If you enjoy my posts and can afford it, I would greatly appreciate it if you donated to my new ko-fi page! Each of these posts represents multiple hours of unpaid labor. I love writing for this blog, but Iâm also an underpaid 20-something trying to stay afloat. Iâve made this master post of every essay Iâve written for this blog as a way to show my appreciation in advance of any support. If you donate, to further show my gratitude and appreciation, Iâll take requests for essay topics in the âmessages of support.âÂ
If you canât afford to donate via ko-fi, another great way to show your support is simply by reblogging posts that you find useful and helping my blog reach new writers.Â
Thanks so much!Â

This is by no means an effort to mass-educate, or make an âall-inclusiveâ list (that doesnât exist, btw). Itâs me sharing with other nonwhite teens things that have helped me understand myself and show that you are able to reconnect with and embrace yourself. In summary, this is a list of stories by POC who have learned to love themselves and their backgrounds.
Iâve decided Damian doesnât play the violin based on things like observation and information about period instruments.
Because it looks like that one appearance of a âviolinâ in his possession is actually a viol, or viola da gamba! They were incredibly popular during the Renaissance, though they faded into obscurity and instead the violin family ended up being more well-known (mostly because they were naturally louder and better suited to concerts than viols, which were meant mostly for playing at home for your family and friends). The only exception is the double bass, which is actually a member of the viol family! and still a popular instrument!
Generally, you would never play one viol alone â youâd play one of several different sizes of viol together, making up what was called a âconsortâ of viols. It looks like Damianâs is a tenor viol, which was the most popular size, and fit tidily in the lap!
Anyway the idea of Damian playing an instrument thatâs designed to be played with others during a time in his life when he simultaneously craved acceptance and love and rejected any help seems very fitting and appropriate to me ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ

Iâm very excited to reveal the prompts for 12 Days of Winter Whumperland!
As usual, any form of creation - art, writing, gifsets, fandom, oc, etc â is welcome.
The prompts are meant as jumping-off points and are completely open to interpretation. You can take inspiration from one or more of each dayâs prompts, and be as literal or figurative as you like!
The event will run from December 12 - December 23.
The event tag will be #AMOW Winter Whumperland for the main tag; the daily tags will be #12wwday.1, #12wwday.2, etc. I will check the main and daily tags each day for the duration of the event.
You can also mention @amonthofwhumpâ in your post to have your creations reblogged to this page; I will not check the tags after the event ends but if you post after the 23rd and mention this blog I will see it!
A text list of the prompts is below the cut. Happy Winter Whumperland, everyone!

Her character is more than just Raâs daughter, and just because she was raised by him doesnt mean she shares the same morals as him.
probably what I love most about young justice is how it perfectly conveys how fucking extra the bats are. like yeah that guy has gills and that guyâs a clone and sheâs from fucking mars but yâknow whoâs an actual trip? yâknow whoâs an absolute goddamn nightmare?
Robin.
heâs not an alien. he doesnât have any meta abilities. by all accounts he is a 13 year old child except his dad is fucking batman and he has all this custom built tech and crazy acrobatic skills and sometimes he just fucking vanishes without a word. like none of the team could even tell you what colour his eyes are and that is just the way he likes it.
the fucking bats man

- bruce wayne called superman to comfort dick grayson, who had just been fired as robin
- ace the bathound barked for superman to save batman from a death trap
- bruce wayne called superman to ask why, precisely, dick grayson was now superhero-ing under a kryptonian name
- jason todd called superman to save batman from a death trap
- batman called superman to save jason todd from a death trap. superman was in a different solar system. he didnât hear his name.
- barbara gordon called superman to help subdue supergirl, who was mind-controlled at the time
- dick grayson, age 19, called superman to open a jam jar (raspberry)
- tim drake called superman to save batman from a death trap
- stephanie brown called superman to see if she could

