite Gwaine's best efforts, which usually involve roping Merlin into whatever mischief he's stirred up recently for a little bit of fun.
Gwaine feels pretty guilty about Merlin's worsening mental state, because Gwaine is thriving for the first time in his life, finding a community and purpose among the knights of Camelot. And he owes it all, everything he now has, to Merlin, who is suffering under a burden that no one can seem to help him with.
So, Gwaine tries all that he can to cheer up his friend and pull him out of whatever terrible place his mind is stuck in, but no matter what Gwaine does, he can't seem to lighten Merlin's mood any. Sure, Merlin will plaster on a smile for Gwaine's sake and tell him that nothing's wrong, but Gwaine can see the dullness in Merlin's eyes, he saw it every time his saw his reflection for years before Merlin barreled into his life and showed him that there was more to life than taverns and wandering.
Before he knew it, a year had passed, and Gwaine hadn't made any progress in pulling Merlin out of his darkening mental state. Gwaine felt so frustrated and useless whenever he saw Merlin's smile the drop the second he thought that no one was watching. This was his chance to finally repay Merlin for turning his life around for the better, for giving him a home, a family, a purpose, but nothing he did was helping!
But Gwaine couldn't give up on helping Merlin. There must be a way to help him, to support him through whatever was burdening him, some way to bring that bright spark back to his eyes. Gwaine just had to find out how.
From the on, Gwaine kept an even closer eye on Merlin, determined to figure out what was weighing down his friend and how to ease his burdens. It was because Gwaine was watching Merlin so closely that he noticed them.
Gwaine will give them credit, whoever they were, they were good at stealth, far beyond anyone Gwaine had met before. The cloaked figure was almost always out of sight, right in the corners of his vision. At first, he thought that this nearly imperceivable figure was after him, but it didn't take him long to figure out that the mysterious figure was following Merlin.
As soon as Gwaine realized this, all of the alarm bells in his mind went off. Was this an assassin sent to kill Merlin? A spy trying to infiltrate Camelot? A bandit planning to abduct Merlin for ransom?
Or, Gwaine realized, this might be connected to Merlin's worsening moods. This mysterious figure was clearly well trained, but they had been following Merlin for over a week and still hadn't attacked, so they probably weren't an assassin or bandit. Was Merlin being threatened by this figure into doing their bidding?!
Finally, after tailing Merlin's stalker for weeks, Gwaine manages to get some answers after following Merlin on a late-night rendezvous outside of the castle. When Gwaine had spotted Merlin sneaking away under the cover of night, Gwaine of course had to follow him! Merlin could be in danger!
Gwaine followed Merlin as the other man made his way into the woods with a surprising amount of stealth. After a long hike through the woods, Merlin arrived at his destination, which, to Gwaine's shock, looked strikingly like a druid camp. There were painted tents, campfires, and even magical symbols carved into the tree, and all signs pointed to sorcerers living there.
Gwaine's anxiety skyrocketed at the sight. Why would Merlin risk coming to this secret druid camp, which Arthur definitely did not know about? Was Merlin being threatened and followed by sorcerers?!
Gwaine crept around the outskirts of the camp, sticking to the darkness. He saw Merlin approach a rather intimidating bald man, who, if the way the others in the camp made way for him as he walked, was the leader of this group of sorcerers.
Gwaine kept his hand firmly wrapped around the hilt of his sword, ready to draw it and run to the defense of his friend at a moment's notice. As he kept watching though, he strangely couldn't see any sign of a threat towards Merlin. While Gwaine couldn't hear much of their conversation, the intimidating leader guy acted almost friendly towards Merlin, and Merlin was relaxed, not showing any signs of fear at all.
As Merlin and his maybe-friend began making their way out of the camp, Gwaine could finally hear some of what they were saying.
"Thank you again, Alator. I'm not sure what I would've done without your help!"
"It is no burden to me or my men, I assure you. It is an honor to assist a man as great as you, Emrys. Morgana's forces are a threat to us all and an affront to all that is good in this world. We will fight at your side as always and ensure that Morgana's spies never infiltrate Camelot again."
Alright, there was... a lot for Gwaine to unpack there.
First of all, the scary bald man's name was apparently Alator, so that was good to know. He claimed to be allied with Merlin against Morgana, which gave Gwaine some relief.
