Literally Bruce in Robin Lives! and other comics: Nobody blames me more for what became of my kids than myself. Taking them in was a selfish decision. I fucked them up, I'm leading them nowhere than pain and death. I should isolate myself and stop interacting with anyone else to stop hurting people, to stop hurting them. (Is often shown that he is wrong and his kids don't blame him, EVEN JASON)
Some genius on Tumblr: Bruce thinks he saved his kids for taking them in, but everyone else can see he is the one who fucked up some perfectly healthy kid!

Nothing in common >:(
You can’t win as a woman in fiction. Be too positive, you become a Mary Sue, have flaws and those flaws are why almost nobody likes you. Be moderate, you have wet-cabbage personality, be exuberant, you are an unrealistic example. Have strong morals, and you’re badly developed, be morally corrupt and you’re hated with such vigour fans will send hate mail to the actress who plays the character. Be kind and soft and in love, you’re a representation of sexism, be cruel, harsh and cold and you’re just a bitch. Be a complex, realistic, ambiguous character, and either your flaws or your positive traits will be ignored or blown out of proportion and into oblivion. There is no winning for female characters.
this speaking as a cis person. Nothing brings me more joy seeing people find gender euphoria in becoming a mediocre representation of humanity. And I mean that so genuinely. Local boy finds joy and fulfillment wearing a cargo shorts and t-shirt combo. Local girl has transitioned to look like someone's disheveled aunt, has never been happier. Local person experiences gender euphoria rocking the world's worst bowl-cut. Without a scap of irony, this shit makes me see the wonder and whimsy in just, being a human. An average, person going through their day-to-day, is a wondrous thing? That's amazing. And heteronormativity has stripped these experiences of their joy. Like you're right, wearing a basic girlypop skirt should make my heart sing. Why not? Why are these expressions lesser because they're normal? All this to say. Shoutout to all the basic bitches out there. Yes that polo shirt does make you look like a divorced golfer dad. Yes, that too is kind of a slay, now that I think of it.
im being so serious when i ask this, but, how has dick's characterization become so opposing to his actual character? like how in the world did this pervasive and frankly invasive depiction of him become so popular? where in the world did people get these scraps of personality that they've frankensteined together to create this fucking weirdo that shakes his ass for criminals and is the biggest attention seeker? for decades we have had pretty consistent source material that continually establishes that dick is quite serious and a leader, and also someone that cares deeply for people and has the skill set and willpower to do literally anything for them. how has this fanon characterization that's quickly becoming canon happened to him?
you are not a machine. you are more like a garden. you need different things on different days. a little sun today, a little less water tomorrow. you have fallow and fruitful seasons. it is not a design flaw. it is wiser than perpetual sameness. what does your garden need today?
grief stays stuck for the time it dictates, it controls you. Of course Jason wouldn't forgive Bruce so easily. Even when he did forgive him, he continued not to acknowledge it, act as if it wasn't a big deal he was getting close again, more open to hear another version.
I think it's sweet how he tries to fight it, but we all know that kid in the robin suit loved his dad, and he never stopped, through death and all.
sometimes i think jason’s anger gets too oversimplified as just anger and so rarely do i see it acknowledged that it is absolutely also grief, just not in the "standard" way
on top of that jason would’ve been mad at bruce no matter what he did. because grief is illogical in the things it makes us think and feel. i’ve loved pretty much every batfam fic i’ve ever read but sometimes i feel like we write jason as too easily swayed by being told about batman’s downward spiral after his death. because explain all you want, grief is stubborn and grief is not something you can just… convince away.
is this me being a fucking nerd about psychology and wanting to see more jason content that actually explores the fact that anger is only one component of his grief? maybe. none of your business go away im at a restaurant >:(
I think a lot abt how ram wrote talia talking about how she was going to help bruce get back to himself. such an important part of brutalia’s dynamic is that talia has always understood that being batman will always come first &, crucially, she wouldn’t have it any other way.
it’s a big reason why I like brutalia so much; when it’s written correctly, everything abt bruce is accepted & loved & adored — & for talia to be able to do all of those things, she knows she also has to let him go… trapped in this eternal cycle of loving bruce at his truest form, when he’s doing what makes him happy, adhering to his sacred vow; while knowing that that stops them from being together, but that she wouldn’t ever want him to change for her… poetry
what do you mean in one world kon died and tim adopted his colors to honor and mourn him
and in another world, tim is the one who died and kon adopted his robin mantle in all but name and moved to gotham and started working with batman in order to honor and mourn tim.
like...wow. they are so normal about each other :)
"do you wanna add tags?" No tumblr, I wish for my words to be seen only by the mold in my walls and the dust bunnies I have yet to clean up
can we talk about this?
i get that this person is referencing the fact that she's drawn beautifully but cassie has always been a tomboy i don't get why they started making her more girly, they're stripping her of her og personality.
she actually looks like sabrina carpenter, stop this

Robin (1993) #69
everybody moved on, but i stayed there
tbh. a little obsessed with how some artists drew batman’s cape in the 90s
batman’s cape as smoke, batman’s cape as shadows…. batman’s cape as wings…
batman’s cape as this almost living, almost breathing thing
(panels from batman: shadow of the bat, #74-75, & batman: legends of the dark knight, #120)

i love how we all just collectively agreed that the butts match
the fact that jason shared food with other hungry and homeless people when he was catatonic makes me feel so many emotions.
for one, it's so true to his character as a compassionate boy who gets so rightfully angry about the struggles impoverished communities have to continually face due to society's failures. this is the same boy who was homeless for about three years of his childhood, had to steal to survive, probably went long periods without food, and knew firsthand what it's like to actually be lonely. he's the boy who got mad at bruce for even insinuating he would drop jason off with the cops or social workers because he knew their true natures and how they treated poor kids, people, like him.
jason has always been about protecting and defending children and the defenceless to the point of disregarding moralities. we see this in his 80s robin run, as well as in utrh and lost days. his unmoving stance on their well-being is what's so captivating about him. he kills to protect children and easily agreed with/excused a woman who killed a rapist when he himself was only around 12-15 yrs old. sure, a bunch of people would agree with jason's reaction but it's especially important because he's a kid who grew up poor. he witnessed firsthand how many women have to suffer sexually at the hands of men to get by.
this is the real jason todd that so many comic writers now fail to capture in their comics. they completely turn him around and have him do things that in no way make sense to his character (not surprising since some literally admitted to hating him/not knowing enough about his robin run). jason todd is insanely compassionate-- that's his thing. he's empathetic to a fault. why erase that core part of his character?
jason as a child looking to bruce with so much love and trust is extremely important to me
