I had to speak French once (like, it was a test, it actually had to be French, not whatever works) and I had to really resist the temptation of saying “hombre” (spanish for man) instead of “homme” (french for man) because my brain somehow decided that “hombre” sounded, like, more beautiful? more natural? more suitable? idk. I wasn’t even learning Spanish back then yet.
Also, during the same test I think I almost said (or even actually said, I don’t remember) a really tired “Yeah…” instead of what should’ve been a really tired “Ouais…” (same thing but in French). Since English is also a foreign language to me, this is yet another example of what OP’s describing.
What they don’t tell you about speaking multiple languages is that your brain does not in fact have a box labeled Spanish and another one labeled German. Instead it has a box labeled “Not English” and sometimes when you’re talking or writing in one of the languages you speak it will just start pulling random words from that box.
Yup… That’s what most of my current writing’s like :(
Had to make a meme to describe me currently
Publisher: Okay, look, I appreciate your creative approach, but have you considered that a book for children about befriending a local bird flock probably should not be named “My First Murder”?
Me: But it’s not just about some bird flock. It’s about a murder of crows. That’s the term. We’re supposed to educate our children, right?
Every url that reblog’s will be written in a book and shown to my homophobic dad.
My favourite thing about Éowyn and Faramir is that when Éowyn tells Faramir she’s in love with Aragorn, his response is basically “well duh, who isn’t.” He truly gets Éowyn, not only because he has similar experiences with despair and grief, but also because the two of them feel the exact same way about Aragorn.
Strictly, canonically speaking, Faramir isn’t in love with Aragorn, but his old-school Medieval fealty has the level of passion and intensity that a modern reader tends to associate with romantic love. (Though of course he isn’t an outlier in a series about passionate friendship and fealty.) The first time Faramir ever saw Aragorn, in the Houses of Healing, “a light of knowledge and love was kindled in his eyes” and he immediately volunteered to do anything his king asked of him, even though he had just woken up from life-threatening illness and probably didn’t have the strength to get out of bed under his own power. And what he offers to Éowyn, among other things, is this: you can continue to love Aragorn as your king and captain, we can both love him that way, and love each other with a quieter peacetime love.
people will be like “don’t worry it’s all in your head!” like babe… yes… that’s the problem… how do i get it out of there…
Irene being a dominatrix in BBC Sherlock pisses me off for so many reasons, not the least of which being that there was so much wasted potential!! What would the modern day equivalent of an opera singer be? She could have been a pop star! She could have been the front woman of a devastating jazz ensemble! She could have been, you know, an OPERA SINGER!!! Cause crazy enough, we still have those. Anyway comment what you think modern day Irene should have been
The city I’m currently in has so many crows, I can’t love them enough🖤 And the birds and squirrels in the parks of my own city are also so, so adorable. Urban animals spark joy!
take the shame out of enjoying urban animals. nothing wrong with watching sparrow/starlings/pigeons; you’re still going birdwatching. check out the antics of the squirrels; rats are super entertaining if you’re out at night. they’re all good creatures man
i swear i’m a writer!!! just… a writer with zero motivation, no focus, and a plot that makes no sense but like… still a writer!!!!
Only right now am I discovering plenty of shows of different degrees of “old”. I may not be making a lot of fan content, but be sure I need it.
I don't wanna @ anyone because I understand how fast things seem to move in today's landscape of streaming shows dropping entire seasons in one day, and networks pumping out new series constantly to try to attract more subscribers with no intent to actually maintain those shows over time but I just saw someone self-deprecatingly lament that they are still thinking about a show that ended almost a year ago, making fan art and playlists for it, and I want to be very clear:
you can still create fanworks when it comes to old media!! PLEASE do!! there are always going to be new fans who will appreciate it, and veteran fans who are dying for new content and new perspectives. also, less than a year is NOTHING. the original Star Trek series was on TV six decades ago and there are still people losing their minds over it, writing stories and reblogging gifsets daily, and that's only one example.
a fandom lasts as long as there are people who love a thing, even if it's only a handful of people. love what you love and write and draw and make gifs and playlists about it!