However, as Gwaine's mind put the pieces together, he wanted to scream with frustration. Merlin was consorting with dangerous sorcerers behind Arthur's back in order to protect Camelot! It was a move so selfless yet foolish that only Merlin could pull it off.
Still, these sorcerers didn't seem hostile towards Merlin at all, so Gwaine could work with that. He just needed a little bit more information on them, some way to confirm that they really were on Merlin's side on not double crossing his friend.
So, Gwaine crept closer into the camp, trying to see what they were up to now that Merlin was gone. He didn't see anything incriminating just yet, but that didn't mean that they were free of any nefarious plans.
Gwaine inched closer and closer into the camp, his eyes trained on the men who were probably sorcerers going about their evening chores in the camp. Gwaine so focused on his targets, in fact, that he didn't register that there was someone behind him until he felt blow to the back of his head and fell unconscious.
As Gwaine woke up, his first thought was that the pounding in his head was just a hangover, which was not by any means an unusual occurrence for Gwaine. That idea was quickly disproven as, when Gwaine tried to raise his hands to his head to try and alleviate his massive headache, he realized that his hands were bound. Once again, this wasn't necessarily an unusual situation for Gwaine, but it did cause him to freeze up with alarm as he remembered where he was and what he was doing before everything went black.
When Gwaine was finally able to peel his eyes open, he was greeted with the sight of several angry-looking men, including their intimidating leader whom Merlin had spoken to. What was his name... ah yes, Alator!
Putting on his friendliest and most innocent smile, Gwaine immediately tried to talk his way out of the situation. It had worked for him in similar situations, so why not give it a shot?
"Well, hello there gentlemen! I was just here looking for my buddy Merlin, have you seen him? Lanky fellow, dark hair, always wearing a neckerchief? A great guy, really, you'd know if you had met him!"
Gwaine scrutinized each of his captors' reactions to Merlin's name. Maybe this way he could find out what their intentions with Merlin. However, all of their expressions remained stubbornly neutral, except for Alator, who simply blinked at the mention of Merlin.
After an awkwardly long silence, Gwaine again tried to get some sort of reaction out of these mysterious men.
"I could have sworn I saw him heading this way, and I got worried about him, ya know? What kind of friend would I be if I let him wander around the forest at night all by himself! He's the kindest person I know, but he can somehow find himself in trouble at any time."
Again, much to Gwaine's rising frustration, Alator simply blinked. After another awkward pause, Alator finally responded.
"You are a knight of Camelot, correct? And you hold Emrys is high regard?"
Gwaine frowned at the seemingly random questions, but he figured it couldn't hurt to keep the conversation rolling, especially if it can get him some answers. Admitting to being a knight of Camelot in front of a bunch of potentially dangerous sorcerer might not be the best move, but they were willingly working with King Arthur's personal manservant, so these guys must not have that much of an issue with Camelot, right?
"Why yes, I am a knight of Camelot! Sir Gwaine, at your service! Based on your question, I assume that Emrys is some nickname you have for Merlin?"
In response to his question, Alator merely gave a single, solemn nod. Man, this group really needed to work on their communication skills.
"In that case, I do hold Emrys in very high regard! In fact, I'd say he's the best person I've ever met!"
Finally, that comment got a reaction out of them! As soon as Gwaine told them about how much he values Merlin, the men in front of him started nodding and murmuring amongst themselves. Gwaine hoped that they were happy about having a common friend and not plotting ways to kill him.
After reaching some consensus, the men all turned towards Gwaine simultaneously, which sent a shiver down Gwaine's back. What were they planning?
Alator then waved his hand, and his eyes flashed gold, confirming Gwaine's suspicions that he was dealing with sorcerers. Gwaine flinched back and braced himself for whatever spell had just been sent his way...
Only to feel the chains binding him fall to the ground, leaving him free and unharmed. Gwaine glanced down to check that he was, in fact, still in one piece before staring at Alator in shock.
"I can sense the honesty in your heart as you speak Emrys's praises. Know that any friend of Emrys is a friend to us. We apologize for our previous behavior, as we did not know that you were also an ally of Emrys. Please, join us for a cup of tea so we can discuss this further."
Gwaine, reeling from his host's sudden change in attitude, let them maneuver him outside and give him a seat at their campfire, with Alator and his men sitting with him around the fire.
Gwaine looked around at his hosts, who sat silently around the fire, not even talking amongst themselves. The silence made Gwaine's nerves stand on end, so he decided to fill that silence himself. He might as well get to know his gracious hosts and fellow friends of Merlin, right?
