drew has great difficulty saying i love you to anyone. she cant remember the last time she’s said it without dripping sarcasm.

but leo manages to say it so easily - it rolls off his tongue like warm honey. it’s sweet and genuine and it makes drew melt (not that she’d ever show him).

one day they’re hanging out in leo’s cabin alone and drew sucks up her pride and tries her best to tell him- *i love you* because she *does* and she needs him to know. *i love you. thank you for loving me. i love you. i love you.*

“…leo.”

“yeah?” leo turns to her from his place sitting on the floor with all of his mechanical magazines spread all around him. he’s all smiley and happy to hear his name on her voice and drew wants to cry.

she tries. *i love you. i love you.* she opens her mouth but the words get choked up in her throat like a bunch of thorns. she snaps her mouth shut in embarrassment and frowns and grips his bedsheets - she doesn’t understand *how* he’s able to just. say it.

leo stares at her, still smiley and oblivious, patiently waiting for what she has to say.

drew just shakes her head with a huff and slides off the bunk and wraps her arms around his neck, hiding her face flush red with embarrassment. leo lets out a little yelp of surprise, but doesn’t hesitate to reciprocate.

“tell me you love me.” she asks, uncharacteristically quietly.

leo holds her by her waist and presses an innocent kiss to her temple. “i love you.” and it’s the truth, as easily as someone can say one - leo loves her, loves her, loves her, and it makes drew’s heart swell.

“are you okay, though?” leo pulls away and places his hands on her shoulders to look at her.

“m’ okay,” drew swiftly responds, placing her hands over his. his hands are course and rough from all the handiwork he does, and drew lightly runs her fingers over the cracked, dry skin and the small indented scars. his hands ground her - she’d love to hold those warm, worn hands in hers forever, she realizes.

“are you sure? that was kinda sudden,” leo gently pushes. he gingerly moves his hands to cup her face, and drew sighs fondly and closes her eyes.

“i’m sure.”

leo kisses her nose and holds her figure to his chest.

“i love you, drew.” he repeats.

drew hugs him tighter. i love you, too.

Hey, quick question if you don't mind me asking but what are your thoughts on Drew Tanaka as a character and how she was portrayed in HOO?

canon drew...well. i rbed this post that says "drew was not written as a character but rather a human obstacle who needed to be feminine so the ‘not like other girls’ could defeat her," and i think that summarizes it perfectly. she exists exclusively to make piper look good, which is a real shame bc drew could've been interesting. as-is, drew is not only uninteresting, piper is also uninteresting by extension. it'd be like if nancy was one of percy's greatest obstacles in tlt.

more under the cut bc i'm incapable of keeping things short.

here, in her introduction, not only is drew, a feminine girl, vain, she's also weak and unintimidating, a triple whammy right away! she has no reason to be antagonistic towards piper here, they literally just got to camp. piper's crime right now is *checks notes* not looking cute and existing next to a "good-looking guy." oh, yeah, btw drew likes jason for being hot and powerful.

this triple whammy isn't even restricted to drew, it's the entire aphrodite cabin. they all giggle when drew flirts w jason and when piper is uncomfortable being "gorgeous" and are too scared and weak to stand up to drew. the two exceptions are a guy who got in trouble for saying piper "might not be so bad" and a girl who's afraid of ugly shoes. what an uninteresting take.

anyway, moments like this

are everywhere. now, let's remember for a moment that the aphrodite cabin (including drew!) fought in a war where they were outnumbered and won. but yeah, their biggest strength is their ability to "make an orange t-shirt glamorous" bc piper is the only one out of them who can *checks notes* uhhh run? charmspeak on a quest? carry a knife? she doesn't even know how to fight in tlh! she wasn't at camp for more than two days, she never had any fighting experience! the fact that she's being called tougher than ppl who fought in a war makes me grit my teeth. and thalia was there when it happened!

and it doesn't even makes sense bc we see aphrodite like this is ttc

(also sidenote: why is aphrodite's claiming so egregious and uncomfortable then? it's like rick has a moment of clarity and realizes he's being stupid and then immediately fucks it up again.)

this is interesting! and some of these kids (including drew!) would have met this aphrodite during the solstices. so portraying drew and the aphrodite cabin as a bunch of shallow kids obsessed w makeup that need to be saved by piper "not like other girls" mclean is so contrived. and constantly bringing up how piper's so much better than those shallow and weak aphrodite kids makes piper's entire character grating. rick brings up aneaus repeatedly throughout tlh, a son of venus/aphrodite that founded rome. why are we acting like aphrodite children are weak and stupid when we could be exploring literally anything else? like, you know, how they're traumatized?

and the thing is, he brings up silena! and it's done terribly. piper, who never knew silena and never will, lecturing drew, someone who knew silena and was betrayed by her, has always pissed me off. piper relating to silena bc she feels like she's in the same position? good, that's fine, i have no problem w this. but acting like she knew silena to ppl who actually did and then preaching abt what silena believed should've gotten her smacked (rick didn't even addressed the actual important part, which is how the other campers feel abt silena or how they feel abt surviving a war).

then when piper challenges drew, again, drew fought in a war while piper hasn't trained for a single day, why are we acting like piper could beat drew in a fight? piper can't even use charmspeak bc drew's resistant to it! that's the one advantage piper has! writing it like this comes off like piper is only strong as long as everyone else is weak. she's not rising to a challenge, her competitor is just so pathetic that she can overpower them. she didn't earn her strength. that's not good character development! so we're throwing two entire character arcs away for this!

what really gets me abt all of this is that piper didn't need to be a counselor. piper needed a place to belong. making drew nothing more than a stepping-stone was completely unnecessary, and making the aphrodite cabin weak and vain was redundant bc we already had an example w silena (and again, all the kids that fought in a war). as it is in canon, drew's character is a great example of some of rick's biggest writing flaws.

