Brooklyn nine nine does this well with Jake and Gina
I’m begging, just ONCE can we have the boy and girl childhood best friend be genuinely happy for the other when one of them finds a significant other?? I’m so sick of these jealousy arcs and romantic crises that always involve being indecisive about who to choose like GOD just have a boy and girl be friends unquestioningly PLEASE.
I’ve seen some people touch on this, because like what was that season, but it literally makes no sense that Lila’s kids and Claire can exist in the one “true” timeline without causing a paradox, like the whole plot of season 3 is that the umbrellas are in a timeline where their moms died before they were born and it caused a kugleblitz(?), we have a full lecture about the implications of the grandfather paradox, how does these kids existing in a timeline that their parents never existed in not create another kugleblitz??? Like you made these rules TUA writers?? How can you just ignore like the biggest time travel rule that YOU set???

You gotta love the range amongst the love interests of Jane Austen books. Mr. Darcy is just constantly going "i dont want to talk to her, she's so cool, she is right i need to change 👉👈", and Mr. Knightley is right here going "you spoiled little brat i want you carnally"
Ok so I just rewatched Kiki's Delivery Service the other day and I particular thought occurred to me. This post is a positive rant and isn't articulate in any way so bare with me, but I love the fact that Kiki has a delivery service and it's just that, a delivery service
The story is about having passion and not falling for perfectionism and burnout, but stories like this are almost always reserved to people with Big and Interesting Jobs(TM) where they need to overcome multiple hurdles to make their masterpiece and maybe learn something along the way because sure, Kiki's Delivery Service took all of that and put it wholeheartedly into something usually looked at as a non-sexy job
The other two witches we see in the film: her mom a doctor, and the other little witch a fortune teller, and yet the film doesn't even entertain the idea of her underselling herself or not using her witchy powers for something "more important". She's bringing people little joys when delivering messages and gifts, and sure maybe those packages are just boring business deliveries sometimes but they still matter
what i'm trying to say is Kiki's Delivery Service gave us a story often reserved to sexy and cool jobs to something we'd usually deem mundane or boring and I love that it doesn't even treat it as such. There's no pushback to the nature of the work Kiki chooses to do at all!
consuming mass amounts of media related to my hyperfixation isnt enough i need to eat it
Dr Ignoreitandhopeitgoesaway does make some good points
girls really are expected to concentrate and work on a laptop when it is connected to the internet and all the shiny little images and videos that are always luring them in are right there....
people with medical issues are not “putting a strain on the medical system”. that’s what the medical system is for. yes this includes people with substance use related medical issues and other people considered “undeserving” of help
i think (while on the topic of taylor swift and criticism towards her), if we're to look a little closer to what makes taylor swift so successful, especially as someone who used to be an avid fan back in her early teens (i regret nothing), is her mediocrity. and i mean this in the nicest way possible: she's good, but not good enough to threaten an industry. she's outspoken, but only when it looks good on her. she's conveniently white, able-bodied and conventionally beautiful enough to claim all the privileges while sitting on a throne of female empowerment - without really doing anything to threaten the status quo or promote said empowerment.
because threatening the status quo would inevitably mean addressing her own power and how she, as a billionaire, benefits so greatly from white feminism. it's a parade of rainbows and confetti until she has to speak up. until she has to do something that might cause controversy, that might make her lose audience, fans, or $$$.
on the topic of her talents and all - it's the same thing. she has the kind of content that hits you strong enough for you to give her the credit for some quite good lyrics (re: all too well, the entirety of folklore and evermore), but it's all still digestible. it's palatable. it does not question, it doesn't bring any issues or topics we haven't seen before in art or music. it makes you feel, but it doesn't build anything up.
and dare i say, the people who are doing it, who are bringing some sort of revolution and/or a new perspective into music are the exact types of people she tends to have beef or an issue with. she cannot perceive any threats in the slightest, especially from other female artists. how many of them has she truly collaborated with in a way where she wasn't the main event? think about it. just think about it, for once.