- dick grayson, age 24, called superman to open a jam jar (fig)
- dick grayson called superman to ask him why he hadnât saved his father
- damian wayne called superman to save batman (dick grayson) from a death trap
- cassandra cain called superman so he could interpret her signs for a particularly skeevy alleyway ruffian. he refused to interpret some of the signs.
- batman called superman to tell him to get lois some damn flowers already so she would stop texting him
- a failsafe device made by barbara gordon and tim drake automatically called superman to save batman from a death trap
- duke thomas called superman because he was dared to and he didnât think it would work (it did)
- dick grayson, age 26, called superman to open a jam jar (apricot)
- damian wayne called superman to tell superboy (jon kent) to take his earbuds out
- selina kyle called superman to save a kitten from a tree
- dick grayson, age 28, called superman to save batman from a jam jar (giant, acid-filled)
you know sometimes i do genuinely forget that damian is a highly trained child soldier/assassin and he was trained extensively in combat and was raised to be fearless, cold, & calculating... like sometimes he IS a bit psychopathic but heâs also just analyzing every single fucking detail about the person heâs up against and his surroundings... not only is he highly tactically trained but heâs also INSANELY intelligent & so powerful... like heâs a KID! sometimes he has a raging temper and other times heâs so disarmingly calm and sure of himself... that reads as something menacing & chilling and itâs so fucking interesting! combat that w his genuine empathy and caringness and how being a robin changed him too like. this kid will leave culprits alive and take innocents to safety (like saving cleo the cat and taking cleo somewhere safe) so youâre reminded, like a punch in the gut, that while heâs unbelievably capable, heâs also just a little BOY. heâs a CHILD

Youâre Dick Grayson.Â
Youâre tortured, your identity is revealed to the world, and then youâre killed. Right after that, everyone you care about cries over you because they think youâre dead. Then your dad beats you up and tells you that you have to go undercover to protect the people you love. You know that people are going to be mad at you for it, and youâre not sure theyâre going to understand why youâre doing this thing you really donât want to do.Â
You tell your dad that your relationship with him will never be the same because of this. Youâll never be âhis boyâ again. Your dad tells you itâs a sacrifice heâs willing to make. It hurts you almost as much as the next punch does.Â
So you go do your mission. Itâs hard because you donât have your usual support system to help you get through it. All you have is a little device that you sometimes call your dad on, and then one day you donât even have that because your dad stops answering, and you donât know why. You ask him, no, you beg him to let you come back home because you did what you came there to do, and you donât know what youâre supposed to do next, but more than anything, you just want to come home.Â
To make matters worse, youâre confronted by the man who murdered you, and he happily reminds you of this all while trying to take kryptonite from you. He also shows you that the technology youâre using while undercover can control your body. Now you know you canât trust anybody, including yourself.Â
You decide, fuck it, and go back home because youâre sick of this undercover shit. More importantly, you donât know if your dad is dead or if something bad happened that forced him to abandon you.Â
When you get home, you find out that your dad has amnesia and doesnât remember you. Your brothers spit accusing words at you for lying to them even though your dad is the one who forced your hand on the issue. One of them punches you because heâs so mad at you for pretending to be dead. You donât know how to explain to either of them that you really did die. At this point, youâre not sure they would even care.Â
You go to see one of your best friends next, and when you try to explain things to her, she tells you youâre a disappointment. She doesnât understand how hard you fought your dad to avoid doing all of this in the first place. She doesnât understand that people, including your dad, took advantage of you when you were physically, mentally, and emotionally fragile. You know she doesnât know all of this, but it doesnât matter.Â
It still hurts.Â
And then⌠and then thereâs your youngest kid brother. Your Robin. Your heart stops when you see him because what? Heâs alive? Youâre frozen in shock, but your Robin isnât. He flips into your arms and, suddenly, youâre hugging him. Heâs warm and alive, and thereâs no mistaking that this is your Robin. This is your kid. And your kid isnât like the others. Heâs just as thrilled to see you as you are to see him. You hug him hard enough to hurt, and your cheek is pressed tightly against his. Itâs everything you wanted, and you donât think anything can beat this feeling.Â
Youâre proven wrong when your kids says, âI missed you,â in a voice thatâs incredibly sincere and full of pure, unadulterated happiness.Â
I love you, you think while closing your eyes and gripping him even tighter.Â
What comes out of your mouth is, âI know, kiddo. Me too. Me too.â
one of my favorite things is how the batboys are all close with essentially invincible aliens but the second they see the supers theyâre just instinctively like hey how about i uhhhh jump in the line of danger for you anyways :)

In Batman & Robin 18, while going through Damianâs things, Bruce finds this note.
The idea of Clark sending Damian a list of movies he might find inspiring just rips my heart out.
The movies include titles about adolescent rebellion (On the Waterfront, Rebel Without a Cause), kids overcoming major odds to become successful and heroic (My Left Foot, The Miracle Worker), movies about justice, compassion, and heroism (To Kill a Mockingbird, China Syndrome, Gorillas in the Mist, Cool Hand Luke, Lawrence of Arabia). Â These are tough, challenging movies, not patronizing kiddie fare.
There was pretty much no hint before that Clark had the kind of relationship with Damian that would prompt a note like this (they met once in canon that I know of)âŚI wish I knew the story behind this.
(This was a beautiful issue by Tomasi and Gleason, by the way).
i looked up batmanâs height and it turns out that he is climbable
