-though if you don't want her to do that, she totally gets it and wouldn't mind just indulging in you for the rest of the day, she'll play games with you, cuddle you, and if you'd really like to, hangout with the gang and everyone else :D

It's almost the end of my birthday, so I thought I should at least spoil myself with a drabble. Spoiler alert, it's about Xiao so click away if you're not interested. ^^

Xiao's the sweetest lovebug I've ever known my entire life. Hear me out; it's really just about being patient and taking time while going into the relationship, discussing what feels okay and what's not okay. Not that I'm saying other genshin men won't do this with you.. but I think Xiao would stand out the most, or maybe that's just me.

See, like... Throughout time, in the ENG version, you can totally tell his demeanor towards the traveler (and other people!) have changed drastically. He went from "stay back, or all that awaits you is regret," to appreciating everyone who wants to be beside him despite knowing how dangerous he is (due to karmic debt) in the Perilous Trail archon quest! His tone of voice is ridiculously softer, and while he's as stern as he is, he's frankly adorable and I live for it.

Xiao would be such a doting boyfriend, I think. If you've got any injuries, he'd cross his arms disapprovingly, tells you to sit down somewhere comfortable, and fetches you a medkit. Though yakshas have no need for any medication, you do. He's willing to learn how to heal mortal wounds if it's for you (the way he's willing to go over seas of people just to understand you).

I don't think he'd be a stranger to touch. He acts too similarly to that of a cat, though! I could say that it just depends on what his mood is. I don't think he's one to shy away from touch, but maybe if he doesn't feel like it, or thinks that holding him might harm you, he'd politely reject it for the time being. It doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy it nonetheless!!! I am a BIG fan of "Xiao loves forehead kisses" because there HAS to be a reason he's got a little diamond on his head <33

I personally think he LOVES handholding. It's one of the most emotionally intimate contacts aside from kissing. He wouldn't hold your hand firmly if you're just hanging out, but would definitely just link your fingers and be done with it. Pinkie links!!

What else makes him a sweetheart? He always expresses that he's ready to do just about anything if it's us. He takes his loyalty and honesty very seriously (see: contract with Morax, and the promise he made to Traveler). I also think that there's some beauty in the world he's never gotten to experience, so it'll be wonderful to see what he thinks of certain things! For example, the view of Dragonspine, the taste of other sweet, easy to eat dishes, festivals (yes, please! He doesn't need to go to crowds, though!!), and many more :D

“That one’s too simple, I doubt she’d like it.”

“That’s way different from her size!”

“She’s going to go ballistic if you give her a hot pink dress for her wedding day,” you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose. “Honestly, Ayato, I didn’t think you’d be this hopeless when you asked me to help pick out a wedding dress for your friend.”

“Oh? Do I seem to be an expert in this field?” he suggests, eyeing yet another atrocious dress. You contemplate blindfolding him because at this point, that might be a better option. Just as he reaches for it, you slap his hand away to which he laughs. “I really am grateful for your assistance, truly. As you can probably see.”

“Oh, I see alright-”

“Young master, I didn’t expect to see you here.”

An older man, noticeably crouched over from age approaches Ayato, offering a healthy smile despite his stature. “I haven’t seen you in ages–much less somewhere like here.”

“It’s nice to see you again,” Ayato replies, then turning to motion to you. “This is Matsukushi, an old friend of mine.”

“I worked under him for quite some time,” the old man explains, then glances at Ayato. “Though I work selling wedding dresses now, those days aren’t all too far behind me. It seems a lot has happened since I left…I didn’t realize you were engaged.”

Your jaw drops. For a few moments, you convince yourself that Ayato had gotten himself an engagement unbeknownst to you, but considering he prefers being a hermit within his work, you highly doubt such a situation. When you realize what the man is implying, you shake your head frantically. “No, no, that’s not-”

“Eventually,” he says before you finish. “But unfortunately, not for myself today. It’s for a friends’ fiancee.”

At this, you can feel yourself drop the several dresses that had been clutched in your arms, barely allowing Ayato to grab them in time. Was this a proposal? Or was he indicating the far future that had no use in pondering on now? Thoughts flood your head rapidly, making you spin. The old man however, seems to be unable to read the room and nods. “Ah, I see, my mistake. Well please do call me if you need any aid.”

And when he vanishes behind the counter, you’re left dumbfounded staring at Ayato. Sure, you’ve thought about it–daydreamed–about it countless times after the extensive period of time you’d spent with him, but never realized the weight of it in actuality. As your mind repeats his words on echo, its only snapped out of its trance when he places a cool hand on your head.

“Boring way to find out, right?” he smiles. “This one doesn’t count though, alright? When I propose, I’ll do it properly. And if you’re still unsure then, I’ll do it as much as you need me to and I’ll be as patient as you need me.”

