Stanley won the Tumblr sexyman contest? Alright, y'all know what this calls for, Stan angst! (Tw: sad animal content ahead)
Okay okay, so basically when Stan and Ford were kids, Stan found a little bird egg that had fallen from a tree , so of course him and Ford spend hours trying to get it back to the nest but in the end they ultimately fail to return it. Ford said it was probably a lost cause and to just leave it but Stan was resolute, he didn't want to give up on the little guy within, so he decided to take the egg home with him and try to keep it alive.
Him and Ford manage to sneak the egg in without their parents noticing, and Ford helps Stan get books from the library (Stan is banned from all near libraries) to learn how to care for the egg. Stan spends all of his time caring for the little egg and trying to keep it a secret from his parents so that they don't take it away, he even made up all sorts of excuses to skip school so that he could stay home with the egg.
Eventually the egg does manage to hatch and a gross little creature emerges, a tiny baby bird. Stan is the most excited little kid as he hears the egg start to crack, watching with wide eyes as the shell falls apart, his hands gripping the side of his dresser as he peers over into the box, completely silent as the little bird starts trying to chirp.
He's amazed, his heart melts as he finally sees the creature he spent so long caring for, the little baby he helped bring into the world. His melted heart is replaced by pride, he was successful! He actually did it! He couldn't wait to show Ford when he got back from school!
Stan's usually ungraceful hands made careful, almost calculated, movements to grab the box, slipping it off the dresser and setting it down in his lap as he rests upon the floor. His eyes are filled with stars as he picks up the baby bird, delicately craddling the smallest creature he'd ever seen. He decided he'd name it Shark because of it's bluish grey colour.
Stan spends hours just watching the little bird, trying his best to entertain it and teach it things.
Just as he's reading one of his favourite comics to the little bird, his dad barges into the room, his eyes quickly falling on the little bird that Stan holds. He demands to know where Stan got the disgusting little varmint, saying Stan needs to get rid of it.
Stan rushes to try and explain but it's to no avail, his father refuses to let him keep Shark, so Stan asks if his father will help him return Shark to the nest it had fallen from. His father says no, he tells Stan that once a human has touched a bird the other birds will never take it back, that Stan's little pet would be left to die in the wild, he calls Stan stupid for ever thinking that would work and instructs Stan to take the bird outside and dispose of it. Stan begs his father not to make him, he begs and cries and tries to shield the little bird in his hands from the outside world, but his father insists, Shark has to go.
His father drags him outside and hands him a stone, then tells him to be a man and finish what he'd started.
Stan would never forget that day, after that moment he decided he'd never care for something the same way again, he decided caring for something that much wasn't worth the effort, it would only ever break his heart. At least he still had Ford, at least once his brother was home he'd have arms to cry in.
hate when people are like "trust your gut! listen to your intuition!" like okay well my gut is telling me every person i lay eyes on is hunting me for sport and my intuition is saying i should find a secluded cave and live there forever so what do you suggest i do with that information
