This could have been so perfectš„² Does anyone know what happened to the OP or if they have another account where I can find them?
So I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. However whilst reading the series, one thing struck me above everything else - the way Hogwarts and the greater Wizarding World is seemingly set up just doesnāt make logical sense! Only one teacher per subject? With JKR telling us that there are approximately 1000 students at Hogwarts at any given time? 493 knuts per galleon? No Wizarding primary schools or higher education? So, me being the autistic Ravenclaw that I am, this took away from my enjoyment of the series. I needed it to make mathematical sense!
So I fixed it.
I have spend two years on and off coming up with a detailed overview of the school, from the number of total students and the male/female ratio, the number of students in every house, in every year, and how many could reasonably fit in one class at a time. Then I started on my class timetables. I had to appropriately plan every studentās schedule to make sure that no one had any overlapping classes, this ended up meaning manually writing down which subjects every student took and then sorting them alphabetically into classes based on the fact that I didnāt want more than 30 kids per class.
That still wasnāt enough though. I then had to figure out how we would get 1000 kids to school safely and efficiently, how we would sort them without making the entire school sit there for 3+ hours, how many professors would have to live at the school in order to provide adequate supervision for 1000 kids, a comprehensive list of school rules, an actual system of how many house points one would gain/loseā¦ā¦ I really dug myself into a hole and I couldnāt stop. In fact Iām still not done and I still canāt stop. There are SO many holes in this world.
Beyond this I have a whole alternate timeline that this whole thing is based on. Long story short, in my headcanon, the war āofficiallyā began with The Battle of the Department of Mysteries (which I have modernised to take place in June 2018) and ended in January 2020 with The Battle of Hogwarts, and then all students were required to repeat whatever year they were in during the war, because holy shit, the fact that they didnāt make any of them repeat a year after that mess is ridiculous. Iām surprised any of them even passed DADA with Umbridge!! Or that anyone accomplished anything the year Voldemort was literally in control of the school. Now I realise that modernising this story is probably an unpopular take - however I must stress how much Iām mainly doing this for myself so I can live out my Harry Potter fantasies in a relatable way lol. Feel free to ignore the modern times and just take my numbers to the original 90ās timeline if youād rather do that than put yourself into the story like I do.
Also let it be known that I am in my 20ās and a mother of two⦠but my therapist knows about this and says itās a HEALTY COPING MECHANISMā¦. soooooooo, guess Iām gonna just keep writing out this timeline and imaging what life would be like if I was 16 again woo! Anyway⦠Harryās year would have to repeat Sixth Year. And believe me when I say the level of intricate detail in my alternate timeline is just wild. If you think Iām crazy for doing just this āLogical Hogwartsā thingā¦.. you donāt even want to see my alternate timeline. Itās wild. Iām way too invested in this. Iāve written over 30k words so far and Iām not stopping.
Also in my headcanon Hogwarts, everyone I like just lives because Iām doing this to escape my depression not to become even more depressed thank you very much! Snape, Lupin and Sirius Black all live and are put in a position where they have to run the DADA department together because, um, IMAGINE THE HILARITY!? Them hating each other, then eventually having to figure out how to work together? Reluctant forgiveness turned sincere apologies turned genuine friendship?? Also Remus and Sirius are so gay and Harry lives with them. Tonks has a different husband, they still both die and Teddy still exists. Harry is still Teddyās godfather because of the genuine friendship he formed with Tonks. Dumbledore still dies. Originally he wasnāt going to but he just has to, I realised the story doesnāt work if he lives.
So, here we are. The second wave of Logical Hogwarts, re-vamped, rewritten in some parts, lots more added on! Two years and one more kid later! Feel free to take this for personal use or fanfiction or whatever, tag me or message me if you do I want to see your class timetable! Or if you want me to make you a class timetable Iāll do it!
