Do you ever just read something you wrote and it’s actually really good and you are like:
There is nothing more infectious than the joy and love that the LGBTQ community exudes. I grew up with a gay brother whose every move I would emulate. I idolized him. Everything Frankie did, I would do. I can’t remember a difference between Frankie before he came out and Frankie after he came out. He’s always just been Frankie. Sexuality and gender were never topics my family and I were afraid to discuss. When Frankie came out my surprisingly unfazed (for his age) grandfather said “Congrats! Can we go to dinner now? I’m fuckin’ hungry.”
I was taught to do my makeup by queens in gay bars in New York City. I made my Broadway debut at 14 years old and did 8 shows a week but there was never a night I was too tired to run to a gay bar and do a quick Whitney cover before bed. My music being embraced and celebrated by the LGBTQ community is all I ever truly cared about when I thought about my career goals early on. There’s no award I could win or accolade I could receive that would fulfill me more than seeing a 6-foot queen with a 4-foot ponytail walk into my meet n greet and say “hey girl” or meeting a young queer person at Starbucks and them letting me know that my music has helped them become who they are. Literally nothing. Love is like music. It knows no boundaries and isn’t exclusive to any one gender, sexuality, race, religion, age or creed. It’s a freedom and a delicious luxury that all people should be able to sink into and enjoy every moment of. I am eternally indebted to and inspired by the LGBTQ community. I hope to create anthems for you that wrap you up with comfort and make you get your best life for as long as I live. Thank you for celebrating me the way I celebrate you.
I love you forever.

you’re doing a great job, seriously
guess what? the game even helps you on training your English skills, how amazing is that??? seriously, for free
don’t worry about missing some quick time events just because you misunderstood (or didn’t comprehend at all) a word, really, you’re managing to understand 99% so you’re a star!!!
just so we remember that even though we can miss some references sometimes, we should neither forget nor be afraid of being an active part of the fandom
you’re doing amazing, everyone

Hello. I hope you are doing well. I struggle with showing and not telling. Do you have any tips to get better at this? I apologize if you’ve already answered an ask like this.
Hi there, thanks so much for your ask! I don’t have much to say as a prologue-type thing, so let’s jump right into it!
“Nick was cold.”
This is telling. When you “tell”, you’re just giving your reader information. There’s not much room for the reader to deduce what’s happening or for you to include too many double meanings (if that’s your intention).
“Nick shivered as the strength of the wind grew, goosebumps appearing on his forearms.”
This is showing. Does it say Nick is cold? No. Could you have guessed that Nick is cold? Probably. When you “show”, you’re doing more than just giving your reader information; you’re giving them clues of sorts that lead them to the knowledge that, in this case, Nick is cold.
In many cases, “telling” is a good way to make your readers believe that you think they’re stupid. Showing helps you give readers the opportunity to discover for themselves, and it also helps them paint a picture in their mind’s eye.
Let’s look at the above example. Nick is cold, sure. But how does he react to being cold? How do we really know that he’s cold, as opposed to just being told? This is where showing comes in; it’s also a great way to include some imagery and for underwriters to boost their word counts.
Yes! Think, for example, of a time jump in your novel. If there’s something that you need to include but that doesn’t play a legitimate role in your story, this is where telling comes in. A week passed and nothing important happened? Write that.
For example, in my current project Smoke Shadows, I have the phrase: “Three days pass in a monotonous routine of…” Why? That’s all I need to write. Nothing important happened in these three days, but I needed my readers to know that three days passed.
It’s probably best to use telling to describe things like this, then jump right back into showing.
Here are some quick things to think of.
Do you ever state an emotion? Think of how you could let your readers know that your character is feeling this emotion rather than just telling them outright.
What about character traits? Sometimes those don’t need to be said outright, but instead you can pepper your writing with clues. Maybe a short character is always getting their hair ruffled or having people leaning their elbows on their shoulder.
Do your best to avoid forms of “be”. Unless it’s in dialogue or in a few other circumstances, the verb “be” is usually a sign of telling.
How are you describing the world around your character? Instead of saying they’re in a classroom, describe and give clues/description that would lead the reader to understand that the character is in a classroom.
Use your five senses! If you can really put yourself in the character’s point of view for this moment, then you can probably be sure that you’re showing instead of telling.
Read through your writing. Is there anything that seems abrupt, or that makes you feel like you’re just being given information? Unless it’s dialogue, you’re probably reading a bit of “telling”.
Remember that not everything needs to be shown! Trust your own judgment; if you’re telling but you believe that’s what’s best for your work, then don’t change it because of an advice post you’re reading on the internet.
So, that’s all I’ve got for today! If there’s anything else you want to see me write about in my next post, please don’t be afraid to drop a message in my ask! Until next time, much love! <333
look…………….. write as much shitty fic as you want. nobody can stop you. you’re learning constantly and it’s better to write hackneyed implausible ridiculousness than it is to not write at all out of fear of fucking up. you’re good
Toonami presents FLCL : Progressive, premiering June 2 at midnight. Think Smooth.
Well said. I have just been way more busy lately, but yeah, it is discouraging when I do manage to write something it only gets like a third of the notes now. I am so extremely appreciative of those people, even one note is amazing really, but it really makes you start to wonder if people are losing interest in your work. Or just do not like it.
I think you’re right, some of the content creators I knew almost dont post anything anymore. Those who do get less traffic unless they’re style is really good, on hype or if they’re content includes Kamilah (since she’s really popular). All I see in my dash are shitposts whether funny, edgy etc. and they’re the ones who gets most traffic. I still like those but its like 70% shitposts and 20% fanfics, 10% edits, fanarts, aesthetics etc. I just miss seeing more creative content in my dash.
This is very true. People stopped creating original content and started making more shitposts than ever, but that’s probably because of notes. Someone that doesn’t like a certain character, won’t like or rb a post, while a shitpost speaks to everyone. It’s sad to see so many great writers/editors/artists stop posting their stuff, bc of some notes. They seem to think that their stuff is unimportant, even though that’s what a fandom is about. When they get like 60 notes, while a not very funny post gets 1k in one night, its not very surprising that they feel discouraged.
I gotcha! Thank you for the reply!
How hard was it to set the tone and environment for your horror/thriller?
It wasn’t terribly difficult but it was also a nightmare I had one night so I kind of just channeled my fear from the nightmare into the work hahaha It did take a lot of edits though and watching lots of crime shows and horror movies definitely helped! I also tried to keep it fairly realistic cuz I feel like there’s nothing scarier than something happening in real life
one of the most heartbreaking parts of this story is this quote from one of the students:
“It’s been happening everywhere,” Paige said. “I always felt like eventually it would happen here. I wasn’t surprised, I was just scared.”
I wasn’t surprised, I was just scared.
In a 52-47 decision, the Senate has voted to save net neutrality.

