Trying To Re-work My Shazam Character Designs. Obi First Up Is Billy.

Work in progress for my Shazam story. ⚡️

This is a scene towards the start of the story, right after the prologue actually. It’s the scene where Billy’s social worker is trying to explain to him that she’s running out of foster homes for him to go to and is trying to get him to behave.

These are very quick sketches however, I think it’s probably for the best because one of the hardest things for me to learn is how to incorporate storytelling into my art lol. Which is funny because I enjoy both writing and drawing. So yeah,,,,

But anyways,, again not really sure how I want to tell this story? Like at first I was set on a screenplay for sure, but then I was like,,, maybe I should just write it as a fanfic? Because I’ve had nights where I’ve written 8,000 words in one night,,,, but those are rare. But ALSO also I really do enjoy the visual aspects of a comic,,,, but a comic would for sure take me the longest and require the most focus,,,,

I’m still not sure at this point, but I guess I’ll have to decide soon if I want people to eventually be able to enjoy my take on Billy Batson’s origin story,,,,,

Hey, look it’s Mary Marvel‼️‼️

I finished this drawing on my phone while I was at work so I didn’t have my normal “Kirby dot” brush that I normally use to fill in their chest emblem. But that’s okay I drew these dots by hand!!

Yeah originally I was gonna give her a golden chest emblem but then it was just too much yellow in one spot so it didn’t look good,,, Maybe I’ll change Freddy’s color from a silvery blue to yellow just to spice things up, so they don’t all look the same lol.

But yeah I made her outfit white because sometimes it’s red, but Billy is red. It made sense for both of them to be red when they were canonically twins. However, in a lot of stories they aren’t lol.

I might have to give her another outfit because the overalls are cute, but all the other siblings are for sure giving like autumn/winter time cozy kinda outfits.

The overalls are cute but they’re more spring/summer time especially with the Philadelphia weather!! >_< 🩷

I think next I’ll either design Rosa and Victor or I’ll maybe work on some sibling interactions!! ⚡️🍁

GOAL/DESIRE

After years of disappointment in the foster system, Billy's goal/desire throughout the story is to find his “true family” where he wants to feel a true sense of love & belonging.

FEAR

Billy fears that he will never find a group of people who will want to love/care for him & that he will spend the rest of his life isolated and alone.

MISBELIEF

Billy is under the misbelief that his birth mother is the only person who can give him this sense of belonging. Billy’s memories of her from his early childhood are the only moments of his life he ever felt truly cared for.

CHARACTER ARC

Billy starts the story as a troubled teen who lets his misbelief that his birth mother is his one “true family” guide his every decision.

This leads to him to act cold/distant from the people in his life that are trying to make an emotional connection with him. He’s had a long history of being emotionally burned before, and he’s not interested in getting attached to another temporary home.

Throughout the arc of his story he learns to open himself up to the Vasquez siblings. When the Vasquez siblings give Billy that sense of love/belonging he was looking for, Billy learns that family isn't defined by blood but by people who genuinely care about you.

Here’s my take on the character of Billy Batson. It’s kinda mostly based off of the 2019 film but also a little bit on the new52 comics soo yeah >_> ⚡️