(Disclaimer; I still look after my kids I promise. I just donāt sleep which is how I have time for this ;))
Iāve tried to make this as easy to read and navigate as I possibly can, so Iāve created a seperate page for every different aspect of this world. I didnāt like the look of the master post and scrolling for so long was overwhelming. So, here it goesā¦
Hogwarts student body (the numbers)
Hogwarts student body (the names) Hogwarts dormitories
Hogwarts prefects and head boy & girl Hogwarts staff & faculty Hogwarts School Rules (this was THE MOST fun to write) The Hogwarts Express (but it makes sense now)
The Sorting Ceremony (but it doesnāt suck now)
whats your opinion on percy weasley? i'd love to see him get fleshed out more in your rewrite!
You know, originally, I didnāt care much for him. But the other day someone asked for my opinions on the Weasleys (check it out here), and a discussion on Percy surged from there.
Now, I think that because Percy was a kid born when things were most intense in the war, thereās got to be a lot of repressed trauma. Like, Molly and Arthur already had Bill and Charlie, so thatās three kids they needed to protect from everything. Three kids who didnāt understand what was happening and why Mom and Dad are always so paranoid and stressed and exhausted. I talk about some of this here.
I think Molly taught her kids to be quiet at all times, especially when hiding, and to be obedient because otherwise bad things can happen. And I think Percy was the most obedient and quiet of the three, and he was often praised for it. But then, when the war ended, he got stuck in the war mindset.
While the world was slowly moving on and mending itself, Percy continued being the perfectly quiet and obedient child who followed the rules down to a T. His older brothers didnāt have time to dwell on the past, they were too busy helping Molly around the house, and the younger ones never had to experience what they did, not really, anyway.
So he gets made fun of when he fusses over the rules, or when he brags about his accomplishments (which I think he does because now heās not being praised as much as he used to, and is now desperately competing with his siblings for that kind of attention), or when he says that he wants to work in the Ministry.
SO, I think Iām going to have Percy have that big fight with his parents, but I want to also find a way to make them understand that he wasnāt entirely wrongāhis execution couldāve been betterābut he was also hurting and he was very determined. He wanted to do good, he believed in the Ministry, whom he watched clean the streets after the war.
I think thatās it for now, any more ideas are welcomed :)
EDIT: I also want Percy to end up with Oliver Wood because Iāve been shipping them for so long and theyād just be an awesome couple. PERCIVER FOR LIFE!!
Introduction.
Hello, my name is Rio. I go by they/them, and am pan. Iām deaf, have been my entire life.
I write purely for fun, and I hope that one day I can share some of my original works. For now, though, Iāll be focusing on several projects Iāve been working on for some time within the Harry Potter universe.
NOTE: I do not, in any way, support JKRoach. I am a part of the fandom, anything that TERF says has no importance in my blog. Fuck her.
Harry Potter Rewrite.
I decided to rewrite the entire Harry Potter series. Iāll be fixing plot holes, diversifying, and overall bettering the story as I see fit.
I would love and appreciate it if you guys could help me out! Have any specific headcanon for any character? Let me know! Have ideas for an Era? Comment, Ask, or PM me!
I want to hear about any and all suggestions you may have.
NOTE #1: I used to identify as Anti-Snape, but I no longer do. I decided to interact with some Snape stans with an open mind when I made the choice of humanizing Snape. Now, Iām very neutral about young Snape, however, I wonāt defend him as an adult. Hope thatās understandable. If youāve got any headcanons on Snape as a young boy/teenager, feel free to send them over.
NOTE #2: Due to my personal headcanon that the Potters are Indian, I will be referring to Harry as Hari (I can elaborate on this, if youād like).
Social Media.
Iāll be posting the rewrite (and maybe some other works) on Ao3 and Wattpad. You can subscribe and follow in the meantime.
You can follow my progress with the rewrite on my Twitter. I will be interacting with everyone there, and will be holding votes on different matters every Friday (ish).

Thank you SO much! This helped me a lot, Iāll be sure to read the fanfics you recommended during the weekend.
Also, if anyone else has an idea please let me know regardless of what you think of Snape. I will do my best to be as neutral to him as possible while considering the suggestion. As I mentioned in the ask, I donāt want to represent him as wholly bad.
