some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

I read this and wondered what the HELL I’d missed.

Then I realized they were talking about IT like the guys that fix your tech, not IT as in Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

I was so confused for a minute there.

Gotham Skies glow Brave and Bold

When Thomas Wayne dies, everyone feels it.

It doesn’t matter that it’s late at night. It doesn’t matter that most people are asleep or that some are so hopped up on caffeine they can taste color or that some are so drunk they can barely remember if they’re wearing shoes or not.

None of it matters.

Because suddenly, without warning, every single person in Gotham, from the poorest urchin to the sleaziest mob boss to the richest philanthropist, hears a sound like a gun going off right before something snaps.

It’s like the world stops.

Suddenly, breathing is impossible, throats caught on nothing but the shocking feeling of loss. Suddenly, skin becomes freezing cold, like all the warmth has been sucked from the room. Suddenly, knees buckle and eyes shoot open and heads turn unerringly towards the same place, looking to where there is now a hollow space in countless chests.

And suddenly, everyone knows.

Thomas Wayne is dead.

Gotham’s Sky is dead.

Someone killed their Sky.

The world stands still, breaths caught and fingers freezing and Souls screaming.

And then the world burns.

Because if DC and Katekyo Hitman Reborn! existed in the same universe, you know everyone in Gotham would have Flames and you know the Waynes would be their Skies.

You’ll be missed Devon, and even if it’s incomplete, your drawing still brings me so much joy.

Sometime in the summer of 2023, I asked my boyfriend at the time Devon, to draw some fan art of the goddess Mariana from Treasures for a Treasure by @thewritingdj hoping that I would be able to share it. In October of that same year, he passed away suddenly due to medical complications. It's been really hard remembering and even wanting to share his work because it was incomplete and I know he wasn't happy with the end result at the time and was redoing it. But I feel like his efforts need to be seen at the very least appreciated. I just want everyone to know that no matter what goes on in your life you will be missed. It will definitely be by your loved ones and if you don't believe that there are people that you pass by everyday who will miss your existence in your smile. Life is a very fragile thing and it's hard to see it pass. But enjoy some artwork of an amazing fanfiction that continues to make me smile.

hey! I'm a one piece fanfiction lover (it'll be pretty obvious as my fanarts and au's are posted) and I'm even a writer! I recently read the fanfic "treasures for a treasure" by TheWritingDJ on AO3 and was enchanted by one of its characters, Mariana. Recently Oda revealed that Mother Nature is a real entity in One Piece and that gave me even more inspiration! This fanart is a representation of Mother Nature as I imagine it, but it was strongly inspired by Mariana from TheWritingDJ! Hope you like it!