"So, who are you guys? How did you meet Merlin? Hey, maybe we can compare stories of him! Let me tell you, I've got some crazy stories to share about adventures he's dragged me on!"
The men sitting around him shared a silent look at each other before Alator answered.
"We are the Catha, masters of combat and one of the last surviving sects of priests of the Old Religion. I am Alator, the leader of the Catha. I first met Emrys when I betrayed Morgana to follow a better, more peaceful path. Emrys showed us that Morgana's hatred lies opposed to the will of the gods, and we chose to place our loyalty in him instead. What stories do you have concerning Emrys?"
Gwaine nodded, feeling a strange sort of relatability to these intimidating magic-wielding warrior priests. They, like him, were on a path of meaningless destruction and found a better life by meeting Merlin.
"Ah, I can remember meeting Merlin like it was yesterday! There I was, drowning my sorrows in a tavern, when in walks a skinny looking guy and his pompous friend! They got into trouble pretty quickly, and I couldn't miss out on all that fun! I jumped into the tavern brawl to help them, but I got pretty banged up in the process. But, it turned out that it was my lucky day, because wouldn't you know it, I had accidentally saved the life of the prince of Camelot himself!
I didn't think much of prince Arthur at the time, but his manservant sure made a great impression! He brought me back to Camelot on his own horse, took me to the royal physician, gave up his own bed to me for the night so I could recover, and then covered for me after I got drunk off my ass in the tavern, again.
But then some jackasses posing as knights tried to hurt Merlin, and I stepped in to defend him and wound up getting banished by Uther, but then Arthur welcomed me back and even made me a knight when he became prince regent! And I've been lucky enough to have Merlin at my side ever since!"
Gwaine watched as many of the men's eyes widened at his story, unsure of what exactly they were so shocked by.
"You mean to say that you stood up to Uther Pendragon, the mad butcher king, for Emrys's sake? And came back to his side as soon as you could despite the threat of death hanging over your head?"
"Well, I did manage to see Merlin on one other occasion while I was banished, but he sought me out for that one. Apparently Arthur was having some trouble on his big quest to the Perilous Lands, so Merlin called me in as backup."
The Catha started whispering amongst themselves at that, with even Alator leaning forward in interest.
"Emrys specifically sought out your skills on such a monumental quest? You understand the significance of such an honor?"
Gwaine nodded, his expression shifting from a wistful one to a much more serious one.
"Of course I understand. Merlin's such an amazing person, and it shocks me every time that he thinks I'm someone worth relying on. Still, that only motivates me to not let him down. He saw something in me that no one else did, not even me, and he found a way to bring it to the surface. He changed my life, gave me a purpose, and I will never underestimate how much he's done for me."
This time, all of the Catha were nodding their heads in approval of Gwaine's appreciation for Merlin.
"You truly do see the significance of Emrys, Sir Gwaine. I can see your loyalty towards him clearly. For that, I would like to make you an offer.
Emrys's enemies are our enemies, and there are many of them. Morgana's forces grow stronger by the day, and we can only do so much with how few of us are left. Emrys himself faces many dangers, and we cannot always protect him as much as we'd like, seeing as how we cannot enter the city of Camelot. You, however, are at Emrys's side every day.
In working towards our shared goals, will you work alongside us to protect Emrys and keep Morgana's forces at bay? We can provide you with training that will put you far ahead of any of your peers and weapons that shall make you a formidable opponent to even the most powerful sorcerers. Will you accept our offer?"
"Ah, I see now. It was you lot who have been following Merlin around recently! Well, that certainly gives me quite a bit of relief, knowing that he isn't being followed around by someone who'd want to hurt him. I'd be happy to join in on your mission to protect Merlin!"
The Catha started murmuring approvingly amongst themselves at Gwaine's acceptance, until Alator spoke again.
"That is wonderful. It is an honor to be able to work alongside a warrior held in such high esteem by Emrys himself."
As Gwaine shook Alator's hand, accepting his offer, he got the feeling that this was the start of an amazing alliance.
And it sure was. Over the next months, Gwaine trained alongside the warrior priests whenever he could, becoming accustomed to their stoic natures and silent demeanors. They taught him fighting styles that he had never even heard of before and gave him information on people who were trying to hurt Merlin, allowing him to keep an eye on and eliminate threats to his friend before they had the chance to strike.