Hello! Iām rewriting the HP series, starting from the Maraudersā Era.
Iām an Anti-Snape, but I donāt want to portray him as wholly bad like most people who think like me tend to do. I want to have reasons for Lily to stick with him and defend him for so many years other than him just being her childhood best friend or something. Really, Iām asking for some headcanons? Little moments that Snape and Lily treasure? Little quirks that Snape might have (he likes spicy food, loves bugs, literally anything) to help me humanize him more? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(To everyone who messages me or replies: if youāre respectful of my views on Snape, Iāll be sure to be respectful of yours!)
Thank you! @ottogatto suggested I come here for help, so I decided to give it a try.
Hello! First of all - best of luck! Rewriting the series from a specific era involves a lot of love and labour. ā¤ļøš» Secondly, I appreciate you reaching out to humanise Snape a bit :) It's usually my pet peeves in Marauder fanfics that you really can't see what Lily was holding onto while her friend is being radicalised. There is something complex and dsyfunctional here and it says a lot about both of them. The fact that you want to put effort into characterising him instead of making him one note vessel to be bashed is commendable ā¤ļø
Anyway - things I see Snape and Lily do that lends some complexity to the friendship:
1. Snape is the one who told Lily she is a witch and is the one giving her the background of wizarding world (Azkaban conversation, wondering how Dumbledore sent the letter to Petunia etc etc).
Lily, when we first see her, has fairly good amount of control over her magic and is also a bit reckless with it (jumping off swings to float in air). I can see both her and Snape experiment with magic a bit. They are also both very good at Potions - so I can imagine child Snape and Lily practising a lot of wandless magic together and also have Potions bonding time as they grow older.
A fic that does this wonderfully and I recommend with my whole heart is Check the Spindle by @copper-dust
Here is an exchange from the fic that captures how I see the dynamic between 9 year old Lily and Snape, and why I see teenage Lily having difficulty letting go of him:
'Being in a place isnāt playing,ā Lily laughed. āPlaying is playing. You have to pretend to be something and that everything is something else, like you could be the conductor, even, and pretend the trains are still running.ā
Severus bit his lip. āI donāt normally...do pretend things.ā
āWell, thatās silly.ā
āItās not silly!ā His voice sharpened like a pencil tapered to a point. āBeing silly is like⦠doing things that arenāt real. I can do real magic, so I donāt have to play pretend.ā
āWell, so can I!ā Lily was offended by the implication that her special gifts were in any way less real than his. āI make stuff move all the time without touching it. Just because I do make-believe doesnāt mean I canāt doā¦ā She lowered her voice, though there was no one around the deserted field. āMagic.ā
āI didnāt say you couldnāt...couldnāt do magic. I know you can. I was the one who told you!ā
She followed him out into the wheaty grass, away from the rails. He had turned away from her to face the gingerbread-coloured bricks of the distant foundry. āWhy donāt you want to play anything?!ā insisted Lily, to his back. āI thought you wanted to be friends!ā
āBecause I donāt know how, alright?
2. I usually take the cue from Harry's relationship with the Half Blood Prince textbook as a mirror for Lily's own friendship with Snape. When Harry is shocked by Sectumsempra ("he felt like a beloved pet had gone savage"), I see a more intense version of this playing out between them. Harry thinks of the Prince as a "clever boy who had helped him" - and I definitely see Snape's cleverness as part of the draw for Lily.
The volatility and ambiguity of her friendship with Snape and when she loses him to his bigotry and radicalisation, in my head, plays a part of why she is drawn to James, who is so vocally militant about his progressive politics. She feels safe with James - James won't hurt her by something that is a part of her identity, in her head. There is a wound in Lily - with regard to both Snape and Petunia.
