Yippee, I've finally finished a podcast. What shall I do with my time??
Hmmm, a book? Hey you haven't finished the last of us you should do that... I have no idea what to start. A movie maybe?- *tries to stall while reaching for another podcast*
CW: antisemitism, pale of settlement, pogroms, genocide, cultural erasure
I don't think goyim can really conceive of how much Jews actually hold back in our criticism of antisemitism in media, and when you hear us it is often because we see a dangerous message that you don't... Yet.
I have a complicated relationship with Tim Burton's rendition of The Corpse Bride. I love it as a beautiful piece of stop motion art, but it isn't what it should have been, he took a Jewish story from the Pale and with intention stripped it of its Jewish origins. This alone is incredibly antisemitic. The criticism you will hear has probably been "this is a Jewish story, it should have retained its Jewish elements" but have you heard why we feel strongly about this story?
The story of the corpse bride is incredibly important to me and was born from Jewish trauma and Christian violence. Mobs would routinely attack Jewish weddings, they would murder brides and they would bury them in unmarked graves by the roadside still in their wedding clothes, they reasoned that without Jewish wives there are no Jewish mother's. Jews are intrinsic to the story.
It is antisemitism to take our story, about our pain, at the hands of non-jews and strip it for "useful" parts, in fact it is heartbreaking every time.
We are often forced to pick our battles and fighting a battle over a movie that has already been released by a director with a cult following is not worth it, you only hear us speak up in numbers when the antisemitism may lead to another century of violence, because raising our voice means picking a fight, because so many of you already see our pain as inconvenient and it is exhausting to never be heard.

Be more chill is closing tomorrow, ending the run of a beautiful musicals with an amazing cast. What Be More Chill mean to me is a homage to the losers, geeks, the whatever in highschool. The need to be noticed, to be popular, the need to Be More Chill. I feel as though Jeremy represents how many in highschool struggle with fitting in and standing out. How many can relate to his insecurity and what many people do to be noticed. I’ve heard stories that people have cried during many performances. Not only teens but, also adults who could relate or reminisce on times when they acted just like them. This story is a link to many’s past and an example for the future. To show that you are not unnoticed and the peer pressure to be someone you aren’t. Even Rich, Jake, Brooke, Chloe, and Jenna are examples of insecurity. The Squip showed that they are as strong as you think they are. All of them are not completely confident and are just like Jeremy, scared of never being enough. They lyrics show the pain that they feel but, don’t show. They express the anxiety every character feels. A big thank you to Joe Iconis, Joe Tracz, and most importantly Ned Vizzini. Without Ned this beautiful story would not even exist. Joe Iconis and Joe Tracz for creating an amazing musicals, score, and cast. Thank you the directors, costume designers, and all who work to make this happen. Thank you to every Be More Chill actor ,old and new, you have been an active representation of these characters and their adventures. We as fans have always supported you and we will still do so. We know this production has helped many in desperate time of anxiety and peer pressure. Thank you for making a story of adventure and most importantly a story that warns for being some you aren’t. Thank you for everything you have done, ever since Ned Vizzini put his pen to a paper with a story of a loser with the name of Jeremy.
Thank you we are in-depth to you forever.
this video was made by the devil
i’m gonna say it.
there is nothing wrong with you for liking cartoons, comic books, cosplays, dolls, nickelodeon, cartoon network, superheros, disney, fanfiction, video games, drawing, basically anything that is label to be “kids stuff.” life is too damn short to be boring; who the hell wants to just be into things are acceptable by adult standards.
enjoy the things that make you happy, and if it’s something that people view as immature and childish you should not be ashamed. you are fine the way you are.
he's my warren kepler in the flesh.
he's the opposite of a southern gentleman.
this is my only physical headcanon of this man. he infuriates me and i need to say it.
playing dnd isn't enough, you gotta have their unstable sleep schedule too
reminder that starkid musicals do eventually end up on youtube for free, all shot and edited professionally so there is no need to bootleg shows made by an independent company. i’m sure being patient for the digital ticket or youtube release will be well worth the wait!
I think a One Piece Monkey Island Au could be possible. The style and humor could definitely be interesting to see play out. Pirates + More Pirates = An absolute win to me
Guybrush is still a pirate wanted for many smaller crimes like MI2 but also his incredibly unique sword style. He would also still be happily married to Elaine who is now a member of the world government as a marine and governor of Melee or the tri-island area. They live in Melee located maybe in one of the Blues or the grand line before the introduction of the New World.
Side characters like Morgan, Stan, and The Voodoo Lady could also big players in this universe. Morgan admires Guybrush for his admirable swordfighting but also a pirate hunter working for the marines. She could have history connecting to Zorro or connecting towards Nami’s backstory. Stan could be an annoying nuisance who comes and bothers the straw hats with lackluster products and random things due to a change in career, probably wooing over Ussop, Chopper, and Luffy.
Now the voodoo lady could be a bit of a villain or a source of uncertain waters. Her powers could be magic or even the use of a devil fruit, like Basil Hawkins and his voodoo and tarot card based powers. No one knows if she’s on their side, the other side, or a side of her own. She could also be able to see very clear visions of the future like Madam Shirley. She like in the Monkey Island games could stay a mysterious force that looms over all and watches all.
Lechuck’s power could be a devil fruit that allows him to become a zombie but not face the consequences of dying after contact with sunlight. His power could make him still alive but also allow him to become a ghost or spirit at will, like Brook. He still would seek vengeance for the hand of Elaine and be seen as a feared pirate over in the “Caribbean” area of the world and maybe spread towards other nearby islands and their folklore. Not many would be able to have proven him real especially since there would not be many who would live to tell the tale, maybe Guybrush might be the only survivor. Something he might take with great pride i.e. “That Time I Blew Up Lechuck”.
The straw hats could arrive on melee and the island in between looking for treasure hunting purposes but then get roped into the hijinks of Tales. Where they meet the plunderbunny couple in the middle of the action or the moments before.
Either way I could see it, pirates, pirates, and more pirates? Hijinks and humor littered throughout? Sounds like quite the adventure to me!
Come aboard and bring along all your hopes and dreams (and your rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle too)!
Day Four: Monkey Island AU
What’s this? You want to shift outside of canon? You have an idea that wouldn’t normally fit within the structure of the game’s canon? You have a…. gasp! An Alternate Universe?! Share with the fans, what’s an AU you would do with Monkey Island?