You can’t help but go weak in the knees. As a result, you don’t hear him when he says that he does know how to pick dresses. Maybe he just wanted to spend time with you.

scaramouche

He knows anybody who’s heard of his name would never dream of him being in a relationship–much less any positive association with another human being. From his sharp tongue to his cold nature, it’s practically impossible to imagine him being close with someone else.

Yet he makes an exception for his minions. Not just any of them, no, he finds most of them unbearably stupid and bothersome. Specifically, his assistant.

You move to glance around the market. He follows you closely behind, dressed in a more civilian like attire much to his distaste, after relentless begging on your part. He sees no point in dressing so plainly when he knows most people in this foreign nation don’t even recognize his identity as a harbinger. Still, he silently observes you as you anxiously grip the bag of mora he’d given you.

“Here’s the list,” he says, tossing you a sheet of paper which you barely manage to grab. “I’m staying here. Be back in 15 minutes or I’m coming after you.”

“My lord, this list is awfully long to finish in 15 minutes.”

He knows, he wants to say. He would follow after you anyway. “Is there a problem?”

“Well, I guess we are kind of in a hurry after you blew up your office.” The harmless bite in your voice should’ve boiled his blood to no end, but he only finds himself rolling his eyes. At this, he frowns. Perhaps he was being too soft on you.

You flash a bright smile and wave as you disappear into the crowd of people. He halfheartedly shrugs in response and turns to find a decent corner of alley to stay around before your return, but his plans are interrupted much rudely.

“Hello dear. Yes, you.”

He scowls at the soft voice calling for him from another stall. Though he glares at the old woman perched in the flower shop, she only smiles, her skin wrinkling with old age. “Would you like a flower?”

“No,” he replies immediately, turning to leave, but she only lets out a soft laugh.

“I’m sure your partner over there would love it,” she says. “Our flowers are freshly picked you know. And spring’s in full bloom–you can’t get flowers any more beautiful than these.”

He wishes she’d shut up, considering that with a snap of his fingers he could order someone to pick up a thousand flowers from an entirely other region. Especially since the flowers don’t live up to his standards in the slightest. However, he quickly snaps out of his analyzation of the flowers, shaking his head. “We’re not like that. Don’t assume such a-”

“Ah, then you must already be married!” she blinks. “My apologies, I didn’t know.”

Even he’s almost at a loss of words, unsure if he should spit out foul words or simply walk away from the scene. But before he can even decide, she hands him a blue iris. “Here you are. A token of congratulations. These symbolize faith and hope.”

“We’re not-”

“My lord!” your voice tears his attention away. You bolt up to him, holding bags full of items that were certainly not on the list he’d given you. “I couldn’t help it, the groceries were 50% off, and we haven’t gone yet this week, have we? Well, if we have, we could give some to the others, and-”

“My, that looks quite heavy, are you alright?” the woman speaks up again and Scaramouche suppresses the urge to tape her mouth shut.

“Oh, yes, I’m alright, thank yo-”

“This one has what I need, right?” he snaps suddenly, taking one of the bags from you. You nod, and that’s all he needs before he’s walking off. “We’re leaving.”

“Ah, but we haven’t bought the other things on the list yet!”

He places the blue iris on top of the groceries filling your arms, close enough that you could smell its scent. “We’ll get it later. This place is full of mental commoners, and I’m seconds away from getting violent.”

You blink at the flower, opening your mouth to ask but he’s gone in an instant, disappearing into the crowd. You groan and turn to bid the woman farewell, and she laughs. “You two are such an adorable couple. You remind me of my old days.”

At this, your face heats. Unbeknownst to you, the slightest of embarrassment creeps onto his own face–not that he’d ever admit it.

thoma

“We’ll stay with you until your mommy and daddy come find you, okay?” Thoma offers to the crying child, holding out a bottle of water he carries in his pocket. You’ve always known that children love Thoma, but you didn’t know of its extent until the child calms down immediately, expression changing into a beam in mere minutes. You can’t blame the kid because even you yourself find yourself in a calmer state the second you’re in Thoma’s presence. How he does it, you’d like to know too.

Soon enough, you’re walking hand in hand with the little boy and Thoma, glancing around the city in hopes of finding a face similar to the boy’s. Unfortunately, you fail to find any despite Thoma asking around the townspeople and your constant searching. 

After a few hours, the three of you decide upon a break. When you see the child eyeing a specific food vendor, you smile and lead the way. “You’re hungry right? Some food might help all of us reenergize.”

There, the cook eyes your group up and down before turning back to his kitchen. “The family discount ended at lunch. You’ll have to pay full price if you want anything.”