(I also recommend work by acciosalmon - she captures the bittersweetness of the friendship without toning down any flaws. And although Snape only appears in a cameo, I thought @izzythehutt also captured the dynamic well in her Sirius-centric AU)
I also talk about a more flawed Lily here
3. Snape loves his mother, but hates his father. He identifies as half a "Prince" - his mother's maiden name. We also see him wearing her clothes - I read this as a defiance against his abusive father (and also the Snapes are dirt poor, so if Snape wants a hand me down, he will only take his mother's). I go back and forth on whether he takes Lily home at any point - but I personally see him as too ashamed of his home, compared to a more well off Lily. I do see Lily pushing a bit to understand her angry, sullen friend more. I talk about breakdown of their friendship here
4. I can see him hoard rare Potion ingredients and be super enthusiastic about Lucius Malfoy's dark objects collection in his manor. (he will think Lucius taste in peacocks is garish and kinda funny - which I think he will unthinkingly bitch about to Lily, and Lily won't like the implications of him hanging out with Malfoy). She may share his enthusiasm for rare Potion ingredients too. And yes, I think he will love bugs too. (btw, the Malfoys genuinely regard Snape as their friend and Snape reacts unconsciously when Harry names Lucius as a Death Eater, Narcissa knows where he lives and asks him to save her son's life - there is a relationship there, even though Snape is technically betraying their ideology by being in the Order)
5. He smokes ( he is self destructive, and doesn't take care of himself, so his habits are combination of depressive neglect and outright destruction). He enjoys reading - especially rare academic journals. If he wasn't radicalised and went down the path he did, I can see him turning into a reclusive researcher as an adult. So I tend to give him reclusive researcher interests. Snape hyper-identifies with magic and is very interested in expansion of his understanding and knowledge of it. I talk about Snape's draw towards powerful men with regard to his attachment trauma here
Also recommend The Atoners by @copper-dust for difficult teenage Snape interactions, but still in keeping with his humanity and guilt.
6. He is very, very aware of his social standing and class! @floreatcastellumposts captures this in a wonderful paragraph in her fic Phyrric:
Sheād let Potter call the baby Harry, heād heard, and he was sure, somehow, that it was Potter that had come up with the name. It felt like a Potter name - on the surface common and friendly and non-threatening, but when you stopped and thought about it, it was usually still just posh boys that were called things like James and Harry and Thomas and William and John and Richard and David and Edward. Kingly sort of names, princely - royal. Just as pretentious as Latin, but with the added sanctimony of an attempt at approachability or equality.
Also the quote that best sums him up is "a child weaned on poison considers harm comfort"
Feel free to chat with me in case you have any more questions. And good luck once again! ā¤ļø
You know, what you said made me think of a lot of devastating stuff.
Just imagine baby Percy wanting to play but his parents are overwhelmed with the war and reject him every time.
In a war, Iām pretty sure that thereās going to be a lot of scary moments: nearby fights, the distant sounds of people screaming, Molly hysterically counting her children before hiding together in a bathroom while Arthur makes sure the DEs are not near.
Percy was quiet because thatās how Molly and Arthur told him to be because of the war. He was the best at being quiet and perfectly obedient, he was always praised for it.
The war ends when heās five years old and he has to witness his mother breaking down and every now and then because the memories are still haunting her. Heās helpless and anxious because he doesnāt know how to comfort her, this doesnāt seem the type of situation where a bandaid and a kiss would make it better.
Percy never forgot. While Bill and Charlie were thrusted into the substitute parents role, therefore too busy to dwell on the past, Percy was stuck. He watched the world move on without him.
He was no longer needed to be quiet. He no longer needed to be completely obedient. He no longer needed to be strong. But Percy doesnāt know how to not do that.
Now heās strange.
Percy, the boy who doesnāt come out and play with his brothers.
Percy, the boy who yells at his brothers when they become too noisy for him to read.
Percy, who always tells on his siblings when doing something wrong.
Percy, who decided to work for the Ministry from a young age because he always saw them on the streets trying to clean the aftermath of the war.
Percy Weasley, yāall.
I think Percy was a quite child - I love the older two, but I don't connect with their stories as much - because of the war. And nobody minded. Being quiet meant he could hide, being quiet meant he wasn't a liability. But then the war ended, and people saw him as weird.