The Catha figured out pretty early on that Gwaine was rubbish at learning anything about magic itself, but when they placed enchanted weapons in his hands, he could wield them effortlessly and adapt his combat style to whatever the effects of the enchantment were. He even got a sword that could burst into flames!
As Gwaine's abilities to wield stronger enchanted weapons improved, the Catha started letting him fight the powerful sorcerers that Morgana sent into Camelot. Soon enough, he was equipped with indestructible armor armor that could repel spells and curses, weapons with some of the most formidable enchantments that the Catha could muster, and even a growing reputation throughout the land!
Luckily, the helmet that the Catha provided him with obscured his identity, so no reports of a rogue and enchantment-wielding Sir Gwaine made their way back to Arthur, as funny as that would be. Still, reports of the "indominable magic knight" that had defeated some of Morgana's most powerful sorcerers made their way across the land, even into Camelot's court. Some council members wished to capture the unknown knight and kill him before he became a threat, while others saw an opportunity to make a powerful ally against Morgana, and Arthur was constantly on the fence between those two arguments while Gwaine sat at the round table, quietly smug.
Meanwhile, Merlin, checking in with the Catha: What's this I hear about a warrior using powerful magic weapons to fight Morganas men?
Alator: Don't worry, Emrys. He's one of ours, fighting against Morgana in your name. He's one of your most devout followers in fact.
Merlin, not wanting to meet another Emrys fanboy who looks at him like he's a god: Uh, just tell him to keep up the good work and to let me know if he needs anything.
Soon after reports of the magic knight made their way to a very conflicted court of Camelot, Morgana sought out the magic knight, ready to either kill him for being such a nuisance or make an ally out of him. After all, surely a knight wielding such powerful magic would never be on the side of Camelot?
However, when Morgana managed to trap the magical knight and surround him with an army of a hundred sorcerers, the knight managed to defeat her and her entire army before escaping. He rained down fire and lightning upon them, the very elements fighting alongside him, as he cut down her army and left her defeated and humiliated.
Of course, reports of Morgana's defeat travelled to Camelot, where the court was even more incensed over the topic of the magical knight. He was capable of beating Morgana, surely he would be a great ally and could ensure Camelot's protection! But he was also now a magic-wielding threat even more powerful than Morgana! Sure he was now the foremost threat to Camelot!
In the end, Arthur and some of his most trusted knights decided to go on a quest to seek out this magical knight. Gwaine wasn't particularly worried, because how could they possibly find him if he was already travelling with them?
During the journey though, they receive word of a magical beast terrorizing nearby villages. The knights all try to fight the beast, but to little success, and it even managed to injure Merlin's leg before escaping!
Merlin's injury turned out to be not life-threatening, but he couldn't stand on his leg for very long. Unbeknownst to anyone else, Merlin entrusted Lancelot with slaying the beast after his injury, enchanting Lancelot's sword so that it could kill a creature of magic and his chainmail so that he wouldn't be hurt by its claws.
Gwaine, meanwhile, was furious with the creature and, that night, summoned his enchanted armor and weapons to go slay the beast and maybe give its head to Merlin as an apology for being unable to stop it from hurting him. Or maybe he would just treat Merlin to a night at the tavern when they got back.
So, Lancelot and Gwaine both tracked down the beast that knight. When they both arrived at the beast's lair with visibly enchanted weapons, they take each other by surprise. Lancelot is on guard, unsure if he wants to trust the now-infamous magic knight, but Gwaine just laughs and removes his helmet, and Lancelot is shocked.

Gwaine asks Lancelot where he got that enchanted sword, but Lancelot is tight-lipped about it, just saying he got it because he needed to protect Merlin. Gwaine chuckled and said that he understood.
After they finish slaying the beast together, Lancelot asks Gwaine if Merlin knows that he's the magic knight. Gwaine shrugs and says that he suspects that Merlin doesn't know, but wouldn't mind it if Merlin did know.
Lancelot, as soon as they get back to Camelot: So, did you know that Gwaine is actually the magic knight?
Merlin, spitting out his tea and having flashbacks to his conversation with Alator: HE'S WHAT NOW?!
Things get cleared up between Lancelot, Merlin, and Gwaine pretty quickly from there. Gwaine takes the magic reveal very well, excited at the prospect of going on magical adventures with Merlin and glad that his friend can actually defend himself, because he's rubbish with any type of weapon.
