“Can we not just stay in for the night, baby?”

Could anyone blame you for not wanting to go to another party that would just be a repeat of the last? Or why should you have to go to something when you know you would find more enjoyment at home with Maddy accompanying you? But after all, this was a personal request from Maddy for you to come, and you have never been one to deny her. Perhaps it was the instant compatibility and connection you felt when the both of you met. But it deterred you from ever disappointing her or ever denying her something she deeply wants.

Tonight though, the request for you to come to a party with her was something that made you reluctant. Primarily ‘cause of the fact that it was a rinse and repeat of all the other times you’ve gone. As well as the fact that it was nearly summer break and you just wanted to spend all the time in the world at home with Maddy.

But she was persistent, some would even say stubborn. But that’s exactly what you loved about her. She could be selfish in the right contexts. Such as the time you fucked her in the janitor’s closet and she recorded it. When you found out, you weren’t even the littlest bothered. If anything, you simply made the comment, “You got my good side.”

And her selfishness and stubbornness led to you huffing and puffing in your car. You took a moment, humming to the offer before letting a huff. “Fine.” Maddy let out a little squeak of excitement and hopped out of the vehicle with you doing the same.

There may have been a moment of instant regret when you stepped into the house. Lights flash left and right with bodies of teenagers blocking the door with you only able to stay close to Maddy by holding her hand. And the obnoxiously loud music was only adding fuel to the fire that was your annoyances.

And even when you found the kitchen, where most of the girls and Elliot were, you held a permanent scowl on your face. Glancing around you occasionally, your expression is enough for people to know that they should just back off and not try any attempt of making conversation.

Since you got together with Maddy, her personality outside of school and parties, in general, were a complete contrast. A contrast that you liked because you got to see her more vulnerable and open to your comfort with her own problems. Like her dad being a drunk who couldn’t hold a job for his life. You liked when she opened up to you about that type of stuff so you could get a bit closer and learn more about what made your girlfriend tick.

But with parties and school, she buried all of that. It sometimes honestly felt like you were talking to someone else. She kept so much hidden from everyone else that it almost seemed like she had a mask on half the time. Hiding the fact that deep down, she was hurting just as everyone else does. But perhaps Maddy just preferred keeping that vulnerability open to only you.

Nonetheless, the moment she spotted the rest of the girls, whatever side that you had been exposed to was forgotten and replaced with this new face. One that you were conflicted on and how to feel. So, with not so much as a little of a warning, you exited the kitchen into the chaos that was the living room.

The countless teens you bumped into were aggravating, considering you didn’t have a beer or blunt in hand to numb the ever-growing annoyance in your mind. Wanting to be anywhere else besides here and you were seriously regretting even entertaining the idea of coming, to Maddy.

Because deep down, you know that it would lead to you sitting on the couch with your phone in hand. Scrolling through your Instagram feeds until your thumb is cramped up. Sparing a few glances to a few party-goers that could be unpleasantly loud. It wouldn’t bother you that much, but for fuck sake, you could hear them over the music.

“Hey, Y/n.”

A deep sigh escaped your lips at that all too familiar voice. Swallowing the sudden knot in your throat before you turned your head to find Cassie standing at the other end of the couch with a nervous smile.

It would be a lie if you said you were surprised to see her here. As much as you didn’t want to be rude, you knew she was chasing for some dick. Her purity had been shattered after the bullshit she pulled at Lexi’s play and your respect for her was long forgotten before.

There were unresolved feelings that you had for the girl, that was for sure. But even so, you had no intent on patching over the wounds she left in your psyche. It was better this way, as now you could constantly remember the fact that she betrayed you and ruined whatever future you had seen with her.

“Hi, Cassie.” You greeted as nice as you could muster. It was quite hard to even look at her nowadays.

The girl huffed, taking the spot on the opposite side of the couch, making sure you knew there was still a whole body of space. Something you wished you could thank her for but didn’t think much further on it.

“This party is shitty if I’m being honest.” Her blunt comment made you chuckle with a nod of agreement.

“Well, you aren’t the only one who thinks that,” you said. “Was practically dragged her by the collar. I just want to be home watching Tuamie on repeat.”

Cassie hummed, lips curled into a smile as she offered an extra red solo cup she had in her hands. Of course, you took it to begin the process of numbing the inevitable headache you would feel in the next few minutes from the combination of the kids screaming the lyrics of 151 Rum and the harsh aroma of sweaty teenagers. You weren’t even going to get into the fact that the mixture of booze and weed did a number on your senses.

