Because I have seen not one, not two, but three posts about kinks that I have never interacted with in anyway (degradation, piss, and the final being bluntly transphobic when I myself am trans??) and have no clue why they’re there. okay, so here's a new info post from the top.
the problem: tumblr is extremely extremely in debt. the current model is not profitable. this is why they are trying to turn the site into a shit clone of every other social media site, so they can attract new users and their money.
solution: not a ton of people can afford a long-term subscriptions like ad-free. however, many of us CAN afford $3 to inflict crabs on another unsuspecting user. (and those that can't, can still enjoy crabs everywhere)
the idea: in the grand traditions of mishapocalypses and goncharovs and tumblr users' obsession with [random inconsequential thing] Days, we create a fund drive/holiday on July 29th, dubbed Crab Day. buy your friends crabs. buy your enemies crabs. blaze posts. post memes. change ur icon. whatever. actually put your money where your mouth is and show @staff that there actually IS profit motive to listen to the current users about what we want this site to look like. (and yes, that means accessibility features too. we currently have zero leverage to demand these features. let's change that.)
i don't know if this will actually go anywhere. worst case scenario, a few of us have fun, tumblr gets a small amount of money, and nothing changes. best case though, we actually provide incentive to keep our stupid hellsite unique.

Bloomsbury has acquired a companion book to the BBC television series “Ghosts”. Katy Follain, head of Bloomsbury general, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Ghosts: The Button House Archives from Paul Stevens at Independent Talent. It is her first acquisition since she joined Bloomsbury. The companion book will be published on 26th October 2023. “Ghosts” was first broadcast in 2019 and has been nominated for multiple national comedy awards. It returns for the final season this September. The tie-in book is described as “a hilarious, colourful and entertaining compendium of surviving artefacts and documents relating to the ghosts of Button House’s past lives”. Ghosts: The Button House Archives will be written by Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond – six of the ghosts who also co-starred in the franchise Horrible Histories. They will be signing books at events around the country in the run-up to Christmas. They said: “We started kicking around the idea of a ‘Ghosts’ companion book quite early on in the life of the series and got very excited about how the characters could show up in all kinds of documents and artefacts. We’re delighted to finally be bringing this idea to life with Bloomsbury to produce something we hope fans will treasure.” Follain added: “To be working with this hugely talented group of writers on the tie-in book of such a massively popular comedy series is complete heaven. This has no importance but I want to get this down, metaphorically, on paper to understand my feelings:
Okay, so my parents will be at a festival when my prom is, meaning they’re unable to take me, which I get. But my dad’s annoyed that he can’t take me and I genuinely don’t know why; he’s trying to figure out a way for someone to take me in our campervan, but it really doesn’t matter to me. Like, I don’t care if I go in a normal car - that isn’t the issue. It’s more that they were also on holiday when I started my final exams, so I had to take care of the house, our dogs, and myself, all while doing the things that will determine my future. Again, I get it, there was a mix-up with dates and that’s fine. What annoys me, is that they act like I’m completely helpless by myself even though I’ve done this kind of thing before. For the last three years, in fact, so there’s blatant proof that I can handle this. I don’t need their help, I don’t know if it’s the daddy-issues talking or the mommy-issues, but something’s talking! If they let me take care of it, like I have most others things that I’m involved in, then it’d be fine, but them acting like I have no other choice apart from relying on them really gets on my nerves. Anyway, rant over, I’m gonna keep knitting.
Never have I been exactly worried about the whole ‘sites share your data and invasion of privacy’ thing, but I do have to say it’s a bit weird when tumblr gives you an ad that has the exact things that are currently in your like-list.
And no, I didn’t crop it weird. That is the ad that it showed me.