From there though, a sort of friendly competition sprung up between Gwaine and Lancelot, as both of them consider themself to be Merlin's best friend. Soon enough, there's two magical knights running around foiling Morgana's plans, and Arthur's ready to tear his hair out over it.
From there, more knights figure out about Merlin's magic and, if they're accepting of it, they also train with the Catha and receive enchanted weapons. It almost becomes its own secret society within the knights, all united with the sole purpose of protecting Merlin. They eventually have Elyan, Percival, and number one Emrys fanboy Mordred join their ranks.
Arthur eventually finds out approximately where the magical knights are hidden (their meeting spot when they need to meet outside of Camelot), and he sends Leon in disguise to infiltrate them, not knowing that they are knights from Camelot. Being the knights of the round table, they of course recognize Leon immediately and give him the full story, and Leon joins them and just tells Arthur that he "couldn't find the magical knights."
Gwaine laughs his ass off at every round table meeting where Arthur becomes more and more frustrated at not being able to catch the magical knights, and out of the corner of his eye, he can see Merlin having a good laugh over it too.
And I'll cut it off there for now! I had lots of fun writing this, I feel like I should write about Gwaine more often!
Let me know if you would like me to write a continuation for this au!

Hello everyone! With me focusing on the "Archeologist Merlin" fic on ao3, it's been a while since I posted an au idea! It's good to be back!
Since an au featuring Lancelot won the last poll, here's my Lancelot au that I tried to make somewhat lighthearted, but it ended up being angsty instead. I hope you enjoy this au idea! :D
PS: For optimal reading conditions, go listen to Hozier's song "Like Real People Do", and then come back here. Trust me, it'll be worth it.
This au takes place in the middle of season 4, picking up right after the episode "Servant of Two Masters", which means that "Lancelot du Lac" hasn't happened yet. At that point, Lancelot had died by sacrificing himself to the veil, and everyone believes that he will stay dead. However, while Merlin was in Morgana's hut to kill the fomorroh that she had stuck in his neck, a book on Morgana's shelf caught his eye. He could feel the power oozing from the book, which was drenched in dark magic. Merlin, knowing that Morgana would absolutely be up to no good with such a powerful book dripping with dark magic, steals the book from her hut before killing the fomorroh. To Merlin, taking the book means that Morgana has one less weapon to attack Camelot with, and he would take any advantage that he could get against Morgana.
Merlin was so focused on killing the fomorroh and getting the dark book away from Morgana that he didn't even see the title of the book that he had stolen until he was back in his room in Camelot. As he prepared to hide the dark book underneath a floorboard in his room, he took a peek at the title of the book for the first time: The Arcane Secrets of Necromancy and Thralls.
Yikes. No wonder the book was dripping with dark magic, if that's what it was about. As Merlin hastily dropped the book down on his bed to free up his hands to pry up the floorboard, he noticed that the book had fallen open to a marked page. Merlin sucked in a breath as he recognized Morgana's handwriting on the page, making notes on one particular spell. As much as he wanted nothing to do with such dark magics, Merlin couldn't pass up the opportunity to learn more about Morgana's plans. He could finally be one step ahead of her!
Merlin hesitantly picked up the book and started reading from the marked page. The page itself detailed the ways a powerful sorcerer could raise a dead soul without having access to the deceased person's body and bend that soul to their will. A violent shiver went down Merlin's spine as he read more. These spells and rituals were horrible and cruel, and it seemed like Morgana had every intention of utilizing them against her enemies. Merlin didn't even want to imagine what awful things Morgana wanted to do with these spells, who she wanted to raise from the dead and torture forevermore.
As Merlin turned the page though, he saw something that immediately drew his attention: a ritual that claimed that it could bring someone back to life with their soul intact and not in any pain. Merlin was frozen as soon as he saw it, staring numbly at the page. Could it even be possible? The ritual claimed that, with an animal sacrifice and enough power on the sorcerer's part, the Old Religion's laws would accept the resurrection of the subject without any human's life being taken in return.
The festering pain in his chest, which had been present since Lancelot's death at the hands of the veil and his heart had felt like it had been torn from his body, throbbed once more. Could he... could he actually do it? Could he truly bring Lancelot back as himself, have his dearest friend, his pillar of support, by his side once more?