“How’re you and Maddy?” Cassie mused, leaning her arms against her knees as her eyes were focused on you.

Taking a sip of your drink, you smacked your lips together with a light shrug. “We’re good,” you answered. “Planning on going to Santorini this summer. After that, we’re back here and spending the last few weeks of summer together before school starts up again.”

If it wasn’t evident before, the pain in her eyes was now. You knew that despite everything she’d done in the past, Cassie still loved you. And in a way, you loved her. There would always be a spot in your heart, maybe even a tiny sliver, that was reserved for her. Compacted into the fineness memories you had with her and the things you cherished when being with her. So, you knew that she would feel some type of way about hearing how good things were with you and Maddy.

Blinking rapidly, rubbing your eyes slightly as you took another sip of the sweet liquid swashing in your cup. “You and Nate patch things up yet?” You asked, glancing at her as you pulled the brim of the cup away from your mouth, licking your lips.

She shrugged. “I don’t even know what’s going on with us anymore,” she said in exasperation. “It just feels like there’s nothing there, you know? Like, endgame.”

You could only hum, inhaling deeply as a wave of exhaustion ran over you. Hands clenching and unclenching, the tremble in your fingers just barely noticeable. “You alright?” You heard Cassie ask, and you weren’t sure if you slurred out a response or just nodded.

What you did know is that a pair of arms caught you when your body lulled forward, a brief moment of unconsciousness. You weren’t sure how the hell you got this drunk so quickly after one cup. But the more you thought about it, the quicker the exhaustion gained on you.

One thing was for sure and that was in your reality that faded in and out of view, the music of the party growing quieter and quieter with each step taken by the help of whoever was holding you, your body was slowly shutting down. And when you felt the cold tiled floor of a bathroom, your tired eyes flickered up. Finding Cassie rapidly locking the door and unbuttoning her pants and yanking them down.

“Cassie?” You slurred, eyes clenching shut for a second, eyes fighting to stay open. “Cassie, what’re you doin’?”

Peeking inside a bedroom, finding it empty and vacant of anyone, she heard a door behind her open. She frowned, finding Cassie step out, adjusting her pants before walking in the direction of the party still ongoing.

So, out of curiosity, she walked towards the room that the Howard had exited. The bathroom was dark with her hand aimlessly running up the wall until she found the light switch. But right before leaving, there were the sounds of yells. And right before Maddy hopped into your car, she saw Rue pulling Cassie by the hair. Punching her and shoving her to the ground with Jules quickly running over to stop her girlfriend. And as pleasing as the sight was, Maddy was focused on you and your health.

When they got back to your place, Maddy was glad that some level of consciousness returned to your body. Sure, you still weighed a ton like a bag of bricks, but you could somewhat stand on your own. She got you up the stairs and to your room where she carefully undressed you and got you into bed. Hoping deep down that you didn’t remember anything that happened, just so it could save you the pain.

A few hours after getting you home, Maddy woke up to the sound of sniffling and the bathtub running. Her brows knitted together as she hastily moved from your bed and in the direction of the bathroom. The door was left open, leaving an invitation for whomever to wander in.

So, with caution, Maddy stepped inside and found you in the bath, hands over your face as your body shook with sobs. It took only a second for Maddy to wrap her arms around you, whispering quiet reassurances into your ear, hoping it would calm you down.

“She said she would go to the police if I tried to stop her,” you cried. “She wouldn’t listen to me, Maddy. I’m so sorry.”

Maddy caressed your head, kissing your temple as she held you into her chest. “It’s not your fault, Y/n,” she whispered. “It’s not your fault.”

She wished she could save you from this pain, but the damage was already done and there wasn’t a single thing she could do about it.

He granted them permission to stay, but the Tsahìk Ronal was not happy with his decision, she does not trust these outsiders, especially with how they are part human themselves.

“Come, I will show you our village” Tsireya helped with their bags and led them to an empty marui on the far side of the village. He was glad at least one of his children was hospitable, he would need words with his son later. He knows that Ao’nung takes after his aunts views on them, it is evident in the scowls and remarks he threw at them.

“Who were they? ‘Wari?” a small Metkayinan woman stood next to the man, snapping him out of his trance and placing a gentle hand on his back, urging him to look at her. When he turned his head down he was face to face with his mate, ___. He did not see her with the crowd when the Omaticayans arrived, ‘she must have been deep in the ocean again’, he mused.

“Sempul!” Tsireya screeched from the other side of the hut, round cheeks turning a deep shade of purple, hiding behind the woven basket of fish she brought out.