You stare in shock (mostly of his rudeness) while Thoma visibly chokes on his own spit. Did he think you were married? With a child? The thought of it is bizarre, but you can’t help but think of how nice it would be. Thoma’s good at everything related to the house–cleaning, cooking, babysitting–he was practically a dream man for some people. But marriage has rarely crossed your mind so why did you feel so….This mere thought makes you look away.

The boy however, seems unfazed as he simply sits himself on one of the stools, happily swinging his legs. Seeing that it’s not the time to address the mistake, you continue to order dishes, ignoring the heat flooding your face.

Finally, when the boy’s mother comes looking for him, you pass him off happily and wave as they disappear down the street. It’s nearly sunset now as you feel Thoma take your hand. “Shall we get home, then?”

The walk back home is silent. Usually, the two of you indulge in a comfortable silence but this one has a cloud of unsaid words swirling around the two of you, leaving you obsessing over your own wishes. Eventually the silence becomes so suffocating that he clears his throat.

“Agh, now I feel bad…” he mumbles, his blond hair falling over his eyes.

You lift your head. “Huh? About what?”

“I think it made you uncomfortable,” he clarifies, sheepishly meeting your eyes. “But I was really happy when he called us a family.”

Your eyes grow wide.

He swipes at his red tinted cheeks and shakes his head. “Maybe I got ahead of myself, or something like that. If you’re not ready for it–if you’re never ready for that, I would never be upset at you. But at the same time, it would be a dream too–to be able to call myself your husband. Sorry, I naturally thought that you’d like it too and I-”

“I do!” you nearly yell, making him jump. “I do. Like it. A lot. I’d like to call you my spouse.”

The two of you stare at one another in surprise before you both laugh. His fingers tighten around yours, making your chest feel as if it’s about to explode with butterflies. It doesn’t take much to guess that he feels the same.

“Let’s talk more about this later, when we get home. I still have to make dinner, you know.”

a/n: There aren't too many things known about Shinobu's personality yet, so I'm sure once she actually releases we will be able to look back to this fic and say "kinda ooc, ngl", but until then I'll have to use my gut feeling.

This is, of course, my first time writing for either of these two characters, so I'm sorry if I'm making a few mistakes when it comes to their personalities, but I think it should be fine

Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Yelan

Yelan knew about you long before you had even met her, she had to make sure that the new hire at the Liyue Qixing didn’t have any ill intentions after all, but once the two of you finally met, you instantly got along with each other, her relaxed and easy going attitude a welcome change from the stress inducing one’s your bosses seemed to have around them all the time. While your friendly and open attitude, that made even strangers reveal small secrets to you from time to time, being too busy enjoying their drinks to care, coupled with your willingness to tell Yelan about them if asked, made hanging out with you both a nice way to procrastinate while getting enough information to technically be considered part of her job.

Even after the two of you had become, what you would consider, good friends, there were still a lot of things you knew she wouldn’t tell you about, most of them about her job. You had asked once about why exactly she needed information about a citizen of Liyue, assuming of course that her job required her to do so, she made it very clear that, since it was part of her job, she wouldn’t tell you. You completely understood, never asking about such things again, while simply enjoying spending time with her. But there were things you knew about her that most others, who even knew about the existence of a woman called “Yelan”, wouldn’t even dream about knowing.

You had finally managed to get a few days off, deciding that it would be a great opportunity to visit Yelan, and while her house laid well outside of the city, you eventually arrived in front of her door, knocking on it, only to have to wait much longer than you expected before it finally opened, revealing your friend giving you her usual smile.

“Well, what a surprising visit you decided to pay me”, she greeted you, the thought of how you had managed to surprise the usually so informed Yelan, making you smile, only for you to remember what an unhealthy sleep schedule she seemed to have whenever she didn’t necessarily have work to do.

“Did I awaken you from your sleep?”, you asked teasingly, only for her to shoot back immediately in a similar playful matter.

“That’s confidential, I could tell you, but sadly wouldn’t be allowed to keep you alive afterwards”, after shooting you another smile, she finally let you inside, and it wasn’t long before the two of you started playing a game of dice against each other. “I could use this chance to win a few Mora from you, but how about we spice it up a bit? The winner gets to ask the looser anything”, she offered, causing you to give her a look of suspicion. When she said “anything”, did she truly mean it? Probably not really, since you doubted that she would tell you anything about her work even if you won, not that you wanted to know anyway. But you decided not to voice your doubts, instead giving her a nod.

Well, it wasn’t like you even had to think about what to ask her, since no matter how much luck you seemed to have, Yelan would always top you, and while her questions started out standard, asking you about things like work, they grew more and more personal with each question.