As soon as that idea had slithered into his head, Merlin's mind refused to let go of it. It followed him everywhere over the following days, never once leaving him alone, until one day he found himself gathering the ingredients for the ritual.
He had to do it. He owed it to Lancelot, who had sacrificed himself not for Arthur, but for him. If there was even the slightest chance of truly bringing Lancelot back, he had to take that risk.
The ritual itself was complicated, but not impossible, certainly not for Emrys. He had to draw a summoning circle on the forest floor under a lightless new moon, place some of Lancelot's belongings in the circle, of which he chose Lancelot's journals and his prized dagger, and then kill the rabbit he had brought as the sacrifice, collect its lifeblood in a blessed chalice, and finally enchant the blood itself and spill it over Lancelot's belongings in the circle.
Merlin could feel the power of the ritual buzzing around the forest as he performed it, but it didn't frighten him, because he could feel it working. As soon as he poured the rabbit's enchanted blood over the journal and dagger, the circle around him started glowing with a harsh light, urging Merlin on. After the chalice was emptied of blood, Merlin started chanting the final spells of the ritual: one to summon Lancelot's intact and healed body, another to draw Lancelot's soul out of Avalon, and a final spell to merge his body and soul, which would leave Lancelot wholly alive and himself again.
Merlin's heart leapt up to his throat as the first spell succeeded, revealing Lancelot's body, still clad in the same cape and armor that he had worn when he walked into the veil. The mere sight of his friend had Merlin faltering, but he needed to continue through the whole ritual. The second spell summoned a glowing blue mist, which sparkled in the light of the circle and hovered over Lancelot's prone form. Merlin felt strangely comforted at the sight of the mist, and he realized with a gasp that the mist itself must be Lancelot's soul, awaiting his return to his body.
At last, all of the pieces were in place, and Merlin performed the final spell: rebinding Lancelot's soul into his body. The spell itself required an immense amount of power, but Merlin could both feel and see that it was working! Lancelot's soul was slowly disappearing into his body. He was almost there!
With the last incantation, Merlin staggered backwards, feeling thoroughly drained from performing such powerful magic. However, his exhaustion melted away into excitement as Lancelot opened his eyes and sat up, looking around.
"Lancelot! You're back!"
Merlin launched himself forwards towards his friend, his joy almost overwhelming. He crashed into Lancelot's side and wrapped him in the tightest hug he could manage.
"What were you thinking, going into the veil?! I thought you'd be gone forever! But enough of that, we need to get you back to Camelot!"
Merlin urged his friend, who still looked rather dazed and disoriented, up to his feet. Lancelot's confusion was petty understandable, Merlin could only imagine how confusing it must have been to suddenly return to the living!
"Lancelot, how are you feeling? You aren't hurt, are you?"
Merlin waited with baited breath as Lancelot opened and closed his mouth a few times, as if trying to get used to having a mouth again. Finally, after several agonizing minutes of silence, Lancelot spoke, his voice rough.
"Mer... Merlin. My... my..."
"Your what, Lancelot? What do you need? Whatever it is, I'm sure that I could get it for you!"
Merlin smiled encouragingly at Lancelot, still helping him stay upright. He waited patiently for Lancelot to find whatever words he was looking for.
"My... my lord. I am at your command."
Merlin's heart dropped to his stomach as Lancelot dropped to his knees, kneeling before Merlin just as he did when he pledged his fealty as a knight to Arthur.
"Lancelot, what are you doing? Get up!"
Lancelot, with a sickening level of obedience, immediately rose to his feet, awaiting further commands. Merlin reeled backwards, away from Lancelot, and doubled over, feeling nauseous. What had he done?
Why had this happened?! He knew that the ritual had worked, he could feel it when Lancelot's soul reentered his body, so how was Lancelot devoid of his own will? What had gone wrong?!
As Merlin spent several minutes bowled over, trying to keep himself from hurling up his dinner all over the ground, a wolf howled in the distance, shocking Merlin back into reality. He took a deep breath and glanced back over to where Lancelot was still standing, wearing a terrifyingly blank expression.
He would fix this. He had to. But right now, they needed to get to safety before they could come up with any plan going forward. Swallowing thickly, Merlin called out to Lancelot.
"Come on, we need to get back to Camelot. Gaius might be able to help us fix whatever's gone wrong with the ritual."
