what are your favorite and least favorite monster ships?
Well my favorites are these
Tenma/Grimmer and Tenma/Nina (I put these together because I love those ships equally I could talk about them for HOURS)
Eva/Tenma (Yeah I know everything that happened between them but I love the idea of the second chance romance lol)
Eva/Martin (obvious reasons)
Tenma/Rudi (academic rivals it’s just ON POINT)
Tenma/Lunge (lmao I like that ship bc is funny to me and I love that)
And Lowkey I enjoy Grimmer/Lunge
So yea practically I love almost every Tenma ship (it’s not my fault that he is the most shippable mf in this anime)
Honorific mentions: Suk/Johan (Its not like I ship them seriously but I enjoy this ship because it’s SO FUNNY TO ME the whole situation in Prague made me wheeze every single time. And the memes and fanarts are amazing, so bonus points)
And my least favorites
Well the rest of the monster ships doesn’t care to me, but if I’m gonna say a ship that I DON’T LIKE, it has to be Nina/Johan, I hate that ship with A BURNING PASSION.
And I don’t like Tenjoh that much to be honest, but the fanfics and fanarts are cool tho
Again this is my op 🫶
FR FR FR he’s quite androgynous and I LOVE IT
I love how feminine his side profile was drawn in the manga
LMFAOOOOOOO real I want his d
I NEED more Tenma x Nina content
Grimmer got some random girl pregnant and it wasn’t ME. Like, I’M ACTUALLY MAD, IT SHOULD’VE BEEN ME.
I want to have a normal conversation with his wife. : )
Idk for some reason I remembered that today and I got jealous lmfao
I love that giant man
I need that giant man
I need to climb that giant man
I need that giant man to leave me like Juno
OMG YESS 😭💖
do you guys see it too
I don’t understand people who see Monster as a nihilist work, as if Johan was supposed to be right?
First off: I'm not well-versed in philosophy so I'm not sure as to what counts as nihilism but I absolutely don't think that the narrative of monster is that Johan was right
While the story revolves around Johan, the moral of the story doesn't lie on his worldview but shown throughout the series by other characters—that is: even though the world is cruel, full of darkness, pain and suffering, we mustn't let it continue and consume us
Times and times again we were told and shown that we mustn't fall into despair and we can't let the darkness consume us because we have the power to prevent it from spreading further
That we can still hold on to hope for a better future
Times and times again we were shown how people are saved by other people's kindness and intervention:
Dieter and Milosh were saved because Tenma and Grimmer cared about them and gave them compassion
Eva didn't get murdered because Martin refused to let himself be consumed by despair and choose compassion instead
Mikhail Petrov saved the children by raising them full of compassion
And in the end Johan didn't get what he wanted because he was wrong; he was wrong about the world (the world isn't just full of darkness), he was wrong about people (people are capable to act with compassion instead of cruelty and selfishness), and he was wrong about himself (he isn't a lost cause)
And that's what broke him: his lifelong beliefs were shattered by his sister's compassion and Tenma's refusal to kill
Again, I don't know what counts as nihilism, but:
TLDR: Monster is a story about how hope and compassion triumph over despair and cruelty
Bro istg i have so much FOMO when I can’t bring myself to like the cute and harmless ship everybody likes. it feels like this fr
I literally have no words Oh MY GOD
He had so much to say
He deserved to LIVE
I have finally managed to translate Grimmers note from Another Monster! Now this translation may not be accurate, but I will leave the German version below it incase you want to try to make a better translation! I do not mind if people ask me to try and translate other things from Monster that are written in German.
(I know the poll is still going but i decided to post it early)
English version Culture In the East Crushed by the West -Materialism -- The West is Flourishing-- The World Is a Utopia - physical Work Is less - Five-day week - The entertainment industry is on the rise - Free time is important - Free love - A pleasure-oriented life. Leisure is the most important value in life. Fear of free time is increasing. Hedonism as a compulsion. Compulsive sex without love. As an individual, you no longer achieve anything. A generation that kills time. Self-hatred. Boredom. Self-denial. Self-discovery Crimes out of boredom - murder = through lust = serial murders already in the 60s there has been an increasing violence The tendency is suspected. Horrible insight!
