The energy to make magic is stored in the soul, while the mechanism to realise magic is in the body. Whether or not you are a Makar is tied to your soul, but a soul without a body cannot make magic.

A soul is naturally adept at using its tethered body (even as infants), but for the body to use the soul, one needs training. In a fight-flight scenario, the soul will command the body to do the magic needed to protect oneself, but to do magic consciously takes practice. __________________________________________________________

Mages are aware of the tether between soul and body, which is why they cremate their dead. They don't know much more than that there is a tether (maybe if they didn't kill all their Makars they'd know some more but ah well)

This is also why reviving a dead person only works if you have the soul and the body, thus why Joseph preserves Con's body.

That's why Con can't use chaos through Call's body until after his body is burned. Because some part of his soul is still sorta tethered to his original body.

M could not do magic at all after hopping into Janusz's body until his original body was cremated. He absolutely panicked about it at first. I'm literally undecided as to whether he even knows that burning bodies gives free-floating souls their magic back. __________________________________________________________

Call is an earth mage. Not a metal mage like his parents, though. I imagine him pulling up pillars of rock from the ground and moving them around. He is not a chaos mage. He does successfully trick a lot of people, though.

If you look hard, you can see Call's blue eyes shift to blue-grey whenever he "uses" chaos magic (that's Con showing). __________________________________________________________

Aaron, Con and Call wake up M in Gold Year. M is the one who teaches Con how to crack and move souls successfully. Con cracks Alex's soul, and pushes Aaron and himself in Alex's body. M also expected to make the jump, but Aaron and Con worked together to keep him in Call's body.

If M made the jump, he would have had huge control over the body. Without M, Aaron and Con have shared custody of the body, and Alex kinda just sits there.

Post-Gold Year, Call and M make 1.5 souls, while Alex, Aaron, and Con make 0.5 souls.

When the god of death isn't floating, his feet end up leaving trails of dead vegetation wherever he goes, much like the god from “Princess Mononoke”! I like to think that he doesn't wear shoes, so he ends up stepping directly on the grass wherever he goes, but he doesn't just kill the vegetation, no no.

For a moment, flowers and grass grow around his feet, before wilting and turning brownish, only to die within seconds as Reaper's feet start walking again, leaving behind footprints well marked by earth and death.