Lancelot nodded without hesitation, and they both set back on the trail towards Camelot. It was slightly harder for Merlin to sneak into the castle with another person with him, but he was able to make it work. Eventually, they made it to Gaius's chambers, who jolted awake at the sound of his door slamming open.
Gaius's annoyance at his rude awakening was terrifying enough for Merlin, but it was completely overshadowed at his fury towards Merlin for performing a necromancy ritual.
"How could you be so stupid?! Of course a ritual from that tome would bring him back as your thrall! Even if he's fully healed and has his soul and all of his memories, he's now bound by your will! Any subject of necromancy sees the magic user who raised them from the dead as their god, regardless of the spell or ritual used!"
A fresh wave of dread and guilt threatened to drown Merlin.
"So, there's no way fully bring him back? No matter what I try, he'll never come back as himself again?"
Gaius slowly shook his head, breaking Merlin's last shards of fragile hope.
Lancelot, on his end, was initially very, very confused. One moment he was floating through an endless darkness, and the next he was laying on the ground in the middle of a glowing circle in the forest.
He looked around, and there he was. Merlin, standing at the edge of the circle. Lancelot smiled, glad beyond words to see his friend again, to know that his sacrifice wasn't in vain
Still, there was some odd, foreign feeling bubbling up inside of him at the sight of Merlin. But he didn't have long to ponder those feelings before Merlin was suddenly wrapping his arms around him, hugging him tightly.
It wasn't until Merlin had helped him to his unsteady feet that the foreign feeling pushed to the surface, taking control of his limbs. The thing taking over was him, but it wasn't him, but it felt like the most natural thing in the world to both him and whatever was controlling him to fall to his knees and pledge his fealty to Merlin, as if there was ever a doubt where his devotion lay.
The trip back to Camelot was a blur to Lancelot, feeling like he was both in control of himself and under the control of something else, but he didn't fight against it. No, whatever was now inhabiting his body alongside him seemed to be working with him, not against him.
Despite Merlin's panic and the unknown entity that was now in his mind, Lancelot thoroughly enjoyed the walk back to Camelot. He never thought that he'd enjoy the simply pleasures that came with having a corporeal body again, so he enjoyed everything from feeling the dirt under his boots to the wind on his face.
When they reached Gaius's chamber though, and he revealed the true consequences of Merlin's efforts to bring him back from the dead. Panic, horror, and betrayal washed over Lancelot in a split second, but those feelings dissipated as soon they appeared.
While Lancelot could chalk up his immediate forgiveness towards Merlin as the work of the foreign entity that now resided within his body, Lancelot knew deep down, in a place in his heart where the entity couldn't touch, that his feelings of forgiveness and acceptance towards Merlin was his and his alone.
Because the truth was that, even before Lancelot stepped into the veil, there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for Merlin.
And this post is getting too long, so I'll cut it off there! From here, the au focuses on people's reactions to Lancelot's return and Merlin's tremendous amounts of guilt for what he's done to Lancelot. Lancelot has some days where he's pretty much his old self again, and other days where he's deeper under the thrall's control.
Because everyone can see the very disturbing sight of Lancelot under the power of the thrall, everyone in the castle (except for Merlin and Gaius) believes that Lancelot was resurrected by an evil sorcerer and enchanted by him to try to destroy Camelot, but they also believe that he's valiantly beating back the sorcerer's enchantment with the power of sheer willpower and friendship and is slowly getting better.
It breaks everyone's heart to see Lancelot's will robbed of him, but it hits especially hard for Gwen, Arthur, and the knights to see the strongest, most noble man they know have to fight every single day for his own free will. Merlin, meanwhile, vows never to give Lancelot any orders, as he will not stoop so low as to bend his dearest friend to his will, but even despite not explicitly giving Lancelot orders, the thrall still sometimes takes over his friend and seeks him out. The only order he ever gives the thrall is to just do whatever Lancelot wants to do, but even that sometimes doesn't work and the thrall just stands there, looking at him blankly.
Well, that's enough angst for today! Let me know if you'd like to see a continuation of this au! Until next time!
And as always, thank you for reading through my ramblings! :D
While I'm finishing up my archeologist Merlin fic, I'm debating which au to post next and want your input! Au's featuring Lancelot and Gwen got the least votes last time, so I figured that I'd give them another shot here!
All of these au's will probably be posted eventually, but this will just help me decide what to write and post first. I'm excited to see what you'll choose!
