1. Kids! Don’t smoke! Do as I say and not as I do.
2. Because I intend to become a therapist, I want to maintain some distance between my artwork and my future career. If you know me in real life, I ask that you respect that.
3. This tumblr is flagged as NSFW (hello underage tumblr bloggers, I see you, please stop that) but I will be moving any sexually explicit artwork and/or artwork involving bodily harm to a separate blog. That said, I do a fair amount of artwork involving nude figures and body horror imagery. Nonsexual, non blood-and-guts nudes and body horror images WILL STAY ON THIS BLOG. I try to tag pretty comprehensively, but let me know if I miss something.

I hope to post something about the awesome time I had at Short Run, but it might be a little while because I have about three grad school assignments I’m working on. Also there’s an election tomorrow and I will either be drowning my sorrows or celebrating having dodged the Apocalypse.

"Soft Hands"
acrylic paint and stickers on mat board
12x14
I was looking at a bunch of pictures of 'creepy cute' fashion and I was struck by how... un-creepy all of it was. It was the usual conventionally attractive, cisgender, able-bodied women wearing pastel-color clothes, with the occasional skull or drippy goo thrown in to be 'creepy.' When I saw an image of an ectrodactylic hand, I genuinely found it to be incredibly cute. The skin looked so soft and there were so many different colors in it. I wanted to paint it to show how cute it looked, how anything can be cute, even the bodies and people that others may find creepy or disturbing. Why can't this hand be cute? Why can't disabled or transgender or fat people be cute? I can assure you, they can feel cute and they can desire to be seen as cute by others. tl;dr fuck your fascist cuteness standards.

So, previously I had all pages set to 90 lpi at 45 degrees, but suddenly CSP has decided it won't go higher than 85 lpi and the materials downloads that I'd gotten for higher lpi aren't working. I had to reconfigure the lpi and degree for the screentones, so these and subsequent pages may look slightly different.
I like CSP, but some of the functions remain a mystery to me. Either the available translated instructions/English guides aren’t detailed enough for me, or I’m trying to do things in such a weird, sideways approach, there aren’t instructions applicable to my problems.

Christina the Astonishing
13x14
acrylic
A gift for a therapist.
Christina the Astonishing was a woman in the 13th century who, around the age of 20, had a seizure so severe that friends and family thought she had died. During her funeral service, Christina levitated out of her grave, and up to the roof of the cathedral. When Christina came to land upon the church altar, she told the congregation that she had seen Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. In Heaven she asked for angels to return her to Earth so she might lead others to salvation.
Christina claimed she could sense the sins of others, and they pained her. To escape this, she levitated into the tops of high trees.
She is sometimes considered the patron saint of therapists, mental health workers, and the mentally ill.
