At Eddie’s graduation, you’re yelling the loudest. You’re pumping your fist, screaming “Eddie Eddie Eddie!” as the Principle of Hawkins High begins reading the student’s names out. Wayne is laughing along beside you, not caring about the side eyes the pair of you are getting. The principle isn’t at the letter ‘M’ yet – not even at the letter ‘F’ – but still, “Eddie Eddie Eddie!” you roar. 

You can see the back of his head. See the graduation cap sitting on top of his brilliant curls. He turns around, and there is his beautiful, boyish face. Pretty brown eyes that you’d know from a mile away. Class of 86′ baby, he’d grinned this morning, pecking you on the lips after you’d adjusted his graduation cap. 

You’d brought your Polaroid and was taking snaps of him getting ready – forced both Wayne and Eddie into the shot so you could get a picture of the pair. A keepsake. You’d handed it to Wayne after it had developed, and he’d tried to hide the smile that was blooming on his face, but he couldn’t hide the tears that were welling in his eyes. He did it, he whispered. Yeah, he did. Touch and go for a while, but yeah, there he is, sitting with the graduating class, turning around and looking for your voice. 

When he finds you, you wave wildly. A grin splits his face in the middle. You blow him a kiss and he blushes, catching it and smacking it on the side of his cheek. You start yelling his name again, and he blooms a deeper shade of red. Starts telling you to shhh, mouthing, stop it, but know he’s loving it. Loving the attention – loved it when you’d draped the gown over his arms, covering the healing scars. i’m so proud of you, you’d whispered, and Eddie had smiled, his eyes going a lighter shade of brown as warmth filled his body. you’d cupped the side of his face, “my beautiful boy.” 

“Eddie Munson,” the principle reads out, and Wayne and you start yelling. Start screaming and clapping and roaring and you get up on your seat, standing on the plastic to get a better look as he starts walking the stage and there he is, taking his diploma, bashfully grinning. Someone starts calling your name. You turn to the sound and Dustin is hobbling towards you, getting to the seat you’d saved for him. You help him up, and when Eddie finally turns to you, he see’s the pair of you – his favourite people – hugging and yelling his name.  

“Oh my god I love Damien! He’s such an innocent bean! I love the Mayor!”