Honestly, I agree. Being quiet isnāt a flaw or a liability. However, from what I understand, Percy was already thought of as weird since way before the war. Thereās a lot of moments in the books where people mock him (mostly the twins). I think it wasnāt until after the war that people started trying to understand him.
Wait, if you're still taking suggestions, can you do a Slytherin-Gryffindor friendship? It doesn't have to be Draco because it'll take a lot of rewiring to make that work, but maybe someone like Millicent who isn't as hard-headed? Or maybe more Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff rep, especially more inter-house friendships. I think it'll be funny if at some point, one of them goes to sit at another house's table because "they're my friend š and there's no rule against it except for like on three days of the year. stop looking at me weird"
Yes, Iām still taking suggestions!
I actually plan on having some OCs in my rewrite because most of the Slytherins in the books are explicitly part of Malfoyās gang, therefore wannabe DEs. But, I can definitely try and have someone like Millicent be friends with another student of a different House/Gryffindor (theyād have to be pureblood, but yes).
As for the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw rep, Iāve already developed several students for both Houses for the Marauders and Golden Eras. I think theyād be so fun to write. Iām so excited!
I meant the first Wizarding War! He was born 22 August 1976, and the war ended around 1981, so he'll have been a child back then
Oh shit, youāre right! I completely forgot that he mustāve been born during the first war. In that case, I think you might be onto somethingš¤

What's your opinion on each of the Weasleys?
Hi! Thatās a really great question! I might be adding some headcanons into the mix, hope thatās okay.
Bill Weasley: I had a major crush on him when I was younger, he was just so badass. I still like him, but now I focus on Fleur. Anyway, I picture him as a third-parent because the oldest kids (especially in big families like his) are always plunged into the responsibilities of caring for the younger ones when the parents are unavailable for any reason.
Charlie Weasley: Heās asexual, you canāt tell me otherwise. I also had a Charlie phase when I first read about him, mostly because of his dragons. I think he was also forced into the responsibility of being yet another parent, but perhaps not as much as Bill. I also think he intentionally decided to be far from his family, not because he doesnāt love them or anything, but perhaps because home got overwhelming.
Percy Weasley: Thereās a lot of controversy here. I donāt think about him much, but I relate to him in some ways. I think he was feeling forgotten. In a big family, the kids are constantly fighting for the spotlight, for the love and praise of their parents. But then, when you add Harry to the mix, it just becomes impossible to get your parents to listen for a minute. I think he got lost in his search for validation, though in no way do I think heās way of handling it was correct.
Fred Weasley: Everyone says that heās the harsher twin, that heās the leader, and honestly, I see it. I do think he was extremely sensitive, despite the way he behaves in public. Like you insult something heās already self-conscious about and heāll cut you down with words, but heāll also sulk about it for the rest of the day.
George Weasley: Heās my favorite. Solely because of the immense post-war potential now that he only has one ear. I feel like people should realize that this is the perfect opportunity to introduce the Deaf community into the wizarding world. (Am I self-portraying here? Yes, yes I am). George Weasley talking in sign language? Sign me up!
Ron Weasley: I donāt understand why so many people dislike him. He was an amazing friend to Harry, he was brave, he was loyal, he was just awesome. I think a lot of people saw him get jealous a few times and clung to it. Heās one of the youngest kids in his family, the pressure is insane especially because of all the accomplishments each of his siblings have. Cut him some damn slack.
Ginny Weasley: The movies destroyed her. She was incredibly badass throughout the entire series and I loved her. One thing I will complain about is the way she treated Fleur for no reason. Like, sweetie, your internalized misogyny is showing. Other than that, loved her. Also I have this headcanons where she shaves her hair off after the war, and Molly completely flips because her daughter had such pretty hair.
Molly Weasley: She was, by no means, a perfect mother. Thereās a lot of things I really didnāt like about her (like the way she never bothered to differentiate her twins), but I never doubted her love and devotion to her kids. Plus she was such an angel when it came to Harry, she was just what the poor guy needed.
