I've Been Thinking A Lot About Constantine. The Movie, Not The Show Or Comic, As I'm Not Really Familiar

I've been thinking a lot about Constantine. The movie, not the show or comic, as I'm not really familiar with them.

Specifically, I keep thinking about the scene with him and Tilda Swindon, Gabriel, in the church near the start of the film. It's when the film first tells us that Constantine is doomed to go to Hell when he dies (since a large portion of this film is based on a misunderstanding of Catholic doctrine regarding suicide). They start talking about the necessity of faith, which Constantine argues he has. But Gabriel corrects him. Constantine doesn't have faith in God, he has knowledge of God, which are very different things.

And it makes me think of how a lot of evangelical Christians try to argue that there is proof that the Christian God exists. There are alleged miracles, people who have claimed to hear His voice, accounts of near death experiences. There's a whole subset of Christian fiction that involves atheists or people of other faiths literally meeting God and being told that Christianity is the way to go.

And this all just seems very antithetical to the entire point of having faith. If you believe in God due to perceived proof, that's not faith. It's knowledge - at least from their perspective.

I don't really know where I'm going with this. It's just been swirling around in my head for a while.

Sorry, no stream tonight.

Twitch and OBS are both being absolute dicks and I've spent the last hour trying to fix it to no avail.

I'm really sorry everyone

I am really tempted to try to take an inventory of all the books I own. It'd be useful for me to keep track of what I have so I don't accidentally get duplicates. And it'd be kind of neat to post it here because I love to see what people have in their libraries.

But.....

I own over 300 books, at least. Probably a lot more. And, due to limited shelf space, I kind of have them stashed everywhere around my house.

It would be a huge undertaking for me just to make a full list of them all. And then organize that list. And I know myself. I would absolutely include details about what specific edition I have. Have I finished them? For the unread ones, have I just not started them yet, or are they dnf? And on and on and on....

So much effort and I'm not sure if I can really commit to it

I am so done arguing with people about Hogwarts Legacy. At this point, if you don't get why supporting the game is harmful, it's because you've chosen not to.

The reasoning has been laid out in the most hand-holding way possible by so many people. Many of whom have been extremely nice and calm about it. But that doesn't stop y'all from whining about how everyone against the game is a mean ole bully harassing you for no reason. (I am begging you to read the last part of that sentence in a highly condescending old-timey prospector voice)

I could go on all day about the bad faith arguments that keep popping up about why the game is good actually. Nevermind that it's about stopping a rebellion by Jewish stereotypes because it would be disadvantageous for the oppressors Wizards to not have them be subservient. They also really want to gloss over the game having an MtF character with a fully masculine voice and face named Sirona Ryan.

(Sorry, tangent, this is a world wherein people use magic to alter the appearance of themselves or others in literally every book, but it's not possible to fully transition????)

Anyway! I don't want to, and shouldn't have to, spend any more of my time explaining why capitalism isn't a free pass to buy a game that supports a racist, transphobic, and honestly just plain evil person. If you can't comprehend why using Twitter is different from spending $80 on a game, it's because you don't actually care. It's not because the Jewish and trans communities didn't spend months explaining it to you in ways that infants could understand. You just do not care about those communities.

And I wish you would just admit it.

Just say that you value your personal entertainment over other people's actual lives.

Stop pretending that it is anything else.

It isn't. And you know it.

I will be streaming State of Decay 2 tonight.

I don’t know exactly what time. I had planned to start streaming earlier than this, but my dinner order arrived super late, so whenever I’m done eating I’ll post a time to start on here.

I am finally done with The Secret History. I never have to read a single word of that awful book ever again. It is one of the worst things I've ever read and I hate that it exists. But now I'm done with it. It's over. I'm finally free.

And now, I just want to ask one little question.

How on earth are so many people hyping up a book this racist, this misogynistic, this homophobic, this incredibly overwritten?

I just don't understand how so many people can say that it's good when it's one of the most bigoted things I've ever seen.