Sometimes I do wonder if atla fandom like the REAL Zuko at all because the nonsense i'm reading about him....... 😭

"He's a prodigy" nope that's AZULA, that's the point of these two characters and he's also the weakest bender of the gaang

"He's friendly, charismatic and charming" that's Aang 😭

"He's the perfect boyfriend" he's possessive and jealous, that's why Mai dumped his ass and she was RIGHT

Interesting.” with the most casually withering stare and everyone would be like uhh, I left my toaster on, goodbye

Piper and Drew NEEDED to throw hands with each other in The Lost Hero!!! But let's be honest, if they did then Piper wouldn't have won AND I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL

"I wonder if they are having fun?" Hestia questioned while hanging out with Poseidon, Demeter and Hades.

Suddenly the door opened. They saw a figure. Two people.

"Look,their back!!"Poseidon exclaimed as they rushed and ran to greet them. Suddenly Hestia stopped.

"Ow-" Hades muttered as Demeter and Poseidon bumped into him.

Then they realized why Hestia stopped.

"Why do you have a child?" Poseidon dumbfoundedly questioned.

Hera smiled and lovingly gazed at the infant in her arms.

Hestia thought the baby looked cute. "What's the baby's name?"

"Hephaestus" Hera whispered her joy evident on her face.

"WAIT, SO YOU GUYS WENT ON A COUPLE RETREAT ,AND CAME BACK WITH A CHILD!!?" Poseidon shouted.

"Shush there is a baby in your presence" Demeter then smacked Poseidon.

"ow-"Poseidon said as he rubbed his head.

Then baby Hephaestus suddenly giggled.

Demeter was awestruck. "Woah" "That was so cute!!"

Poseidon and Hades were glaring at each other before they both said "I'm going to be the favorite Uncle!!"

The attempt to win baby Hephaestus's favor soon started.

Poseidon made weird faces. Which was weird to say the least. Hades talked in a weird high pitch voice and gave baby Hephaestus some drachmas-as a bribe. Baby Hephaestus was not pleased and started crying.

"You made the babyyyyy cryyyy hades" Poseidon laughed and said in a singsong voice.

"shhhh it's ok" Hera said softly while rocking Hephaestus in her arms.

Zeus was looking at both his son and wife with lovestruck eyes.

"Hera you should sit down first" Hestia suggested.

So the 6 of them walked to and sat on their thrones.

Hephaestus continued crying as Hera attempted to calm him down. Then Hera remembered something "Hestia can you bring the stuffed toy I made?"

"Sure" Hestia then left to get it.

"He looks so cute. He looks like you" Zeus lovingly said.

Hera blushed. Then Poseidon sang " Zeus and Hera in love like two...... pigs" Hades softly laughed while two people were glaring at Poseidon. Unfortunately this 'song' made Hephaestus cry even more when Hestia walked in .

"I found the toy hammer" Hestia stated as she passed the toy hammer to Zeus.

Zeus waved the hammer in front of Hephaestus. He stopped crying but he looked rather confused.

Hera smiled at his confused face. Hephaestus then made motions to grab the hammer as Zeus brought it closer to him and then brought it further away. Repeatedly.

Hephaestus wasn't crying like Hera expected him to. Instead he was pouting and glaring at Zeus. Finally Zeus handed the toy hammer to Hephaestus.

Though he was just a newborn, Hephaestus seemed to be having fun by excitedly waving the toy hammer.

"With his excitement towards the hammer, he would make a good god of blacksmith" Zeus stated. At that time he wouldn't know how true his statement would be.

Hera rocked baby Hephaestus to sleep as he got more and more tired as he played with the hammer. "We should bring him to the nursery"

Zeus nodded and held Hephaestus as Hera got up from her throne. Then they walked to the nursery. And placed Hephaestus on his bed as Hera and Zeus gazed at him with love and adoration.

Hestia, Demeter, Hades and Poseidon smiled seeing their siblings happy and in love.

Working a little something

“Kronos is going to remake the world, we won’t be shunned anymore with him in charge” Nemesis’ eyes flashed with something between confidence and challenge “my children are always picked on, never the heroes. But you, Ethan, I sense that you will be the one to break that cycle. Join Kronos, let me guide you to greatness, I will help you bring justice to the world.” Ethan let the words set in, he hated camp, he hated Chiron, he felt like he stuck out here and his schedule almost never lined up with Drew’s in the years he’d been here. But what would it mean to leave, possibly forever? He might not fit in but at least he could see Drew when they had free time… then again she wasn’t treated fairly here either, she might have a cabin to belong to but everyone made fun of Aphrodite kids; maybe in this new world he could give her a place by his side where neither of them would be picked on.
