wait— i resisted the instinct and i get it. jean trying over and over again to save kevin and failing each time but unable to stop himself because what else would he do? he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he stopped trying. maybe it’ll be different this time. maybe he will finally outsmart it.

especially if this was the first and last time kevin told jean he loved him, knowing that it was reciprocal would make jean try even harder even though he knows it’s pointless
