A guide on my process for colouring like in the Arcana which I developed through studying the style.
Now, this is just for sprites or for neutral lighting. In the case of most memories/CGs, you have more interesting colours to use, but the process is identical. There are just extra steps.
Using my favourite memories for each character as examples (hopefully, you can tell which ones) you can see this process. All of this happens on layers above the base drawing.
Usually, you set a colour-filled layer to the setting “multiply” over the entire drawing, then using a “screen”, “add”, or “hard light” layer, you add the lighting. Depending on the intensity of the lighting, the outline will be coloured to be lighter.
The shading colour rarely changes, aside from slight hue changes.
Misc advice/tips/tricks below. I may update it depending on if I get further questions.

No one asked but here’s a brief tutorial on digital underpainting and how it can add some extra flavor to your art!
(I got asked this a couple times so just to clarify: I used “overlay” in the second slide… but the rest of these examples are JUST painted on, no effects! Try playing with the opacity on your pencil/water/brush tool to allow the base color to show through!)
So I was looking out my window and saw two birds and the idea of making a list of symbolism associated with types of birds came to mind. My mom always taught me if you see an animal -especially if they are doing something out of the ordinary- you should take it as an omen. So here’s a list of some basic birds, some of the associations are personal but I hope you like it!
Blue Jay-the truth will be revealed, high energy, playfulness, clarity and communication.
Cardinal-hope, joy, good health, some associate them with angels or deceased love ones, passion and warmth.
Crow-often associated with magic and witches, transformation, power, intelligence and mystery.
Duck-friendships, new friends, happiness, good fortune and protect against negative energies “water off a ducks back” :)
Dove-peace, harmony, joy, love, might be telling you to break away from a toxic situation, think positive, often associated with Aphrodite or Jesus or Angels
Eagle-power, leadership, freedom, adventure, breaking free.
Hawk- common as spirit guides, courage, protection, and awareness.
Hummingbird- I adore hummingbirds and often associate them with faeries. Creativity, joy, love and beauty. Can be a sign that you are moving too fast in life and need to take a break.
Magpie-Magpies represent duality because seeing them can be really good or really bad, I know it’s confusing :/ Seeing a magpie can be a good luck omen and new oppurtunities will appear. They also represent illusion and trickery, maybe someone is being a two-faced friend to you.
Owl- wisdom, associated with the goddess Athena, intuition, spiritual exploration, change, observation and intelligence.
Raven- associated with the nordic god Odin, mystery, magic, fae magic, knowledge, mischieve, and can be seen as a death omen (but can also mean change)
Robin- luck, prosperity, good things will happen, joy and your hard work will soon be rewarded.
Sparrow- associated with Aphrodite, new love and relationships, fertility, team work, time of productivity and stop procrastinating.
Stork-long life, prosperity, fertility, new life, wisdom, take time to relax, motherhood and luck.
Swan- also associated with Aphrodite and Apollo, gracefulness, beauty, music, poetry, creativity, loyalty, and long lasting relationships.
Vulture-death, cleaning up other people’s messes, renewal, patient, use your resources and be perceptive.
Woodpecker- hard work, take advantage of new oppurtunities, attention, progress and determination.
Tip! If you are repeatedly seeing a certain animal or have a strong liking to an animal it could be a way a spirit guide is trying to get your attention (or that animal is just really common in your area lol )
Since I was asked how I do my stained glass look, I’m making this little tutorial to give y'all some pointers, so you too can make art that looks like this:
Broken up into two parts: Lineart and Coloring
Part two will follow soon!

I would like to make a new bunch of tutorials… I wish I could carry out my intention. Incidentally, It’s going to be “How to draw poses by using gesture drawing method ”,
can you do a tutorial on how you color your artwork? it's so pretty!! 😍🤩
this is not the best and only way to color but personally i think it’s easy and quite effective for beginner artists who are practicing setting the mood for an artwork or laying out ground work for more detailed illustrations
I’m using Clip Studio Paint for this drawing.
Step 1: The base color
Use magic wand and bucket tool to lay out the base color, you can use different layers for each colors to be more precise, and it’s easier to change the colors later on. I use mainly warm tones for my base color because i prefer the look of it. Step 2: Coloring the lineart
Use a clipping layer above the lineart layer to do this step (there are other ways of course, you can search for them online) Color the lines that isn’t intersected with the background, the inner lines. Especially the skin part to reduce stiffness of the lineart, also help adding shadows.
I usually draw the darkest shadow areas with my lineart so i can color them at the same time.
Step 3: Adding shadow
Group the lineart + base color into 1 big group. Add a clipping layer above that group. Switch the layer mode to “Multiply”. Add the shadow area using a desaturated/grayish hue of your choice to set the mood for the drawing.
Example:
If the mood you want is more broody, use more cool tones (blue, purple,..)
If the mood is more festive or happy, use more warm tones
A drawing should consists both cool AND warm tones, other wise it would look dull. The second example has too much warm tones because the base color is already warm.
Step 4: Add filter layers/adjustment layers
This is where the magic happens. Enhance your art work by adding more Multiply and Overlay layers, set the mood as you like it to look, balancing the tones, play around. I wanted this particular drawing to have an overall cold feeling to it, so I added a blue multiply layer
Adding light with a beige overlay layer, using the airbrush with low opacity. This also help creating contrast between the shadow and light areas
But wait,,, it looks,,,,,, it looks too sad!! they are comforting each other after a terrible situation! Adam is not dead! I need another warm multiply layer!
There, it’s now finished. Quick tip: If your colors are looking off/doesn’t go well with each other, group everything and add a beige multiply layer on top! It would look better instantly! Learning color theory, color harmony also helps A LOT!! find tutorials and study from the masters! Good luck with your art, Anon!

do you have any tips for drawing a nose when the face is front facing?
This was really fast but I hope this helps:
Depending on the shape of the nose, the way you chose to render the contour lines will change. I used Rose, Quazky, and Glasner as examples in the lower right corner there. For TH, I generally don’t render the bottom of the nose with a line but with a shadow for simplicity’s sake. I hope that makes sense.
PS - I made a new brush for rendering technical drawings and I love it. *A*
So it’s been a hot minute since i’ve posted any tutorials on here, and one of my gifs featuring a static texture recently got a nice amount of attention on twitter, so i thought i’d post a tutorial on how to make an effect like this
in blender (blender 2.7 to be exact, i haven’t updated yet because i’m an old senior citizen set in their ways). This one’s super simple, it literally takes about 5 seconds, so let’s get started.