Women have more power and agency in Shakespeare’s comedies than in his tragedies, and usually there are more of them with more speaking time, so I’m pretty sure what Shakespeare’s saying is “men ruin everything” because everyone fucking dies when men are in charge but when women are in charge you get married and live happily ever after
Okay, I’ve seen a huge angry response to that one line from this week’s TJ chapter. It goes as follows:
“If fanfiction is Beau’s outlet, I’m not sure I want to know what issues he’s working through.”
I laughed at this line, because it was CLEARLY a jab at the CONTENTS of Beau’s writing, NOT ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE WAS WRITING.
Unfortunately, it seems that everyone in this fandom missed the point, and the writers for PB are being attacked.
I’m going to address a few issues here.
1) “Why doesn’t PB ever promote fanfiction?!??”
They can’t. Promoting non-canon events causes fans to wonder what counts as legitimate and what doesn’t. It also brings up legal issues like copyright and fair use. Please stop badgering the writers about this.
2) WHY WOULD THEY SAY SOMETHING SO MEAN?!
Let’s dissect the statement:
“IF fanfiction is Beau’s OUTLET, then I don’t want to know what kind of ISSUES he’s working through.”
This statement clearly refers to the way Beau uses fanfiction, not just fanfiction as a whole. He clearly has deep-seated psychological problems that cause him to write strange and violent scenarios. THIS STATEMENT WAS NOT THROWING SHADE AT FANFICTION AUTHORS.
3) “PB writers hate us because we’re COMPETITION!!1!”
Ah, yes, I’m sure that the PB workers being paid to write for you are intimidated by your 38-part Drake Walker smut fanfiction. Get real, guys. Why would the PB authors see us as “competition?” I’ve had a fanfiction written about a novella I published, and I just felt flattered.
In conclusion: STOP acting as though everything PB does is a personal attack on you, guys.
Last December, the FCC voted to to kill net neutrality. If we do not take action, this will kill the free and open internet as we know it. The internet needs you—all of you—to make sure your voices are heard NOW.
We need all hands on deck for this one. It may be our last chance. If you’re feeling under-informed and overwhelmed about why net neutrality is so incredibly important, we have this handy guide just for you.
In mid-May, the Senate will vote on a resolution to overrule the FCC using the Congressional Review Act (CRA). We only need one more vote in the Senate to win. Write or call your Senators or Representatives. You can also text BATTLE to 384-387 to get more information on how to write to your reps. You can do this, Tumblr.
Join us and dozens of your other favorite companies like Etsy, Vimeo, Reddit, and GitHub to raise awareness with the Red Alert campaign being run by Battle for the Net. Just add this small widget to your Tumblr to let your followers know how they can contact their reps. It’s as easy as copying and pasting the small line of code right into the customize theme page on the web.
This is important. This matters. It’s up to you to help.