Happy voting! :D
Hello everyone! After seeing the overwhelming support for my last au idea, where Merlin is reincarnated and is captured by a maybe-undead Arthur while exploring the ruins of Camelot, I've decided that I'll do a continuation of that prompt and (hopefully) have it posted tonight!
I've still got another au idea that I want to post after this continuation, but I'm conflicted as to which idea to post after that (since I have about 15 half-finished prompts sitting in my drafts).
So, I figured that I should let you guys vote on it! I'll probably post all of them eventually, but this will help me determine which ones I should post first!
I'm keeping them vague as to not spoil anything, but I think all of them are pretty good au ideas! I'm looking forward to seeing what you all choose!
What if Lancelot became a dragon?🐲for... reasons (based loosely around the dragon hunter lancelot look from dash!)
le fantôme du roi Ban quand Lancelot arrive: you’re never gonna believe what i just saw the other night. RIGHT in front of my salad
In La Tavola Ritonda, the Orkneys' loyalties are a bit different: all of them except for Mordred are in on trying to reveal the affair, with Gawain as the leader. They prepare an ambush, which Lancelot escapes after killing Agravaine, Gaheris, and eight unnamed knights.
As would be expected, Gawain furiously tries to avenge his brothers—though it isn't quite the same, since he already had a vendetta against Lancelot and might have duelled him anyway.
Regardless, Gareth, presumably still alive but now unimportant to the narrative, is never heard from again.
In a way, Lancelot saved Gareth (and Gaheris) in killing them, bc we will never know if they would've taken Mordred's side. And I think a lot of people in and out of the narrative would like to assume Gareth wouldn't but we don't know and I genuinely believe it could've gone either way. AND in overshadowing their protest in his own actions, Lancelot obscures a key piece of evidence that Gareth and Gaheris might have gone against Arthur.
As much as I love these boys, the most "important*" thing they do is to die, and become martyrs for Gawain's vengeance against Lancelot. And like many martyrs what they actual thought, believed, or would have done stops mattering when the bodies hit the floor....
*or well, memorable. Most impactful on the main through line, and most incorporated across texts and retellings
“The music of the sword of the High-king of the World”. I love that phrase. Given that this is TSotCED, it could be poetic imagery or an actual, magical singing sword, but either way, I think it’s beautiful, and so is Lancelot recognizing Bhalbhuaidh by the sound of a weapon which Arthur lent him for his quest. Here, Galahad/Bhalbhuaidh, who might actually be intended to be Gawain, is not said to be Lancelot’s son and was fostered by Arthur (who is the High-king of the World, not only Britain or Logres). That Arthur raised him and gave him the sword, that Arthur sent Lancelot to lead the search party for his ward, and that Lancelot was immediately able to recognize him by the sound alone says a lot about how close to Arthur both of them are and how they slot into the court in general. You get so much from that one phrase.
The bit at the end about the Knight of the Lantern being able to fly like a bird is only a plus.
Griflet also gets a flower crown, but his is ambiguous.
happy lancelot and his crown of roses day to all who celebrate :)
Dindrane: claimed I could remember my unborn sibling from Heaven, then gave a description of said sibling which turned out to be accurate
Taliesin: went outside during a lightning storm and tried to fly away by using a Mary Poppins umbrella to catch the wind while making dramatic poetic declarations (I got about two feet in the air)
Sebile: tried to practice necromancy to talk to a dead Monarch butterfly
.
This isn’t something I did, but an evangelical organization once showed up at my family’s house to see whether one of us was the Messiah, and that seems pretty Galahad-esque.
Arthur: created clubs for the sole purpose of making myself in charge of them
Guinevere: played barbies, but the plot of the game was that they were fighting in world war iii
Lancelot: pretended to be an exterminator by spraying actual hornets with a hose, and somehow not getting stung, against all odds
Gawain: held stair-jumping competitions, and regularly jumped down around 10 stairs at a time
Merlin: designated a particular tree branch for reading and refused to let anyone climb this branch
Gaheris: held ‘screaming contests’ in my backyard to which invited my friends (this is exactly what it sounds like and it was banned by my mother immediately)
Dinadan: eaten spaghetti while riding a bike
Galahad: made a graveyard for bugs
Morgana: recruited a friend’s little brother to spy on said friend because she wasn’t talking to me
Mordred: accidentally made a gallon of poison
