I Often Feel As Though I Am The Only One Who Enjoyed The Dark Swan Arc. Perhaps This Is Because I Am

I often feel as though I am the only one who enjoyed the Dark Swan arc. Perhaps this is because I am a goth, and thus much prefer when characters ‘go goth’ (or really, just wear black and have cool hair), as opposed to their normal look…

Not saying that I dislike regular Emma - I love her so much - but her little ten episode goth phase was very nice.

Also, she was so dramatic! Her entrance at Granny’s was very reminiscent of 30s black and white horror film villains - very Bela Lugosi with the lighting. Or perhaps Morticia Addams, seeing as it was in colour…

This is totally my experience. Every piercing that I’ve had (I’ve been going since I was nine) has gotten infected - never terribly, and it’s always calmed down after a while and eventually heals, but it’s still an annoying process. I follow the instructions, and clean it, I don’t sleep on it, and still my ears hate me…

I bet my body fucking hates it whenever I get a piercing. Poor thing is like HEY THERE'S A PUNCTURE WOUND. IN THE FACE. A FOREIGN OBJECT IN THE PUNCTURE WOUND. And I'm like oh yeah lmao I know, it's there on purpose. THE FUCK YOU MEAN IT'S THERE ON PURPOSE?? Yeah I got it put there on purpose, just heal around it. THE FUCK YOU MEAN IT'S THERE ON PURPOSE. WHY IS THERE A PUNCTURE WOUND WITH AN OBJECT IN IT. ON PURPOSE.

And I'm like chill, it's sterile, we're gonna clean it twice a day so it won't get infected. I DON'T FUCKING CARE THAT IT'S STERILE. And I'm like wow the fuck you mean you don't care? Do you want it to get infected?

YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD ALSO MAKE IT NOT GET INFECTED? NOT. HAVING. WOUNDS. WITH. FOREIGN. OBJECTS. IN THEM.

Since Goku//naga unfortunately makes me a tad uncomfortable I think the thought of Kiyo being a middle man for them is incredibly quaint and balances it so perfectly;; touch-starved lanky lad with two extremely affectionate partners of absolute opposite heights who are just constantly all over him,,,my brain is ROTTED.

Usually all my Shinnaga polyships are of Kiyo and Angie flustering the hell out of the third, very intimidated, member; but this one really gets my braincells running SO FAST with Kiyo being the flustered one for once 😭

Why do I find the idea of UT sitting in a fancy carriage being all serious hilarious? He’s got his pointy (probably dirty) mortician boots on, having a great time being all professional… perhaps this is a kind of insight as to how he is when he’s alone, just kind of there. It is interesting that he’s not smiling, and we can’t see any of his lovely hair, even though we all know who it is in the carriage, and he’s basically known for his hair. And considering the glee with which he revealed to Stoker that he manipulated him the entire time.

I think this portrayal makes him look a lot more sinister than the usual cackling fool he makes himself out to be, even more so in comparison to Stoker’s obvious hope. I believe (to my knowledge) he’s laughing about it in the voice over, but it really sticks with me how cold he is in that glimpse we get of him. Perhaps the jovial undertaker is a bit of a act for a man that is very sad - I know, a very original idea that no one has ever suggested!

I am a bit sad that we’re getting more serious UT instead of silly now that he’s a proper villain ( I say knowing he’s been like that since the Luxury Liner Arc), but oh well. And we do get to see him tear up in the Emerald Witch arc, so I guess we’ll see. Early UT may have been a bit creepy, but he was so much fun! Bring back silly goth undertaker with his stupid props and scenery - his shop was beautiful (can you tell I miss it?)

It must be said that the Nurse Ratched of the ‘75 film had some villainous tendencies. She was condescending, unfair and used her patients as an excuse to keep things the way she liked them. She was on a power high, and most certainly had a sense of superiority. While her treatment of her patients was not quite abuse, medical abuse - especially that committed by nurses - is not acceptable and should not be ignored.

That said, her treatment of McMurphy was entirely justified, at least in my mind. McMurphy - who was known to not be mentally ill - was a misogynist and an arse, who never once respected any of the nurses (even before she gave him any reason to dislike her). I believe him to be entirely unsympathetic. This warped my watching experience, and caused me to actually enjoy when Mildred belittled him. A story that should have been the uplifting tale of disabled men rising up against their domineering nurse is watered down by how unlikable it’s protagonist is.

Just finished Ratched 2020, and I’m conflicted. I loved it for the most part, but Mildred was clearly a completely different character to that of the film.

So yes, Mildred Ratched is, most certainly, a villain. She just isn’t as bad as Michael Myers or Count Dracula or Hannibal Lecter, but she is a villain. The manner in which she is viewed by the original audience presents her actions as worse than they are, focusing on the more trivial - such as her emasculating of McMurphy - over her heinous manipulations of her actually disabled patients.

Once again, the patriarchy would present Mildred Ratched as a bitch, and a liar, rather than the cunning, selfish, horrible person that she is, and the depth that comes with it.

Hot Take: Mildred Ratched is not a villain. She’s just a woman in a predominantly male field prescribing to the accepted medical practices at the time. It was the treatments and McMurphy’s (Jack Nicholson) reckless endangerment of other patients that were the problem, not her.

Yes! Yes! I totally agree with this hot take 100% Especially in Milos’ version he mentioned how it would be more “evil” or “disturbing” if Ratched didn’t think that she was in the wrong, that she truly and wholly believed that what she was doing was intentional to help them. She was most certainly is a woman (a woman with immense status) working in a male dominated feild, running a male dominated ward. She certainly had to leave her own opinions, ideas, and parts of herself at the door on the Outside. She wants to make sure that her authority and station will not be questioned hence why she is seen as mechanical, stoic, and “evil”

She’s most certainly not that, perhaps, even with my own interpretation, Mildred Ratched might be inclined to keep some people under her control out of a sense of superiority but ultimately that superiority is acceptable as she is a successful woman (and when during the book and movie being published or premiered) there was the second wave feminist movement. Something I’m positive that Mildred would pay close attention too.

Hot Take: Mildred Ratched Is Not A Villain. She’s Just A Woman In A Predominantly Male Field Prescribing