“What’s your taste in women?”, she eventually asked with as straight of a face as ever, and while the last question had already seemed a bit too personal for your taste, this one made your heartbeat faster than usual whenever you thought about what would come next.

“Well, I don’t really have one… I’m not that picky, if they are entertaining to hang out with, I guess”, you answered truthfully, well not completely, since there was someone you had eyes for.

“Then what about me?”, she asked, topping all her previous questions while making your face as red as the Jueyun chillies she loved to eat.

“T-that’s more than one question”, you stuttered out, frantically trying to buy your brain enough time to figure out any reasons she might have said something like that, baring the obvious of course, since that was too good to be true.

“Of course, how silly of me”, she stated, only to immediately get the highest possible score, making it unnecessary for you to even try and beat it. “Well, what about me?”, she stated once more, leaning forwards before putting her head in her hands while resting her arms on the table.

After seeing you fail to form a coherent sentence more than once, she leaned back before speaking again. “Fine, let me a different question”, when you heard her words, you finally managed to calm your nerves down a bit, only for all your blood to shoot into your head once again immediately afterwards.

“I like you as more than just a friend, do you feel the same?”, before you even had the chance to think about it, your body immediately went into autopilot, nodding enthusiastically without delay, causing the woman in front of you to smile at you once again.

Kuki Shinobu

You had known Shinobu for a very long time, having been friends with her long before she and her family got on rather… difficult terms. But when she had gone to study in Liyue for a few years, the two of you lost contact, only for her to come back and become part of the Arataki-gang, something you couldn’t help but find odd. Sure, you hadn’t seen her for years, but her joining that group of rather unusual individuals, wasn’t something you had ever expected from her.

But when the two of you met again, you somewhat rekindled your old friendship. Sure, the two of you had changed a lot, and instead of wearing the shrine maiden clothes you had expected an adult Shinobu to wear, she had found a different way to dress, most notably wearing a mask to hide her face even though you had never thought that there was a need for her to do so, but at the core you were still the same people as back then.

You couldn’t pinpoint exactly when, but at some point in your friendship Shinobu had stopped acting entirely professional around you, acting far more friendly than before. It may have been far from the friendliness others, like maybe that Naganohara girl, seemed to offer, but still a big enough change for you to notice, not that you had anything against it, since you were just happy to have your old friend back. And while she still insisted on wearing her mask most of the time, she wouldn’t seem as embarrassed as the first time you accidentally caught her taking it off.

You had plucked a few lavender melons since you seemed to remember Shinobu having told you about how they tasted better when roasted and decided to pay her a visit to ask for a few tips, only to encounter what seemed to be the rest of the “Arataki-gang”, but without their name giving leader.

“Hey, I’m sorry to-”, you looked at what they were doing, only to find them stand around two beetles fighting each other, leaving you with more questions than answers, but decided to continue anyway “…interrupt you, but do you know where I can find Shinobu?”, you asked, causing all of them to immediately turn their heads around.

“You’re looking for Kuki Shinobu? Why? Do you need something from her?”, one of them immediately started questioning you, approaching you while making you feel as if you were in some sort of trouble, like you had broken an unspoken rule, but before you could continue, the man in front of you suddenly had a look of realisation on his face. “Oh, you’re her friend! The one she always spends time with after work”, he almost shouted, catching the attention of the rest, making them gather around you as well.

What followed was them bombarding you with one question after another, not leaving you any time to answer any of them, but seemingly not even minding. You had long lost the ability to even register any of their questions, since they would be interrupted in the middle of it, causing you to have to hear a completely new one, that was, until you heard a question that stood out.

“Are the two of you a couple? You must be, you always hang out with each other, and she even mentioned you a couple of times”, all other members fell silent, as all their gazes were focussed on you, awaiting your answer.

“She was talking about m-”, before you had the chance to finish your sentence, another voice rang out, this one clearly being Shinobu’s, but instead of sounding professional like usual, or relaxed like when you spent time together, this time it was filled with rage.

“You have ten seconds, whoever is in my line of sight once they are over won’t live to regret it”, in an instant, the mass of men around you were gone, all of them scattering into different directions, leaving you and Shinobu alone, she finally having calmed down somewhat. “I hate those idiots sometimes”, she stated bitterly before letting out a big sigh, her choice of words somewhat surprising you.

“They seemed… friendly”, you awkwardly stated, trying to make her forget what had just happened, but instead earning yourself a nervous stare from her, only to hear her sigh once more.

“You heard what they said, so I guess there’s no need to deny it. I like you, and I hope you do the same, do you want to go out with me?”, her confession caught you even more off-guard, leaving you frozen in place for a couple seconds before finally mustering enough working braincells together to answer.