Arthur Weasley: Please donāt kill me, but Iām very neutral about him. Heās a good father, of course, but I personally donāt feel any kind of attachment to the man, I donāt know why.
I think Iāve got all the Weasleys, whew! Thank you, Anon, for the question. It was fun to answer š
Harry Potter Rewrite: Help!
Iāve been outlining more or less what I want the final result for my Harry Potter rewrite to look like but Iām stuck on two outcomes of Hariās childhood:
NOTE: I have a headcanon in which the Potters are Indian, so James names his son Hari. I think I mentioned this before, if I didnāt, feel free to ask about it.
Petuniaās marriage starts falling apart when Lily dies.
Vernon didnāt let her go to her sisterās funeral because he was sure that the place would be crawling with āfreaksā. Even if Petunia begged, he would still prevent her from going.
Vernon made nasty comments about Lily and Jamesā death, saying that theyāre two less freaks to worry about.
Eventually Petunia leaves her husband and moves back in with her parents (who are alive in this version).
Petunia decides to go to college, a decision supported by her parents since they promised to help her financially and with the boys.
She studies to become an English teacher.
She loves her job. Also, she might fall in love with the History teacher.
She remarries, and itās a man who treats her right and is good with the boys.
Both boys are treated equally while with her.
Dudley and Hari get along well. Although whenever Dudley returns from his weekends at his fatherās, they fight a lot.
Hari grows up knowing heās a wizard and knowing (more or less, because Petunia didnāt have all the details) what had happened to his parents.
Many moreā¦
Remus, along with several other people who believed Sirius was innocent, start protesting and putting pressure on the Ministry so that they can give Sirius a proper trial.
Sirius is renamed innocent.
Dumbledore still refuses to hand Hari over to them, even though they were the rightful guardians of the child.
The last straw is when Dumbledore casually corrects them and says that Hariās name has been changed to Harry.
They whitewashed his name. They were livid.
Remus and Sirius, along with some handpicked friends to help them, manage to kidnap Hari.
They take him to Wales, further away from Remusā former home. They cast an insane amount of spells to hide themselves from Dumbledore. They were untraceable.
Other than the protections needed, they lived a muggle life.
They have other children (the names Iām still working out), thereās five kids in total.
Two of those children are werewolves, attacked at a young age by another wolf pack thatās not Fenrir Greyback. TheyāRemus, especiallyāwanted to bring them comfort when he found out about them.
Hari lives in a loud, chaotic household in the middle of nowhere.
Lyall Lupin eventually moves in with them because Remus worried for his fatherāthe man was old and alone.
And many moreā¦
NOTE: The outcome of the votings will determine the overall plot of Hariās era. Choose wisely, what do you want to see?
Hey your HP fic sounds amazing what is your Ao3 account so I can subscribe? Thanks š
Hi! Thank you! I donāt have anything posted yet, but Iām hoping I can have something done and shared by New Year.
You can find me as āthesoftrainbowsā (same as my tumblr). I would attach a link but Iām not sure how to do that.
Thank you for the support!
For the rewrite thing, can you please show a Hermione & Luna friendship instead of what they had in canon?
Definitely! I always thought Hermione and Luna couldāve balanced each other out so well.
I want to change the way the girls viewed each other in the books. Fleur is no longer going to be hated on for being feminine. Cho (whose name Iām planing to change) will not be made fun of for grieving her dead boyfriend. And so many other things.
Harry Potter Rewrite.
Iām just going to reinvent the Harry Potter world as a whole, because with each new detail I add to my fic, i stray further away from canon. Like, thereās just so many plot holes with simple solutions, and I just refuse to write stories in a world where they would shit right on the spot and then carry on like nothing. I refuse.
Now, is there any plot hole about the worldbuilding that bugs you? Tell me about it, maybe try to explain a solution you have as well?
Do you have a specific headcanon that diversifies the character/plot? Let me know!
I wanna hear all of the ideas you may have, and Iāll do my best to portray it in a way that makes sense for the era.
