Page 3: Find out what indigenous lands you reside on. Native-land.ca has a nifty site dedicated to showing indigenous lands. (I feel like we tell people all the time to “educate yourselves” but seriously, DO IT.) Okay so once you have this ->

Page 4: Support Indigenous communities! You can do this in a variety of ways!

- Donate to local ndn mutual aid funds.

- Donate to Indigenous led businesses, education institutions, elder care programs, and more.

- Ask your local museum/library/archive how they’re representing local tribes (repatriation maybe??)

- Support language revitalization programs.

- Support LGBTQ+ orgs that directly support queer Indigenous folks.

Page 5: Remember Indigenous Peoples are NOT a monolith. I suggested learning your local Indigenous Peoples because we don’t all practice the same customs or speak the same languages and I’m tired of explaining “no my tribe does NOT just give me free money-“ We have different needs and priorities and we’d appreciate it if you took the extra step supporting us in specific ways. Ways that WE say are most helpful.

Systemic racism against Indigenous Peoples in Canada is very real and present, especially in the health system.

Today, Joyce Echaquan, an Indigenous woman from Manawan First Nation, died in horrible conditions and around racist staff at Joliette hospital in Montreal city. She shared a live video of her on Facebook crying for help in her mother tongue, saying that she received too much medication. In the video, we can also hear two caregivers saying violent and harmful words to her, like “fucking fat woman, it’s better if you’re dead” “are you done joking around”

This is so revolting, and unfortunately it’s a reality for the Indigenous community here. They’re completely marginalized. The health care system doesn’t care about them.

Now that I’m set on doing a whole series of this, I decided to change a bunch of things about shading and shape language to help things read better with multiple characters running around and generally make it easier to draw. I’ll eventually go back and redo the first page to look like this.
