I’m not one of those nihilistic “there’s NOTHING us consumers can do!!!” people nor am I one of those anti-vegan bacon cultists but I’m seeing a lot of discourse about this and people on both sides need to be aware of something:
The beef industry is only the leader in Amazon deforestation because it is the highest bidder right now. For half a decade that was exceeded by soy production and in Indonesia the biggest rainforest killer is palm oil. Rainforest land that isn’t sold directly for some kind of food production gets cut down anyway because they still sell the timber and then the land is auctioned away to whoever will take it, even if it’s practically pennies, because the people holding that land have made a profit either way and a corporation that buys it for cheap is almost guaranteed to get some kind of use out of it or find someone else who wants it. Changing your diet will do absolutely nothing. Neither will boycotting paper and wood products. If they couldn’t even give the logs away they would raze the land and, again, just sell it for the corporate equivalent of a nickel. Protecting the land, period, is the only thing that makes a difference. The only thing. THE ONLY thing. ONE THING.
PLEASE help Waffaa and her children get safely out of Gaza. They're nearly halfway to their goal. They've had a lot of recent family deaths. Reblogs are greatly appreciated and ESPECIALLY donations

they'll fund a genocide and let their poor regions be destroyed. don't fucking forgive them for that.
my hometown is completely gone from what pictures i can find of it, i have not heard from my family (including aunts, uncles, parents, one sibling, and a grandparent), and the infrastructure in the mountain communities is wiped out. i cannot stress how catastrophic this is, or how difficult it will be for these communities to build back. i am angry, and scared, and heartbroken by everything that's happened.
and our government is spending it's money to fund a genocide.
free palestine, and don't be complicit. realize that this is not something happening that doesn't affect you--although it shouldn't take this to care about the deaths of thousands of people anyway.
Cornelis le Mair (Dutch, *1944).
Me and My family have been trapped in the genocide for the last year.
Living in Gaza is a daily struggle for survival. It's not just the challenge of waking up each day wondering whether my family and I will make it through another round of airstrikes, but the deeper worry of whether we will ever have a future beyond this war zone.
As a young person, Education is my greatest hope-a way to rise above the circumstances I was born into, to build a life of purpose, and to help my family escape the horrors of ongoing violence and potential genocide.
But here, in Gaza, education feels like a dream slipping further away each day.
The schools and universities have all been destroyed, and I fear staying here will mean losing the chance for an education as well as the lives of those I love.
I want to raise funds to escape this cycle of despair and pursue an education abroad, where I can study in peace, grow, and contribute to a better world. I dream of learning in a place where I don't have to worry if my school will be bombed or if I will
make it home safely.
With your support, I can relocate with my family to a place where we are no longer seen as targets but as people with hopes, dreams, and the potential to contribute
meaningfully to society.
This fundraiser is not just for my education; it's a lifeline for my family and me. I want to study fields like international relations or humanitarian work, so I can return one day and help others in situations like mine, advocating for peace and justice in a region torn apart by violence.
Please help me break free from this cycle of violence. Your support can make all the difference-giving me the opportunity to survive, to learn, and to fight for a future that so many of us here are desperately trying to grasp.
Thank you for your time and generosity.
